Chapter 2

Four months earlier

 

Kiba was walking the streets of Konoha with his friends, Hinata and Shino. The 18 year olds just came back from Naruto's birthday party in his new apartment. The blonde had gotten it as a present from both Iruka and the Hokage, Lady Tsunade. They had agreed his old one was too small for him now. Now he had his bedroom actually apart from his kitchen. The three were animatedly talking about the presents they gave. And when I mean `the three' I mean mostly Kiba.

 

“So when I found out Akamaru had puppies with another dog, I decided to give one to Naruto. A girl puppy of course but I never expected him to name it that. I mean sure of course he would name the puppy after a food but…'Oatmeal'! Sure maybe ramen or something else but OATMEAL?! How lame could you get? Though I know he'll take good care of it. And if not, Then you'll take care of her right, Hinata-chan?”

 

“Y-yes. I-I will. D-don't worry K-Kiba-kun. “

 

“Exactly! You are his girlfriend after all. So what did you get him?”

 

“K-Kiba-kun! I-I told you but I-I'll tell you again. I got h-him a book on d-different fighting s-styles.”

 

“Yea. He'd like that I think you would have given him something else, eh Hinata?” He said snickering and winked at her.

 

Knowing what he meant she squeaked in embarrassment. “KIBA!”

 

Shino hit him over the head.

 

“Ow! What was that for?!”

 

“…For being an idiot…”

 

“O…kay, “ Kiba rolled his eyes. “So what did you get Naruto, Shino?”

 

“…”

 

“…”

 

“…”

 

“…Well…?” Kiba asked after the seconds of Shino not answering.

 

“…Sunglasses…”

 

“Why? It's October!”

 

“…Because…” Shino paused for effect. “They're cool”

 

“True,” He shrugged and turned toward them, stopping. “I'll see you guys tomorrow. This is where I turn. Bye!” He left them flabbergasted as Shino continued to walk to take Hinata home.

 

“That's odd. Kiba-kun always a-always walked me home.” Hinata mused.

 

“That's because…of the new puppies…”

 

“Oh! And Akamaru i-is s-sick too, r-right?” Shino nodded “I-I've also noticed that you talk a bit more, Shino-kun.”

 

“You are doing well with your stuttering as well, Hinata-chan. Being around Naruto must be rubbing off on you.”

 

“Um…Th-Thank y-you?” She blushed.

 

“…Welcome…”

 

***Meanwhile in Kiba-land. ((A/N: eh heh ^^; )) ***

 

Meanwhile Kiba was walking down the path muttering…OK! TALKING to himself nonchalantly.

 

“Akamaru J.R. will be his name…yea. Once his dad gets better they'll be a great tag-team! Of course there's training and the…piddle problem. Of course…those couches may never be the same.” He said chuckling and shaking his head. He went to cut across an alley way he knew and started thinking back to the party.

 

*Flashback*

 

After giving `Oatmeal' to Naruto, Kiba went over to the table to eat. He looked around in semi-disgust. All over the place were couples. Sasuke and Temari were talking, but he suspected something. ((A/N: HE'S Not paired with her! I just thought I'd make Kiba suspicious! Ok, Sasuke lovers?! And Temari lover's as well! I know you're out there!))

Sakura and Gaara…(( A/n: That's for you Ang! -.-; )) Shikamaru and Ino and Neji and Tenten. He felt very lonely in that minute. He drank two cups of Sake in silence. He contemplated to himself that it was his burden in exchange for his secret. He turned when he heard cheering.

 

Hinata had just given Naruto her present and they kissed, Oatmeal going around them barking and wagging her tail. That just about did it. He got up and went out onto Naruto's new balcony to get some air. The cold air hit him fastly but he felt warm drinking another small Sake. He looked out over Konoha, well just the roof's in silence. He contemplated his life glancing at the Sake bowl in his hand. All the girls he knew were taken, his sister and mother were busy, and his friends had missions most of the time. He groaned a bit at his pathetic-ness. So Kiba was alone. Something no Inuzuka should be.

 

End Flashback

 

“Ah!” He yelled as he fell down on his face. “Ow!” came his muffled voice. He sat upright and rubbed his nose. “WHAT THE CRAP?! What the heck did I trip over?” He looked to see a cable. He picked it up, his eyes widened. There were bite marks on it hat could rival Akamaru's.

 

He dropped the 12” in thick cable and moved back. He stood up and examined it. Canine marks were all over the black cable. Kiba, who had been trained to recognize every dog who was in his clan, did not recognize them. Only the Inuzuka clan had the biggest dogs around, mostly for tracking purposes. Yet here was the largest bite mark he had ever seen. He heard a rustles and a snap behind him. He felt himself almost paralyze with fear. He looked around, a kunai now drawn. He felt the wind and the clouds move away from the half hidden moon. Now light was on him, brightening almost everything around him.

 

In the only shadows he thought he saw eyes and panicked. He threw the kunai and heard the clash of metal against the stone road he was on. He moved towards it but heard a snarl. He began to run, jumping roof's, without a thought. He had let his fear taken over. He reached the stone wall that surrounded his backyard and jumped onto its ledge. He turned his back to the yard and looked at the roof's he had jumped on, catching his breath.

 

The wind blew and he looked at the moon. `It was all in my head. Well, Halloween IS coming after all.'

 

`Kiba,' Spoke a sweet ringing voice. He froze, tense. `KIBA!' Screaming he panicked and fell back over the wall into the yard.

“Oh my gosh! Kiba! Are you ok?” He looked up, groaning in pain. He had landed face first. These were one of the times he was happy he wore his headband actually around his forehead. Not that it did much to ease the pain. His vision made him see two of his sister.

 

“Hana…ow…” His vision fixed and he held his head as his sister helped him up. “You scared the crap outta me! If you want my attention don't call in that voice like that.”

 

“Kiba. I just came out now. How could I call you? You just fell when I came outside.” She said with a confused look on her face.

 

“Stop playing Hana. This isn't funny. God! First the cable, now this? You're freaking me out here! How'd you even make the cable like that anyway?”

 

“Kiba…WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT? I was in the house all day. Ask mom,” She said. “Wow…you're really scared. What happened to you? You usually don't get scared so easily.”

 

He shook his head. `No, not over something as trivial as this. Then why? Hana is right….No…I know why' He thought, his eyes widening. ` The cable…It had no scent. And the voice seemed to come straight within my mind. Not to mention, the cable was very warm but not from it's own heat source. No. Almost as if someone held it and it collected the body heat.' He looked at Hana. “ S-Something weird is in Konoha…….and I don't mean Naruto.”
