RECAP…
Eyes wide, breathing heavily, I continued to firmly hold Kakashi close.
I don't want to fall… I don't want to fall…I don't want to fa-
A deep voice suddenly broke into my trance.
“I'm here, Chiori. I won't let you fall.” Said a deep calm voice.
I looked into his dark eye as he stared at me intensely, as if he knew I was thinking about the fears and pains of my past.
“Thanks…” I said, strangely reassured at my friend's kind and trusting words, as I listened to his heartbeat against mine.
It was always calmer.

Chapter 2: Rivalry
(Chiori's point of view)
I was comfortably tucked between Kakashi's arm and chest, both of us on the tree branch, talking now and then about our lives now and our futures. Even though there were several moments of silence between us, it was never awkward… being with Kakashi had never been awkward.
I felt as if I could lie there with him forever.
Suddenly, I felt someone watching us, as I peered down to find Yumi twirling her light brown hair.
“Ahh! Kakashi-samaaa!!” she whined from below the tree, until she paused staring at both of us with a jealous and taunting look about in her eye.
“Oi (hey)” Kakashi replied lazily.
`Yumi…why was she always following us' I thought.
Yumi is my 14 year old cousin, whom I have been living with along with my aunt (her mother). Ever since my parents died, my aunt was forced into taking me into her home, due to the fact that I had no other family left.
I am grateful for my aunt, who sheltered me and… I guess that's about it.
In fact, she had been treating me as if I were a dog for the past 9 years of my life since my parent's deaths.
Forcing me to do all of the housework, prepare everything, as well as treat her daughter Yumi like a princess, I was always considered more of a servant rather than a relative in their home.
As a matter of fact, Yumi was also not very helpful either.
She incessantly ordered me around, even though she was only one year older than I was, and always berated me about every little thing.
Not to be cocky or anything, but I felt as if Yumi was always jealous of me and what I had. I would catch her glancing at me, eyeing my face and body as if she were jealous of the fact that she had to use cosmetics and hairstyling equipment to enhance her looks, while I did not.
*FLASHBACK*
----------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------
“Oh, aren't you lucky all the guys fawn over you, Chiori. With your violet eyes and dark black hair, what wouldn't they like?” Yumi said, slapping me across my face.
“What do you want from me, Yumi? What did I ever do to you?” I asked, pressing a trembling hand to my now stinging cheek.
“You have no parents and you're all alone in the world. I guess your looks are the only things going for you. Tch… I pity you sometimes. LOOK AT YOURSELF! You can't even defend yourself!”
*SMACK*
She slapped me again and again, until I felt my cheeks starting to burn from the pain.
I couldn't defend myself… or else…
“hah! Look at you; you're worthless.
You can't even do anything anyways, since my mom will give you the beating of your life and probably kick you out if you even lay a FINGER on me. And we don't want that now, do we?” smirked Yumi, hovering over me.
She was right… I couldn't do anything.
I needed my aunt, no matter how badly she treated me…

*END FLASHBACK*
Whatever I owned, she took away from me.
Whoever I became close with, she took away from me.
At least I had Kakashi… or I thought I did.
“Kakashi-samaaa~” whined Yumi with her green, round, puppy-dog eyes.
“I'm hungry! Take me to lunch, ne?” Yumi's fox-like grin disappeared once she looked in my direction, flashing me a threatening stare.
Looking back at Kakashi with her fake-innocent smile, Yumi came up to the branch we were on, shoving me out of the way, only to have Kakashi's arm wrap around my waist to keep me from falling.
He stared lazily back at Yumi, arching his eyebrow in confusion and a bit of annoyance.
Seeing the look on his face, Yumi quickly tried to make up for her having “displeased” her `Kakashi-sama' and gave me a reluctant apology.
“Ahh! Chiori-chan! I didn't even see you there!” Yumi said with an affected tone in her voice. “Awww, I'm sorry”
I could tell her apology didn't mean anything, as she was staring at Kakashi the entire time.
“Now, Kakashi-sama~ What will we have for lunch today? Ne~?”
“Ano… I already ate. Gomen, Yumi-san” Kakashi lied, as he looked in my direction giving me smile under his mask.
“NANIII?! Kakashi how COULD you!! You promised me, rememberrr! You definitely said `Yumi-chann I'll need to buy you a delicious lunch being that you're so unbelievably beautiful!!'. Definitely!” Yumi exaggerated, going a bit over board.
“Whaa-? I did say I would buy you lunch… but I don't remember… saying anything of that sort. Hmm… that's a bit strange…” Kakashi replied with a confused look on his face.
I couldn't believe what I was hearing. Kakashi said he would buy that spoiled brat LUNCH?! What was he thinking?! I thought to myself, as I poked Kakashi in his ribs and arched an eyebrow giving him a confused and annoyed look.
Yumi= “KAKASHIII~ NE??”
Me= “Kakashi… why would you-…
Yumi= “KAKASHIIIIIIII~”
Me= “… ever buy HER lunch…?” I said in a low voice, flashing him an angry look.
Confused and a bit overwhelmed, Kakashi raised both hands in a surrender position with a sheepish grin.
“Ma… ma… okay, okay Yumi. Since I did promise, I'll buy you some ramen on the way, ne?” replied Kakashi with a reluctant tone of voice, as he patted her head.
“Yay!! Kakashi-samaa you're the best! I knew you had feelings for me!” giggled Yumi, grabbing his arm and shoving me against the tree as she jumped down to the ground, pulling a reluctant Kakashi down with her.
“A-… Ano…” Kakashi stuttered, facing my direction with a look in his eye that seemed to cry out “Don't let her take me…” as he stumbled down the road with Yumi tugging at him impatiently.
Yumi jerked her head around at me and gave me an evil, satisfied grin, which was soon wiped away when Kakashi cried out,
“Chiori! I'll meet you at the bridge in a bit! Wait for me!”
I chuckled, despite my disappointment, at Kakashi's helplessness.
“Atleast I know he doesn't want to go with her” I said softly, smiling.
Yet, my heart tugged at me.
Kakashi was all I had as a friend, and Yumi was slowly beginning to take him away from me… like she always did.
----------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------
It was 6:00 PM as the sun slowly began to come down, as it revealed a beautiful orange and red horizon over the evening sky.
I could see the moon and some stars beginning to peep their way through above the sight.
I smiled.
“… kire (pretty)” I sighed as I dipped my aching feet into the calm reflecting water under the bridge. I had decided to finish some chores at home before meeting up with Kakashi. I didn't want to get yelled at by my aunt, who was strict about me getting my chores done by the time she returned home…
…Or else, I wouldn't be having dinner that night.
“I wonder what Kakashi and Yumi were doing…” I said aloud as I leaned back on the soft grass, watching a shooting star fly by.
Suddenly, I felt something cold touch my left cheek as I jerked myself upright, only to see a smiling Kakashi holding a soda can near my face, and a white, plastic bag.
“Oi, Chiori-chan. What are you doing out here?” Kakashi said as he knelt down beside me looking into my eyes.
“You told me to meet you later… at the bridge. Remember?”
Plopping down on the grass next to me, looking up at the sky, arms folded behind his neck, Kakashi sighed.
“Ah… that's where you're wrong, Chiori. I told you to meet me at the bridge… IN A BIT. Not four hours later…I was waiting forever! And to think I left Yumi at the ramen stand just to get here early, which is pretty rare…” I saw Kakashi's eye curve in a smile as he turned his face to mine.
I stared at him, with my mouth hanging out a bit.
“you… YOU, of all people… you were… early…?” I asked, my mouth still hanging out stupidly.
“hai hai…” Kakashi replied with a chuckle, reaching over to my chin, gently pushing my mouth closed.
“Gomen! I thought you were going to go eat lunch with… wait… YOU LEFT HER AT THE RAMEN STAND?!”
Boy, was Yumi going to throw a fit at home, I thought grinning a bit.
“Yea. Heh… I said I was going to treat her to lunch, not eat it with her.” Kakashi said. “To be honest, I'd rather much like it if I ate with someone I liked.”
I felt a blush spreading through my cheeks.
He then grabbed the white plastic bag behind him while leaning in closer to my ear, whispering “I wanted to eat lunch with you anyway…but I guess dinner will have to do.”
Feeling my face turn red, I quickly looked down into the bag Kakashi had brought. Sushi!
My favorite…
What's wrong with me… we always acted like this together… why am I blushing?! Geez, Chiori… calm down. It's ONLY Kakashi, I thought to myself.
“AH!” I gasped, delighted and trying to cover up my emotions with conversation. “You sure know how to cheer me up Ka-
Suddenly, while leaning forward, I felt pain shoot up my finger.
“-Itai!” I yelped, realizing that I reopened the cut I got on my index finger while cleaning up the glass shards left on the floor by Yumi… something she had broken earlier and ignored for me to clean up.
She had a tendency to throw things.
Kakashi, with a worried look, leaned in closer to me and gently grabbed my cut finger.
I winced in pain as he squeezed the blood out. I realized how deep the cut actually was, seeing that the blood wouldn't clog.
“Looks pretty deep… wont be too good to leave it out in the open.” Kakashi said, his eyes not leaving my cut.
“Iiee (It's okay)… I'll live, It really isn't tha-
“I don't have any bandages on me…” Kakashi interrupted. “…hmm… close your eyes for me?”
Huh? What was he planning on doing…?
I raised one eyebrow, eyeing him hesitantly before closing my right eye.
“Better not do anything weird… Kakashi” I said, still keeping my left eye open.
“hai hai” He smiled, then I shut my eyes.
(Kakashi Point of View)
I watched as Chiori closed her eyes gently.
Ever since we were little, we always used to spend time together like this… but I've never seen her in this light before.
With the horizon fading and the bright moonlight hitting the curves of her perfect profile, I realized how unique and beautiful she was.
Her long, dark eyelashes rested upon her creamy white cheeks, while her long, straight black hair fell over her shoulders, with a couple of strands escaping over her eyes.
Her nose was thin and straight, slightly turned up at the tip, and her perfectly shaped lips were pale, with a slight tint of pink.
“Don't peek…” I said to her as I saw her left eye fluttering open, revealing the most beautiful and intense shade of violet eyes. There was also a small beauty mark under her left eye that made her stand out even more. How unique…
Realizing I was in a trance, I slowly jerked myself away.
I held her pale, thin hand in mine as I slowly removed my mask with my free hand. I watched carefully, making sure she didn't peek.
(Chiori Point of View)
I fluttered my eye open to see what Kakashi was trying to do, only to see him staring at me, telling me not to peek.
Why was he staring at me so intensely, it was strange. I've never seen him look at me like that before.
Oh well, I like surprises anyway. I guess I'll just keep my eyes shut, for real this time, I thought to myself.
Waiting, ignoring the stinging pain coming from my cut, I listened to the running water beside me as it ran through my toes.
Suddenly, I felt a warm pressure on my index finger as the pain slowly eased away.
Huh? What is that…
I felt Kakashi gently suck the bad blood out of my fingertip, his warmth seeming to heal my wound.
The pain seemed to simply melt away.
I felt my face blush furiously, as Kakashi still held my finger to his lips.
Did this mean he took off his mask? I've always wanted to see him without it ever since I met him… but I guess that was something I felt was pretty cool about him. He was a mysterious guy, and I guess he had a reason not to show his face… maybe he had fish lips…? I thought, as I giggled, both at the thought of Kakashi having huge, pouty fish lips and the tickling sensation I felt at my finger tip.
Hmm…it wouldn't hurt to peek…
I slowly opened my left eye as I began to focus it on Kakashi in the darkness.
………………
“…fast…”
I stared at Kakashi in bewilderment, as I saw him facing towards the water, Come Come Paradise book in hand, while still holding my finger.
Surprisingly, it was bandaged up in a pretty little leaf he must have found on the floor, tied by the string holding the sushi boxes together.
“Hehe…” I chuckled “Pretty resourceful…”
“Hmm?” Kakashi turned away from his book, looking in my direction. “Oh, that. I call it Konoha-hidden-leaf-village-specialty-bandaid… all natural…?” Kakashi said with his eye curving into a smile.
I giggled as I picked up my chopsticks, split them as I opened the box full of sushi.
Eyeing the salmon, I picked it up with my chopsticks and held it in front of Kakashi.
“Arigatou… Itadakimaasu!” I said aloud, sensing the comforting look he was giving me.

(Yumi Point of View)
Lying down in bed, I felt myself getting angry again.
“Ahh! Kuso (Shit)!@#$! How dare he leave me… sitting alone like a loser at some cheap ramen stand… Kakashi BAKA!! What the hell!!” I screamed, throwing a glass cup at the wall.
Shit… great… Now I gotta clean this crap up…
“Aghh… whatever, I'll tell mom Chiori did it. She was acting more bitchy today than usual, with Kakashi-sama around…she deserves to get blamed anyway.”
I lazily dragged myself out of my bed as I went over to the window to get some fresh air, until I saw something…
Isn't that Kakashi-sama… with…
… “CHIORI?!?! THAT B*TCH PROBABLY TOLD HIM TO DITCH ME! Teme…”
I gripped the windowsill until my hands turned red from the pressure.
Suddenly, an idea popped into my head.
“Hah… mom wouldn't like it much if she found out Chiori was with Kakashi.”
My mother had always hated Kakashi since the incident…
It was said that Kakashi's father, “White Fang” was called out on a mission with 3 other elite ninja during the war… and failed miserably when he chose to save his comrades over completing the mission, resulting in the destruction of the entire town and along with the people in it and even some of the very comrades he tried to save… one of them being Chiori's father, Junichiro Sato.
Chiori's mother (my aunt and my mother's sister) probably committed suicide, not wanting to live without her husband, and especially not wanting to face that little tramp daughter of hers… tch… no wonder she killed herself.
Well, not being able to hold a grudge on Kakashi's father, since he had committed suicide afterwards, I guess she had no other person to turn her hatred towards, other than White Fang's very own son, Hatake Kakashi.
“tch… why couldn't mom just get over it… It was only her sister… geez.
Now it's harder for me to get a date with Kakashi!
I have to sneak around all the time not to get in trouble…
but…
…I could always get Chiori in trouble…”
I felt a grin spread over my face.
I fell onto my bed, giggling furiously. “Haha! I am sooo badddd…”
