Chapter 8: Zero-Kun! Rescue me!
"Another worthless day over with." Ryuu said, walking down the roads of Konoha with Zero and Den.
"It isn’t that worthless." Zero said, patting one of his pockets causing it to jingle from the money inside.
"It is still a worthless day. Why don’t we get to do anything fun?" Ryuu asked placing his hands behind his head as he walked.
"I don’t mind it." Den said, quietly, looking towards the ground.
"Of course you don’t mind, you are a boring person." Ryuu said, angrily while turning up the volume of his music.
"No wonder, Sakura-chan doesn’t like you." Den looked up at Ryuu ready to retaliate but he had already taken off from him and Zero.
"Don’t let him get to you." Zero said, in an uncharacteristically soft voice. "He is just disappointed that being a ninja isn’t anything like we thought." Den looked at Zero briefly before returning his attention to the ground as they walked in silence for a while. "Well, I’ll see you tomorrow Den-san. Don’t give up on Sakura-chan, just yet." Zero said, turning his path towards a new road while Den continued, surprised by Zero’s thoughtful words.
"But am I really a boring person?" He asked himself-out loud. Suddenly a voice yelled out from behind him.
"Den-san." Called a dull and bored sounding voice. He slowly turned around to see Shikamaru standing behind him rubbing the back of his neck.
"Shikamaru-san?" Den asked, wondering what he could want with him.
"Den-san. How have you been?" He asked tilting his head a bit.
"Well, good. I guess." Den said, looking away feeling uncomfortable.
"Have you had any big missions?" Shikamaru asked looking up at the sky.
"Not really."
"Yea it’s been kind of boring here as well, but that’s ok with me."
"Yeah." Den started to walk off assuming this conversation had ended.
"Have you made your move on Sakura-chan?" Shikamaru asked stretching a bit. Den suddenly stopped and looked back.
"What?!" Den asked looking at him wide eyed.
"Well I assumed you liked her. You make it seem like you do. Besides that, have you seen Ino-chan?" He asked changing the subject and turning around to walk off.
"No, I don’t think I have." Den said, quickly.
"Well, Zero-san is your friend. You might want to tell him to watch out for her. She has been saying strange things about Hinata-san and Him." Shikamaru said, walking away from Den.
"Okay." Den said quietly, and began his venture down the road again. "I’ll tell him later. I’m sure Ino-san can’t do anything in the few moments remaining in the day." He finished, aloud to himself.
Ryuu opened the door to his apartment and slowly walked in.
"Stupid lights." He said aloud, looking up at the dead light bulb hanging over a chair. He slowly sat down, and closed his eyes.
"I know you’re in here." Ryuu said, quietly. A slightly chilling chuckle let out from the darkness.
"I see." A deep voice emitted, from a dark corner.
"I don’t feel like playing your games, Necron-san." Ryuu said, growing irritated.
"That’s not nice to say to your big brother, Ryuu-kun." Necron said, walking out from the darkness. A tall, pail, skeleton like figure, wearing clothes similar to a Chuunin‘s with a snake symbol on his shirt; stood there with a twisted smile on his face. Ryuu opened his eyes and turned his head.
"You’re not my brother, my family died a long time ago." Ryuu said feeling disgusted by the very presence of Necron.
"Ryuu-kun, how can you say that? If it weren’t for me, you would have been killed alongside your foolish mother and father." Necron said, cracking his neck, as his eerie smile remained.
"What do you want?" Ryuu asked, lowering his voice.
"I have just come to make sure, you remember the mission." Necron said, looking up at the ceiling. "The Hebi clan elders, have their doubts about you. You should prove them wrong, brother." Ryuu stood up and opened his door.
"Of course I remember the plan. Now get out, Necron-san, now." Ryuu said, angrily pointing at the now opened door.
"As you wish, little brother. I’ll see you, at another time." Necron said, before disappearing in a blur, which ran out through the door. Ryuu quickly slammed the door and sat down on the chair again, staring intently toward ground.
Hinata stood staring off into the distance in-between a few trees. "Hinata-sama?" Zero’s voice called from behind her. She suddenly tensed up and turned around with a slightly red face.
"Z-Z-Zero-kun." She said, hiding her mouth behind her hands and looking toward the ground rather than him.
“Why were you hiding over here?” Zero asked, somewhat perplexed by her odd behavior.
“Umm, w-well.” She began, before trailing off, unsure of how to respond without sounding foolish.
“It’s alright, I think I understand.” He stated, truly not understanding at all. Glancing away from her for a moment, he noticed the sun setting off in the distance.
“How pretty.” Zero said, without thought, as Hinata’s face began to blush very brightly, thinking the comment was aimed at her.
“We should probably get home before it gets too dark.” He added, not noticing the glow of her face through her hands.
“O-Okay.” She answered in a quick whisper, as the two began down the road, in silence.
Every few steps, Hinata glanced toward Zero, but quickly hid her face every time he looked back. After a few moments of this Zero let out a depressed sigh.
“So, what’s on your mind, Hinata-sama?” He asked, trying to make some form of contact with her.
“U-Umm. Wh-what you s-said.” She answered in a nearly inaudible whisper, as Zero turned his head toward her. Quickly looking away again, her face still somewhat red, she answered again.
“B-back there.” She added, with a shudder, as Zero scratched his head.
“I said, something? What was it?” He asked returning the question, as Hinata lost the will to repeat his words.
“N-nothing.” She said, tapping her fingers together, apparently dispirited again. With another sigh, Zero reached over, patting her on the head.
“I guess if you’re okay with it, there’s no point in me prying.” He finished with resignation, as Hinata nodded slightly, apparently satisfied with this response. Silence subtly took over again, as the two reached the manor.
A black bird, with a red ribbon tied to its foot, was flying towards a large building, barely being lit by the setting moon. The bird circled this building, letting out a screeching khaw. As if responding to the birds call a window slowly slid open. The bird quickly dove through the window and landed on a desk, hopping about impatiently. A hand reached out snatching, the bird and another hand pulled the paper tied to its foot, and then let the bird go as it flew back out the window. "It seems my son has gotten into a bit of trouble." The hokage said, clearing his throat.
"What should we do?" An elderly woman asked, sitting at a side of the desk. The hokage paused for a moment, smoking his pipe and looking at the ceiling.
"Umeko-san should be free. Get her to deal with this." He replied. An elderly man stood up and walked out the door. After several moments of ruffling through papers, the doors suddenly burst open.
"What’s the meaning of waking me up this early!?" Umeko yelled pulling at her tangled hair and adjusting her jacket. Everyone in the room, except the Hokage, seemed to be startled by her sudden intrusion.
"We have an urgent rescue mission, I figured, you should be the one to take care of it." The Hokage said, adjusting his pipe.
"Can’t someone else take care of this!?" Umeko continued yelling, slamming her foot into the ground. Some of the elder’s faces twisted at the lack of respect Umeko seemed to be showing.
"If they could have, I wouldn’t have bothered you. Now, here." He replied handing out a piece of paper. Umeko quickly walked up stomping her feet like a child and snatched the paper from his hand, quickly glancing over it.
"There should be some, kind of rule that, we ninja get paid four-times as much if awoken to a mission." Umeko grumbled. The Hokage simply cracked a smile.
"You may want to search the town for at least two others to join you." He said, still smiling. Umeko’s expression of anger and annoyance suddenly changed to curiosity. She slowly stepped back towards the door and opened it, while still facing the Hokage. He looked back, bewildered by her strange behavior.
"You said, at lest two! You didn’t clarify any rank!" She yelled, jumping through the open door and quickly slamming it. Her footsteps could be heard as she quickly ran off before anyone had the chance to stop her. One of the elders quickly stood up, but the Hokage placed out his hand, to motioning him to stop.
"But, Hokage-sama, she intends to bring her gennin team with her!" He said, his voice sounding worried and confused.
"Do not worry, Umeko-san wouldn’t let anything bad happen to them." He said, but then looked out the window after reassuring the elder. "I hope." He said, under his breath.
"Zero-kun." Hiashi called, outside his door. Zero slowly opened his eyes, looking out his window to see it was still dark. He quickly sat up and looked over at Hiashi, to see Umeko standing next to him.
"Umeko-sensei?" Zero asked in a weak and tired voice.
"We have a mission." Umeko said, in an excited whisper. They quickly shut Zero’s door, as he slowly stood up and began changing.
"So early." Zero mumbled, stumbling around in the darkness. Zero quickly fixed his hair and walked out of his door, to see something in the corner of his eye down the hall. He looked over to see Hanabi standing alone, watching him. Zero smiled at her and waved as he quickly turned around pulling at his cape. He walked past Hinata’s room then stopped and stepped backwards, he quietly slid open her a crack to see her sleeping soundly in her bed. Zero smiled for a moment staring at her, until a hand came down on his shoulder.
"Checking up on your little friend?" Umeko said, giggling. Zero quickly shut the door as his face turned a dark red.
"Um, Um, Um, I was just, I was um." Zero said, stumbling over his, own words. Umeko began to laugh and pushed him down the hall near the door, where Den and Ryuu were standing.
"Zero-san? What’s the matter with you?" Den asked in a groggy voice holding himself for warmth. Zero hid his face and walked past them, out the door.
"Lets go!" Umeko shouted, as they walked outside taking off with out them.
"Why so early?" Ryuu asked yawning and chasing after her.
"Lets just get this over with." Zero said, following after Ryuu.
"This is annoying." Den said, aloud to himself, following after Zero.
Umeko was standing by herself at the gate, staring off down the road, waiting impatiently as Ryuu, Zero and Den caught up to her.
"You guys are so slow!" Umeko yelled angrily. Ryuu gave her a dirty look, but she took no attention to it.
"What exactly are we doing?" Den asked, yawning and struggling to keep his eyes open.
"Well, you guys said, you wanted a real mission!" Umeko yelled in excitement.
"What kind of mission?" Den asked sounding a bit worried.
"It’s a super, A-rank, rescue mission!" Umeko shouted, smiling and closing her eyes. Den looked at Zero briefly who just rolled his eyes.
"You said something like that the first time we had a mission." Zero pointed out, staring at her in disbelief.
"Aw, come on." Umeko said, giving him a pouted look and swaying her hips back and forth. Zero quickly turned around and folded his arms.
"Would you act like an adult for once?" He asked, in a low voice. Umeko simply giggled and stared at him for a moment.
"Oh that’s right! We better not waste time. Asuma-san and the rest team-ten are in deep trouble." Umeko said, placing a finger by her mouth. Zero’s eyes widened and turned around quickly.
"Wait! You, mean Ino-Chan’s team?" Zero asked sounding deeply concerned.
"Oh, so you know that girl?" Umeko asked with a dark smile.
"Yes, and I’d rather not be the one to rescue her!" Zero yelled and began walking back, before Umeko grabbed his cape.
"Aw, come now, Zero-kun, your not setting a good example for your fellow teammates." Umeko taunted. Zero stopped, and turned back around angrily.
"Fine I’ll help, but I do it under extreme protest." He finished, folding his arms.
"Ok then let’s go!" Umeko shouted happily and began walking down the road.
"Zero-kun." Ryuu said, placing his headphones over his ears. Zero quickly turned towards him. "Umeko-sensei controls you." He said, smiling and walking off, as Den began to laugh also.
"Oh shut up." Zero said, looking towards the ground and following slowly behind them.
After a few seconds of laughter at his expense, Zero finally spoke out, changing the topic.
“What type of mission, could possibly put an entire team and a Jounin in so much trouble they need backup? And how could another replica-team, possibly save them?” He asked in a rather grave tone, as his point suddenly struck Den and Ryuu, also. Just as the group began to feel discouragement, Umeko let out a loud laugh.
“Aww, is that what’s bugging you!?” She returned, still laughing to herself, half turning her head back.
“Umm, Zero-kun does have a point-” Den began, as Umeko abruptly cut him off, and continued.
“They are in a little trouble, yea. Its only three ‘fresh’ gennin, and Asuma-kun! With me on the rescue team, what could ‘possibly’ go wrong? Really!?” She asked with obvious optimism, as Ryuu lowered his head slightly at the answer.
“Well, we could all be captured, tortured or they might just kill us, but.” He replied, trailing off.
“Be happy for once. You guys wanted a ‘real mission’, and now that you finally have one, you’re all gloomy!” She sassed, as each of the gennin quietly followed Umeko as she sped up.
“What, got them in trouble though?” Ryuu asked again, still interested in the details.
“Fine. I’ll explain all the small stuff, too.” Umeko said, in an obviously bored voice, at the thought alone.
“They were originally sent to check out a few ‘supernatural thieves’. Since there weren’t any signs of real danger, or anything, Asuma and his team were sent. But, once they got there-” Umeko was suddenly interrupted.
“They were attacked by a group of thieving ninja? “ Ryuu asked, as Umeko spoke over him, ignoring his question altogether.
“They were ambushed! A force of, apparently, rouge ninja caught them off guard, and injured Asuma-kun, putting his team in a lot of danger. I’m betting, since his team was almost completely dependant on him, they won’t hold long if someone else finds them. Basically, they’re pinned and we have to find and bail them out.” Umeko finished, with a sigh.
“You mean we don’t even know where they are!?” Den asked, surprised by this information.
“Hey, that’s part of the mission! The message warned to keep our eyes peeled for ‘something strange’. That’s our warning, so keep alert!” Umeko stated enthusiastically, speeding up yet again.
“This doesn’t look to be easy.” Zero said, under his breath, as the team struggled to keep up with Umeko.
After what seemed to be a few hours of travel, Umeko stopped in her tracks, Beckoning for her team to do the same.
“We should be at the border soon. Are all you guys ready?” She asked her normal tone, as Zero, Den and Ryuu looked about slowly, hinting they were still anxious.
“W-we’re ready.” Ryuu answered for the group, as Umeko turned around.
“Sure, you say that, but I don’t think any of you could do a thing the way you’re acting right now! Calm down, think straight, and enjoy. Your performance here may affect what missions you’ll be stuck with in the future; or, whether you even get the option to ‘have’ missions in the future.”
“What do you mean?” Den asked, as Zero answered for her.
“She means, mess up too badly, and we might not ‘make it’ to see another mission.” He answered having seen her point, as She placed her hand on her hip.
“Okay then, no more chatter! We’re getting near the wood’s they’re pinned at.” She began, as her tone changed to one that was more serious.
“Once we get near the woodland, we’ll have to move quickly, if there really are a lot of them, it wouldn’t be good to be stuck against ‘too many’ of them at once.” With that said, she quickly jumped ahead, the team following. Within only a few moments, the plain’s end was visible, and the forest was right on the horizon. Ryuu, Zero and Den slowed slightly at the sight of the forest, as Umeko turned her head to notice a gap between herself and the rest of the team.
“Hey! Keep close, unless you plan on searching alone!” She scolded, increasing her speed further.
“There aren’t any I can see from. Maybe there are only a few, or something.” Den suggested, half to himself, as Ryuu looked in his direction.
“Really, did you expect a wall of them sitting here waiting for us? Their searching too, you know!” He answered back, apparently having lost his anxieties about the mission.
“Hurry up.” Zero said, keeping his eye on Umeko who was getting closer to the forest as they spoke. She suddenly stopped mid-step, lowering her head a bit, and looking toward the forest back and forth. In and instant she took three or four small leaps back, as several kunai shot from the woods, missing her, just barely. In an instant, a relatively tall slender man, wearing a semi-dirty black outfit, emerged from woods staring with a grin toward Umeko.
“I think I found one, sir!” He called, as two more men, each dressed similarly suddenly emerged also, standing next to the tall man.
“Oh? She doesn’t seem meet any of the descriptions. Maybe she’s just a passerby, ha ha!” Laughed one of the men, as he slowly walked toward Umeko, who simply grinned back, taking no action. Just as he reached a few paces from her, Zero, Ryuu and Den finally caught up.
“Umeko-sensei?” Zero asked, looking forward, as the man who was approaching stopped.
“Oh, so she has a team, I suppose we can all have fun, then.” He said, as his two comrades quickly encircled the group. Umeko simply smiled, and laughed.
“Just watch for now, take notes or something.” She whispered, looking over the opponents, who were patiently waiting for her side to make the first move.
“I think they’re scared! Three kids, and some ‘chick’, against us? This seems unfair.” The tall man scoffed, as Umeko’s smile grew large. Placing her hand on the hilt of her sword, she slowly walked toward the man, who laughed openly at this. Umeko began to laugh with him, as she grew closer.
“Ha ha, so I’m just ‘some chick’, huh?” She asked, as the man .
“Aw, I didn’t offend you, did-“ Just before he could finish, there was a shimmer of light, followed by a sharp pain in his side. His eyes widened, as he looked down to see Umeko staring back at him, her sheathe jammed deeply in his side.
“Ha! I prefer ‘The Iron Wolf’ to ‘some chick’, got it!?” Umeko finished said, repealing her sheathe, as the enemy ninja, fell back a few paces, catching himself. His allies stood dumbfounded by the shear speed she had struck, as Umeko’s eyes turned toward one them.
“What? You’re going to let me clobber him, while you just watch?” She called toward them, as the staggering ninja, stared angrily toward her.
“She’s mine!” He called angrily, as he grabbed a kunai from his side-pocket, and disappeared in a blur of speed.
“Where, did he go?” Den asked looking about, as Zero also began looking.
“Completely vanished? Was it a genjutsu?” Zero questioned quietly, also completely unsure. Turning slightly, Ryuu shook his head.
“No, he didn’t use any techniques, just shear speed.” He answered blandly, keeping his eyes ahead, as his teammates sat contemplating his quick grasp of the situation.
In an instant, he appeared above Umeko, throwing several kunai, which she easily parried. Just as he landed, her sheathe once again met the same spot on his side, as his eyes widened, and he slouched backwards, apparently unconscious.
“Who’s next?” She called, staring between the two, as each stepped forward; one wielding a chain-sickle, and the other pulling a large metallic rod from his back.
“Fine, both of you at once, if it makes you feel better.” She teased, as the two men stared at each other, then toward the team, and then nodded silently. Instead of rushing Umeko, the two remaining ninja, jumped toward Den, Zero and Ryuu. Quickly jumping aside, the three barely missed the swing from the chain, just as the rod came crashing down from above. Instead of connecting, however, it fell in two pieces, Umeko’s sword raised just above her head in front. Before the ninja could react with his half-rod, her hilt came crashing over his head, instantly knocking him to the ground. Before she could turn to the remaining enemy, his chain wrapped around her blade.
“Ha, I win!” He called, as he quickly formed a seal in his hands.
“Bakuhatsu Kusari!” He shouted, as the end of his chain, wrapped around Umeko’s blade, exploded, engulfing the area in dirt and smoke. Ryuu, Den and Zero watched in silence as the smoke began to clear.
“Ha! Nobody can evade my ‘explosive chain’! Not even some fancy-class, team leader.” He declared loudly, sure that he had done away with her. As the smoke cleared however, a figure showed in the middle, as another gust of wind blew the remainder of the smoke out of the way, revealing a figure. It, however, was wearing a full plate of, what looked to be iron, and a helmet in the shape of a wolf’s head.
Completely stunned, the enemy ninja took no action, staring blankly toward the figure that his chain laid in front of. With a near-instant dash, the back end of the figure’s sword met the ninja, instantly rendering him unconscious.
“Umeko?” Zero asked, as the strange armor turned toward him.
“Of course!” She answered, as the armor slowly dissolved, entering a pouch hanging from her belt.
“How did you, do that?” Den asked, completely perplexed as to what had just happened.
Before Umeko could answer however, Ryuu folded his arms speaking in her place.
“It was obviously a technique. You should have figured that much, Den-san.” He finished, as Den looked away embarrassed for asking. However Umeko took no time before continuing toward the woods.
“Hurry up! We don’t have time to sit around!” She shouted, waiting just outside the edge of the forest, as Zero, Ryuu and Den quickly caught up, and the group quickly disappeared into the woods.
Quickly leaping from tree to tree and looking about, the team scoured area after area, completely unsure of exactly what, or where they were even suppose to be looking.
“’Something strange’ could be a rock with moss on the wrong side! Could they have been less broad?” Ryuu asked angrily, finding the entire venture completely devoid of aim.
“The mission is to complain! Keep looking; the clue will ‘probably’ be more outstanding than a rock!” Umeko replied, looking over a tree very closely from top to bottom.
“But, Umeko-sensei, I don’t think your ‘secret passage in a tree’ idea is right, either.” Zero added, sighing with obvious frustration, looking around the branches of various surrounding trees.
“Hmph! Den-kun, have you found any leads?” Umeko yelled toward the treetop, as an area above began to rustle, followed by a cracking noise.
“What is he doing up there? Trying to get us noticed?” Ryuu stated, with a degree of frustration similar to the rest of his allies. The rustling continued, followed by another crack. This time however, a relatively large branch from above collapsed, nearly striking Zero. Following the debris, Den clumsily fell, barely catching himself on the branch Ryuu stood on.
“Did you find anything?” Umeko asked again, as Den rebalanced himself on the branch.
“Well, I thought I might find a message or something if I looked from above but-”
Quickly interrupting his explanation, Zero reiterated the question.
“You don’t have to explain the entire thing, did you find anything or not?” Shaking his head from side to side, Den looked down.
“No, there wasn’t anything up there, not even a bird.” Scratching her head in slight dismay, Umeko joined her team among the branches again.
“Even the animals are gone. There’s nothing here, let’s keep moving!” She proclaimed, renewing the spirit of the team. Immediately moving, they continued checking each area, for quite some time, until finally coming to a small clearing.
“We’ve been at it for hours. Take a break for a minute” Umeko said, growing annoyed at the absence of any clues or hints. Quickly joining her at the side of the clearing, everybody sat among the grass.
“How do we know they haven’t already been found?” Den asked in a depressed tone, prompting Zero to smack him on the back of the head.
“We just have to not think about it.” Zero’s tone was unusually cold at the prospect of giving up, though Ryuu simply ignored the question altogether.
“Why aren’t you saying something?” Ryuu questioned turning toward Umeko, whom he noticed was looking deeply into the clearing. Slowly everyone else’s eyes turned toward the area, seeing nothing more than a mother and baby dear, eating from a bush. Zero and Ryuu continued to stare, as a slight smile came over Umeko’s face.
“What?” Den asked half to himself, as Umeko reached over, pulling a small pebble from the ground.
“Watch!” Ryuu answered under his breath, as Umeko threw the rock right at the bush, prompting no response from the dear. However, an echo seemed to emanate from behind the bush.
“Those aren’t animals at all, they’re genjutsu.” Zero said, with surprise, as the team stood up, walking to the bush. Pulling it to the side, Umeko revealed a small rocky cave entrance.
“Asumsa-kun?” She shouted down the hole, as the two-genjutsu dear disappeared, and a voice called from below.
“Umeko-san!? ‘You actually found us?” Asked Asuma, in a tone of complete shock. Entering the cave, the team looked around. Chouji sat in a corner shoveling a bag of chips into his mouth, as Shikamaru laid lazily against the wall, with his hands behind his head.
Ino immediately jumped up and looked over the team.
“Ryuu-kun and Den-san!” She began, as her eyes shifted among the group, noticing the absence of Zero.
“Where is Zero-kun!?” She demanded, pushing her way through the group and looking behind them, then asking repeatedly again.
“How troublesome.” Shikamaru said, turning his eyes away from her, as a grin came to Umeko’s face.
“Oh, Zero, please greet your comrades.” She sat still for a moment, though Zero still did not show himself.
"Oh, Zero, I Order you to greet your comrades." Umeko said, with a laugh. Zero stepped out from behind her and stared off into another direction of Ino.
"Zero-kun!" She yelled as her eyes light up, at the site of him.
"Oh god." Zero muttered to himself still not looking at her. Suddenly her arms went around him. "Stop it Ino-san!" He shouted, but this didn’t get to her.
"Zero-kun, Zero-kun, Zero-kun!" She yelled excitedly rubbing her cheek against his.
"I didn’t know you had such a cute girl friend." Umeko said, chuckling, as Zero’s face turned red at this point.
"She’s not my girl-" He started to say before Ino interrupted.
"Girl friend! Cute!" She shouted jumping up and down while still holding on to Zero. Zero looked over at Den who stared at him.
"Don’t you even think about doing ‘that’ again." Den said, stepping away.
"Damn it." Zero muttered, as Ino continued her overly energetic greeting to Zero.
"How troublesome." Shikamaru said, from a corner watching Ino in disgust. While Chouji sat nearby, eating a bag of chips.
"Chouji-san, isn’t that a bit loud?" Den asked, looking him over with a worried face. Chouji suddenly stopped eating and looked over at Den with a dark look. "Uh, never mind." Den said, quickly scooting away from him.
"So what’s the damage?" Umeko asked, pushing past everyone and looking around. Asuma suddenly stood up and leaned against the wall.
"Just three S-ranked missing nin and about twenty or so rouge ninjas running through the forest." He said, in an obviously sarcastic tone.
"Is that all!?" Umeko yelled. "If I knew it was just that I would have sent these three on there own, to save you weakling-kun." Asuma’s eyes opened wide, with annoyance at Umeko’s taunt and arrogance.
"Do you even realize how dan-" He started to say, but noticed she had her back to him and was talking to the gennin, again. "What the hell are you doing!?" He shouted at her. She slowly turned her head back, showing she had one of his cigarettes in her mouth, and was smoking it.
"Nothing." She said, innocently. Before Asuma could say anything she jumped up and yelled. "Ok lets do this guys, there’s eight of us and twenty three, no wait, I did beat those other three. Twenty of them left! We can win!"
"But, but." Asuma started to disagree, as everyone looked at her completely shocked.
"No buts! We are going to beat them all!" She shouted again. Zero looked out of the cave to the sky; with the feeling things were going to get a lot worse really fast.
