Heh-loh, minna~ Ore wa Dea-Sama,desu!
Tonikaku, kore wa … ano… my first Naruto Fanfiction ever! Hontouni U-Re-Shi yo! I've wanted to write a fic for Naruto for a while now but, it seems that I'm on a writer's block. ^^; .
I owe my inspiration to Lifethane, the NaruHina fic he made (named Lacking Sight) really inspired me to start writing again! Arigatou ne, Lifethane-sama!
So, well before I start the fic, I have a little warning. I'm a yaoi fangirl so this fic will probably turn into a shounen-ai even if I try to prevent it. When that happens, well gomen ne? xD
Anyways, onto the fic!
Disclaimer:
I sadly do not own Naruto, Masashi Kishimoto does.
Summary *note, I really suck at Summaries … Gomen!*
It has been ten years since Naruto defeated Orochimaru with Sasuke's help. The missing-nin, knowing he could not return to Konoha, entrusted Naruto with a young girl named Saruko. This is the story of that young girl, struggling to know who she is, while finding the one who should have all the answers, Sasuke Uchiha.

Prologue : When the Rain falls …
Naruto Uzumaki smiled at the new young genins that had just graduated. All of them happily telling their parents their exploits. The young Hokage's smile then suddenly became sad. He remembered all the years he passed looking at those kids smilling at their families while he sat there, no one there to praise and acknowledge him. Naruto chuckled at those memories, remembering that today, he was no longer alone. The comforting taste of miso ramen was no longer his only companion (although it still provided him much comfort) as he now had the entire village who looked up at him. He smiled again.
“If you continue you smile like that, someones gonna figure your thinking dirty!” said a familiar voice behind the Hokage.
“S-Sakura-Chan!” he gasped, surprised.
“Ah mo! Why'd you still call me “-chan” ?” Sakura replied, pouting.
“Old habit, you're not getting it out of me anytime soon.” He answered, returning to watch the children.
“Is she out yet?”
The 6th Hokage didn't reply, to busy looking into the crowd for the person he's looking for.
“Strange. She should be out by now.” He whispered to himself.
“Looking for me!” cried an innocent voice from above him.
Naruto looked up and came face to face with a young girl, her feet sticking to a tree branch with chakra.
The girl smiled proudly at him while pointing at her new hitai-ite tied around her forehead. When the Hokage smiled back at her, she descended from her perch and continued to smile.
“Congratulations, Saruko-chan!” Naruto said proudly taking the young genin in his arms. “I'm so proud of you!”
Sakura, who had stayed behind Naruto, approached the two. “What was the test?” She asked.
“Bunshin!” the young girl replied.
Naruto flinched. The memory of him failing that test (three times in a row!) still haunted him. Sakura laughed knowing what her longtime friend was talking about. Confused, Saruko regarded her “father” with a interrogating stare.
“I-it's nothing.” He replied with a nervous smile.
“Nothing! Ha! You failed that test three times, baka!” Sakura admitted laughing.
Saruko looked at her guardian, her shock soon turned into confusion. “But, is'nt Kage Bunshin your specialty?” She asked innocently.
“Well, yeah …” Naruto answered, not knowing how to explain it to his so-called adopted daughter.
Since Naruto was having a hard time explaining the new genin, Sakura decided to help him and told Saruko what had happened about 15 years ago between her Dad, Iruka-sensei and Mizuki. The young shinobi listened carefully to the story as the trio walked towards the Hokage Mansion. Naruto, who was walking behind the two, looked at the smiling Saruko from behind. She looks so much like him. He thought.
Sensing Naruto's stare, Saruko turned around. “Otou-san, Nani?” She asked.
“Ah, ie … Nandemonai…”
After giving her father a confused look, Sakura continued her story and a few minutes later, they had arrived at their destination.
“Oi! Saru-Chan!!” cried a voice from behind the trio.
Saruko turned around, hearing her name, and recognized the two boys running at her immediately. Smiling happily she waved at them.
“Natsuo-kun! Seiji-kun!” she greeted. “Konnichiwa!”
Naruto, who had some paperwork to fill, told Saruko to be home by dinner time and entered the building.Nodding to her Dad, Saruko left with her two best friends who wore their hitai-ites proudly.
Natsuo's hitai-ite tied around his head, whilst Seiji's rested around his neck.
“Wanna go somewhere? I found this super cool place yesterday!” Natsuo suggested to his friends.
“Where is it?” Saruko asked.
“I found this pothole around Ichiraku Ramen, it leads to some secret base. But I decided not to go and wait for you two.” The boy answered.
“That's fine, but can we pass by my place first? My mom made some muffins!” Seiji said happily.
The two others nodded and followed their friend to his home.
Ino and Shikamaru lived in a fairly small place, since they were only three. When the trio had arrived, Shikamaru wasn't home and Ino was in the kitchen.
“Seiji! Welcome home!” She greeted. “Oh! Saruko-chan and Natsuo-chan are with you?”
“Hai~ we just came for the muffins.” Seiji replied taking some from the table and putting it in a bag.
“Konnichiwa Ino-san!” Saruko said bowing to her friend's mom.
“Aw~ don't be so formal. Anyways, where are you guys going?” Ino asked.
“I found a secret tunnel near Ichiraku! We're going to investigate it.” Natsuo replied.
Slightly surprised, Ino looked at the three. A secret tunnel? She thought, but deciding that they were old enough to take care of themselves, Ino brushed off her worry.
“Alright then, Iterashai!” She said, waving at the three genins as they left the room.
The 25-year old jounin returned to her cooking. When she finished, something hit her.
“A tunnel near Ichiraku? It can't be…”
Not wanting to take a chance, Ino hurried to the Hokage mansion.
~@~@~@~@~@~@~@~@~@~@~@~@~@~@~@
Back at the Hokage Mansion, Naruto was signing some paperwork when a stressed and out a breath Ino came barging into his office. Ino looked up at her Hokage trying to catch her breath before she could talk. Surprised that she was even there, the young Hokage was about to ask what Ino was doing when three others came into his office. The first was Sakura, who had a pile of papers in her hands, and the other two was Kiba and Hinata.
Rokudaime Hokage suddenly became very glad that they were there, paperwork can be so boring sometimes (actually all the time). Then, trying to take on a serious face (and failed), Naruto asked the group what they were doing there. Sakura replied that she was bringing more paperwork (to the Hokage's despair), whilst Kiba, Hinata and Ino had something important to say.
“Natsuo told us he had found a tunnel near Ichiraku yesterday and that he was going there today with Seiji and Saruko.” Kiba announced.
“Eto … Naruto-Sama … You told us to warn you if ever someone approached the tunnel so …” Hinata continued (It seemed through the years she still hasn't gotten rid of her shyness).
The Hokage wasn't listening. He had stopped listening after Kiba had said the word “Ichiraku”, knowing what it meant (No … Not Ramen…) . The young man's face became suddenly distressed, but he kept his calm, knowing that his longtime friends will have questions for him on that subject.
“Naruto, why exactly don't you want Saruko approaching that tunnel?” Sakura asked leaving that pile of papers beside his desk. “Is it any danger?”
“I guess … I'm going to have to say everything now …” The Hokage replied grimly.
Naruto turned to face the window behind him, hiding his face to his comrades, not wanting them to see him sad. The four behind him waited patiently for him to start his tale.
“As you all know, Saruko's been entrusted to me when Sasuke disappeared.” He started turning around to face his friends.
“Yes, but, she wasn't there when we came to get you …” Kiba noted remembering that day.
“That' right.” Naruto replied.
Rokudaime then stopped, trying to remember exactly what his old friend had told him back then.
“After we defeated Orochimaru …
Sasuke turned to his old friend and rival, his body covered in injuries both fatal and not. Naruto looked at him, he knew that the Uchiha Avenger would not return with him to Konoha. He knew it so well, it hurt.
“Naruto, look … I can't stay long.” He started.
The blond teen mearly nodded.
“You're comrades are coming soon and I'm a missing-nin. If I am caught, I will surely be disposed of.”
“No! You helped me defeat Orochimaru! You've renounced him!” Naruto screamed.
“I'm sorry, but I don't have much time, just listen.”
Naruto acquiesced.
“In Konoha, near Ichiraku Ramen, you will find a snake emblem. If you remove it, it'll lead you to a tunnel. Upon entering, you'll find the Uchiha insignia. Facing it, head left until a fork then head right towards a door.”
Konoha's number one surprising ninja struggled to remember his friend's instructions. Then he looked at him. “What am I going to find there?” He asked.
The Avenger looked at his old rival and smiled. “You'll find out.”
Suddenly, the two of them heard voices shouting Naruto's name. The blond teen turned to his friend, who gave him a sad smile.
“I leave her in your hands, Naruto.”
“I leave her in your hands, Naruto.” The young Hokage said. “Those were the last words he told me.”
Naruto's face took on another sad look. He turned towards the window again.
“That night, I snuck out of the hospital when we got to Konoha. I had to know what Sasuke left for me.”
The Hokage's four friends gulped. They were finally going to know who exactly was, Saruko Uzumaki.
“It didn't take long to find the passage since it was so blatantly obvious, that even I could find it.” Naruto continued.
“I'll bet Sasuke did that on purpose.” Sakura thought, silently laughing at how stupid her old friend was.
“The room through the door was a laboratory. When I walked in, there was huge glass cage in front me, and in it was a little girl sleeping on some white sheets.”
“A cage?” Ino repeated. “What was she doing in there?”
At a moment like this, Sakura would probably say “Well duh Ino! He's about to say it!”, but considering that she wants the answer as much as anyone there, she stayed quiet.
“On the table beside the cage, there was a note and a notebook.” Naruto explained. “ I kept the note.”
The young Hokage opened his drawer and took out a small worn out piece of paper. He blew away some of the dust and handed it to Sakura, who stood in between the other three. Naruto gave her sign to open it, so she did. As soon as she started to read, the Hokage turned to window once again. As if by irony, it had started to rain.
“ Naruto,
If you are reading this then, I am still alive. I'm hiding away somewhere safe where no one can find me until I know I can return to Konoha safely.”
Sakura sighed with relief. He's safe. Then she continued.
“ I know it'll do me no good explaining all this in detail, so I left another notebook with all the details.
(You might want Sakura's help if you want to understand it).”
The four laughed.
“The young girl you have in front of you is Saruko. She is … to put it bluntly an experiment. I created her with the intention of restoring my clan. She is a mix of my genes aswell as someone elses … and whether you wish to let Saruko know this or not, is your choice … but the day that her Sharigan is activated, she will want answers. That day, you will be forced to tell her.
And with that, I leave Saruko in your care Naruto.
Sasuke Uchiha.”
Naruto continued to stare out the window when Sakura had finished. His four friends asking themselves plenty of questions.
“So, Saruko's an Uchiha? But couldn't Sasuke just marry someone and restore his clan that way?” said Ino, confused.
The four Jounins looked at Naruto, who, even though he had his back turned, sensed their inquisitive stares.
“That's what I thought, as well, so … I asked Tsunade-baasama if she knew anything. She said that the Sharigan could only be passed down through women or something like that …” The Hokage explained.
“What's that supposed to mean?” Kiba asked.
“It means that even if Sasuke were to have children, they wouldn't have the Sharigan. The sharigan can only be passed on if the mother has Uchiha blood. Am I right?” concluded Hinata.
“That's right.” Naruto affirmed.
“I still don't understand why you hid this from everyone, though …” pondered a confused Sakura.
“The notebook that was beside the note you just read … It contains all the details on Saruko's creation… and … it's not pretty.” Naruto answered grimly. “We have to hurry there. I don't want Saruko finding that notebook.”

Natsuo, Seiji and Saruko started to run when the rain started to pour down. Deciding to take a break, they went Ichiraku Ramen for a rest. Naruto's favorite place has expanded and now looked like a cozy restaurant. The trio took a table near the exit.
“Ah! Natsuo-kun, Seiji-kun, Saruko-chan! Need anything?” Teuchi, the Ichiraku Ramen cook, greeted from behind the counter.
“Nah, we're just waiting for the rain to calm down.” Natsuo replied.
“May I ask where you guys are going?” Ayame asked the three genins, putting three glasses of water on their table.
“Natsuo said he found a secret passageway near here. We're gonna check it out.” Saruko answered taking a sip of water.
Seiji got up and looked outside, the rain seemed weaker. “Come on, let's go!” He exclaimed.
Natsuo and Saruko got up waving goodbye to Teuchi and Ayame, who looked at each with a concerned face. Naruto had told all those close to him to warn him if anyone approached the tunnel, especially Saruko.
Back outside, Natsuo was staring at the floor looking for the snake emblem, his two friends following him carefully. When the miniature Kiba found it he beckoned his friends to follow him down the manhole. Excited, the two other genins followed him.
The tunnel was very dark and damp. If it weren't for Saruko's ability of making a ball of fire in her hands, the trio would not be able to see where they were going. Before taking another step, Saruko looked around her, investigating her environment for any traps.
“Hey, you two! Look what I found!” Seiji announced pointing at a sign in the wall.
The young Kunoichi approached it with her flame and recognized the emblem immediately.
“This … T-this is the Uchiha insignia!!” She proclaimed amazed.
“Uchiha? Who are they?” Natsuo asked.
“My dad told me that they used to be a very prominent clan.” Seiji answered.
The two boys looked at Saruko, knowing that she would know who they were.
“The Uchihas were exterminated by one of their own. His name was Itachi Uchiha, my dad told me he's in Akatsuki now. He killed everyone in his clan except for his younger brother, Sasuke.” Saruko explained.
“Sasuke … Oh! I remember~ Mom told me he was in Hokage-Sama's original genin team.” Natsuo exclaimed, proud that he actually knew something.
“That's right. But my dad didn't tell me anything else, he looked so sad when he said the name `Sasuke'. I had to go ask Sakura and she only told me that he disappeared.” Saruko continued.
“It seems that everyone seems to take on either sad or loathing face when taking about that Uchiha.” Seiji concluded.
Not listening anymore, Natsuo went on ahead. Looking around the tunnel, amazed.
“Can he get anymore immature?!” Saruko snapped. “Oi Natsuo! Wait up!”
Seiji watched his friend and secret crush run towards his rival. The genin's fist clenched. Damn Natsuo, why does he get more attention from Saruko than I do?
From afar, Natsuo could see his rival's glare. He grinned at him. I'm not going to let you have her Seiji!
Silently fighting each other, Natsuo and Seiji lead the way towards a door, which they struggled to open.
“Damn thing! OPEN!!” Natsuo screamed.
Getting angry, Natsuo took a step back getting into a stance his two friends knew only too well.
“W-wait! Natsuo! You don't have to…” Seiji started.
“Too late now.” Saruko whispered slapping her foreheard in all hopelessness.
“TSUUGA!”
Natsuo turned in a speeding torpedo and forced the door open. Fortunetly, his Tsuuga wasn't as powerful as his Father's, if that were the case, the entire tunnel would cave in. After the road was clear, Seiji and Saruko followed their comrade inside.
“Uwa! It's HUGE!!” Natsuo exclaimed looking around. “Feels like a lab.”
“I wonder what this place was for.” Seiji wondered examining the abandoned lab.
Saruko felt something wrong when she entered. She felt a sort of, familiarity with the place. It intrigue and scared her at the same time. “I…I've been here before …” She murmured.
“EH?! You came here and didn't tell us?” Natsuo screamed, his sensitive ears easily picking up Saruko's words.
“I don't know, I can't remember …” She replied quietly.
The girl looked around and found a glass cage. A wave shock went through her as she looked at the cage. She fell to the ground and stared at her hands. “What on earth happened here?”
“S-saruko-chan! Are you alright?” said a concerned Seiji putting his arms around the frightened girl.
Natsuo didn't have time to reprimand Seiji on his action; he was fairly shocked that Saruko was scared.
Somethings weird …
A film of images went through the young kunoichi's mind, none of them making any sense. She brought her hands to her head and screamed in pain. “M-my h-head …” she whispered difficultly.
Natsuo approached his two friends, but hit a table on the way. A dusty black book fell to the ground.
Seiji got up to take the dusty book and read it.
“T-this … N-no way…”
“Hm? Seiji? What's wrong …?” Natsuo asked taking the book and reading it. “Are? I don't get it …”
Summoning some strength, Saruko got up and took the book from Natsuo. Wanting to further prove his stupidity, she started to read it out loud.
“ Day One:
After stealing some of Orochimaru's research, I've finally found a way to make this happen, with this, I can finally restore my clan.
You see, I've taken his research and found a way to create a human being using my genes as well as someone elses. I've started numerous experiments already and it is already going according to plan, soon, I'll be able to create my heir.”
“Day 10:
Among the four experiments I've made, only one survived.Ironic how the product with HIS genes, is the one that lives. She's already starting to be like him: Stubborn.”
Saruko stopped to breath. Seiji stood up and took the book from his friend, Natsuo watching the scene confused.
“Saruko, it'd be best if you didn't read this …” He said.
“Eh? No way! I started reading it, I'll finish reading it!!” Saruko snapped grabbing the book from her friend.
“NO!”
The two genins fought each other for the book while Natsuo slowly became more and more irritated by his two comrades. “STOP IT!” He screamed punching the two on their cheeks.
Shocked, Seiji dropped the book and brought his hands to his aching cheeks. “Ite …” He whispered.
Luckily, Saruko didn't stay shocked for long; she took the book and opened it to a random page.
“Day 715
The product is living and healty. The operation was a success! But, Orochimaru has learned of her, so I must escape. The snake Sannin is making his way here, and the Konoha troops have started to prepare themselves. If I am found, I will be killed. But at least she will survive. She will carry on and restore my clan. Ah, now that I think about it .. she doesn't have a name yet.”
“Day 723
A team of Jounins and Chuunins have left to defeat Orochimaru. I heard that the Dobe was in that team, awaiting the moment he will fight me again. Little does he know that I've never actually been on that Snake bastard's side. I have also realized that I, myself, am still a Genin. Ironic isn't it?
Right, before I forget … I have decided a name for my heir. She shall be called Saruko. Saruko Uchiha.”
~@~@~@~@~@~@~@~@~@~@~@~@~@
Naruto, Ino, Kiba, Hinata and Sakura headed swiftly for the underground tunnel where Sasuke had dwelled for more than a year. Naruto ran faster, the rain staining his hokage robes, he had to get there before his daughter could make any conclusions.
As the group neared the passageway, they noticed Saruko standing there under the cold rain, staring into the void. A few seconds after, Seiji and Natsuo appeared from the tunnel trying to figure out how to approach their friend.
“SARUKO!” Naruto screamed.
The young kunoichi turned around and faced her so-called father with a blank stare. “O …tou … san?”
“Saruko! Saruko!! Gomen!” The Hokage cried falling to his knees in front of Saruko. “Hontou ni, Gomen!”
“Why are you apologizing? Did you know it too? That I'm nothing but an experiment, an heir of the Uchiha?” She questioned coldly.
“That's not true! You're human Saruko!” Naruto argued. “You …”
The young Hokage didn't have time for another word; Saruko stared at him, her face become more sad and confused rather than angry.
“Sa … ruko?” He whispered.
“Ne … Otou-san?” The young girl started. “Who … exactly am I? Or should I say … What am I?”
Saruko looked sadly at her father as tears started to spill from her eyes the rain falling on her dark raven hair. Naruto didn't know how to answer and that has response enough for Saruko. She wipped away her tears and looked at the Hokage seriously.
“I'm leaving.”

AN: … Eto … I hope you guys like it so far … The story came to me in a dream so it was hard filling in the blanks. Dreams are hard to remember ^^;. Anyways, I'm hoping to get at least one review. That's not a lot, ne?
The more reviews I get though … the more motivated I'll be! Oh and while I'm at it! If you want to read A REALLY GOOD FIC (not like my mediocre high school writing … not surprising since Im still in high school) go read Lacking Sight by Lifethane! It's a beautiful fic! Really!
