Chapter 3

“Hatake and Haruno-san are still not back yet, Hokage-sama.”

Tsunade looked up with surprise. Kakashi and Sakura had never been on a mission this long. 3 weeks. She understood how long it took to get there and the Snow Country was none too warm, but still. This was worrying. What if something had happened?

“Send out three patrols into the Snow Country. Something might have gone wrong.”

“Yes, Hokage-sama.”

The small man walked softly out of the office.

A small crease appeared between her eyebrows. Someone knocked on the door.

“Come in.”

A broad shouldered young man walked into the room, twirling a senbon in his mouth. Tsunade gave him a piercing stare.

“Shiranui Genma” she said quietly, “Let's play cards.”

Tsunade stared at him. She had won. This was bad, so very, very bad. She had won against the top gambler in Konoha. Something was definitely wrong. Genma poked the cards with his senbon.

“Go and find Kakashi and Sakura.” She said. “Now.”

Genma walked quickly out of the room, not looking back. Tsunade had won against him. He needed to hurry up.

As she gathered up her cards, Tsunade looked out of the window. The people outside were so oblivious to what was going on over the gates of Konoha. She hoped it would remain that way. The village couldn't take much more battering. So many shinobu had died already. They couldn't afford to lose anymore.
