Summary: It's just another early morning when Kakashi-sensei visits the marker honoring Obito and the other fallen ninjas. He recalls the time he had with his friend.. the person he loved years ago.

One-Shot Fic

It was just another early morning when Kakashi arrived at the marker honoring the brave fallen ninjas before meeting his student. He stood there, with his visible eye at it..

Everytime he was here, he recalled his time with the teammate of his.. the friend of his.. the person he fell for the first time. He hadn't had the chance to tell him how much and how long he have been loving him.. noticing him.

The silver haired jounin brought his hand and touched the forehead protector that covered his eye.. his sharingan. He then brought down his hand lower to his mask and caressed across.

“Obito..” Kakashi murmured.

-Flashback I-

“Kakashi!! Rin!!” A hyperactive 13 yrs-old boy ran towards the silver-haired teen.

“Grrr..” Kakashi groaned, “Why are you always late? We have been waiting for you since when? 2 years ago? Grrr!”

“Sumimasen! I got lost on the road of life..” Obito gave a cute pout, “And waiting for 2 hours isn't that long!”

“Yea right, you liar!! Try waiting for 2 hours then.” Kakashi gave a bored look at him.

“HMRP!” The Uchiha stuck out his tongue.

“Hn!” Kakashi did the same thing before turning away.

Rin sighed, “Alright boys! Hahaa.. Cut this out.. Let's wait for sensei to come!”

“Hai..” The boys gave a dragged long reply.

“Lalalaa.. LAAAAA!”

“Obito.. Your singing.. sucks!” Kakashi covered his ears with his hand, “So shut up!”

“LALALALALAAAAA!” Obito ignored him and sang louder.

“Obito!!” Kakashi squeaked, “You're gonna wake everyone UP!”

His teammate finally stopped singing and stared at him. “What's wrong! I'm trying to break the silence between us! You called me out in the middle of the night and from then, you spoke NOTHING!”

Kakashi sighed, “Then I'm going to say something now so will you please.. Shut. Your. Mouth.” He spoke the last 3 words with much threatening tone.

“Right..” The Uchiha laid back on the roof, staring into the dark sky.

“Obito..” Kakashi paused.

“What?” Obito's eyes still at the dark night sky.

“I.. I got something to tell you..” Kakashi muttered. `Tell him you idiot!'

“Of course I know! What is it?” Obito turned to the person beside him, “Why you've become so.. quiet?” He frowned worriedly for his friend.

“I..” Kakashi's mouth opened and closed. No words came out though. `Stupid! Baka Kakashi! You idiot!'

“Hmm? Well?” Obito was expecting something from his partner.

`BAKA!' Kakashi cursed himself before waving his hand up and down. “Bah! Nothing actually! Daijoubu!”

“Ahh.. Come on, Kaka-chan! Uchiha-sama wanna know..” The boy whined childishly as he hugged the silver haired jounin affectionately, “I wanna know..”

`I.. I dunno how..' Kakashi blushed as he tried to pull away from Obito, “Obito! Stop that you idiot! And stop that suffix!”

All he got was the boy sticking his tongue out childishly and placed his arms firmly around his neck. “Kaka-chan is soo strong! You're are a jounin at age 13! Rin and I still a chuunin..”

Kakashi had long ago, given up on escaping Obito's embrace. The fact was.. he was quite pleased and comfortable, having him close. “Work harder than me then.. Baka.”

Obito gave a cute pout. “Stop calling me baka, will you?”

“Then stop calling me `Kaka-chan'..” Kakashi grinned under his mask, trying to negotiate, “..baka.”

His teammate ignored his try of negotiating and knocked the back of his head. “My turn to ask now!”

“Ask what?” Kakashi rubbed the back of his head where was hit.

“Can you let me see your face?” Obito asked with a wide grin on his face.

“No.” Kakashi replied bluntly, immediately.

“Kaka-chan.. Let me see..” Obito whined again.

“No.” Kakashi turned his head away.

“Hmp!” The smaller one placed his head onto his chest, “Doushite? Why can't you let people see your face? Or are you shy?” he smiled.

“Alright! I'm shy..” Kakashi sighed.

“Hehe..” Obito nuzzled closer, “Hey.. I'm tired.”

“Baka.. Let's go home then!” Kakashi said.

Before he knew, the smaller boy had already fell into a heavy slumber. Kakashi smiled under his mask as he pulled the smaller body closer. `I like you..'

“..Baka.”

Obito smiled, “Kaka-chan! Look at the stars!”

Kakashi sighed, “Stop calling me Kaka-chan you baka! And yea.. What's so good about these stars?” And upon finishing, he received a knock at the back of his head, “Hey! What's that for?”

He stuck out his tongue. “When you look at those bright stars up high above in the dark night sky, you'll realise how small and limit can a human do..” The Uchiha explained.

“Stop giving me theory..” as Kakashi continued to gaze at the stars above with his friend. Obito yawned tiredly soon after.

The silver hair jounin sighed, “If you're tired, rest on me if you want..”

Obito smiled up to him as he placed his head on Kakashi's laps. “Thanks.. Kaka-chan..” he yawned and closed his eyes, getting into sleep.

Kakashi just smiled at the sleeping form on his laps. “..baka, you're most welcome.”

“Hey!” Obito exclaimed loudly, “Just take it!”

“Don't be a baka!” Kakashi blushed alittle, “Get it away..”

Obito gave a evil grin. “Doesn't mean that only girls can give guys present on Valentines.. Who set that kind of rules?” He then pushed the small box towards his friend again.

“I say I don't want..” Kakashi pushed the box away again. `You know you want it! Take it!'

“I'm serious.. Kaka-chan!” his friend put on a stern face yet looked so cute.

The silver haired jounin glared at his friend coldly but it didn't seemed to work. He gave up and took the small box from his hand. “Alright! Too cute to resist you..”

Obito just smiled. “Happy Valentines Day! Kaka-chan!”

Kakashi sighed.

“GOMEN NASAI!” Obito apologized loudly in front of Kakashi.

“Obito.. How could you forget to get a present for Kakashi?” Rin sighed.

Kakashi faked a hurt expression. “Ohh.. Obito.. I'm your friend and you forget about my birthday.. How could you?? I'm so hurt..”

The Uchiha too, faked a glare at his teammate.

Their sensei, Yondaime laughed, patting Obito's head. “Don't worry, Obito! I'm sure you will get Kakashi his present soon.. What more, gifts in terms of object aren't important. The most important is the bond that you share with one another..”

All 3 of them nodded.

Obito sighed, “I'll give your present soon.. Kaka-CHAN!”

Yondaime and Rin chuckled while Kakashi blushed. He then rushed towards his friend and tickled him.

“Stop that suffix you idiot!” The silver haired teen tickled him as his face tainted with light pink.

“Kaka-CHAN!” Obito emphasized in the `chan'.

“Why you..”

“Kaka-CHAN..”

“You baka..” Kakashi muttered as he continued to stare at the marker.

He then let out a weak smile across his lips. `There's no one more idiot than you..'

He kneeled down with one of his legs and brought his hand to touch the marker before him. Looking at a certain name on the marker, he read it out softly..

“..Obito.”

-Flashback II-

“Obito!!” Rin called.

“Hai!” With that, the Uchiha received the flying kunai towards him and plunk towards the target. He then did a back-flip and gave a kick right onto opponent's abdomen. But he then used a tree to support him. He knew..

Obito breathed hard, unable to catch his breathe properly. He dropped to his knees. Because of over-using his sharingan, he was unable to activate again.. Much to his disadvantage.

On the other hand, Rin confused ninja. “Kori Shinchuu no Jutsu!”

But she hissed in pain, “Dammit!” and her enemy became dizzy and bewildered. The opponent fell over in seeing repeating stuff over and over again as he ran from Rin. Suddenly..

“Watch out!” she warned loudly across the battle field.

Several kunai and poisonous needles were thrown towards the boy. Kakashi was unable to see properly. Black dots every where he saw. Blurry vision.. because he could not use his left eye.

His left eye was gone. One of the opponent had managed to slash down across his left eye, causing him to lose too much blood and unable to see properly.. He clutched at his injured eye and tried to focus. Before he could..

“KAKASHI!” Rin screamed, shutting her eyes close.

The opponent then rushed behind the boy and stabbed a kunai into his chest. Rin threw the windmill shuriken to the last A-ranked missing nin, causing the enemy to fall dead on the ground. She then used her last strength to rush to her teammates.

Blood all over the ground.

His teammate's blood were all over him.

His friend's blood were all over the place.

The figure in front of him fell over but he caught him before the sharingan user could contact the ground. “OBITO!” The silver haired teen gasped. Without realising, tears already formed in his eyes.

“Ka-kashi..” Obito smiled weakly as Kakashi brought his friend close to his chest, “Naze! Why you do that! You idiot!”

Obito smiled, “T-those in t-the ninja world.. who b-break the.. rules and r-regulations are.. c-called trash... B-but... Those w-who.. don't care a-about.. their c-companions.. are.. worse than t-trash..”

`Baka..' Kakashi yelled at his teammate mentally.

Rin dropped to her knees, “God.. Obito! I'll heal you now..”

She forced herself to produce more chakra but her body couldn't take the great pressure. Her energy had already depleted. She blamed herself for unable to heal her teammate.

“Obito.. You stay here! I go and cal-” Kakashi was about to leave when a weak hand caught his sleeve.

“Iie.. D-daijoubu..” Obito choked on his words, “There's no n-need to.. I'm dying.. s-soon anyway..”

“Obito..” Kakashi muttered softly before looking at him with his good, right eye. He hugged him close again.

“K-Kakashi..” The dying boy smiled, “I.. h-haven't give.. y-you.. your birthday.. g-gift yet..”

Kakashi knocked his teammate's head lightly. “Baka.. Don't talk about t-this now.. Stop talking.. Sensei will be here any minute..” Kakashi held the boy in his arms tightly, tears were already flowing down his cheek.

“Rin..” He called weakly to the girl, kneeling beside Kakashi, “W-would you.. perform.. an operation.. t-to give my..” He caught himself a coughing fit.. Blood came from his mouth.

“Stop talking you idiot!” Kakashi yelled but all Obito did was to smile weakly.

“..give my.. s-sharingan.. my eye.. to Kakashi.. as a b-birthday gift?” he finally finished his sentence. He looked at the silver haired jounin's injured eye. He wanted to do something before he died..

Rin was stunned, unable to think what to do. Kakashi wanted to retort but was interrupted by his teammate. “K-Kaka-chan..”

In normal situation, the boys would have play around and tickled each other. But not now.. Not in this atmosphere..

“A-actually..” Obito coughed blood before he continued, “I.. I like y-you.. very m-much..”

The silver-haired jounin wanted to say `I like you too' but was silenced by Obito's weak fingers over his mask. “I really.. want to see.. your face u-under.. this.. m-mask..” Obito murmured softly as his eyes threatened to close.

Surprised, Kakashi stared at him with his good eye. “Baka.. S-stop talking! I know y-you like to sleep! But don't close your eyes..”

“C-come on.. Kaka-chan.. A-are you.. s-still shy..?” The Uchiha was trying to joke at this moment when his eyes were already half closed.

Without any further a-due, Kakashi pulled off his mask for Obito. “Baka.. You're satisfied now?” he sobbed, trying hard to play with the Uchiha, “Now stop t-talking..”

“Y-you look very.. h-handsome..” Obito tried to laugh but the pain on his chest shot up and hurt him. Kakashi racked his hand over his friend's hair affectionately, trying to ease his pain.

“..but y-you.. still look c-cool.. with t-that mask.. on..” Obito murmured softly as he smiled at his Kaka-chan, eyes were closing as his life source was draining out of his body.

“Baka.. Then I'll put on.. my mask for.. your sake then..” Kakashi sobbed in between his words, giving a weak smile in return of Obito's before trying to fake an angry expression, “We're g-going home soon.. a-and we'll gonna discuss what.. t-to do for tomorrow.. s-so.. don't fall asleep or you'll g-get it.. from me!”

“Hn..” Obito nodded meekly, still smiling faintly.

“Stop smiling, you baka! Stay awake!” With that, Kakashi brought the smaller body closer to his body. “I like you.. baka.”

Obito let out a content smile and nodded. He then brought his bloody lips and kissed his cheek. He buried his head under the silver haired jounin's chin so as to inhale the scent of the person he loved.. Kaka-chan, one last time.. and his eyes fluttered closed.

Kakashi felt the body in his arms went limp. There was no steady breathing from the boy. The silver haired jounin's tears couldn't stop flowing.. Rin was beside him, crying loudly. He shut his good eye tight, hoping the impossible that his friend would be awake now.. still hugging him as close as he wanted.

“Obito..” Kakashi sobbed, “I t-told you.. not to s-sleep.. idiot..”

No reply. Just a faint smile across the dead boy's lips.. a smile filled with contentment to die in the arms of the person he loved.

“..BAKA!” he yelled.

Obito smiled up to him, “What are you going to do tomorrow?”

Kakashi sighed, “Don't think about tomorrow.. baka. Today isn't over yet!”

His friend knocked lightly at the back of his head. “Always look for tomorrow, Kaka-chan! It's always pleasant to look forward for future!”

The silver haired jounin stuck out his tongue. “Stop thinking, baka! We'll gonna suffer under sensei's training today!”

Obito did the same action as his friend. “But tomorrow is going to get better!”

Kakashi sighed again, “I say stop thinking about tomorrow, baka!”

Obito retorted, “Kaka-chan!”

“Baka!”

“Kaka-chan!” Obito suddenly laughed, “It sounds like.. Baka Kaka-chan!”

Kakashi's face turned red.

“BAKA!”

-End of Flashback II-

“I have been wearing the mask for you..” Kakashi stood up and rubbed away the single tear from his visible eyes. “And you make me late again..” he chuckled softly.

Then he disappeared with a `poof' sound to join his students for mission today.

When he arrived at the bridge, the meeting place.

“YOU'RE LATE, KAKASHI-SENSEI!” The blond and the pink haired girl shouted.

And the first sentence their sensei said was.. “Gomen ne! I got lost on the road of life..”

Both of them pointed their index finger. “STOP LYING!” they yelled together.

“Sumimasen! I got lost on the road of life..” Obito gave a cute pout, “And waiting for 2 hours isn't that long!”

“Yea right, you liar!! Try waiting for 2 hours then.” Kakashi gave a bored look at him.

Kakashi grinned under his mask as he jumped off the rail of the bridge and landed nicely beside his student. “So.. Our mission for today is.. finding that cat!”

“AGAIN?” Naruto exclaimed loudly.

“Stop yelling, dobe.” Sasuke pushed himself off the rail of the bridge.

“Stop calling me `dobe'.. you bastard!”

“Dobe.”

Obito gave a cute pout. “Stop calling me baka, will you?”

“Then stop calling me `Kaka-chan'..” Kakashi grinned under his mask, trying to negotiate, “..baka.”

Kakashi smiled inwardly as he saw his students bickering childishly.

“Alright boys! Stop bickering you two..” Sakura sighed as she pulled the struggling Naruto away by his collar.

Rin sighed, “Alright boys! Hahaa.. Cut this out.. Let's wait for sensei to come!”

`Things never change..' The silver haired jounin said mentally to himself. “Okay guys! Let's go and complete our mission!”

Naruto cheered, “Yea! Then we'll have our day off for tomorrow! Can't wait for tomorrow! Yare!”

“Dobe.” Sasuke said monotonously, “We still have to go through that stupid D-ranked mission.”

“But tomorrow is going to be a better day! Can't wait for tomorrow!” Naruto stuck out his tongue at the black raven haired boy while the only reaction he got from the Uchiha was a `hn'.

Obito smiled up to him, “What are you going to do tomorrow?”

Kakashi sighed, “Don't think about tomorrow.. baka. Today isn't over yet!”

His friend knocked lightly at the back of his head. “Always look for tomorrow, Kaka-chan! It's always pleasant to look forward for future!”

The silver haired jounin stuck out his tongue. “Stop thinking, baka! We'll gonna suffer under sensei's training today!”

Obito did the same action as his friend. “But tomorrow is going to get better!”

Kakashi gave a content smile across his lips under his mask. “They are almost exactly like us.. Obito..” he muttered.

“Did you say anything, Kakashi-sensei?” Sakura asked, tilting her head while the blond and the Uchiha stared at him with a questioning look.

“Iie!” Kakashi grinned.

“Yare, Kakashi-sensei..” Naruto called and asked casually, “Why you always have that mask on your face? When are you going to take off and let us see your face?”

Sasuke and Sakura immediately stared at their sensei with big wide eyes.

“..but y-you.. still look c-cool.. with t-that mask.. on..” Obito murmured softly as he smiled at his Kaka-chan.

“Because I look cool in this!” Kakashi's visible eyes curved as he smiled.

His students sighed in disappointment.

“Anyway, let's go home after mission and look forward for tomorrow!” Kakashi encouraged his team.

“YOSH!” Naruto and Sakura cheered, waving their fists up in the air as Sasuke sighed again at his teammates.

`There's someone as baka and cute as you..' Kakashi smiled at his thoughts as he led his team towards their destination.

`Let's work for tomorrow and go home together.. with you in my heart and my memory..' He murmured something softly under his breath only for himself to hear..

“I love you.. my baka Obito.”
