Chapter One Send Someone else To Chase Him

The Kazekage stood a top a steep sand dune watching his students struggle to keep their chakra to their feet and easily climb up the sand dune. Easier said than done. Gaara just smiled as one of them lost her concentration and was engulfed by the sand. She was then pushed out at the base. She got up and glared at her Kazekage-sensei.

"Sensei this isn't fare! You control this heap of sand !” Gaara closed his eyes and smirked before opening them again to look at his student.

“Yukio, you must learn how to do this. Besides, there are no steep dunes here so I created my own” Gaara’s smirked widened into a smile as he heard a frustrated yell come from Yukio. He then saw her kick the sand dune. Gaara winced when he remembered to tell his team that his sand was sensitive and will struck against his better judgment because when Yukio kicked it, the sand shot back and smacked her across the face. There was a heavy awkward silence before the weight of the situation hit Gaara. His smile broadened and his shoulders shook with the effort of trying not to laugh. Rengen and Argen, twins, collapsed to the floor laughing. Yukio on the other hand stood there with a deep blush on her face. She should have been laughing with her teammates. She should be enjoying the moment. She should be joining in on the merriment. Instead Yukio clenched her fists. Silent tears flowing down her face. The sounds of sobs being choked back silenced the laughing. Rengen and Argen stared at Yukio. Worry was written all over their faces and concern for their teammate and longtime friend could be felt radiating off of them. Gaara tensed as he felt a chakra spike. He knew what was happening and he did not want Rengen and Argen to see why the villagers hated Yukio so much but the chakra spike quickly vanished as fast as it came. The choked back sobs now became audible and the concern for Yukio grew.
Yukio had never felt so embarrassed in her entire life. She felt ashamed and disgraced as well as a failure. She felt like a huge failure. Letting the tears and sobs flow out Yukio turned on her heels and headed for the village. She ran as fast as she could. She knew her sensei was running after her. She knew that in the next few seconds he would by her side. Yukio did not care. She wanted to be alone and she would tell him just that. Passing the training ground gates Yukio turned down a street that lead to the outskirts of town.
Gaara ran after Yukio. He was quickly gaining ground. He saw Yukio pass the training ground gates and decided to gain speed. Rengen and Argen were far behind him but they saw the glow of chakra around their sensei’s feet and the realization that the excise the were doing started to make sense. Gaara turned down the same street Yukio went down just in time to grab her wrist. Yukio stopped and stood there for a few moments. Gaara felt the chakra spike again. Her emotions were out of control again and she was slipping on the control of one of her special abilities. Gaara channeled his chakra through Yukio’s canceling out the sudden chakra spike. Yukio then collapsed to the ground for a few moments before getting back up. Gaara’s grip on her wrist slackened a bit. He knew that she wanted to be alone. Yukio turned her head to look at her sensei before yanking her wrist from his hand and running off again. Rengen and Argen were about to continue running after Yukio but Gaara stopped them by grabbing the collars of their shirts. Glancing at their faces Gaara frowned.

“You should know by now.”

“But sensei….” Rengen and Argen started at once

“Don’t even. Training is over for today. Go home. Don’t worry about Yukio. I’ll get her after she has calmed down a bit”

“Alright” was the unison answer Gaara got before the twin brothers raced down the street in the opposite direction Yukio ran.

“I wonder if I am still going to be still sane after training these three.” Pushing the thought out of his mind Gaara headed the way Yukio ran but he took his time. “She needs a bit more time.” Was all he said before falling into silence.

Yukio sat in a dark corner of the basement of the house she lived in with her sensei and his siblings. The basement was filled with bookshelves that turned the basement into a literal maze. Scrolls and books overflowed from each shelf. Thick layers of dust covered, scrolls, books, shelves, floor, and air. Yukio knew her way around the dark room and had no trouble finding her usual hiding place. Dusty lanterns were scattered around the room to provide accurate light when lit. Yukio did not need that and neither did Gaara. He could feel the disturbed dust but he also felt Yukio’s presence. Yukio was thinking back to the day she first met Gaara. For some reason that day just stuck in her head no matter how young she was at that time. She never forgot.

****Beautiful Flashback ^_^ ****

Yukio never knew if she had a family or not. All she knew was that she was an orphan and that every time the Kazekage would come back to the village from a mission the villagers would hide her like she was some infectious disease that would kill their precious Kazekage. At that time Yukio hated the Kazekage. Even thought she never met the Kazekage, the big deal the villagers made and the trouble they would go through to get her away from his line of vision just made Yukio that upset at him. She always thought that the Kazekage had dubbed her infectious disease or something. Then again she never met the Kazekage and would never know what he really was like. She often would escape from the hiding place they shoved her in to get a glimpse of the Kazekage but she was always caught and thrown against a wall in some random alleyway and would be beaten. She felt that the Kazekage was trying to find out what was going on the random alleyway but it seemed the villagers would avert his attention somewhere else. Yukio gave up after her eighth attempt at seeing the Kazekage and that time she was nearly beaten to death. Death would have come if the Kazekage had not went back that night to see what was so interesting in the alley that day.
Yukio could feel eyes burning holes into her. She prayed to whatever god that it was not a drunk patron so she would be spared another beating. To her relief it was not another drunk, but the Kazekage himself. At that time and place Yukio did not know that but what she did know was that the man that picked her up was kind and gentle. All she knew was that the man was warm and she felt safe. That night she lost consciousness in the warm embrace of the man. She awoke the next day in a bed. She was confused as to where she was until a deep rich voice answered her unasked questions.

“You are at the Kazekage quarters. I found you last night in an alley way. Can you tell me your name and what happened to you?” Yukio looked at the man who was talking. He had flaming red hair and light green eyes. He wore a maroon high neck shirt that ended at his knees and looked like it zipped from the neck to the side with a brownish vest and black pants that had three gold looking rings, two on one leg and one on the other. Yukio looked at Gaara straight in the eyes before answering.

“My name is Akamata Yukio. I was trying to see the Kazekage for the first time but every time I try I am beaten.” Gaara stared at the girl blankly. He took note of everything that he could see wrong with her. She had several cuts on her face, a few that were deep. A bruised eye which was swollen. From what Temari had told him last night, the girl had several broken ribs, a fractured wrist, a few bruised ribs, she had a dislocated shoulder until Kankuro set it back again, a few more cuts that seemed to be made by a knife and the cuts looked rather serious. Overall the girl was cover in bruises from head to toe. Gaara looked at her again. Yukio wore what used to be a white blouse but was now stained with blood and teal pants and no shoes. Yukio had long forest green hair that slightly brushed the floor and she had pastel yellow eyes. For a kid she was beautiful. Then there was that matter of her being a Akamata. The villagers had told Gaara that the Akamata clan had been wiped out by the Akatsuki but Gaara always had his doubts. For once his doubts came through because here sat the only Akamata heir. The Akamata’s had cared for Gaara when he was growing up and he always wanted to thank them for all they have down but now ha can’t. Things were now different and the only way he could think of repaying the Akamata clan was to take care of Yukio. At this point Yukio was curious as to who the man that saved her from dying in the alley was and could not help but ask.

“Excuse me…I was wondering who you were.” Yukio blushed a bit out of shyness. Gaara smiled and thought ’Yup she’s a Akamata alright. She’s got the heavy shyness of an Akamata’ Staring straight into Yukio’s eyes Gaara answered

“I am Gaara of the Desert. I am the Kazekage. I am sorry that I have not done something earlier but the villager insisted that it was nothing to worry, but I worried anyway.” Yukio stared at Gaara in astonishment. She had heard of Gaara of the Desert. He was one of the team members from the Mirage Team that was sent to Konoha to participate in the Chuunin Exams. So he was the Kazekage. Yukio smiled and tried to get up but winced in slight pain. She was used to it but every now and then it hurt like hell. Gaara noticed this and placed a hand on her chest pushing her back onto the bed. She saw him frown and it made her sad and she began to cry.

“Yukio? Yukio why are you crying?”

“I made you upset”

“No you didn’t. You made me worry.”

“Worry?” Yukio sniffed and Gaara gave sad smile before grabbing a tissue out of a drawer next to the bed. He gave Yukio the tissue and she began blowing her nose.

“Yes worry. I guess you never had anyone worry over you huh?”

“No” Yukio’s voice cracked a bit as she stared at Gaara with watery eyes and blinked. Gaara chuckled at her cuteness.

“Well then I guess you are going to get used to it”

“Why?”

“Because we’ve adopted you as our own” Yukio nearly jumped at the sound of a soft voice from the doorway. Yukio looked at the door and saw Kankuro and Temari standing there. Temari just smiled as she continued “It means your our new little sister” Yukio smiled when the information sank in. She wanted to give the three of them a hug but could not because of the shooting pain that cut through her thoughts. Kankuro frowned as he saw his new little sister wince but not make a sound.

“Doesn’t that hurt?” He questioned

“I’m used to it. But now and then it hurts a little but not much” Temari stared at Yukio with pain filled eyes. She had seen the villagers act the same towards Gaara when he was growing up. Kankuro just clenched his fists and looked down in anger. Gaara felt his siblings emotions clear enough to give them a glance to leave. Before Temari left Gaara looked at her blankly and she knew he was saying to contact the doctor now that he was back in town. Nodding her head in understanding from the silent request Temari left with Kankuro. Yukio turned from the door to look at Gaara. She could tell he was thinking so she waited till she felt that it was the right time to talk to him.

“Gaara? Gaara can you help me up please. I don’t like laying in bed” Gaara snapped back to reality and smiled at Yukio before answering

“No young one. We have to wait till the doctor gets here to see what the damage that the villagers caused you”

“Oh.” Gaara smiled and leaned forward giving Yukio a light hug in fear of hurting her. Yukio just sighed and nuzzled Gaara’s vest before drifting off to sleep a few minutes later.

**** End Of Beautiful Flashback ^_^ ****

Yukio now sat in the dark with Gaara holding her close. She wanted to prove that she was not weak but she could not even master her own chakra let alone control it. Snuggling closer Yukio cried herself to sleep. When Gaara was sure she was fast and deep in sleep, he picked her up and carried her to her room.

Na ruto sat in a tree watching his genin team battle against the six kage bunshin that were disguised as enemy ninja. His team was progressing well and their teamwork was improving greatly. Naruto was supposed to meet his team for training an hour ago but decided to test out their teamwork instead. So now Naruto hide in a tree, observing his team with interest. They had acknowledged each others strengths and weaknesses and incorporated them into whatever plan they had. Naruto’s team was an interesting team. His team was Team Eight and it consisted of Vaughters Zente from one of the prominent taijutsu (the art of hand-to-hand combat) clans, Sawa Koko who was the sharpest mind in her graduating class and is most prominent in genjutsu (the art of illusion), and Kyoko Higa from the main branch of the Kyoko family who are masters of Ninjutsu (the art of stealth). Yeah you could say Naruto’s team was interesting. The only problem was that all three hated each other and Naruto had mentally pointed out the three different personalities that clashed badly. Zente was quiet and reserved and did not talk much, Koko was easily annoyed and angered but was a lot more relaxing than Zente, and Higa was a happy go lucky girl who liked to joke around but got serious when the time called for it. That lead to problems and memories from Team Seven flashed through Naruto’s mind.
After a few weeks of hearing nothing but bickering Naruto had silenced them and told him of his experiences in his team years ago. His team knew how Sasuke was and saw that he was no different then than he was now. It seemed that little talk worked because now they were working as a team with a few iffy spots here and there but they were doing good.
Kakashi hung upside down on a branch above Naruto watching the team fight against the illusionary enemies. Sighing, Kakashi tilted his head upward a bit to look at his former student. He had changed. A lot.

“You have mastered that jutsu Naruto. Not even the student famous for genjutsu can tell if it is an illusion or not.”

“Thanks. What do you want anyway Kakashi-sensei”

“Naruto I am not your sensei any more.”

“Old habit”

“Oh well. I was sent to get you by Tsunade. She needs to talk to you about a mission.”

“Alright”

“Their getting better”

“The missions?”

“No your team. How did you do it?”

“I told about my experiences with team seven”

“Why?”

“Because they were starting to sound and act like team seven.”

“Naruto…”

“Why does he still hate me?”

“Because my foolish little brother is a moron like that” Naruto and Kakashi were startled by Itachi’s sudden appearance

“What do you want Uchiha” Naruto was getting offensive and he gathered up the chakra he would need to fight the older sharingan user. Itachi just stared dully at Naruto.

“Calm down Uzumaki. I’m here for the Chuunin Exams.”

“Itachi….”

“IsnR 17;t Tsunade waiting for you? You don’t want to end up with the reputation of tardiness like Kakashi do you?” Naruto growled and jumped from the tree. Itachi just smirked as he did the same followed by Kakashi. The last of the bunshin were already destroyed and Naruto’s students were sitting in the floor panting.

“Alright that’s it for training today. Your teamwork is improving greatly. Keep up the good work. You can go home now and rest” His student s nodded their heads and walked off.

“Well at least I can say this about you Naruto. Your sure as hell a better sensei than Kakashi” That was it. Naruto could not take it. Itachi was worse than Sasuke. Spinning on his heel quickly Naruto swung a right hook at Itachi. Connecting his fist with Itachi’s face. Itachi fell to the ground half conscious. Making a few hand signs Naruto vanished in a flurry of leaves.

Naruto appeared in Tsunade’s office. She did not seem at all fazed by Naruto’s entrance. Motioning for him to sit down Naruto did what he was told. Putting down the scroll she was reading Tsunade looked at Naruto before explaining the mission.

“Naruto I need you to go on a retrieval mission.”

“Ok?”

“Sasuke has ran off again and I need you…”

“No”

“Naruto…&# 8221;
“No”

“Why?”

“Beca use I’m done chasing after him. Send some one else”

“But Naruto…”

“Send. Some. One. Else.” Naruto then got up and walked out of Tsunade’s office. He was tired and just fed up with chasing Sasuke all the damn time. He was just tired. Exiting the tower Naruto headed home.
