RECAP…
(Chiori's Point of View)
“Hey! Let's get going before it gets dark, Raine! I want to make good time in getting back home~ You'll love it at the Snow Country, I know you will. It's always beautiful scenery when everything is covered in snow! You'll see,” said Loki excitedly, motioning me to catch up.
“Hai, hai! Hold on for a second and I'll be right behind you!” I replied, trying to get a good grip on Loki's bag full of supplies.
I guess this is goodbye old life…I thought with a strange feeling beginning to erupt in my chest, as I started to walk out into the forest, out of this village I knew not of. As I turned my back towards the cave, and the village, I felt something tug at my chest as if I was missing something important… someone important…
Don't look back, Raine. This is who you are now… you have to let go and realize that you weren't wanted here…now walk, I ordered myself mentally, as I caught up to Loki and walked out of my past and into a new beginning…

Chapter 5: Memories
***2 days after Chiori leaves…
(Kakashi's Point of View)
Wake up…
Wake up… something's missing…
Wake up… something's not right…
Wake up…find her or you'll lose her forever…
My eyes fluttered open to face an unfamiliar white ceiling.
Head throbbing, chest sore, neck strained, and eyes trying to adjust to the bright lighting, I gathered my strength to turn my head and take a look at my surroundings.
The hospital…
Suddenly I remembered it all.
“Kyuubi…” I said softly to myself as I recalled all the events of that night. We had sealed the demon fox in an infant child, and we had lost yondaime that night as well…
“Sensei…” I whispered, as I knew that he had given up his life on earth to save the people of Konoha from the treacherous demon fox.
As I lay on the stiff hospital bed listening to the beeps of the heart monitor beside me, I thought of Chiori.
What was that voice in my head…? Who was talking to me? What was he talking about? What did he mean by my losing `her' forever…?
I knew that the `her' must've been Chiori, being that she was the only girl in my life at the moment. What kind of sign was this?
“Hey Kakashi! You're finally awake… thank goodness. You were hit pretty badly… I thought you'd be unconscious for longer, but considering you are the Hatake Kakashi, I'm not totally surprised.”
I turned to see Iruka standing by the doorway, food tray in hand.
“… how long have I been here…?” I said struggling to sit up. My back was killing me.
“Well, you and the other jounin were all hit by kyuubi's attack trying to stall it while the 4th… umm… well yea. You've been out for about 2 days. Most of the jounin have just recovered. You're a lucky guy” smiled Iruka, as he laid the tray of food on my lap.
“I'm not really hungr-”
*growl*
Iruka chuckled at the sound of my growling stomach.
“I suggest you eat… it has been 2 whole days y'know. You need your strength back…”
I picked up my chopsticks and picked at my meal. I was hungry, but I was in no mood to eat. That voice was still bothering me…
“Hey, Iruka. Did you say something while I was asleep? I swear I heard something… something weird…”
“What do you mean?” Iruka said hesitantly, with an anxious and strange look in his face.
“Well, I think I heard a voice telling me to wake up. It was telling me that something wasn't right… that something was missing. I think it was trying to tell me about Chiori. I'm not too sure though, I could be wrong. I was probably hearing things.
Hehe, yea probably hearing things. Sorry to worry you…” I said, uncertainty filling my head as I stared down at the tubes connected to my arms.
“…”
Sensing Iruka's silence and awkwardness, I turned to face his worried and apologetic face, as he fumbled with his gloves.
“Iruka…?” I said, wondering what why he looked so troubled.
“…I don't know who was saying those things to you, Kakashi… but trust me, you weren't hearing things…”
My aching muscles tensed as I stared into Iruka's face for an answer.
“What do you mean? Tell me what you mean… Tell me!! Is there something the matter with Chiori?! Iruka!” I yelled, as I painfully edged over to the side of the bed.
“Chiori… she… her aunt… she…” Iruka closed his mouth as he stared down at the floor.
Without thinking, I yanked the tubes off of my arms and chest as I struggled over to grab Iruka's collar and pull him closer to my threatening face.
“Oh God, Iruka you had better talk or I swear…” I said with trembling hands gripping his collar tighter.
He still looked down.
“Kakashi, I'm sorry… but, she's gone. We found her aunt hanging by her neck on the tree with a note clutched in her hand…”
I slowly loosened my grip on Iruka, feeling my body go numb and slip back onto the stiff hospital bed, as he reached into his pocket and pulled out a crumpled, folded note.
I could sense Iruka looking at me with sorrowful eyes as he slowly laid the note beside me, turning to leave the room.
“Kakashi… I'm so sorry for your loss…”
Reaching over with a trembling hand, I unfolded the note and read, trying to hold back my emotions.
SHE'S GONE.
I BEAT HER, I KICKED HER, I SHOVED HER OFF
THE TRAMP DESERVED HER END
BUT I CANT SHAKE IT FROM MY MIND
THIS WAS THE ONLY WAY…
Lies… this was a lie…it can't be true… she was just here two days ago… how can… why did… how come nobody… why…WHY…?
I could feel my head turn hot while the muscles in my arm tensed as I crumpled the letter in my left hand. Struggling to stand up on my shaking legs, I mustered all of my strength and ran as fast as I could out the hospital door, pushing myself with the energy I had left.
This was a lie…
Pain shot through my body as I sprinted out the hospital door barefoot into the cold.
I need to go there… she's there… she has to be…
I winced from the pain shooting up my legs, but ignored it as I pumped my legs harder and harder.
Suddenly, I felt the wind get knocked out of me as I fell backwards hard onto the floor. Looking up, I saw Iruka, Kurenai and Asuma with surprised faces.
“Kakashi!! Where the hell do you think you're going?! Hey!! Come back! You're in no condition to- HEY! Kakashi!!” Iruka yelled after me, as I struggled back on my feet and ran towards my destination.
I felt them running after me, but I didn't bother looking back. I just needed to get there, and I wouldn't let anything stop me… not Iruka, not Kurenai, not Asuma… not even the pain.
The cliff… I need to go to the cliff… she's there, don't give up. DON'T GIVE UP! KEEP RUNNING, DAMN IT!!
The cold wind hitting my bare chest and running through my loose hair, I found myself leaning over a steep cliff, panting heavily… disappointment, frustration and hopelessness running through my mind.
With a rush of adrenaline out of sheer confusion and frustration, I screamed loud as I could out at the edge of the steep cliff, hoping she would be able to hear me if she were still out there… somewhere.
“CHIORII!!!!!!!”
I fell to my knees on the floor and dug my hands into the rocky floor with anger, feeling my silver hair falling over my sweat-covered brow.
Pounding the floor with my fists over and over, I felt hot tears reluctantly stream down my face, the skin on my knuckles beginning to give and reveal a bloody mess.
The pain in my fists… non-existent
The pain in my heart… unimaginable
I told you to be there when I come back…
Chiori…

*FLASHBACK*
(Dream)
…I suddenly felt myself being pulled up to the tree, on top of his body.
With my chin resting on the center of his chest, I realized I had been tearing as I saw the usual look in his right eye whenever he saw me cry.
“I guess I win” he said unexpectedly.
“Huh?”
“I won. I caught you didn't I?”
“Oh… tch… I wasn't paying attention…” I said defiantly.
Why did I always lose to him?
I always wanted to win against this guy, but no matter how hard I tried, he always seemed to win either way.
I would never catch up.
Suddenly, I felt myself slipping from his body as I started to slip off the branch.
“Ahh!” I yelped as I tightened my grip on his jacket. Then I felt him shift as he quickly pulled my body back to him with both his arms.
Eyes wide, breathing heavily, I continued to firmly hold him close.
I don't want to fall… I don't want to fall…I don't want to fa-
A deep voice suddenly broke into my trance.
“I'm here, Chiori. I won't let you fall” said a deep calm voice.
I looked into his dark eye as he stared at me intensely, as if he knew I was thinking about the fears and pains of my past.
“Thanks…” I said, strangely reassured at my friend's kind and trusting words, as I listened to his heartbeat against mine.
It was always calmer…

*END FLASHBACK*
(End Dream)
(Chiori Point of View)
Chiori… what was that name? It seemed so familiar…
I awoke from my pleasant, yet unusual, dream as I opened my eyes and realized that it was still night.
Was it that dream again…? This one was different. I've never felt so comfortable or more at home than in this dream…or in any other dream that person was in.
“Chiori… Chiori… so I guess that was my name…” I quietly said to myself.
I shivered as I covered my shoulders in a thin blanket and walked over the cold floor out into the hallway, and into Loki's room across the hall.
*creak*
“Loki…? Hey, Loki! Loki wake up” I whispered softly into his ear as I slowly tip-toed over to his bedside.
Flicking on his lamp, I gently shook him on the shoulder.
“Huh? Wahh? Ugh…”
“Loki, I had that dream again…with `him'. But it was a different one this time…”
Loki immediately pushed off his covers and looked at me with his sleepy blue eyes as he ruffled his short brown hair with a yawn.
“Oh. The silver haired guy dream, again? It was different this time?” said Loki with a surprised and concerned look on his face, his bright blue eyes staring intensely into mine.
“Yea, it was him again. I usually just see him around in my dreams… but this time I was actually with him, together, alone. I think he may have been someone important… to me.”
“Wow, this is really strange. I'm guessing that you're slowly regaining your memories through your dreams, Raine. That's pretty rare, but at least it's an improvement! I think once you start getting more of these kinds of dreams regularly, your memory will eventually return. But I wonder why you don't remember any family, friends, your town or anything else… only this one guy. He must have been someone special…”
Loki then turned his face to the window, looking at the snowflakes slowly drifting down onto the ground outside.
“Loki…”
I knew Loki had feelings for me, ever since he had brought me back to the Snow Country.
But for some unknown reason, I didn't feel the same.
He sheltered me, fed me, clothed me, helped me in anyway possible and was always there for me. He showed me love and affection, but for some reason, I felt as if there was something missing… or someone else missing. Something wasn't right, as if I were waiting for something or someone else.
Silence drifted through the cold air in Loki's room, awkwardness beginning to settle in.
“Uhmm…Raine” Loki said breaking the silence
“Did that guy happen to mention your real name? I don't want to call you Raine forever… You would probably want to be called by your real name, not just something I made up out of the blue…” I could sense the hurt in Loki's voice.
Chiori… that silver haired guy had called me Chiori.
“No, he didn't mention anything Loki.” I lied, giving him a smile.
“But you know, even if I do find out my real name, I don't want you to call me by it. You found me, Loki. You're my one and only family… you're my one and only friend… and you named me, so I don't want you calling me anything else, okay Lo-”
Suddenly, I felt a pair of strong arms wrap around my body, enveloping me into a tight embrace.
Loki sighed deeply as he buried his face into my neck, holding onto my waist tightly.
“Raine…”
I felt a sudden rush of heat run throughout my body as Loki pushed me down onto his bed and lay on top of me, straddling my body and with each of his hands pressed hard onto my shoulders.
“Loki, what are you-” I stopped, staring into Loki's serious eyes.
“Would you go back?” he asked, his voice calm and stern.
“If you found out everything… If you knew it all… If you found out that guy was yours, would you go back?”
How can he ask me this… how does he expect me to answer…?
“Answer me… Would you go back?”
I felt his arms push deeper into my shoulders as he slowly began to dip his face closer to mine. I could feel the tip of his hair tickling my forehead and his hot breath against my lips.
I winced in pain as I felt his hands beginning to press onto my shoulders too tightly.
Suddenly, I felt a pair of lips brush against mine, and soon envelope mine in a deep kiss.
No… I don't want this…
I felt his hands move from my shoulders and begin to travel down to my waist, gripping me tightly. My head was swirling.
No… stop…I don't want this…there's something wrong…I know there's something wrong…what if there is someone else…
Struggling to pry my arms from my sides, I finally got one free and pushed at his bare chest, trying to give myself space to breathe and get him off of me.
“Loki… Loki stop. Loki stop! Loki!!” I yelped as I finally pushed him away from me.
Pulling away from me, he stepped back and released me, a surprised and apologetic look on his face.
“Oh God, Raine, I am so sorry. I… I didn't know what I was thinking. I got carried away… I shouldn't have sprung that on you…I didn't mean to, I mean, I wasn't planning on… *sigh* ” Loki replied, surprised at his own actions, stepping back from the bed towards the door and out into the hallway.
Seeing him close the door, I was left in the darkness of his room.
For the 8 years that I've been living here… he had never done anything like this to me.
I had just recently been getting these strange dreams a few months ago when I fell through thin ice while Loki and I were looking for rare herbs for medicine…
*FLASHBACK*
----------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------
“Raine!! Hold on! Don't struggle, you'll only sink! I'll come and get you, hold on!!”
“Loki!!... Loki…” my vision began to blur as my body fell numb and I gasped for air, reaching out into thin air… I was helpless.
“Now… put your hands in the jutsu seal form and concentrate on your inner chakra. See
it, feel it, and gather as much as you can”
Huh? What was that voice…?
“Ma, Ma… now what are you doing? You're not even concentrating…”
So familiar… who is that…?
“I'll meet you at the bridge in a bit! Wait for me!”
Wait… for you? Who are you?
“I'm here… I won't let you fall…”
Don't let me fall…whoever you are…
concentrate on your inner chakra…see it… feel it… gather as much as you can…concentrate…concentrate…
Suddenly, I felt my eyes open under the cold water as I realized I had only a little while until I fall unconscious.
Whoever is telling me this is probably helping me to save myself… concentrate Raine… just concentrate…
Using my last ounce of energy, I put my hands together in a form I had never seen before and started to concentrate some kind of force on the soles of my feet…
Where did I know this from…?
My body began to rise as I felt myself rushing quickly to the surface, feeling power surge through the bottom of my feet.
I soon heard Loki's drowned out voice as I surfaced and gasped for the cold air.
“Raine! Raine!! Grab this rope!! Grab it quick!!”
Loki…help me…it's so cold…

*END FLASHBACK*
(Chiori's Point of View)
Ever since that day, I started getting these strange dreams of a tall, silver-haired boy who seemed to be about 17 or 18 years old. If he was truly a boy from my past, he must be around his mid 20's by now.
I wonder what his name is… I wonder if he cared for me… I wonder if he would remember me if I were to ever meet him again…
Yet, despite my curiosity, I couldn't help but think of Loki.
Loki… my family, friend, and only acquaintance. Loki… the one who rescued me… the one who named me…
But I need to tell him… I need to tell him that I want to go back to Konoha and search for my past…for that man…
I need to tell him that he can't come with me…
