Author's notes:
Currently, I am in the process of revising this story. Some of the content of this fanfiction has changed and certain events have been rearranged. I have been working on revising the old chapters and creating new ones.

Feedback on this work is desired. Any and all feedback including critical reviews are welcome.

MAIN PAIRING: Neji x Hinata, eventually Sasuke x Hinata

Summary: Hinata's been avoiding Neji lately because of his changing attitude towards her. Could his increasing sexual appetite for her be the result of a frustrated love triangle between he, Rock, and TenTen?

Characters: Hinata, Neji, Sasuke, Naruto, Kiba, Shino, Sakura, Ino, Kakashi, Hanabi, Konohamaru, others

AU Details: The story does not follow the current arc in the official manga. It diverges from the canon events just after the final outcome of the battle between Sasuke and Naruto at the gorge. In this fanfic, Sasuke does not leave the village. Both he and Naruto were knocked unconscious from the blast of their final attacks. Kakashi and the medical team were successful in returning both boys to the village. You can assume that during the three years, Sasuke and Naruto reconciled in many ways with one another. The geography in this story also varies from Kishimoto's Konoha. Additionally, the setting is also different. The ninjas are still attending school at the Academy. You can think of it as being similar to a high school for ninjas modeled closely on the earlier classroom just before the students became genin.

Chapter 1: Object of Twisted Affection

“Have a good day father,” Hinata said as she walked through the large dining room. Her father looked up from his paper and tea. His pale eyes followed her as she approached the sliding screen door.

“It’s early still,” he reminded her sternly. Hinata slowly turned around.

Her father grimaced and pointed to the clock, “I don’t think your cousin and sister are even out of bed yet.”

“I want to go in early and do my schoolwork,” she nervously explained, “I have practice this afternoon.”

“Are you certain that’s all it is?” he asked.

Hinata did not answer. She continued to the door and closed it quietly behind herself.

Once outside in the fresh air, she breathed a sigh of relief and rushed through the koi pond garden area towards the main gate. In the back of her mind, an impending dread swelled inside of her.

“Avoiding me again this morning,” a male voice said. Hinata looked at the porch of the Branch family house and saw Neji watching her in the white garments he wore to sleep.

“Neji nii-san,” she stammered, reaching for the pull on the gate.

“If you’re still mad about the training incident. I’ve told you already that it was nothing,”

“It’s not that. Nothing's wrong, really” she managed, "I have to go.”

“I’ll walk with you then.”

“No,” she shouted, recoiling from him slightly as he rose from the porch. Hinata grabbed her mouth suddenly realizing she had been too harsh and then softly added, “You should get some more rest Neji nii-san.”

“I asked you to wait.” he told her firmly as he drew closer to her.

“You shouldn’t be so afraid of me,” Neji continued, “What happened between us when we were training was an accident. You misunderstood, that’s all.”

Hinata pulled open the gate, “I have to go now.”

“We’ll walk home after school then.” he called after her.

Hinata shook her head, “Kiba’s walking me home. We have practice.”

With that, she stepped outside and pulled the gate closed between them. When she heard Neji saying something else on the other side, she ran quickly down the path without looking back.
The path she took led her down through the woods. She walked more slowly as she got further away from her home.

The beauty of the early morning scenery was quite remarkable. To her right over the hill she could see the ancient wooden gate that marked the road to the village. Beside that gate lay the area where she sometimes liked to train. It was in that place that the latest incident had occurred.

She was training in a mock fight with Neji when….

Hinata squeezed her eyes shut. She didn’t want to remember that. She struggled to block out what had been happening there and braced herself against a tree. The world and all of the sounds within it seemed to fade away as she focused her mind on anything other than the area where she stood. Her mind eventually drifted to an image of Naruto. His handsome face and big grin soon erased all the bad things that had been recently weighing on her mind.

“Hinata,” a familiar voice called from the direction of the village path.

Hinata stiffened. Her body was jolted out of the pleasant reverie by the sudden emergence of another human sound.

“Hello Sensei Gai,” she said, offering him a slight bow. He and his companion drew closer.

"Morning!" Lee beamed, "Aren't you up early! Are you going to be training with us too?”

Before she could answer, Lee squinted in the direction she had come, “Where's Neji?"

“I’m not sure,” she answered nervously, “I left before him.”

“It’s awfully early to be going to school isn't it?” Gai responded.

“I like going early,” Hinata explained.

“Why don't you walk with us,” Lee offered, “It’s not safe for a girl to walk alone in the woods.”

“It is pretty isolated,” Gai remarked glancing around the wooded area, “Your family owns all of this property don’t they?”

“Yes,” Hinata confirmed, “But I’m alright by myself.”

“Please, I’ll walk you to the village,” Rock volunteered, “Is it alright sensei?”

“We have time,” Gai answered, glancing at his watch.

“Really? You don’t have to."

Rock dismissed her reluctance and began heading back down the path towards the village.

“It’s going to be a lovely day,” Lee remarked, gazing at the lake that lie at the base of the valley on the opposite side.

“The three of us should ask sensei to go swimming,” Rock mused.

“You, Neji, and Ten Ten?,” Hinata asked.

Rock nodded, “Things have been a bit rough lately between us. I think it would help us wash away all our problems. Neji’s been…”

Hinata turned away and stared down at the ground.

“I’m sorry. Did I say something wrong.”

“No. It’s nothing” she said but Rock could sense that it was something.

Hinata clenched her two hands together and wrung them nervously. Rock noticed this and patted Hinata on the back, “You could come too. We could have a big party.”

“It looks like we’re here,” Hinata said quickly without making eye contact, “Thank you for the escort.”

Rock smiled and then headed back to rejoin Gai. Hinata entered the village and headed for the school. She paused once in front of the ramen shop where Naruto ate hoping to catch a glimpse of him there. Although the shop was still closed, she held out a little hope that he might somehow still appear. After several moments when he did not, she continued on her way.

In the early morning, she noticed how empty the streets were. In the daytime there were lots of people bustling in and out of the commercial district of Konoha. All that really remained now on the street were a few shop owners setting up their stores so they could open later in the morning. She sighed gently at the tranquility of her surroundings. This would be the second week she was able to enjoy the streets when they were quiet and practically empty.

As Hinata drew closer to the school, she was able to make out two figures waiting there. It seemed odd to her and she felt a bit uneasy about approaching them. She paused and studied the two people from a distance using her Byakugan. To her surprise, she recognized both of them. Without any more hesitation she gathered the nerve to proceed and approached them.

Kiba, who was the first person she recognized, was lying sprawled out across the bench half asleep. Akamaru, his dog, was curled up in a ball on his chest and nuzzling his head against Kiba’s chin. Shino, on the other hand, was sitting wide awake on the ground. He looked up at her as she approached and stood up, brushing the dust off his backside. Hinata noted that both boys were dressed rather lightly because of the warmer weather.

“Shino,” she said in a puzzled voice, “Why are you two waiting here?”

“Because you are here,” he explained, “and the gates do not open until 7”

“Hinata?” Kiba said, stirring from his rest and disturbing Akamaru, “She here yet?”

Shino pointed at Hinata and Kiba shook his head from side to side.

“I didn’t believe it at first. Why would anyone come to school when they could sleep in? You’ve still got hours before class even starts.”

“How did you know I would…” she began, tapping her fingers together nervously.

Shino moved past her and did not answer immediately. He began to walk across the street a short distance before turning to look back at Hinata and Kiba.

“Come with me,” he told them, "We can wait at my home."

Hinata looked at the locked school gate and then nodded, “Alright.”

She followed Shino past two houses before he turned and headed onto the pathway leading towards a medium sized building with lots of open windows. At the side of the house stood a pair of large netlike fences that enclosed some cages. The sound of noisy buzzing filled the air as they walked by.

“Don’t you know it’s dangerous to be out by yourself,” Kiba scolded her, “What if something happened to you. Why isn’t Neji with you? Isn’t he suppose to be looking out for--"

“We’re here.” Shino interrupted, opening the door to the house.

Hinata’s face felt hot. She had wondered how Shino and Kiba knew she would be arriving early and then immediately realized the answer.

“You saw me yesterday,” she said to Shino.

“I noticed you, yes.” he responded, closing the door after Kiba.

“He saw you the day before that and the one before that one too,” Kiba added.

Kiba headed for the couch and flopped down next to Shino’s father who was listening to a program about bugs,

“You’ve been coming earlier and earlier each day.” Shino explained as he pulled over a chair and gestured for her to sit down. “Is there something going on?”

“I haven’t eaten breakfast yet,” Hinata said changing the subject.

“You’re welcome to use the kitchen,” Shino father said, turning to address them “Make whatever you wish.”

Shino followed Hinata into the kitchen. The room was styled after a beehive. The walls were made up of bright and unusual yellows and tans. The cabinets themselves were made of open, hollowed out shelves that resembled the holes in a beehive and the shape of both the stove and fridge were hexagonical. Shino pulled a cord that dangled from the ceiling and pointed upwards.

“The pantry is up here.”

“I don’t think I’ve ever really visited your house,” she told Shino, “You have an …um...interesting kitchen.”

“We’ve lived here for a while. My parents like it because it’s not far from school or the shops."

“It must be nice living so close,” she replied, “It’s quite a walk from my house to the village.”

“You still haven’t answered my question,” Shino said picking up a box of cereal, “Something is upsetting you.”

Hinata dropped a can of mushrooms and it rolled across the pantry and down into the hole leading back to the kitchen.

“I’m sorry,” she said. Her eyes began to well up with tears.

Kiba heard the noise and entered the kitchen. He looked around and then noticed the ladder leading up.

“What’s going on up there?”

“We’re fine,” Shino said, popping his head back through the opening, “May I have that back?”

Kiba bent down to the ground and picked up the mushroom can, “Agh! Oh no,”

“What?” Shino asked.

“The side’s been punctured. The juice is getting all over the floor.”

“Why don't I cook that,” Hinata called down, wiping the tears from her eyes, ”I’ll make us all box lunches.”

Shino merely agreed to her suggestion with a nod.

Hinata smiled and picked out some more ingredients. She selected a box of ramen along with some spices, a bag of rice, and some radishes when she could not locate any pickles.

“A box lunch,” Kiba exclaimed, “Yahoo.”

Kiba took the lunch he had made himself earlier and stuffed it into the back of Shino’s fridge. It was truly fortunate that he didn’t have to eat his own cooking.

“You are making one for me right Hinata?” Kiba repeated again.

“Yes Kiba. You, Shino, and me.”

“Gosh I wanna eat it now,” Kiba said, licking his lips and staring down at the skillets full of food she was making.

“Restrain yourself,” Shino said, stopping Kiba’s chopsticks before they invaded the ramen pot.

Hinata continued cooking. When she finished, she separated the different foods into their compartments and tied the package with some string.

“Here,” Hinata said, presenting the bento lunches to the two boys.

“Thank you,” Shino replied, placing the lunch in his lunch satchel.

“Yahoo!” Kiba cried, treasuring the new box and sneaking a peek under the lid to sample a piece.

Hinata looked at the bee and apple clock hanging on the wall and then picked up her lunch off the table.

“The gate should be open now. Thank you for letting me stay here.”

Shino nodded, ”Come here instead if you go to school again early tomorrow.”

Hinata smiled weakly and nodded, unsure of whether she would be bold enough to take Shino up on his offer the next day.

“I mean it,” Shino said firmly, ”You are welcome any time.”

******************

Hinata went back to the school and passed through the gates alone. Inside the courtyard she saw Sasuke sitting quietly alone on the swing set. He looked up at her for a moment and then stared off in the opposite direction as though he were waiting for someone.

“Good morning Sasuke” she politely greeted. She headed towards the building when he did not answer. Sasuke turned back to face the gate after she disappeared inside. Hinata frowned and climbed the stairs that led to her classroom.

Sasuke’s coldness reminded her of Neji’s but even Sasuke did not frighten her as much as her cousin had. Neji had been acting strange and she couldn’t forgive his recent treatment of her so easily. What he had started to do was not the 'nothing' he claimed. Although he told her she had misunderstood, she wasn’t sure she could mistake what Neji was really trying to do.

At least inside the school building she felt safe. If she was there, nothing bad would happen. Hinata walked up the aisle in the bleachers and took her seat. As long as she avoided Neji, she thought his misbehavior would eventually pass.

"He'll start acting like his old self around me." Hinata reassured herself but his voice began to creep into her mind.

"What happened between us when we were training was an accident."

"An accident?" she asked herself silently.

Had she misunderstood? Could that really have been an accident?

Hinata shook her head in an effort to clear her mind. She couldn't think about that again. Not now. The entire situation made her pulse race. She had to keep blocking it out.

Neji appeared well aware of her current strategy. He knew she was avoiding him and had to understand the real reason why. Still she worried because her change in behavior was probably becoming obvious to her father and perhaps even to her friends.

Shino, she realized, was deliberately waiting for her at the gate. It was almost like a peer confrontation about her odd behavior. Shino brought Kiba along but he was there because he knew something was wrong and he wanted to know what.

“If only he didn’t live so close by,” she kept thinking to herself. “Then it would only be an entirely family matter. How could I ever tell you the truth Shino-kun if I can’t even find the words anymore to explain it to myself.”

“Good morning,”

She looked up as she heard Iruka’s cheerful voice echo up into the bleachers, “You’re here early again Hinata. You too Sasuke.”

“Sasuke?” Hinata asked in a puzzled tone, “When did he..?”

Sasuke threw up his hand from his usual seat behind Hinata. She blushed with embarrassment. She was a ninja and yet failed to even notice his arrival.

“H-hello again,” she stammered, waving at Sasuke once more.

“Hi.” Sasuke answered quickly with a grin, “How’s it going?” Hinata noted that his disposition seemed much brighter than it had been when she first saw him. He opened his textbook and began moving his eyes across the page. It was obvious, however, that he wasn't really reading at all but watching her.

“It’s…a nice day,” she replied awkwardly.

Sasuke glanced over at the open window, “Yeah.”

Hinata tapped her index fingers against the top of her desk and then quietly began looking around the room. Why was he suddenly paying so much attention to her?

“Aren’t you going to do your homework?” he asked abruptly.

“Oh...um…yes…” she answered and opened her desk.

“Let’s see..” she thought aloud, “ Um…I think I did this one..”

She set a book on the seat beside her. “This one too.”

“Why don’t you work on…um…that one.” Sasuke said, pointing to her Ninja math book.

“This one?” Hinata asked.

“That’s the one,” he said slapping the top of his desk excitedly, “That’s the one.”

“But…I think I already...,” she said opening the book.

“Yes, I already have,” she replied holding up the answer sheet.

“Lemme see,” Sasuke cried, nearly jumping into her seat.

“Looking good, looking good,” he said loudly, copying all of her hard work down on to his paper.

The door Iruka had closed before leaving now reopened and a person entered.

“Naruto, what the hell do you think you’re doing?!”

Hinata looked down to see the real Sasuke standing at the doorway to the classroom.

“Naruto-kun.” Hinata cried, blushing fiercely.

A cloud of smoke appeared and Sasuke’s form vanished.. Naruto now was sitting beside her copying her answer sheet.

“I didn’t think you’d let me cheat but I thought since all the girls like Sasuke maybe..” he babbled, scratching the back of his head with one hand.

“So this is why you asked me to come before class,” Sasuke complained, “You ass.”

“Please, I don’t mind. Copy it,” Hinata said, offering her entire notebook to Naruto.

Naruto grinned from ear to ear, “Okay.”

Sasuke stalked up towards them both and tore the notebook out of Naruto’s hands. He threw it back at Hinata.

“You shouldn’t ever let this guy copy your homework.”

“Oh hey, c’mon,” Naruto protested.

“You can’t ever be the Hokage if you’re too lazy to do your own work.”

“But you must admit I’m clever. I set this whole thing up last night,” Naruto bragged, “It came to me in a daydream.”

“If you planned it out yesterday why didn’t you just do the work yourself.”

“I asked you to wait at the swing set because I figured at least one girl had to come in before class so I could ask her for her homework. But because I know they’d give it to you before they’d ever give it to me,” Naruto rambled on, “I pretended to be you so my plan would work and since you were waiting for me, I’d know exactly where you would be at all times. So you see it was really clever wasn’t it Hinata-chan~.”

“So it really doesn’t matter whose homework you copied? ,” Hinata asked heartbrokenly.

“Well I…” Naruto answered uncomfortably, ”You see…”

Sasuke shredded the paper in two. “Doesn’t matter now,” he said.

“Nooo!” Naruto screamed, desperately trying to tape the piece of paper back together, “That’s not fair Sasuke.”

Sasuke walked behind them and took his seat above Hinata. Hinata studied Naruto as he frantically tried to fix the answer sheet. She giggled a little as he panicked even more. Sadly, all the answers on one side were upside down even after he had put so much effort into taping them up in the first place.

“Why are you screaming?,” Chouji asked as he and Shikamaru entered the classroom.

“Damn it,” Naruto said with a frown, “I’ll have to write it over again.” He headed across the aisle and took his seat beside Chouji.

Hinata looked up at the clock above the chalkboard. It was nearing the time for class to begin and many more students entered the room. Just outside the door, Hinata thought she heard Kiba’s voice. She turned and noticed Kiba and Shino discussing something in the hallway. She realized almost at once that it wasn’t a pleasant conversation because of the tense mood between them. The normally upbeat Kiba wore an expression that matched Shino’s serious one.

Kiba’s mood changed dramatically when Akamaru barked and revealed to him that Hinata was watching them. Kiba offered her a polite wave and their conversation ended.

When Kiba finally appeared beside Hinata, he was full of smiles. He held up the box lunch proudly to show her that he still had it and sat down next to her. Shino settled into the seat on her opposite side.

“Um…” Hinata began reluctantly, “What were you…um…”

Her voice faltered, “Nevermind.”

Shino looked over at her, his eyes were hidden behind the dark frames but his eyebrows indicated a concerned look.

“Neji asked me to deliver this,” he said, holding out a note.

Hinata hesitated. “Neji?”

Shino handed it to Hinata. She stared at it for a moment and then slid it into her pocket. Shino’s gaze remained on her. When she looked back up at him, he turned slowly to face the blackboard. Kiba didn’t even seem to notice. He was too busy telling Ino, who sat in front of them, about the bento lunch Hinata had made for him.

The rest of the lights in the classroom came on. The sound of the door shutting startled Hinata.

“Good morning class.” Iruka began, “Let’s begin our lessons.”

*******************

All that morning, Hinata tried very hard to focus on the sound of Sensei Iruka’s voice. She ignored Kiba whenever he made a comment and could not bring herself to look in Shino’s direction. At lunch time, she asked the two boys if they would let her sit alone. Although Sakura took the seat in front of her to wait for Ino, Hinata felt she had enough privacy to open the note Neji had sent her.

Carefully she unfolded the note, crease by crease, hesitantly anticipating the appearance of black script anywhere on the page. When she arrived at Neji’s words, she took a deep breath and read them slowly.

“Hinata,” the note began, “I won’t walk with you if that’s what you’d like. Please just don’t go off like you have been anymore...”

“He was worried,” she thought to herself after reading the remaining lines.

She closed the letter and folded it up once again. As she placed it inside her desk, a wave of relief sweep through her body. The tone of the letter seemed to express a since concern about her well being and included a brief apology. Despite his behavior, maybe she had been a bit too harsh on him. If Neji promised not to walk her to school, she felt he would honor that promise. He said he would leave her alone if she really wanted to persist in despising him. He had reiterated as he had for the past week or so that it was unfair though to hate him for an accident. Hinata felt a pang of guilt over her own attitude.

Had she really misunderstood that last incident?

Maybe it was an accident like Neji had insisted.

Neji had adamantly claimed it was and her father....

Hinata left her worried train of thought fade into the busy sound of the room around her.

Instead of going back to that upsetting series of events, she began to tune into the daily gossip of her classmates as they ate their lunches. Off to the side, Hinata heard Kiba proudly boasting about his lunch. Shino, like usual, said very little and Naruto, like usual, said a whole lot. It was just about then that Ten Ten, who was a little older and in another class, entered the classroom. Although she was certain that that class’s lunch period ended before their own, Ten Ten still came inside and approached the section Hinata was sitting in.

“You brought it in,” Sakura asked, setting the nail polish she had been playing with back inside Ino’s desk.

Ten Ten removed an object from her bag and placed it on the desk.

“Shhh,” Ten Ten whispered, “Yes, I have it.”

Sakura gestured across the bleachers and Ino quickly came over and sat down.

“This is Cosmos Ninja Woman?” Ino inquired.

“That what it says,” Ten Ten answered, pointing to the title.

“What is Cosmos Ninja Woman?” Hinata asked as she peered down over her desk.

Ino turned around. “A magazine.”

“May I read with you?” she asked nervously.

The three girls looked at Hinata

“I guess so.” Sakura finally replied.

“Sakura,” Ino protested.

“But you can’t tell anyone.”

“I’m good at keeping secrets.” Hinata said.

Ino began flipping the pages, “Where’s the section you told us about Ten Ten?”

“Let me see,” Ten Ten said taking the magazine back. She flipped towards the end and opened to a glossy picture page, “Here.”

“How to lose your virginity in 30 days. Five simple ways to seduce the man of your dreams.” Sakura read quietly aloud.

“And it works?” Ino asked.

“Trust me, it work.” Ten Ten responded.

“Virginity?” Hinata asked.

“Virginity,” Ino echoed mockingly, “You don’t know what that is?”

“Um..” Hinata hung her head, “Well, I sort of know…Kinda..”

“A virgin is someone whose never had sex. Y’know, intercourse,” Ten Ten explained, “You three are all virgins.”

“Not for long,” Ino said, studying the picture of the embracing couple under the covers, “I can definitely do this. On the school trip next month, my life is going to change. Sasuke and I..”

“You mean Sasuke and I,” Sakura interrupted, “because there is no way he’s going to touch a pig like you.”

“Blondes are Sasuke’s type or haven’t you noticed,” Ino argued, “ He likes me better than you, big forehead.”

“Ha ha. Keep telling yourself that,” Sakura laughed, “I already talked Sensei Kakashi into letting the team members have adjoining rooms.”

“Hmph. Well while you’re peeping in at him in the shower through your little hand dug peephole, I’ll be seeing the full view live from his bed.”

As the two girls continued bickering, Hinata left her desk and walked down the aisle. She sat down next to Ten Ten and began reading the magazine.

“Step One- Dress to Impress.
You can make or break an encounter depending on what you chose to wear.” the magazine read, “Dress lightly and always remember to be fashionable. Chose well fitting clothes that detail and accent your assets. For more tips, see p38.”

Hinata paused and looked at Ten Ten. She longed to ask her what had been going on between her and Neji but she was unable to find the exact words.

“This is a good magazine,” Ten Ten told her gently, “You can learn a lot of things adults won’t tell you.”

“Is it true that you really had S-E-X with a boy, Ten Ten.” she whispered.

Ten Ten nodded. Hinata wondered if it was with Neji however she couldn’t bring herself to ask for the details. Instead she focused on the picture and then left her mind drift back to her own boy troubles.

“Um Ten Ten,” she began, swirling her finger nervously over the romantic couple in the glossy photograph, “Do you think that...I could…I mean that I would be able to…be like this with…” She looked across the room to where Naruto was having lunch with some of the other boys and Sensei Iruka.

Hinata blushed and shook her head, “Nevermind.”

“If there is a boy you like and he like you back, you could,” Ten Ten explained, “But maybe…”

Ten Ten smiled and closed the book, “Maybe you should wait. Sometimes, people aren’t always ready for this type of thing. It has to be a special kind of love.”

“Between a boyfriend and girlfriend?” Hinata sheepishly asked.

Ten Ten twisted at the new ring on her ring finger. “Even beyond that,” she answered thoughtfully, “Sometimes love doesn’t always conform neatly to titles. Things can just happen with people you don’t expect them to happen with.”

“Ten Ten,” a male voice called from the doorway at the classroom.

“Lee,” Ten Ten said, rising quickly and setting the magazine on the seat.

“Gai-sensei’s been looking for us,” Lee explained.

“Were you worried when I didn’t come right back to class?” she asked, taking Lee’s hand in hers.

“Of course WE were worried, “ Neji cut in coldly as he stepped out of the hall
and into the doorway beside Lee. Hinata’s heart sank into her stomach with a renewed sense of dread.

Ten Ten abruptly let go of Lee’s hand, “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to disappear.”

“We should get going. We’re already late as it is,” Neji remarked looking unhappily at his watch.

Neji stepped in between Rock and Ten Ten and took hold of Ten Ten’s wrist, “C’mon. Let’s go.” Ten Ten nodded.

“Ten Ten,” Hinata called, “Your maga-“

“SHHH!” Ino hissed, pulling Hinata back down into her seat, “ I thought you said you could keep a secret.”

“Oh, sorry,” Hinata answered.

“Ten Ten said we could have this old issue,” Sakura explained, “She went through a lot of trouble to bring it today. If Sensei Kurenai finds out that we have this…”

“This is Sensei Kurenai’s?,” Hinata asked.

“She threw it away,” Ino answered, “but it tells you all sorts of great stuff about how to get a boyfriend and make him stay. That’s how Ten Ten got Neji to start dating her.”

“I’d like a boyfriend,” Hinata confessed, poking her fingers together.

“You Hinata? First you’d have to overcome your shyness,“ Ino told her.

“Lunch time is over. Everyone go back to your seats,” Iruka sensei called.

“I am too shy, aren‘t I?,” Hinata thought nervously, “Even if I told Naruto-kun how I feel…”

“Yo Hinata,” Kiba exclaimed, plopping down in the seat next to hers.

“Oh Kiba,” she said, looking over at him as he opened his desk and pulled out the next textbook, “Did you have a pleasant lunch?”

“The food..” Shino began as he sat down on the other side of her, “was tasty.”

“It was more than tasty. Hinata-chan made it!”

Hinata smiled, “I’m glad you both liked it.”

“That idiot Naruto though,” Kiba complained, “That bastard tried to eat half of it.”

“Naruto-kun did?,” she blushed.

“There was a lot of ramen. It was only natural,” a voice from behind them said.

“Sasuke,” Kiba began as he turned around to look at the raven haired
boy, “Tell Uzumaki not to eat my damn lunch again! Hinata went through a lot of trouble to make it.”

“Tell him yourself,” Sasuke responded, opening his notebook.

“Tell me what?,” Naruto called from across the aisle from his seat between
Sakura and Chouji.

“Don’t eat all of Hinata’s food.”

“Hey!” Iruka called from the front of the class, “I said lunch was over. Everyone take out your textbooks. We’re reading about Advanced Chakra flows today.”

“Can’t we talk about the school trip,” Naruto groaned.

“That’s a month away,” Iruka said, picking up a piece of chalk and approaching the board, “We’ll talk about it when the time comes.”

Ino closed the magazine that was on her lap and opened her notebook. She rolled her eyes and impatiently watched the clock.

Sensei Iruka began teaching his lesson to the students. Hinata glanced over at Naruto but Shino leaned forward while trying to copy the notes from the board and blocked her view.

“On this trip, I should tell Naruto how I really feel about him.” Hinata thought as she sank back against her seat. The seat was comfortable and she found herself sinking more and more against its sturdy support. “I wonder if he will like me back,” she pondered carefully, “Maybe I could bring him a gift. Something that would make him like me.” She continued leaning back, so far back that she now caught a glimpse of Sasuke who was looking down at her. Once her gaze met his, he shifted his glance and looked back at the chalkboard.

“Oi.” Kiba whispered, “Are you alright?”

Hinata looked over at him and sat up. “Yes,” she answered.

Kiba scribbled a note on the side margin of her notebook that read, “I’m not coming to practice tonight.”

“Why not?” she whispered.

“I have detention again,” he scribbled, “ Can you make up an excuse for me so Sensei Kurenai doesn’t get mad?”

“S-sure.” she nodded.

“You have detention again?” Shino asked reading the note Kiba had scribbled.

Kiba nodded and then pointed over at Naruto.

Naruto shot Kiba an annoyed look and then raised his hand, “Sensei Iruka! Kiba’s....”

Iruka continued talking with his back to the class.

“…how the heart chakra can be recharged so a person…”

“SENSEI!”

The door to the classroom flew open and disheveled female student from another classroom entered.

“There’s a fight in one of the classrooms,” the student explained.

“What?” Iruka asked, “Where?” He followed the student into the hall.

“A fight?” Kiba exclaimed, “Cool. Let’s go see.”

“We should stay here,” Shika said calmly, “It’s too troublesome to get involved.”

“I want to see it,” Naruto announced, jumping up from his seat.

Both Kiba and Naruto rushed away from their desks and headed down the bleachers towards the front of the classroom.

“Kiba don’t go,” Hinata blurted out, “You’re going to get in trouble again.”

“But..” Kiba answered reluctantly as he paused at the door.

“Well I’m going,” Naruto said, opening the door and rushing out into the hallway.

Within moments, Iruka returned with Naruto and closed the door.

“Go back to your seats please,” he said, “It’s over.”

“Awww,” Naruto complained, “Gai and Kakashi sensei broke it up.”

“Who was fighting?” Shino asked Kiba as he took his seat.

“Dunno. I couldn’t see anything,” Kiba told him.

“…ji and Rock?” Sakura whispered loudly back to Naruto.

“I saw it. Gai sensei made Rock go downstairs and I think Kakashi sensei was pulling Neji.”

Noticing Naruto was not paying attention, Iruka tapped the board and then said, “Naruto, please summarize the main points for the class.”

“Okay,” Naruto rose from his seat, “Well, Neji and Rock got into it over some…”

“Not that. I mean about what we’ve learned so far concerning Chakra.”

“Neji nii-san was fighting?” Hinata interrupted.

“Him and Rock, yeah.” Naruto reported.

“I see,” she whispered to herself, “This isn’t good at all.”

“Hinata, you don’t look well,” Shino said as he leaned closer to her, “I can take you to the nurse.”

“I’ll be alright,” she said softly, covering her neck with her fingers.

Although she sat through the entire class, Hinata failed to absorb anything that Sensei Iruka had presented. She was too caught up thinking about Neji’s fight to care about anything else. What had been the cause? All she could focus on once more was Neji and the way he had changed recently. The memories that she so strongly tried to repress began returning to her, piece by piece. Every little touch, strange glance, even the words he had said clouded up her mind and demanded to be remembered.

She drew in a deep breath and stared at a blank spot on the wall. Everything she was beginning to fear was coming true. Neji really wasn’t going to remain the boy she remembered from her childhood. He had reverted to the angry and troubled teen from the days they spent preparing for the Chounin Exam. He was becoming increasingly wild and erratic and the answer for at least some of that behavior seemed to lie in his relationship with his teammates.

Neji who was now sixteen had started noticing girls much younger than most of the other boys his age. He had matured quickly and he often became very serious about the relationships he had with them. Of all the females he liked, he admitted that he liked Ten Ten, his teammate, best.

Hinata now recalled the day that Neji announced Ten Ten asked to be his girlfriend. He was very happy when she returned his affection but his happiness was short lived. Something seemed to change almost immediately. Although Hinata had never asked him herself, the rumors at the school claimed that Ten Ten might have secretly liked Rock Lee too and that the two might also have mutual feelings for one another. Neji, although he was her current boyfriend, was becoming more and more like a third wheel. A true lovers triangle had begun to develop.

And now there was a fight.

Hinata wondered if they were fighting about Ten Ten. She noticed the way Neji’s face became angry when he saw Ten Ten take Lee’s hand at lunch time.

Maybe the tension between the three of them helped explain some of the things that had been happening in her own relationship with Neji. Still other questions remained yet unanswered. Neji seemed angry often and when he trained one on one with Hinata, he would always take out all of his frustration and aggression on her. Although she was desperately trying to block it out, the strange words he said to her and the inappropriate touching rushed back to her conscious mind. He would touch her chest, at first claiming it was an accident and then making up some excuse like he want to check her heart rate to see if it was beating properly. He also started to pinch her thighs or pin her down to the ground and sweep her body with his bare hand before letting her back up.

The incident that had frightened her so much and caused her to avoid him almost entirely was the kiss he gave her. That was a kiss that could hardly be misunderstood! It was no accident and definitely not the sort of kiss a boy should give to his first cousin.

The kiss was deep, long, and filled with passion. Hinata touched her neck. He had kissed her there too that evening. A long kiss that left a red blotch on her skin. He would have kissed her more if she did not push him so he lost his balance and slid down the hill.

What hurt her the most was that her own father didn’t believe her. He believed Neji story and accepted Neji's explanation for the incident over hers. Neji claimed Hinata had misunderstood the kiss. That she got the mark on her neck while fighting and hadn’t even realized it. But Hinata knew better although she wanted to deny the reality to herself. She knew that Neji was serious and that what he was doing couldn’t have been an accident or a misunderstanding. Her only protection now was to avoid him. Kiba and Shino wouldn’t understand if she told them. They’d take the news the same way her father had. They’d disbelief her story. They’d probably accept Neji’s view too.

The bell rang and Shino nudged her out of her current train of thought.

“Hinata,” Shino said, “We should head for practice. Sensei Kurenai will be waiting.”

“Of course,” she answered.

“I’ve already spoken with Kiba,” Shino told her, “We will tell Sensei Kurenai the truth.”

“The truth?” Hinata asked.

“About the detention.” Shino clarified. He pushed his glasses up on his nose.

“Oh yes,” she said, placing her notebook into her bag.

Just as she was leaving class, someone ran up to her and placed their hand on her shoulder.

“Ack,” she squeaked, pulling away from the warm hand. She turned around and saw Naruto standing behind her with a wide grin.

“I got an A,” Naruto boasted proudly, “An A. And math is my worst-est subject~!”

“Please..” she said shyly, “Ask me anytime if you….want to copy my
homework.”

Shino looked down at Naruto. His arched eyebrows conveyed the displeasure he seemed to have when he heard the secret behind Naruto’s remarkable A.

“I..uh,” Naruto said uncomfortably under the weight of Shino’s stare, “I should be going. Thanks again.”

Hinata smiled and watched as Naruto ran across the hall and headed down the stairs. Ten Ten was standing near the end of the hall alone. When she looked up at Hinata and Shino as they passed, Hinata noticed Ten Ten's eyes seemed puffy and red. In her hand, she held a wet paper towel that she swabbed against her cheek.

Around this same time, Neji emerged from the bathroom nearby. Hinata could sense he was in a bad mood and she instinctively moved closer to Shino. Neji noticed her but chose not to acknowledge her presence. Shino turned his gaze to Hinata and paid attention as her eyes nervously looked away from her cousin. Shino silently observed her reaction. She was certain he could detect her discomfort however he didn’t ask then for the reason why.

****************

The walk to the meeting spot Sensei Kurenai had established was fairly short. Both she and Shino walked along, side by side, quietly towards their destination. Sensei Kurenai was eagerly waiting for them. She had prepared the training mission in advance and was teeming with anticipation when they finally arrived.

“Where is Kiba?” she asked.

“Kiba-kun…” Hinata began.

“This mission needs all three students,” Kurenai explained, “Where is he?”

“Kiba-kun has…um…,” Hinata repeated nervously.

“Detention,” Shino finished.

“WHAT?!” Kurenai screeched, dropping part of the equipment for her specially designed mission on the ground, “Well now we can’t do it! I needed three people!”

“I’m sorry sensei,” Hinata apologized.

“I guess...,” Kurenai said sullenly, “..we’ll have to wait…til tomorrow.”

“Will there be practice?” Shino asked.

“Um…Well..” Kurenai said hesitantly, “Run one lap and head home for the night. I’m going over to have a talk with Kiba about his behavior. Missing practice cannot be tolerated.”

With that, Sensei Kurenai marched off in the direction of the school.

“It looks like she went to a lot of trouble to finish this,” Hinata noted as she picked through the scattered abundance of ninja stars and training weapons that lie on the ground.

“There is always tomorrow,” Shino answered calmly. He began to walk off from the meeting spot.

“Where are you going?” Hinata asked, “Sensei Kurenai wanted us to run one lap.”

“I’ll run on the way home.” Shino told her.

Hinata nodded, “Oh.”

“Would you like me to..” he began, “Nevermind.”

Shino continued to walk away. Hinata remained in place until she had seen Shino disappear in the distance. Then she walked back towards the path leading out of the village. She paused. “I can’t head home yet,” she thought, “I told father I had to go to practice.” After some thought, she grinned and whispered to herself “I know what I can do.”

Without another moments delay, she veered off on to another path and followed it until she reached the familiar clearing. As she expected, the trio were training once more at their usual meeting spot. Hinata felt a sense of relief and joy. It was rare for her to see the entire practice session of Naruto’s team because her team’s practice took place at the same time. She usually only was able to catch the final ten minutes of the practice and only then if she had hurried. Seeing Naruto in action always brought joy to her heart.

“Don’t get in the way,” Sakura shouted as Naruto tried to grab an item off the ground.

“Time’s almost up,” Kakashi called to them both.

Hinata watched as Sakura and Naruto struggled on against one another. Sasuke, who was sitting in a tree, watched silently from a distance. He turned his head and looked in her direction as if he sensed her presence. Hinata shrank back under the weight of Sasuke’s gaze. She felt overwhelmed by a fear of being discovered and decide to retreat back down the path. She slowly walked back to the place where the paths converged and headed towards her house.

Off in the distance, she heard a fierce pounding sound. As she approached the sound, the person making it stopped.

Hinata froze and felt her body go numb.

“Neji..nii-san..” she whispered under her breath. Neji's eyes fell upon her. Her body felt torn by fright. She wanted to run but could not find the energy in her legs.

“Oh, it’s you,” he said coldly. He returned to pounding the wooden training dummy at the training grounds beside the ancient gate.

“You’re a bit early to be coming back from practice, aren‘t you?,” he remarked.

“You are too,” she answered, “Did Sensei Gai.....”

“He says I’m not in good enough spirits to train,” Neji complained, smacking the dummy even harder, “He doesn’t know what he’s talking about.”

Hinata felt an uncomfortable chill in the air. She decided to slip past him and moved carefully towards the main part of the trail that led to her house.

“We should have a match,” he said, stepping away from the training dummy, “I’m tired of practicing with this wooden doll.”

“I’m exhausted from training already,” Hinata lied, “Maybe some other time.”

Neji grabbed her wrist, “Don’t be in such a hurry. I apologized to you didn’t I?”

“Y-yes,” she breathed.

“Besides,“ Neji said, his pale eyes intently focusing on her body, “You weren’t training at all, were you?”

“I...” Hinata began.

“Don’t be so afraid of me,” he said smoothly, moving in closer.

Hinata tried to put some distance between them.

“I’m not afraid,” she answered, “I...I just don’t want to fight you.”

Neji squeezed her wrist tighter, fending off her attempts to break free.

“Neji-nii-san!” Hinata cried.

“Fight me or I’ll kill you,” he demanded, knocking her to the ground.

Hinata felt a swell of panic fill her body. She stood up and prepared herself for Neji’s attack.

“I won’t fight,” she called back.

Neji picked up his daggers and threw them at her. She rolled across the ground to avoid being struck.

“Why won’t anyone do what I want,” Neji hissed, “You’re just like her. She’s too afraid of me too!”

Neji swung his leg and kicked Hinata in the back as she tried to crawl away.

“She won’t fight me either anymore,” he shouted, “She’s just as afraid of me as you are. Why are you so afraid of me?”

Neji fought her without reserve, violently hitting her until she could take no more.

“Neji stop,” she screamed, “Stop it.”

Neji paused for a moment and then bent over her bruised form.

“Hinata,” Neji whispered in her ear, “Do you yield?”

“Yes,” Hinata bawled, “Yes.”

“It’s time to accept your punishment then.” he whispered, “You lost and now I have to be given some token of victory.”

“Neji nii-san…” Hinata cried, “This isn’t fair.”

“It’s fair enough. A loss is a loss..”

He walked away temporarily and returned to the training dummy. Pounding it over and over again until his hands began to bleed.

Hinata lay there a moment before trying to get up. When she began to stir, Neji returned. Instead of helping her up, he pushed her down and sat on her chest.

“Neji.” Hinata said uncomfortably.

He stared at her a moment with cold eyes.

“She told me no,” he said sullenly.

“Neji...Please let me up.”

“She’ll give herself to him, but not to me anymore,” Neji complained, “I’m her boyfriend!”

“Please get off of me.”

“Shhhhh..” Neji whispered, pressing his lips forcefully to hers.

“NEJI!” she gasped, “Stop it! Don’t…”

Neji ignored her words, applying more pressure to pin her against the ground.

“You lost the match. You owe me this.”

“Stop it,” Hinata sobbed, struggling to free herself, “It hurts.”

Neji loosened his shorts and revealed his eager erection to Hinata.

“I want you to lick it,” he commanded.

“Neji!” Hinata cried, “I don’t want to.”

“Do it or I’ll kill you,” he hissed, pressing her wrist tightly into the ground.

“Do it!!”

Hinata closed her eyes. The moments seemed to go by so much more slowly.

This couldn’t be happening to her!

The awful sensation of her cousin assailing her mouth with his foul organ sickened her. She gagged as Neji forced his cock back inside. Hinata felt paralyzed with fear. It was an effort even to breath because Neji sat on her chest and kept her in a position that demanded cooperation. Tears slithered down her swollen cheeks and fell on to the grassy earth. This was her first true sexual experience and she had always dreamed it would be with Naruto not in some forceful assault from her first cousin. It ended with Neji cumming in her mouth.

Hinata cried hysterically. Neji zipped up his shorts.

“Stop crying,” Neji replied, kicking her in the side, “ You liked it. All girls are the same.”

Hinata vomited.

Neji picked her up and wiped her mouth off with his hand.

“Stop it,” he shouted, slapping the side of her face.

Hinata stifled her sobs by placing her fingers over her mouth.

“We should head home,” Neji told her.

“….” Hinata stared at him with wide eyes.

“I’m going to go on ahead.”

Neji walked a few feet before turning around. He stared at her disheveled and stained clothing. There were bloody cuts on her wrists and white dribble that blanketed the collar of her summer jacket.

“I shouldn’t leave you here like this,” he said solemnly.

He returned to Hinata’s spot. She looked up at him, desperately trying to regain her composure. He bent down and she drew back from him.

“I hate you,” she cried, trying to crawl away from him, “How could you…”

Neji pulled her back against him.

“I-I’m not…a virgin anymore…am I?” she whispered, touching her mouth.

“What are you babbling about.” he answered.

“I wanted it to be Naruto…,” she shifted her gaze, “I didn’t want it to happen like this, with you!”

“Don’t be ridiculous,” he replied coldly, “I haven't done anything that would compromise you. You’re still a virgin.”

He picked her up and carried her down the steep incline in the direction of the lake.

“What we had was hardly sex,” Neji snorted, “You were just a means to an end. An outlet of pleasure in a sea of frustration.”

He smiled and dropped her into the lake.

“No one will be any the wiser if you don’t say anything,” he explained, “ What happened today can be easily be forgotten.”

He bent down and splashed Hinata’s face with the water. “Naruto doesn’t have to know about what has happened between us,” he told her gently, “If you don’t tell anyone, no one will know.”

He put his hand on her chest, “It’s all in here. Only between the two of us.”

“Then Naruto…” Hinata whispered.

“Naruto will never know if you keep it a secret,” Neji said, “If you tell someone, even one person Naruto will find out what kind of girl you’ve been. Kiba, Shino, your father, everyone. Just how do you think they’ll treat you when they find out? It’s the sort of rumor that will ruin your life.”

“No,” Hinata cried, “Please don’t tell Neji.”

“This is our little secret,” Neji responded, “Between just the two of us right?”

“I won’t tell…” Hinata breathed, “I won’t say anything. I’m good at keeping secrets.”

“Then it’s just between us,” Neji finished, “But I kind of enjoyed myself today. We’ll need to keep having matches like this. Just the two of us.”

“I can’t.”

“I see,” Neji said, “Then I guess I’ll just have to find a new training partner.. I’ve always wanted a rematch with Naruto…Perhaps I could...”

“Don’t…” Hinata exclaimed, her face blushing red.

“Then we have an understanding.”

“…”

“Well&# 8230;”

Hinata nodded slowly, “But no more of this. Ever.”

“No more of this,” he told her, “Unless you lose the match of course.”
