Sakura always had the best questions. While in Konoha, she had asked him one. A simple one, honestly, but it had still left him floored.

 

“Lee, how did you ever end up married to the Kazekage?”

 

He did not have an answer, but it seemed that he should have one. It was an important question, after all. Just how did he end up married to Gaara? Considering the start they had, it seemed like an impossible conclusion. Too far fetched to be considered even plausible. And yet, there was a gold band on his finger that symbolized the bond that had somehow come to exist between the two men.

 

There were plenty of answers, describing the youthful energy they shared and the hard work and challenges that both had endured, but how, exactly, had this happened?

 

Lee opened his trusty notebook.

 

How I Married the Kazekage, Gaara of the Desert

 

Step 1. Accidentally kiss him. And survive it.

 

Step 2. Get assigned to Suna.

 

Step 3. Get beat up by his big sister over a minor misunderstanding. It truly was a minor one.

 

Step 4. Show him the picture of the kiss, even if he does not understand it.

 

Step 5. Be accepted as his friend. And show him how to kiss.

 

Step 6. Have a . . . vivid dream about him.

 

Step 7. Save him from rabid fangirls.

 

Step 8. Stand at his side while he fights his personal demons, then watch the stars with him.

 

Step 9. Play tag with his sister. Whether you want to or not.

 

Step 10. Have the Kazekage refuse to return you to the Hokage, completely unbeknownst to you.

 

Step 11. Make out with him while high off of his big brother's magic brownies.

 

Step 12. Feed him power dumplings with your fingers.

 

Step 13. Send him off to get the talk from his big brother, and then deal with the repercussions.

 

Step 14. Get some sage advice from Naruto.

 

Step 15. Show him.

 

Step 16. Fight rogue ninjas with him.

 

Step 17. Discuss your burgeoning sex life with him on the radio. With eavesdroppers.

 

Step 18. Catch the flu and let him care for you, even if it is rather like being smothered.

 

Step 19. Discover a new favorite color.

 

Step 20. Be the unwilling prize in a game of poker.

 

Step 21. Save a student at the chunin exams. Even if it was your own fault.

 

Step 22. Waltz by moonlight.

 

Step 23. Share some caramel and make the promise of a lifetime.

 

Step 24. Fulfill that promise.

 

Step 25. Escape from captivity. Almost.

 

Step 26. Plan a wedding, live through it, and even get engaged yourself.

 

Step 27. Make him laugh.

 

Step 28. Make power dumplings. Or attempt to, anyways.

 

Step 29. Get married.

 

`I should add one more. It feels odd to leave it at such an odd number.' Lee studied the page for a long moment before inspiration struck.

 

Step 30. Live happily ever after.

 

`Perfect.'
