Naruto Fan Fiction ❯ Naruto...my friends...soo don't mix! ❯ teamwork ( Chapter 6 )
[ T - Teen: Not suitable for readers under 13 ]
Sakura came back to the hotel with us. I was more than surprised at how she was being. In the books she'd never really seemed so accommodating, she didn't care about anything but Sasuke. But really she was very nice, but it could partially be due to the fact that none of the girls in our group cared about Sasuke.
She escorted us to her house after I stopped by the ramen shop to tell the owner I probably wouldn't be able to work today or tomorrow. We were welcomed warmly, by Sakura's parents. Tristan, and Paige got stuck sharing a room. Then the four of us were in the living room, voluntarily of course.
I put on Rent, which interested the heck out of Sakura. She sat, and watched with all of us, finding it simply amazing how we'd memorized most of the music, if not all.
After the movie it was pretty late. So Sakura went off to bed resting for survival training the next day. I gather my friends to give them the low-down on the next day.
“Listen up people.” I said.
“What Mrs. Hatake?” Tristan asked.
“Why do you have to be like that?” I asked him. “Anyway tomorrow they're having survival training. Training that's supposed to teach them about teamwork. So they'll be fighting `til around lunch, and at first they won't pass, but at lunch Sakura will have to feed Naruto, which will actually allow them to pass. Now DO NOT muck with how they fight understand?”
Samantha and the girls nodded. “Why do you always have to tell us that?” Tristan asked rudely. “Especially since we're already screwing with the story line by being advisers for cell 7.”
“True, but we can't ruin it too much.” I said thoughtfully. I'm almost positive Samantha was more than wondering why I liked someone who I spent all of my time fighting with, but that's my strange strange way of showing affection. Unless it's someone like Kakashi, then I can only admire.
“I suppose I have no choice, but to agree.” Tristan said forcibly.
I obviously lit up. He'd finally given into me! Yay! He's not as awesome as Kakashi though, but his humor could easily match, if not exceed. Then again Kakashi was a jounin, but Tristan had abilities which weren't as good as mine therefore making me feel high and mighty. I pulled myself out of my thoughts.
“Of course you have no choice, but to agree.” I said with a snobby tone of voice. “I'm in charge here, even if you are older.” I glared conceitedly.
Now it was his turn to look like a two-year-old as he crossed his arms, and legs. I laughed “Tristan if I didn't know better I'd think you were a 6th grader.” He glared at me causing me to laugh more. “Ugh. I need to shower. I can't stand being dirty.”
“Yeah I noticed that.” Stacy said. “You've showered every night we've been here.”
“I can't sleep unless I shower.” I said. “I feel dirty if I don't.”
“That's just irrational.” Tristan said smartly.
“Irrational yes, but at least I have good hygiene.” I said. He rolled his eyes.
I got together my pajamas, and took a shower. When I got back downstairs they'd figured out how to watch friends on my laptop, which earned Tristan a nice slap on the face for touching it without my approval. I sent Tristan to his room, then after another episode we all went to bed.
The next morning Sakura woke us up at around 5. I groaned as I forced my self off the couch, as she went back upstairs to ready herself I advised my friends to wear something that would be good for fighting just in case. I dressed my self into my previous years gym shorts, and a nice T-shirt, then went upstairs to give the Schevings the same advice.
After everyone was ready we headed off to the field to meet Kakashi, Sasuke, and Naruto. We were last to arrive at the field besides Kakashi. Ah Kakashi. Only Stacy and I knew what he's capable of. How smart and powerful he is.
“Why does she always get like that?” Naruto asked, most likely referring to me.
“Who Tori?” Samantha asked. He nodded, she looked at me, and sighed. “She has a lot on her mind.”
“Yeah a whole lot.” Tristan said sarcastically. I snapped out of my thoughts.
“Shut up Tristan.” I said angrily. “I may not have been thinking about many issues, but what it is, is very important to me.” He rolled his eyes. “Dang you Tristan.” I whispered. He must have heard me because he let out a low growl. I smiled to myself.
“Hey Sakura!” She sighed and looked at Naruto. “Did those two fight all night?”
“No not really.” Sakura said thoughtfully.
I rolled my eyes. “Naruto keep to your own business please.”
He looked annoyed that I wanted him out of my business. I didn't get it. He was focused on me, or rather “Ramen Girl”, but he was supposed to be focused on Sakura. I was actually a little worried.
“Stacy!” Paige shouted.
“Hmm?” Stacy asked tiredly.
“Nothing you just seemed like you were about to fall asleep again.” Paige said. Stacy closed her eyes, and sighed.
From there Paige led our group of girls into a random streak. She tended to do that every now, and then when she was bored. I think we may have freaked out the others, apart from Tristan who eventually joined in, just a little bit, if not a lot.
About an hour later we watched as our sensei approached us. I simply stared at his figure, until Samantha found it necessary to begin to read me.
“Tori!” I was torn from my thoughts, something that was happening increasingly often. “Did you know his blood type is O?” She asked me.
Beech! She knew I was thinking about how I'd read that in an online bio while me, and Laraine were having a Kakashi quiz session with one another proving our love of Kakashi. “Samantha.” I began bluntly, then proceeded to use one of my most over used phrases back at home. “Pick up a book ,and stop reading me.”
She rolled her eyes to the sky as she always did when I said that, then Kakashi arrived in front of the group.
“You're late!” Sakura and Naruto shouted. Knowing that would happen daily I rolled my eyes, and asked, “Sensei can we please proceed with the survival training?” He looked at me with confusion slightly written in his features. I laughed.
“Alright.” He said. “Well here I have these 6 bells.” I looked at the six bells in his hand. That made no sense… he was supposed to have 2 bells not 6.
“Six bells?” I asked. I looked at Stacy, we both had the same worried expression.
“Yes.” He said. “2 bells for each team.”
“But there's only one team.” I said confused.
“No, there's 3.” He said. I inwardly gasped. Did he mean we had to fight too? The 6 of us only knew a few high tricks, nothing extravagant like him.
“We're just your advisers.” I said now very worried. What would this do to the story line?
“True.” He said. “But since you're expected to go on missions with us, you all should train with us as well.”
“Ugh.” I clutched my stomach. How could we pass? The only possible way we could pass would be if I could pull my friends aside, and tell them to work as a team. Then something dawned on me. “But we're a group of six.”
“I'll be splitting you into two groups of three.” He said. “Tori, Paige, and Samantha will be one team.” I sighed relief. Even if the other team didn't make it we three were the most powerful judging by our training with Iruka, and we also got along best. After all of the six of us we were closest considering we were the only ones to hang out daily. “Tristan, Stacy, and Haley will be another team.” I looked over at Stacy who immediately realized she needed to work with Tristan and Haley as a team even if they didn't get along that well. Thank god we were all wearing attire that you could fight in. Then he explained the lunch predicament. “With that being said, the rules of this exercise are you must get a bell by the time this alarm,” He set up the alarm on the stone, “goes off at 12. Each team has 2 bells.” I swayed slightly. I was becoming more uneasy with every word he spoke. I began to fiddle with the kunai Iruka had given me. “You can use any weapons you have, and you should fight as if your life is on the line. Ready, steady,” I gulped. I'd read this at least twice, but never thought I'd have to do it, “GO!”
Immediately I grabbed the wrist of my two new teammates as everyone jumped for a hiding space. When I was invisible so was everything I touched so that was my first move. “Samantha, Paige.” They looked at me even though I didn't know it. I still had their wrists therefore I knew they were there. “This exercise is about team work, so follow my lead got it?” They both nodded then realized I couldn't see them so used some kind of sound to reassure me. “Into the tree I said.” I let go, and my two teammates reappeared, and we each focused our chakra, and ran up the tree since it was the first thing we'd learn due to the fact we had to learn extravagantly fast.
Once we were sitting safely on a tree branch I took their wrist again causing them to disappear. From here we could watch the fight until we had to make our move. We waited a few minutes then I made the three of us visible again so we could talk.
“Paige, what do you say about an animal attack?” I asked her.
She smiled thoughtfully. “What type of animal?”
“I don't know.” I said. “Which do you do best?”
“Wolf.” She said.
“Ooh wolfey!” Samantha said happily.
“Samantha this is serious!” I said. “Kakashi isn't afraid to totally hurt us.”
“Then why do you love him?”
“He's mean at first.” I said. “But then he lightens up, and becomes really awesome. Until then he's my enemy… an enemy I must impress…”
She looked at me. She knew I could never manage to impress guys so she switched gears. “How can I help?”
I smiled, and looked down. Naruto was fighting the reading Kakashi doppleganger. “Tori, I'm going to turn into a wolf I want you to follow me, invisible, I'll distract Naruto then you can attack Kakashi. He won't know it's coming because he won't be able to see you.” I nodded. Right next to me on the branch a determined Paige transformed into a wolf.
“Samantha, I'm going to try to trap him, if I can then I want you to come down, and help me. Got it?” She nodded, then the two of us jumped off the branch, me now invisible again.
Paige gave off a loud howl causing everyone to direct their attention to her giving me the perfect time to attack. I quickly knocked Naruto into the lake using a nice punch right in his stomach, but still I had absolutely no idea I had that power, which is kind of awesome. Chya! Anyway I looked at Paige who was getting closer to Kakashi, I was surprised he hadn't realized I was there considering what I'd done. I exhaled reminding myself this wasn't the real Kakashi, then swiftly kicked him in the back making him fall forward fast. I clutched my stomach I was becoming very uneasy even if this wasn't the real Kakashi. I put my foot right on his lower back. I shuddered uncomfortably, as I shifted all my weight to my foot resting on his back. Sasuke, Sakura, Stacy, Haley, and Tristan were wondering why he was stuck on the floor until I became visible again. “Samantha!” I shouted. She dropped from the tree branch, and ran over to me. I exhaled very slowly, then handed her my kunai. She looked at me inquisitively. “Put it in his back.”
“You want me stab him?” She asked.
I had to choke back a few tears, even thought I knew it was very irrational. This is a doppleganger I kept assuring myself. “Samantha just do it!”
I must've scared her a little bit considering she did it immediately, with wide eyes. I was so happy to see him turn into a log as soon as the kunai hit him. Samantha looked confused, and had Paige not been a wolf she'd probably look confused too. On the other hand I simply took out the kunai, and skimmed the treetops. As soon as I found what I was looking for I threw my kunai strait at it. Wham! It hit the target perfectly.
Kakashi looked down at his book, which now had a giant tear in the middle where my kunai had hit it, and together they hit the branch. I smiled. I hated it when he read that book. Back at home it had been Chris' favorite way to make fun of me for having such an obsession with Kakashi. How I hated Chris, he'd been my enemy since kindergarten. We'd always competed with each other, and we absolutely loathed one another.
Samantha looked at me. “How'd you know…?”
I was breathing heavily. I smiled. “I have my ways.”
She nodded happily. Dang he must think I'm a coward, because again I became invisible.
“Tori? Tori where'd you go?” Samantha was asking worriedly as she looked around. I grabbed her wrist, considering I hadn't moved. Paige didn't need my help, she switched from wolf to lion causing members of the crowd to gasp. Naruto was out of the water now and ready for revenge. Paige began to growl angrily at Kakashi's figure. Samantha and I ran off to another tree to hide, but be ready to fight if needed. We sat down to rest. “You are an evil genius.” Samantha said.
“How so?” I asked focused on Paige and Kakashi.
“You totally knew that was a fake!” Samantha said. “And totally set us up!”
“I told you,” I began, “This exercise is about team work, and hopefully if it goes according to plan we won't need the bells to pass.”
“Why are you so bent on passing anyway?” She asked. I was still focused on Paige who was toying with Kakashi, I sighed at what she was doing. “If we don't pass we can go back to the hotel, and you can work at the ramen shop.”
“Yeah, but if we pass we have more of a chance of finding someone who can bring us back to our world.” I said. Samantha could tell that wasn't the only reason.
“You want to impress Kakashi don't you?” She asked.
“Well…” I began, but was cut off.
“Don't lie to me.”
“Can we please just pay attention to the fight?” I asked.
“Fine.” She said knowing that if she took the subject any further she'd probably end up like Naruto in the lake.
Paige had laid off, and now Sakura could be heard screaming, probably due to the fake harmed Sasuke. The real Sasuke was fighting Kakashi, and Naruto was hanging in the trap. After Sasuke had been beaten it was Tristan's turn. It was now approaching noon, and there wasn't much time left if Stacy's team wanted to pass.
Without even revealing his hiding place Tristan opened his mouth, and began to emit a high pitched noise. “Dangit. Samantha cover your ears.” We both covered our ears before anything could happen to us. A little annoyingly Kakashi did the same thing, but since he could no longer defend himself with both hands. I watched Haley walk out onto the field, and use a simple hand gesture freezing Kakashi in that position. I envied her power, but still mine was good after all I had the element of surprise on my side. Since Haley had to focus all her energy when she did this she couldn't attack him. Tristan's screeching stopped as he and Stacy came out ready to fight. I smiled. Thank god Stacy got it! Paige was pretty much just watching. Stacy, and Tristan were about ready to fight. Stacy still couldn't totally grasp ninjutsu, but Tristan was doing really well so she was merely there to make sure he was equipped with weaponry. He threw a kunai at Kakashi's stomach. He made his target easily, because he like me had wonderful aim. Apparently Kakashi had pulled a replacement jutsu before Tristan had started screeching, because in his place was that dang log again.
The bell rang.
I sighed. We hadn't gotten any bells. I thought that if we used teamwork like Kakashi wanted we could get one.
We lined up over near the memorial stone. Cell 7 in the middle, Me, Paige, and Samantha on the left, Tristan, Stacy, and Haley on the right.
“None of you need worry about going back to the academy.” Kakashi said. Me, and Stacy stayed sullen though. “Your all helpless none of you will ever be shinobi!” I sighed. “No one in cell 7 that is.” I looked at him.
“What do you mean?” I asked confused.
“The six of you took to your new teams easily, and used teamwork to your advantage.” I looked up at him. “The six of you understood the point of three men cells.” I high-fived Samantha who afterwards had to rub her hand in pain.
“What's the point?” Sakura asked.
I smiled, and looked at her, and just as Kakashi was about to say it I said, “Teamwork! The point is that no matter how powerful you are alone everyone works better as a team.” I knew that wasn't what Kakashi was going to say, but I like my explanation better. “For instance, I held down Kakashi Sensei's doppleganger so Samantha could stab it. And Haley froze his other doppleganger so Tristan, and Stacy could attack it.”
He nodded. “Not exactly what I was going to say, but it makes sense. Naruto you decided to fight me on your own and completely disregard your teammates. Sakura you focused all your attention on Sasuke even though you didn't know where he was, and Sasuke you were convinced the other two were just in your way.” I looked over the three of them. “You three will have another chance after lunch. Sakura and Sasuke feel free to help yourselves to those bento boxes. Naruto doesn't get anything since he tried to steal the lunches for himself.” I yawned. The fight had taken a lot out of me. “You six come with me.” He said to us. We all nodded, and followed him away.
Sasuke and Sakura started eating. Kakashi told us to hide, and wait for them to use teamwork in some way or another. I hid in a tree making myself invisible. I waited for Sakura to begin feeding Naruto. It was dull, but after she started it was wonderfully reassuring to hear Kakashi say, “You…pass!”
