Warm, artificially smelling hospital sheets covered his body. The occasional beep, beep beep echoed in his ears and he tried to get up, not sure where he was. But the moment he rose he fell back down again, his chest in agony, his eyes wide at the wave of pain he was experiencing, and then closed shut tightly. Once the pain subsided, he heard voices by his bedside, and he tried to remember who he was…
“Gaara-sama!”
Oh yeah.
“Gaara-sama, are you all right?”
“Gnn…” he moaned through his teeth. Things were flowing back to him quickly.
“It looks like he won't be able to move for a while,” the doctor said, a deep, aged voice. “He's been out for too long, 8 hours is too long. He needs his rest, so please, leave him.”
Gaara's eyes finally snapped open, “Yuugao!” he gasped. Shit, what the hell happened?!
“Sir, refrain from making unnecessary movement, your alveoli's have been heavily poisoned, and moving could only spread the poison faster. Right now you're on a drip with a cure, but you must-”
“Where the hell is she,” he said as he tried to get up, panicking. He noticed Motomo. That was the voice he recognised! He was in the room with several ANBU's and jounin.
“Stop… no… you cannot…” the horrible pain gripped him and he screamed in pain, before he fell back down. He gasped, tears falling from his eyes and down the side of his temples.
“I'm sorry Gaara, but it is for your own good. I warned you that this would happen, and now it has! You're poisoned and you won't be out of here for another three days…”
`Fools!” he cries out, his voice loud and menacing, “After everything I've done for you, you dare defy what your Kazekage tells you?!”
“Sir, you must rest!” the doctor warns.
“You will thank us later.”
“Aah! Aaaaghhh!!”
His heart beats, one loud occurring thump. Fuck… fuck… fuck… Shukaku, why is it when I need you, you're gone you fucking maniac? When I need your power the most… I am helpless! Get up Gaara! Get up and save her you fool, she will die if you don't come on, get up!
But he is useless, and Motomo slams the door behind him.

It was close to dawn, the full moon barely visible in the sky. Yuugao could hear the uproar in the streets and the marching feet as hundreds cried out, “She's killed the Kazekage!” their voices savaging the air.
“Why is she still alive?! Kill her!”
Yuugao shuddered in a dark corner, a small room the size of a cupboard. She wasn't sure where she was, or how she managed to stay alive for so long. It must have been… seven hours?
She felt overwhelming sorrow. If she could, she would end her life. Gaara was dead… she couldn't believe it. She killed him!
She heard footsteps, that quick patter unique to shinobi, and voices. Then she saw feet blocking the light by the crack of the door. She clenched her eyes shut, the door split open and she screamed, splinter flying through the air.
“I found her! She's here!” the young shinobi said as he grabbed her harm and jerked her from the floor. But instinct kicked in, and she felt a fear: she didn't want them to kill her! It would take too long! Before she knew it she was running through the hallway, the screams of the young boy she had bitten filling the hallway; “BODIES! I SEE BODIES!”
Another room was dead ahead. Gaara's office!
She barged through the door, sweat down her face and shivers down her spine like a spider's crawling feet.
There was a window. A balcony.
The street was ablaze with people. Jump! She cried, jump now and don't look back, just end it now!
She got her feet onto the landing, the ground a hundred meters below her. The people looked like ants.
“Gotcha you witch!”
Motomo, thinking she was planning to escape. Grabbed the back of her head and she cried out as his nails dug deep into her flesh.
“You think you can defeat the Sand you spy?! After this we will destroy your clan!”
He punched her in the face in his frustration, stars flooded her vision. She thought she would faint.
This was not how she wanted to die.
“Quickly, kill her before she does anymore tricks!”
There were a dozen shinobi and an ANBU, his katana raised and ready to clean cut her head off. Tears stained her pretty face but there were no more sobs.
Suddenly, midway though the strike, sand grabbed the ANBU's strong arms. “What the?!” he cursed in surprise.
He looked behind him and his life existence seemed to freeze in fear.
“Impossible...” he whispered in disbelief. Gaara, pale, stood in the doorway. Anger dominated every essence in his body, his core aflame with black fire for death. His drip was still attached to his arm as the cord dangled in the air.
“Gaara!” Yuugao cried in disbelief, “You're alive!”
But he didn't seem to hear her. Her excitement subsided and she realised that there was something different about him, something very different and terrifying.
The ANBU recognised it too and a sudden, deep clenching horror spread through his existence, “Kazekage-sama! NO!”
A menacing voice, deep like ocean crevices, and a power that that could ravage civilisations, spoke out,
“SABAKU KYUU!”
“Gyaaaahhhhhhhhhh!!!” the man cried and blood spluttered on Yuugao's face, her eyes wide in horror as she watched the sand force the man to his death, bone and all destroyed. In a blur horrifying cries of pain swarmed the air in a flock of anguish, winging through the room, the scene gruesome. She watched as more crimson poured onto the floors and any other surfaces it could land on. A final thud, and Motomo watched his fate meet him, tears in his face, “Noo! The village, Gaara, Please don't!
Crrcchh!! Chack! Thump!
Motomo was dead.
Yuugao couldn't move as she watched more shinobi come into the room from nowhere, fear in their face as they attacked. Gaara parted his legs and did a series of handseals, his body aflame in red ki. Desert sand crashed into the building and she cried out as it split into two. In a second, she was in his arms, and placed on the earth. Before her was the village, staring in horror as they watched the house of the Kage's crash to into the ground.
In truth, it had only lasted three minutes, but time seemed to have slowed down. In a blur, there was fire, so much fire in homes and in the street as blazed arrows tried to stop Gaara. There were chilling screams of men, women and children, cries that of horror mixed the sickening crunch of bones shattering in waves of sand.
Gaara was doing it.
He was massacring his people in blinded rage.
His plans for them, his hopes for them, his dreams for them, they all didn't matter anymore. They had denied him the one person in his life that gave him happiness, friendship and love.
Gaara, without the help of Shukaku, felt like a demon once again.
The last screams were muffled in sand and soon enough, everything died out.
***
Temari was climbing the last dune as daybreak greeted her that day, her village a few feet away. She got over the last hill, longing to get home and take a long bath.
Her heart stopped, her eyes wide. Her first thought was that her village, the Sand was in ruins, impossible just impossible! And then she panicked, thinking that the Wave had managed to come back, killing them off guard.
The sky was red with fire.
She ran through the narrow walls entering her village. No one was alive… Gaara! Shit, her brother!
What she saw next could never be described in words. Her brother was in an embrace with a girl amongst the rubble and blood. A girl with black hair, tanned skin, and startling, crying green eyes.

“I told you I would protect you…” he whispered.
They never wanted to let go.
“Moonflower…” he said, full of love.

The End

Moonflowers are really poisonous flowers; I didn't make up the list of stuff that flower's capable of! The title means “Full moon flower”. Hope you enjoyed this love story, and any comments or reviews are more than welcome, as you know, it motivates a writer, aka me.
And yes, it is tragic.
Until my next fic, bye!
