PART 2
*******

It felt like any other ordinary morning, but somehow Jiraiya could sense that it wasn't. Something was amiss. He didn't exactly know what it was when he slowly rubbed his eyes and yawned so wide that his chin made a cracking sound. He stretched as the world was finally clearing from the slumber of sleep.

He turned slightly to reach for Orochimaru, but found only an empty bed. He sat up to the bed, calling his name to the darkness of the apartment only to be met with silence. A little flame of panic grew inside him. Somehow he knew that this was not just an ordinary morning when Orochimaru suddenly decided to disappear for a while.

He reached for the doors of the closets but could not open them. He stared in front of him to the wooden doors. `What if… if he is gone, what will I do…'
He opened the doors slowly and stared at the chaos of Orochimaru's wardrobe, chuckling lightly. But there was no relief in his voice, he was filled with terror. He grabbed a yukata from a armchair and ran to the garden behind the house.

This was a place he could often find his lover in the mornings, deep in his thoughts, sitting under the shadow of the huge sakuratrees. But he was not there. He ran to the hallway and searched for his shoes that were gone. He grimaced thinking about Orochimaru's look if he would suddenly come back and find him running around in panic.

He sat to the sofa and leaned his head into his hands, his mind racing. Then he stood up slowly, his gaze glued to the bedroom door. He returned to the bedroom and forced open the little closet at the back of the small room. All his weapons were gone, every single one of them. He never took all of them with him, unless he… didn't mean to come back.

Jiraya fell to his knees and let out a suffocated little voice.

He ran after him. He could see him and finally reached him. Orochimaru was empty, his eyes distant and cold. Jiraya could feel his heart racing and then stopping. Orochimaru attacked him, using his dirtiest moves to win him, attacking him with his snakes and all his weapons, meaning clearly to kill.

He was left behind beaten and broken. His heart was in dozens of pieces. When Tsunade and Sarutobi found him, he was staring ahead with blank eyes and reacted to nothing they said or did. He was dragged back home.

The next weeks and months were an agony. Waiting for him to come back with no hope and being afraid and so sure that he never would. And he never did. Tsunade and his old student, the young 4th Hokage, Yondaime, filled Jirayas days with little assignments to keep him busy, but nothing could fill his nights as he returned to the empty house alone, desperately missing the one he knew he could never have.

He had known this would happen. Orochimaru himself had warned him more than a dozed times that one day he would go and only misery would follow. But he had not believed, he had clung to that last little hope that he had turned his head, that his love was enough for him and he had forgotten his plans.

The next time he heard of Orochimaru, was in a letter from the Hidden Village of Sound. He could not believe what he was reading. Orochimaru was declared as an enemy and the biggest threat to the village of Konoha.

He locked himself into his house, not seeing even Tsunade who came to bring him food every day. He became a hermit, isolating himself from the world and from all around him to dwell in the darkness and loneliness and fill his days and nights with dreams that never came true.

Slowly he froze his heart to everything and started his new empty life, drowning into sake and into the soft bosoms of countless women.
He soon had a reputation of a powerful hermit ninja. He was said to love women, and he did, as with them he could forget his broken heart for a little moment at a time. But never did he love any woman like he had loved Orochimaru, the one who destroyed him.

Years later they met. As enemies, fighting against each other they clashed into a furious fight that ended in blood and misery. For a brief moment he had touched that skin, the pale skin he used to worship and adore. And all of it came back to him. Enraged by the distant memories he could never forget, he chased down Orochimaru as he fled the hatred of Konoha into his hidden bunkers.

Before he could get there, Jiraya had reaching him. Orochimaru let his servants beat him bloody before going to see him and they met in silence, in a forest, dark as Orochimaru's heart, and finally Jiraya realized that he had lost him completely.

He was silent as the pale man looked down on his battered form and sneered. “Why did you come after me?”
He didn't reply. Orochimaru was so full of rage as he dropped to his knees in front of him. “Did you really think that it would be enough for me to be your whore for the rest of my life?”
Jiraya slapped him and Orochimaru hit him so hard he lost his consciousness. When he came to, he was alone.

The people around him slowly dragged him back to life once again. The years went by and slowly he sealed all his hurt and pain so deep inside that his outer self seemed almost cured, almost normal. Tsunade could see the hurt and pain in his eyes and could not bear to be around him, who so reminded her of everything that had happened, they seemed to be cursed to live in sorrow, sending their friend and loved ones to an early grave.

He continued living in this show of life, spending his time writing novels filled with sex, drinking more sake than was healthy and inviting every woman who accepted him, into his bed. He never looked another man after Orochimaru, seeing something of him in all of them, never wanting to trust another human again.

Then that little yellow haired pain in the ass stepped into his life and opened his heart slowly. He had never wanted a family, he could not stand the thought of it. His family was long gone and was never going to come back, but this little annoying boy made the thick wall around him melt. He met people and befriended them, starting to even slightly enjoy life from time to time.

Then he was back. He heard news of him every day. He almost destroyed Konoha but did not succeed. They said he lost his arms and hands in the process. Almost right after that his little pupil was struck by such a familiar loss that it made Jiraya ache inside. Naruto lost his best friend to his worst enemy. He promised to teach Naruto and took the boy with him.

Years went by and they continued their fight from afar. Until the battle when Naruto took Sasuke back home and once again he saw a glimpse of him. They said that it would be the end of Orochimaru and soon he disappeared completely from the face of the earth.

Jiraya observed as the two boys become close to each other, their bonding so perfect that nothing would ever get between them and it made him happy to see that his curse was not continuing in Naruto. Soon the young men went after the killer who had destroyed the Uchiha clan and came back victorious. Tsunade, who had returned with new force of life in her, started to tutor the new Hokage in his studies and so Jiraya had no pupil anymore.

He met friends, becoming fond of the couple of ninjas that he spend most of his time with. Iruka and Kakashi were always smiling and gentle, always welcoming him to their company even when he could sense that they would have wanted a little privacy. He was discreet in such time, searching Tsunade or locking himself into his little house and sipping sake, remembering the past with sadness.

The alliance with the Hidden Village of Sand was stronger than ever when they finally decided to swipe the threat of their enemies once and for all. As they hacked their way into the Akatsuki and destroyed them one by one, he heard the first news of Orochimaru in a long time.

The man had left no traces of himself but one man who knew where he was and was carrying his notes to Akatsuki. They captured the man and made him tell all he knew, then grouping a strong company of ninjas and went to search for him.

He was still furious as ever, almost impossible to defeat, but they did it, they had more men and Orochimaru was growing weak. They defeated him, so destroying the last big threat that Konoha had been facing.

Jiraya held the dying man in his arms as he spamsed and shook in pain, his couch bloody and his eyes already fading into the darkness of death. Jiraya's heart that had so long been frozen could not be awakened even with this, he stared at the man with empty eyes.

Orochimaru opened his lips, letting out a deep sigh and then whispering with great pain “Do you remember than night so long ago, when you told me you loved me… do you remember anymore? Jiraya, I have never been so happy in my life. I always… I always loved you.” He grasped his hand and squeezed it as terrible pain surged trough his body and made him whimper.

Jiraya stroke his blood covered black hair and finally something broke inside him, his eyes filling with hot tears that dripped into Orochimaru's pale face. He saw a gentle smile rose onto the mans face and knew that he was leaving. The pain was gone as he looked straight into his soul, binding them together forever.

Jiraya buried his body to a place where it would never be found, taking with him only the earring Orochimaru had always worn. He stared at the vast, empty desert and the little tomb he had buried Orochimaru into and cried so hard his throat hurt and he fell to the ground.

This was what was left of it all. He walked away slowly, leaving his melted heart into the tomb with Orochimaru.

They returned to Konoha as heroes and everyone greeted them as so. Naruto ran to embrace him and he returned the hug will full force, hugging the large, laughing man and feeling his lifeforce giving him new energy. Sasuke looked into his eyes, seeing the pain there and nodded to him with respect, then reaching his hand to drag the excited blonde away.

Other ninjas were all around him, his big family, making him feel a bittersweet happiness he had not felt in so many years. He saw Tsunade walking to him from afar and stood there still, waiting for her. She knew it from the look on his eyes and her eyes filled with tears as he offered the little earring to her. She took his hand and closed the earring into his fist.
“It is yours… take what he has finally given you.”
“And what is that?”
“Something he could never give you while alive. Take his love and treasure it, live, carrying it in your heart.” She whispered and embraced him softly.

He buried his face into his neck but all his tears were spent and he could no longer cry. Soon the others joy and celebration of the victory of the war swept over them, dragging them to the town that was full with happiness and joyful, dancing people who had all lost someone but still went on living.

He joined the party, smiling faintly to friends, looking at all the people he so cared for and clasped the earring tighter into his hand.
