Chapter 4: The Past Haunts You.
Sakura could not help but stare at those two that were stuffing their faces like no tomorrow. Inner Sakura popped up and spoke `Cha- How can those two eat like pigs it's disgusting- Cha!' However that wasn't the only question in her mind. “Excuse me mister Renaz.” With that the chunin choke and almost spat out the mouthful of ramen that he had. “Are you all right?”
After he had gotten his coughing under control he looked over to the pink-haired girl. “Since when did I become a mister?” He spoke to no one in particular.
“Sorry but I was wondering.” Sakura still a little intimidated by the silver-eyed chunin spoke shyly. “You said you were left in the woods after the orphanage incident and I was wondering how did you become a ninja and how did you come to know Kakashi-sensei and Gai-sensei?”
Renaz smiled at the girl albeit a little sadly. “So you want to know more about my past?” The young girl shook her head in confirmation. “Alright but it's kind of long, so I'm going to need more ramen… Gai, are you ok you look kind of pale.”
Gai could do nothing but weep for his poor lost income.

Flashback to seventeen years ago.
I had managed to make my way out of the woods time and time again even though I was lead there more then once each time by a different villager not just the man from the orphanage. I had to live off of scrapes of garbage and carrion that I found in the woods. It got to be so bad that every time I came back, they started to beat me and tell me to never come back or I could expect worse. That lasted for a mouth and it got worse and worse as time went by, but as luck, ever so cruel that it is, would have it a sickness broke out at about that time.
So when I showed up out of the woods once again, who do you think the villagers blamed not the sickness itself or the weather being bad, no it was the plague-baring boy. So when this time when two of them lead me back to the woods they beat me bloody and afterwards nailed me to tree with kunai in my palms. If that wasn't bad enough the other man saw fit to deal a mortal blow to me and rammed a kunai in my stomach. All I could remember of those two were the laughter as they left me pinned to the tree and walked away.
I remained like that for about an hour before I decided that I needed to get loose. I wiggled and squirmed as much as I could, causing me no end to the pain for the already horrible wounds. Eventually they kunai came loose from the tree and I fell to the ground. After I lay there for about ten minutes I knew that I needed to get the kunai out as well or I would die. I went about extracting them from my hands, the removal of the final kunai caused me to pass out and I thought that that was it as blackness took me.
I don't know how long I was out for but I do know it was more than two days. Although my wounds had mostly closed over, I knew my place now and told myself that I would never go back to that place again. I started to watch everyone from a distance and saw different reactions that people had to each other so I thought that maybe what was happening to me was normal. After a few days from waking up from the kunai incident and watching the people, knowing now my place, I no longer found the strength to go on. I somehow knew that if I didn't eat on that day that I would die so I decided to go to the village gate so I could be out of the way.
I saw then that a man was approaching the village and knew if he found me here that he would beat me like everyone else had to I tried to move to get out of his sight before he seen me. As I went to leave the place I was sitting at I fell and didn't have the strength to move any more so I closed my eyes and fell into what I thought was going to be my last sleep.
The next thing I know was, that two people were standing over me one wearing a mask with their hands on my chest and the other one that talking to that one. “You know if it your someone else that requested this I would have turn them down you do know who this is right?” the one in the mask spoke.
“The supposed plague kid right you should know as well as I that that is a superstition.” The one without a mask spoke.
“Sorry but I do I mean just take one look at his eyes there is no way that is normal.” The one with a mask said now seeing that I was awake and took their hands off me.
The man without the mask just shook his head sadly. “My eye isn't normal either so does that mean I carry a sickness around too?”
The masked one was silent for a second before going back to placing their hands on my chest, finally saying something. “Your right if we thought about it we would see what fools we have been.” It was about that time that I was feeling tired again. “I feel so ashamed right now of how we treated this poor boy, but that wont be enough to stop the other villages.” Then the masked one pointed to my shirt. “It's clear that he has been stabbed with a kunai here and on his hands as well.”
“Ya, I can see that.” The man without a mask spoke with sadness in his voice. “And with all the missions that we will be on, we won't be here to protect the kid.”
“Well what are we going to do, Kakashi.” The one with the mask spoke.
The one called Kakashi spoke. “I should be able to house the kid for a few days while I'm here for a few days.” It was at that moment that sleep took over once again.
*************************************************************
“Wow so that's how you know Kakashi.” Ino said which was a first. Apparently the story was not only being listened to be Sakura but by every one.
“That's right.” Renaz spoke with clear voice. “Kakashi was the only one to see that my eyes were not something to be afraid off since it seem that he had his own unusual eye.”
“So what did you do?” It was Lee this time speaking with the same voice as the others eagerness. “Did you live with Kakashi-sensei after that?”
Renaz smiled at that but shook his head. “I wish I could have but no I didn't.” they were all listening intently once again.
*************************************************************
Several days went by and Kakashi was constantly coming and going. When he wasn't though he offered to feed me and talk to me, although it was pretty one side seeing as I didn't to anyone then. I could talk and I wanted to talk to him it was just that my voice didn't seem to want to work. After several days went by Kakashi told me that he was leaving on another mission and that he wouldn't be back for a while he told me that I could stay there while he was gone but I knew that if I did it would cause trouble for him. So late that night after he had been gone for a while I left his apartment and went back to the woods. It was later that night when I came upon the three-discarded kunai that were used to pin me to the tree. I knew that if I was to survive, and I would, that I would need to get food from now on and as such these could help me.
After about nine months of living in the woods and watching the villagers that I noticed something. Some time ago one of the kids that was being picked on in the academy for ninja graduated and after that everyone stopped picking on him and actually looked up to him. I knew it was not just him that all ninja were respected looking back to the day I met Kakashi and the other masked one. That one would not have healed me if not, for the respect that Kakashi commanded. I knew that if I wanted that same respect but would have to be a ninja to get it. So when the day came around to hand out application to be a ninja I obtained one, it was easy considering that my hair was now long enough to cover my eyes. Upon looking at the application I remembered that I could indeed write, and that I must have learned it before I came to the village. The recruiter even handed me a pencil to fill it out with. I almost laughed at that knowing that if he knew who I was then he would freak.
I had managed to fill out most of the form but when I looked it over once again I noticed something, I had not filled out the name. Then I remembered something from my past, I had an older brother once and I remembered his name but not mine. So I took the letters that made up his name and rearranged them to make my name Renaz. I handed the form back to the recruiter and he told me to come back in two weeks for the start of classes.
I could not stop smiling for the whole two weeks that I waited. At the start of classes I washed up in a stream and changed into some of the clothes that Kakashi have given me although a bit small for my since the nine months went by and I grew somewhat. The first day went smooth as not one knew about who I was and it stayed that way for a few weeks until I started to show a vast leap of difference in skill then the other kids, seeing as staying alive everyday in the woods is perfect ninja training. I was placed in one advanced class after another although I was still picked on for my age, small clothes, and unseemly appearance. Them as time came and went the test to become a gennin was upon me. I remembered hating the exam because it was a practical and although there was no one better then me in the class at transformations I could only produce one clone at a time.
When finally the examiners/teachers called me to the exam room, to say that I was nervous would be and understatement, a year of concealing myself all came down to this. They made me do the standard stuff, show my shurikan throwing skills and such, then they asked me to transform into one of the examiners there and I did so, flawlessly might I add, then came the clone jutsu. On my first attempt I failed to make a clone do to the fact that I was nervous, but they gave me another chance and I knew I couldn't fail this or all that hard work was for nothing. So I took a deep breath and started to build my chakra and then made the hand sign. What came out was better than I had expected I produced two clones! I was ecstatic and after I had calmed down they informed me that I had pass and to come and receive my headband. I went and retrieve the headband and they were giving out compliments on the transformation and such, that they didn't see that when I put on the headband that I had moved my hair behind my head and I was smiling. “Thank you gentleman for passing me I hope you enjoyed it.” That got their attention seeing as they had never heard me speak before. They turned to see that it was indeed me that spoke and when they did I opened my eyes to let them know just whom exactly they had let pass. They were so stunned that when I left the exam room they didn't call the next person for about five minutes.
*************************************************************
Everyone was laughing at this even the storyteller Renaz himself. “Wow I bet your teachers had a heart attack when you did that.” Exclaimed Naruto.
Renaz who had managed to get himself somewhat under control spoke on this. “I have no doubt that if they were older they would have.”
Then Kakashi spoke up after being silent for so long. “And here I thought so never spoke to be because you didn't know or was mute until then.”
Renaz's face took on a look of hurt at that comment. “Hey its like I said its not that I didn't want to it was because my tongue would not move when I wanted it to move.”
Kakashi smiled teasingly. “I was just kidding, so anyway get back to your story.”
Renaz nodded his head the request. “Right, more ramen please.”
Gai only groaned again and face-planted into his palms.
*************************************************************
After that, I was assigned to the third squad, which was consisted of the jounin-ranked, Jade Oberan, as well as Momo Oberan, her daughter, and Karena Yuma. Since the academy graduated more girls that year then boys there was an over-abundance and as such certain squads consisted of two girls to one boy mine squad was one of those.
*************************************************************
“Wait don't you mean Oberan-sensei?” Neji spoke concerned with lack of formality when Renaz addressed his sensei. There was a loud bang as Renaz slammed his fist into counter.
“I will never call her sensei.” Renaz spoke through clenched teeth. “A sensei is someone who cares about the well being of their students, they are someone who teaches and guides their students, she did none of those things for me, in fact she went to the opposite extreme trying to get me killed and always neglecting to teach when appropriate.”
Kakashi spoke up then once again. “I remember Oberan, was she one of the last members of her clan to practice chakra armor?”
Renaz spoke in a clear voice devoid of emotion when speaking. “Yes that was her although she wasn't' very good at it.” The chunin grew a smile at that last comment. “At twelve her daughter surpassed her and started to delve into the elemental armor.”
Gai spoke up at that seeming like he had missed something. “I thought she didn't learn that until later.”
Renaz shook his head to disagree with the taijutsu master. “She started to learn it then but could not control it.” It was then that Renaz started to laugh. “For the most part it was a disaster anytime she used it.” Then Renaz grew silent.
After about a minute of silence Renaz preceded on recounting his story.
*************************************************************
All it took was one look into my eyes and to judge me by her standards. After we passes Oberan's test in which we had to sneak into a specific house and retrieve a specific scroll which, with are combined efforts, we managed to accomplish just in the nick of time. That was kind of a double-edged sword for her seeing as she wanted her daughter to past but me to fail.
“Ok you all passed so lets hear a little about yourselves.” Oberan spoke to all there. “Momo you start.”
Momo like her mother had dark green hair, although hers was cut short and her mothers was long. She also had different color eyes then her as well her mother had sickly looking yellow eyes were she had of almost a purple color. “Hi, my name is Momo Oberan and I want to be an chakra armor master and take the skill to a new level, the elemental armor.”
The mother smiled at her daughter. “Well Momo…” she spoke her voice full of money. “Only the most talented practitioners of our clan were capable of that type of mastery so you'll need to work extra hard to achieve that.” Momo only nodded enthusiastically at the prospect of being an armor master.
“Ok you what is your name.” The eldest Oberan commanded pointing to the blond girl with twin pigtails on each side of head, four in total. The girl however didn't hear a word that was spoke to her seemingly lost in her own world after she listened to what Momo had to say. Momo coughed harshly which had the desired effect of sending the spacey girl back to earth.
“Huh oh I'm so sorry, so sorry.” The blond girl apologized and bowed causing her four pigtails to bounce here and there. After she was done she was told that she was told to introduce herself. “Karena Yuma and I want to make a new fighting style that consists of genjutsu and weapon play.”
“Admirable goal indeed.” The jounin spoke shaking her head with her arms crossed. “Making a unique style will not be as easy as thinking of just the combinations, no that is not a style.” The young girl seemed crushed “You will have make it one whole style with hard work as well as determination.”
Finally she looked over at me with a sneer on her face. “And why are you, six year old, here?”
I stood up as tall as I could and looked her strait in the eyes. “I'll be the strongest.” She seemed taken back for a second then burst out laughing.
“The strongest what?” Oberan shouted between laughing and breathing. “Runt, rodent, or maybe flea.”
I didn't flinch at all at her question and answered it honestly. “Just the strongest ninja, so strong that the Hokage and the sannin will become afraid of me, so strong that I will become the plague that everyone thinks that I am, to go into battle and make everyone think that is what indeed hit those who fell before me.”
*************************************************************
“I bet that shut that hag up.” Naruto shouted to the sky and would have continued shouting if not for a Sakura and Ino Double-team.
“Naruto.” Shouted Sakura right back at the blond-haired gennin as she had him in a headlock. “Don't you have any respect for the dead?”
“Actually she turned bright red as if she drank a lot of hot sauce all at once.” Renaz laughed at the memory.
“You too Renaz?” Sakura asked a little shock at his tone.
Renaz's face became hard at that point. “Only those that earned that respect in life deserve that respect in death.” Then softened as seemed to be thinking about something. “So Orochimaru really killed Sarutobi?” Everyone nodded solemnly. “Damn, something needs to be done about that.”
“So what did the old man do to earn your respect?” Naruto asked remembering Renaz's word at the monument. `It is also reassuring to see none of my close friends on it, that is except for Sarutobi I'll miss him greatly.'
“Well that's part of the story, Naruto.” Kakashi said rubbing the blond-headed ninja. “Renaz didn't that incident happen not to lone after the introductions?”
“Yes indeed.” Renaz spoke mimicking Kakashi's tone.
*************************************************************
Because the noble's of that time had more influence on the polices of the village more then they should have been allowed, as than before I left the village, not to sure about today's status on the nobles. They demeaned a ceremony be held for the new gennin since the was a few of their kids of the noble's that made it, four out of the nine that made it is. So the Hokage, Sarutobi, didn't want too many problems held a ceremony and presided over congratulating all the ninja that made gennin. As well as the teachers who passed us to become gennin and the nobles as well were there. So now that you know that the Hokage was there, it is obvious why a number of Anbu was there as well, including Kakashi.
All was going well in the ceremony until somebody decided to put a kunai in someone's back, no not the Hokage, but someone deemed unworthy to be in the presence of the Hokage. One of the my teachers, one of the one's that I surprised in my graduation, had managed to get behind me since he was suppose to be their no one thought anything about it, that is until he put a kunai right between my shoulders blades. I stood there then that pain hit me and I heard an awful tearing sound, my only saving grace was the fact that the teacher that tried to kill my missed direct contact with my heart. I didn't ever make a sound, I was unable to, as he found a home for his blade and no doubt he would have gotten away with it seeing as the few people who seen my reaction chose to ignore it. The only thing that saved me was my space-case squad mate was day dreaming her face a little my way and saw what had happened and she screamed. The teacher pulled out his weapon with another sickening sound as suction took place and all my muscles seem to drain of energy as he removed it, like a plug in the bathtub. As I fell over I saw two people run in my direction one more then I though would, Kakashi and the Hokage himself.
I lost track of time at that point but to say that I was in the hospital for a determinate amount of time would have been an accurate account. I know that I eventually came to in a white room and in the softest bed that ever existed in my world at that point. Eventually a doctor came to see me, and who would it be at that time Professor Kaid himself, he informed me that this was his last day in the hospital so I wouldn't see him again and that I had been request to get looked over by the Hokage himself.
*************************************************************
“So that is how you knew him I had always wondered about that.” Gai spoke out now finally getting a clue on a mystery that had been bugging him.
Lee just like his teacher had a question for the chunin. “What happened to your assailant?”
Kakashi spoke up knowing better than the chunin. “After Karena screamed both the third Hokage and I ran, me after the teacher and Sarutobi to see if Renaz would live, no one else even ran after him or bothered to help until ordered by the Hokage.”
Lee looked at the jounin instructor “That still does not answer my question Kakashi-sensei.”
“Oh sorry Lee.” Kakashi apologized “After I caught up with him I captured him and took him back to the Lord Hokage, when we got there he made a plea that he was saving the Hokage from falling victim to the disease that the boy carried.” Kakashi shook his head in disbelief. “What people will believe right, well Lord Hokage didn't and he ordered the man executed for attacking a shinobi of the Leaf village without provocation, afterwards he decreed that the boy be given the finest medical treatment.”
Renaz snorted in disgust and Kakashi looked at him a little bewildered. “Don't get me wrong the gesture earned my respect but I was only given medical attention when somebody that could report them was around.”
Kakashi's eye grew wide not believing that the fear of the bow would cause people, even doctors, would disobey a direct order from the Hokage like that. “I never knew that, I always wondered why you left the hospital without the doctors knowing.”
“Without know right.” Renaz said voice dripping with sarcasm. “The doctors saw me gather my things and even opened the doors for me to get out faster.”
Everyone there was speechless never had any them heard of such overt cruelty. Naruto shock his head, that feeling that this guy was just like him returning. Naruto had been picked on since the same age as him but nothing as bad as this. He knew that if it were not for his dream to keep him strong he would have given up long ago, but Renaz's dream was even more of an unobtainable then his own dream.
“Renaz you still haven't told us how you know Gai-sensei.” Ino spoke with a little bit of a whining note in her voice. The day was getting late and it was time to wrap up the story quickly.
*************************************************************
After my wounds have closed I went back to training if that's what it could be called. Anytime that it was time it was for my training it was suddenly time for a break or that was enough for the day. Even my teammates could see her preferential treatment, and whenever someone brought it up she would punish us all, me most of all, claiming that I instigated the questions. Nothing could be said about this however seeing as she was the squad leader and only her word was in the final reports. Sometime later after an extremely grueling mission and some deep wounds, I knew that if I wanted to become stronger it would come only from my hand.
I went to one of the training spots that were seldom used only to find that some one else had claims on it. I was going to leave and find another spot when he noticed me. “You know, the flame of youth burns strongest when it is reaching for a dream.” The man with the flak jacket said with oh so much dramatics. “What dream does your flame reach for?”
Normally I would not even talk to someone but I couldn't ever remember meeting this one. “I won't to be the strongest.” I said to the man surprising myself by talking to him.
The man although still acting over dramatic looked confused. “Why do you want to be the strongest, what do you hope to achieve?”
I was right he must not have met me yet. “Since you don't know me, it doesn't matter.” I started leaving at that point mumbling to myself. “I'll probably get killed by the village before I even turn ten.”
*************************************************************
“That was you wasn't Gai-sensei?” Lee asked with the enthusiasm that seemed to effect him like his teacher.
Gai responded in usual fashion, with thumbs up and a smile accompanied with that mysterious twinkling noise to which nobody could trace. “That's right Lee my boy, after that kid left I couldn't get him out of my mind especially what he mumbled which I heard clearly.”
“I've always wondered if you heard me or not.” Renaz clearly spoke for everyone to hear. “For someone to go out of their way to find someone the met only briefly just seemed a little unnatural.”
“What do you mean Renaz?” It was Sasuke who had been forgotten in the while the story was being told.
“It would be easier to let Gai tell that part of the story seeing as I have no clue on all the details of his search.” Renaz told everyone then took a drink of the water he had, as Might Gai began.
*************************************************************
I didn't go looking for the kid at first, but as the time went by, about two hours, what he said began to gnaw on me curiosity and I went to search for him to find out what he meant when he mumbled. After I got back to the village, I immediately started to ask about the boy that I had seen. People seem to want to help but when I got to the description about his eyes, people then started to talk about the plague-carrying boy and left as soon as they could. This continued for about thirty minutes and ten people, when I finally got the hint about what the boy mumbled. I had often heard about the plague-bearing boy but thought they were a village rumor and superstition. Now it seems that it wasn't I was even more determined to find him. That is when I ran into Kakashi but I didn't have time to challenge him to a friendly contest instead I asked him what he could tell me about the boy I was looking for. However as I asked we both over heard two villagers talking about something in an alleyway with someone in a hushed tone people often take when they are in a conspiracy. “Ya spotted him in the east woods about twenty minutes ago, I nailed him good, a couple in the ribs, and three in the back.” One of the men spoke making the other one laugh. “That will teach him to stay away from the village.” The one who was laughing now spoke up. “I doubt it I hit him about one a month and that does not do anything to keep that plague boy from here.”
As that was said Kakashi rushed in there and beat those two senseless. I was stunned that Kakashi did that and was about to ask him what was going on when rushed out of the alleyway, running in the direction of the woods. I ran after Kakashi and soon caught up to him and asked what was going on.
Kakashi answered me still having anger in his voice but also a hint of worry. “That boy you are looking for is treated like that on a daily basses just because of his eyes.” I couldn't believe it, the mistreatment of another human being all because of his eyes. “All of the villagers believe he carries some kind of disease just because of the metallic feature of his eyes.”
As we were running in the woods looking for the boy, Kakashi came upon spot that looked to have been used for shurikan practice recently. Until told me to look at the ground by the spot where the weapons were lying, I couldn't believe the amount of blood I seen. “This must be where he was hit.” I told my rival but then thought of something. “Kakashi, if he is losing this much blood about thirty minutes ago then he might have already died from blood loss alone not to mention the wounds he suffered.” But Kakashi ignored me and continued the search. We came upon a river by following the blood when we heard something like a splash that boy must have been using it. I was a little surprised to say the least that the boy was alive but when we came in sight of him I got a bigger shock, he's wounds have already stopped bleeding and he had no signs of any previous wounds, no marks, scars or anything.
The boy spun around, drawing a kunai when he heard us but then relaxed as he saw Kakashi. The boy then laughed “You would think that upon becoming a gennin that I could dodge better but…” he said touching the gashes in his side lightly.
“I see your regeneration is getting better.” Kakashi spoke and I realized that was the reason that the kid wasn't dead or that he didn't have any scars or the like.
“Ya it seems to get better and faster the older I get, it also lets me recover faster from exhaustion so I can train longer.” The young boy said without emotion, it was no wonder with that ability and hard work did he became a gennin at such a young age.
“Hey boy is that what you were doing at the training ground earlier?” I spoke knowing that was what he was indeed doing.
“Yes, the villagers are not the only ones who hate me.” The silver-eyed boy said clearly with sadness. “I find that the only one who can help me get stronger is myself, because no one wants to help one who is infected with the disease I have: I'm alive.”
I could only marvel at his determination. “And you will get stronger, because I will help you whenever I can, for I am the `Handsome Devil' of the Leaf village.” Kakashi agreed and mad the same offer only with less flair then yours truly.
The boy was speechless and almost looked like he was going to cry… that is until he said. “When do we start?”
*************************************************************
“That's right yours truly guided Renaz here in the art of taijutsu.” Gai again spoke in usual fashion. “While Kakashi showed him all of the chakra controlling techniques that he knew, while at the same time giving Renaz time for his own training.”
Renaz nodded at the gennin assembled. “That's right and those two are the only people in the world that I would call sensei.” He smiled then, looking into the past once more then he looked at everyone and said. “The training continued for two years on and off until I toke the chunin exam and wiped the floor of the place while my teammates ended up failing, the look on Oberan's face was priceless.”
End of Chapter 4
Well, half of the past of the blood hunter has been revealed but this is all the past you will here for awhile but there will be more in later chapters. For those of you that are wondering more about the connection between Renaz and Naruto, you will have to wait awhile as well for I don't plan to reveal that for some time. This has been the longest chapter yet why because of two reasons. One this all needed to be told at the same time. Two if his sensei didn't teach him then who did those two that's who, why do you think he know taijutsu so well and the chakra controlling techniques (tree climbing and water walking).
What's coming up in the next chapters? Well let's see the Hokage get new that she won't like and will have to make a call will she accept or back out of the call
Well how did everybody like chapter 4, people who liked this will be blessed by any and all things that like me… if only I could remember what or who they were, if any at all. Those who flame me, well who cares about you anyway. Well, R & R or punishment will come quick.
