If I were strong enough, if I were wrong enough to be someone like you
Would you have let me come to be with you
If I had made my own and I had overcome to be someone like you
Would you have let me come to be with you
If I could be with someone like you
Would you, would you be strong enough for me
And if I could stay with someone like you
Would you, would you be strong enough
If I had made my way if I had chose to stay and be someone like you
Would you have let me come to be with you
If I had made myself become like someone else and be someone like you
Would you have let me come to be with you
If I could be with someone like you
Would you, would you be strong enough for me
And if I could stay with someone like you
Would you, would you be strong enough for me
Can you see me holding you right in my arms, right in my arms
If I could be with someone who`s just like you
Would you, would you, would you be strong enough for me
If I could be with someone like you
Would you, would you be strong enough for me
And if I could stay with someone like you
Would you, would you be strong enough for me

Chapter 9

Hinata sat at the front window staring out at the snow falling. Hinata sighed; she hadn't seen snow in Konoha for years. She shivered and pulled on her sweatshirt. Naruto was due back from his mission two days ago. She was supposed to go on a mission yesterday, but at the last minute Lady Tsunade pulled her and put her on the inactive list. She still didn't know why. She felt a small knot of anxiety form in her chest. What if the Cloud ninja were after her again? Hinata took a deep breath and let it out slowly. There had to be another reason. She felt the pressure in her chest let up and took another deep breath. She turned back to the window and promptly passed out.

"See, I told you," Ino hissed at Sakura as she picked the lock. "I told you we should have just knocked." Ino pulled the chakra string and the lock clicked open. "It would have been so much easier to knock," she said glaring at Sakura.

Sakura nipped at her neck. "Do you know how hot you are when you're pissed?"

"Kami. Your lips are cold! Stop that," Ino griped. She stepped into the house. "Hinata? Sakura's sorry she doesn't know how to knock," she grunted as the pink haired medic punched her in the arm hard enough to make it go numb.

Hinata sat up and pulled herself up to a standing position. She looked up to see Ino and Sakura coming though the front door. She smiled weakly at her friends and sat down.

Sakura stepped forward and sat next to Hinata. "Gomen, I was just checking to see if you were here. I heard a rumor you'd been pulled off missions. Is everything okay?" she asked.

Hinata shrugged, "I don't know. At the last minute Tenten showed up and said I'd been pulled. Then this crap started." She waved her hand at the window. "I haven't made it over to Tsunade-sama's office to find out what the hell is going on," she frowned and looked out the window again. "Naruto was due home two days ago."

Ino sat on the coffee table in front of Hinata. She leaned forward and could see the tears welling up in Hinata's eyes. "Hey, come on. It's the storm, that's all. They'll be home any minute. You'll see," Ino said grinning at the heiress.

"Yeah, Ino's right. Everything has been delayed," Sakura said nodding.

Hinata looked out the window again. "Yeah," she mumbled.

Ino cleared her throat. "We wanted to talk to you about your party," the blond said looking over at Sakura.

"Party for what?"

Sakura and Ino looked at each other in surprise. "Um, your birthday is in three weeks," the pinkette finally squeaked out.

Hinata looked at Ino and smiled. "Can you believe I forgot?"

Sakura's eyes widened. "How could you forget your own birthday?"

Hinata shrugged and looked out the window. She wanted Naruto to be home and safe. She really hadn't thought any farther ahead than that.

Naruto brushed the snow off of his coat and looked over at Shikamaru and Sai. "What do you guys think? Do we keep pushing or stay here for the night?" he said, leaning forward and shaking the snow out of his hair. He thought about Hinata and hoped she didn't pull a mission in this storm. {It's insanely cold. Kit you should put on another shirt,} the fox hissed at him. Naruto rolled his eyes at the fox's comment; the others took it a sign of impatience.

Shikamaru scratched his head a looked over at Sai, who shrugged. "I guess we stay here for a few hours or until the storm lets up some," he said shining his flashlight towards the back of the cave looking for anything to burn for warmth. He found a small pile of wood near the back wall of the cave. He had a small fire going in no time.

Naruto sat down and frowned. "Man, we should have been home two days ago. Stupid storm," the blond chunin huffed.

Sai just looked up and shrugged. He pulled his sketch book out of his bag. "The storm doesn't have a brain, therefore it can't be stupid," he said in a flat voice.

Shikamaru groaned and glared at the ROOT member. "Don't get him started. You guys are acting like troublesome women."

He rubbed his temples and prepared himself mentally for a few hours in a small area with Naruto and Sai.

Naruto sat against the wall of the cave and pulled an extra sweatshirt out of his backpack. He threw it to Sai, who didn't have a sweatshirt.

"Thanks, dickless," the artist said with a fake smile, pulling on the sweatshirt. He picked up his book and started to draw the blond chunin, who was staring out into the storm.

Shikamaru moved closer to the fire. He glanced over at the artist and then to Naruto. He arched his eyebrow, Sai was drawing Naruto? 'Weird,' he thought. He closed his eyes and took advantage of the silence while it lasted.

Naruto stared out into the storm and thought about Hinata. Her birthday was coming up and he needed to get her a gift. {You could ask her, kit. I know it's what she really wants,} the fox hissed. 'What?' {Come on, kit. Ask her to marry you. I swear, I have to explain everything,} Kyuubi grumbled. Naruto rubbed his eyes. 'I can't do that. I mean, that's not a gift,' he said in his mind. {Meh, you need to ask her before its too late,} Kyuubi growled. 'Too late for what? Tell me about my dad,' Naruto asked hoping to silence the fox youkai. {Your dad...He was one of the most promising young ninja ever to come out of Konoha.} His head jerked upwards slightly. 'Did you know my mother?' he asked. {Sadly, no. All I know is what Minato told me,} the fox sighed. Naruto was wide awake now. 'How did they die?' {Your dad died fighting me. I'm sorry; I don't know what happened to your mother.} 'Hn...Interesting. No one has told me this much before. It's nice to know some of the story,' he thought. {She was a beautiful kunoichi from Whirlpool country. That is all I know about your mother,} Kyuubi said sleepily. 'Whirlpool country? Where is that?' {You got me, kit. Never been,} the fox yawned and retreated in to the corner of his mind.

Sai looked up from his drawing and studied the blond jinchuriki. He'd been told the entire story of Naruto and the Kyuubi prior to joining team 7. He wondered what Naruto could thinking about; he had such a serious look on his face. "Oi dickless! If you keep staring into the snow you'll go blind," the artist said.

Naruto looked at Sai and rolled his eyes. "It's dark, baka. You need sunlight to go snow-blind," he glanced over at Shikamaru, who was sleeping. "Have you ever heard of Whirlpool country?" he asked the ink user.

Sai's eyebrows rose slightly; the real question here was: how did Naruto know about Whirlpool? And how did he know about snow-blindness? "Hai," he answered picking up his pencil. "What makes you ask about a lost country?" he asked without looking up.

Naruto looked at the artist and frowned. He supposed the ROOT member might know what he was talking about. "What do you mean lost? How do you lose an entire country?" he asked his voice full of confusion. He looked over at the sketchbook, "Why are you drawing me?"

"Don't ask me, I didn't lose it. My ROOT team went looking for Whirlpool once. It has, quite literally fallen off the map. I'm bored, that's why I'm drawing you," he said looking up this time. He held his book up; he'd drawn Naruto in a fighting stance surrounded by chakra that formed nine tails.

Naruto narrowed his eyes into blue slits. "How do you know about Kyuubi? No one is supposed to know except a few people. It's on a need to know basis," he demanded.

Sai went back to drawing after a few seconds he looked up. "I guess I needed to know," he said with a shrug. "How do you know about Whirlpool?"

Naruto stammered for a moment; was Whirlpool country something he wasn't supposed to know about? He laughed nervously. "I heard my mother was from there and I just wondered where it was. I'd never heard of it before," he said quickly.

"The last shinobi to find it was the Fourth Hokage. I've heard rumors that he brought back a shinobi with him too," Sai said. Normally he didn't listen to rumors, but he'd been really bored lately. He shaded a few more areas and looked up at Naruto. "Who told you that's where your mother is from?" the ink user asked him.

"Ah...well, you know...It was just something I overheard somewhere. I was just thinking about it. I really would like to know who my parents were," he said looking out into the storm once more.

Sai looked at Naruto and wondered why he wanted to know. Sai never knew his parents. He'd never had any desire
to find out either. He flipped to a new page and started to sketch. He looked up at Naruto again. "You know who I think you look like?"

Naruto returned his attention to the artist. "I can hardly wait," he said in a sarcastic tone.

Sai sketched for a couple more minutes and held the book up; it was a sketch of the Fourth Hokage.

Naruto and Sai sat in silence for what seemed like an eternity. Finally the artist spoke, "You don't think so?"

Naruto looked at the sketch again and laughed. "Yeah, sure and you also have oceanfront property in Suna you'd like to sell me too, right?" he rolled his eyes at the ROOT member.

Sai stared at him with his usual blank look. "There isn't any oceanfront property in-"

"I know, Sai. I was being sarcastic. I'm not some gullible twelve year old anymore," Naruto snapped at Sai.

Sai went back to sketching. "Maybe you should ask Tsunade-sama. You know, be respectful and maybe she will tell you," the dark haired artist said without looking up from is book.

Naruto leaned back and closed his eyes. Maybe he would have a talk with her when he got home.

Hinata woke up in the middle of the night curled up in Naruto's favorite chair. She looked over to her left and saw Ino and Sakura curled up together on the couch. She saw Ino was awake. "Hey," she whispered.

Ino looked up at Hinata and smiled. "Isn't she cute when she's asleep?" she asked. Ino ran her fingers through Sakura's pink hair. Sakura rustled around and made an 'mmm' noise.

Hinata giggled quietly. "If you can move her, you guys can sleep in my room," she said in a stage whisper.
Ino smiled at the dark haired kunoichi. "Thanks. I can totally picture one of us falling on the floor trying to sleep on this together," she laughed as she nipped at Sakura's neck to wake her. "You don't have to worry, we'll be on our best behavior," she said winking.

Hinata started giggling and couldn't stop. "Seriously, do whatever you want. Sheets can be washed. Just close the door in case Naruto comes home in the middle of the night," she said out of breath from laughing. She pushed the door to her room open and turned on the bedside lamp. She then went down the hall to Naruto's room well, it might as well be hers too these days. She climbed under the blankets and fell asleep clutching Naruto's pillow too her chest.

After sitting, starring and dozing off and on for what seemed like ten hours, (It was really more like four) the storm subsided and then died out. The three ninja trudged out into the sixteen inches of snow. Shikamaru groaned, "Do you guys know how much I hate snow? I don't even watch movies with snow in them, I hate it that much."

Sai looked at the lazy nin. "We are only about four hours away from Konoha. Taking the snow into consideration it should only take us about-"

"The longer we stand here talking about how long it's going to take is more time that it's going to take, seriously guys," Naruto bitched.

Shikamaru and Sai stopped arguing and turned to looked at the hyper chunin. Shikamaru tilted his head to the side. "I think I am now dumber for having heard that last statement."

"Hn," Sai nodded in agreement.

Naruto glared at them. "Ha ha. Let's just get the fuck out of here."
****

Naruto was never gladder to see the Konoha gates. The team damn near fell through the gates and they almost cried tears of joy when they saw the streets being cleared of snow. The miserable looking chunin at the gate told them to report to the Godaime later in the day. Naruto looked at the other two nin and waved before heading in the opposite direction to his house. It was about 5am and he wanted to go home, get out of his wet clothes and take a hot shower. His street hadn't been cleared yet. He groaned as he walked through the knee deep snow to his front door. He stomped the snow off of his boots and opened the front door. He kicked his boots off at the door and went into the kitchen. He read the note on the counter: 'Ino and Sakura are in my room, I'm in your room. -Love, Nata.' He made some instant ramen and sat at the table to eat. He finished the ramen and went to lock the front door. He looked at the floor and saw a red and white envelope. He pushed the door open and pulled the letter off of the floor. The writing on the front was smeared by the snow and wetness. He couldn't tell who it was for, but he did know it was from the Hokage's office. He pulled the card out of the envelope and started to read.

Hinata woke as the scream tore from her throat. She put her hand on her chest as if to calm her racing heart. She took a deep breath and sat up. She looked over at the clock, 6:30am. She got up and ran her shaking fingers through her hair. She was pissed the nightmares were starting again. She heard footsteps running down the hall and she froze; her eyes frantically darted around the room looking for a weapon. She cursed to herself; she'd left her weapons pouch in the bathroom down the hall. She prepared herself to counter an attack. Suddenly it dawned on her that she did have guests and they probably were startled by her scream. She took another deep breath as the footsteps came to the door and stopped. The door slid open and she sank to the floor in tears.

Naruto ran over to where Hinata was sitting on the floor. He pulled her into his arms and held her. "Hey...What's wrong? You look like you saw a ghost," he whispered kissing her forehead.

"I had a fucking nightmare and then I got scared when I heard footsteps. Because I forgot Ino and Sakura were here and I didn't know you were home. Kami, I missed you," she said wrapping her arms around him.

Naruto chuckled and brushed his lips against hers. "They left about 5:45. I have you all to myself," he growled against her mouth. He slid his tongue past her lips and slid his hand under her shirt. He let his hand rest on her flat navel let his fingers toy with the waistband of her shorts. He pulled her down into his lap so she was straddling him. "What do you want for your birthday?" he asked her nipping at her neck.

She gasped and ground her hips. Smiling down at him, she licked her lips. "You," she purred as she pulled his shirt off of him. She sprinkled kisses along his jaw and down his neck. Her lips curved into a grin when he moaned and shivered. She bit at his neck and ran her fingernails down his back lightly, making him gasp. "I want you...always," she breathed into ear.
