Chapter 3: It's A Long Way To The Top

 

*BRRRRRRIIIINNNNNNGGGG!!!* rang the alarm clock as Naruto jumped in his bed. “Awwwww, damn alarm clock. I bet this is one of Sasuke teme's tricks. I'll get that bastard for this!” said Naruto.

 

Naruto punched the off button on his alarm nearly breaking it, and jumped of his bed. He headed downstairs to make his daily ramen and to take some headache reliever for the headache the not-so-nice Sasuke had given him by resetting his alarm clock.

 

“Aha, Tylenol!” He took the dose of pills and continued on toward his breakfast. “Now, which flavor shall I have today? Hmmmmmm, I think I'll have pork.”

 

Naruto started the stove and waited 10 minutes for the water to boil and then put in the noodles and flavoring. He then waited 5 minutes to let it cool before taking his chopsticks and slurping up the noodles. “Ahhh, Ramen, you never disappoint me.”

 

Naruto then headed upstairs to use the bathroom and brush his teeth. 5 minutes later he came out and went into his room to change. When he was done, he came out wearing his favorite AC/DC shirt and some baggy jeans. His hair remained constantly spiked so he had no reason to comb it. He also had a spiked leather wristband on one arm and a necklace with the Konoha leaf on it.

 

“I wonder what Shika is doing.” said Naruto as he headed out his door. He headed down several streets stopping on thee way to look around at shops and vendors. One thing caught his eye, the new Linkin Park cd in a music store.

 

“Whoa, I gotta get that!” said Naruto as he entered the store to make his purchase. “Minutes To Midnight” said Naruto as he looked over the cd. “I'll buy it!”

 

 

Naruto made his way to the counter to buy the new cd as another customer left the counter.

 

“This is all sir.” said Naruto.

 

“Ah, the new LP cd. Good choice.” said the store manager Zabuza.

 

Naruto continued to search his wallet for change when he heard a familiar voice behind him.

 

“I wouldn't do that if I were you.” said the voice. Naruto turned around to see is friend Kiba staring him in the face.

 

 

“What do you mean you wouldn't do that if you were me?” said Naruto.

 

“I mean put away your wallet and put the cd back so I can give you your presents.” said Kiba holding up three new cds, one of them the new LP cd. Naruto did as he was told as Zabuza chuckled to himself and grabbed something.

 

“I forgot it was my birthday!!!” said Naruto excitingly.

 

“Haha! I never know what to expect from you Naruto. Here you go, I got you Minutes To Midnight, The Essential Iron Maiden, and Wolfmother's self-titled cd.”

 

“Thanks so much!!” said Naruto grabbing the cds and staring at them.

 

“Wait kid,” said Zabuza, “I got you something too.”

 

Naruto looked with glee as he stared into the live DVD of his favorite band, Iron Maiden. It was Iron Maiden at Dowloadfest, something Naruto always dreamed of seeing or better yet being in.

 

“Thank you so much Zabuza!” said Naruto. “C'mon Kiba, we're going to find Shika and Sasuke!”

 

They left the store and headed down the street toward Shika's favorite spot; The Hill. The Hill was a spot they had known since their childhood, and Shikamaru was the one who found it. It was simply a hill protruding from a clearing in the big forest around Konoha. They loved it because it was so beautiful and Shikamaru loved it because it was a great place to view the clouds.

 

As Naruto and Kiba neared their destination, they found Shikamaru in his usual spot. He was perched on top of the highest point of the hill, lying back with his arms behind his head while watching the clouds.

 

“Shika!” yelled Naruto. He ran toward the lazy shinobi and tackled him, nearly causing them to fall off the hill.

 

“Hn, how troublesome.” said Shikamaru lazily. “What brings you two here today at such an early time of 9:00? Naruto, you normally don't even budge until about 11:00.”

 

“Oh come on Shika, don't you know?” asked Naruto. “C'mon, think about it. What is today? I mean after all you are a genius? Right?”

 

“Today, my friend, is Saturday. The day that I lay around doing nothing like always. Like every other day.” said the oh-so-bored ninja.

 

“Grrr, no! I mean-like, uh what is special about today? C'mon Shika!” whined the fox boy.

 

“-sigh- If you want your present, you'll have to get of off me. You're crushing my lungs with your knees…” said Shikamaru weakly due to the pressure on his chest.

 

“Yes!! I mean uh, sorry…hehe. So…present?!” said Naruto with excitement.

 

“Wait a sec, lemme get it out of my side pocket. Aha, here it is.” said Shikamaru as he pulled out a card with Naruto's name on it.

 

Without hesitation, Naruto snatched up the card with excellent speed and slashed it open with his fingernails like a Kunai through butter. He pulled out its contents and stared with very wide eyes. He was glued to it, and even started to drool.

 

“Ummm…Naru-Naruto? Are you okay? Lemme see it!” said Kiba worriedly. He moved behind Naruto to read it and smiled.

 

“An entire years worth of Ramen free, any flavor. Wow Shika, I think his mind exploded. Good job!” said Kiba sarcastically.

 

Without warning, Naruto jumped on Shikamaru and hugged the life out of him. “Thank you!! Thank you sooooo much!!”

 

“How troublesome…OK, OK. You can let me -cough- live now…” Naruto apologized and let go just as Sasuke and Gaara appeared.

 

“Well look who else showed up.” said Kiba. “C'mon over guys, and show us what you got in those boxes you're carrying!”

 

“Wow, more presents! Thanks you two, all of you guys are awesome. I'm gonna open Gaara's first, but both are so big! Especially Gaara's, it's soooo long!” exclaimed Naruto. He ripped opened the box to reveal a guitar case.

 

“Open it.” said Gaara. “You'll love it.”

 

Naruto opened it to reveal a Gibson Les Paul with sunburst black-to-silver-to-blue fade effect. He stood in awe, not just at the guitar, but at the signature on it.

 

“Ga-Ga-Gaara? Is-is- is this signed b-by who I th-think it i-is? asked a dumbstruck Naruto.

 

“Yep. Signed by Dave Murray, guitarist of Iron Maiden. It was my guitar, I just had it signed and decided to give it to you. Ya know, since Iron Maiden is your favorite.” said Gaara. While Naruto was in awe, Sasuke stepped in to drop his present into Naruto's trembling hands.

 

Naruto was still without words but was able to open up the long present to reveal another great thing. It was a Microphone, complete with a stand and cord.

 

“Oh my god. Oh my god. Oh my god.” said the dumbstruck blonde.

 

“What? What is it? What's wrong with you?” asked Kiba.

 

“IT'S SIGNED BY BRUCE DICKENSON!” screamed Naruto.

 

“Yep, said Sasuke. Sure is, me and Gaara went to the same concert when you were there. Then me and Gaara went out to a music shop to buy stuff and saw the band there in secrecy. We bought the guitar and microphone, and then had them sign it. The rest of the band signed the back of the guitar.”

 

“Thank-th-th-thank y-oh my head….” said Naruto as he fainted.

 

“Whoa,” said Kiba, “I didn't even get to give him the second part of my gift….

 

“SECOND PART?!” yelled Naruto as he leaped up from his short `coma' and ran to Kiba. Kiba handed him a small piece of paper that looked like a ticket.

 

“IRON MAIDEN HERE I COME!!! AGAIN!!!” was what Naruto screamed as he finished reading the description of the ticket.

 

For many more minutes, Naruto thanked everyone and continued to be crazy as ever until all of a sudden he stopped and turned to them.

 

“Ya know, I've been wanting to ask ya'll something….I think now would be a great time.” said Naruto.

 

“Alright then, out with it” said Sasuke.

 

“Yeah, let us hear it.” said Gaara.

 

“Well….let's start a band.”

 

“Wait, wait, wait…WHAT?” said Kiba as all of the other 3 `what?-ed' in unison.

 

“Well…think about it. I mean I sing well according to everyone I talk to, Sasuke and Gaara are both amazing guitarists, Kiba is a dope drummer, and Shikamaru can play bass, guitar, and sing like there's no tomorrow. I think it'll be great!” said an excited Naruto.

 

“Not to mention, Shikamaru still does his solo act every now and then. But think about the time it consumes.” said Gaara.

 

“Oh come on, don't even try that one on me. We have nothing better to do!!!” said Naruto.

 

“He's actually right for once,” said Shikamaru, “being in a band is something I have wanted to do since Shadow, my solo act.”

 

“Yeah, and it'll be really fun!” said Kiba.

 

“What about a name though?” asked Sasuke.

 

“Already got that covered; Rasengan.” said a proud Naruto.

 

“I was thinking something more like Chidori…”

 

“No, Naruto's name sounds great. I'm in.” said Gaara.

 

“Me too.” said Kiba.

 

“Me three.” said Sasuke and Shikamaru in unison.

 

“Er, um..me four then..” said the lazy Shikamaru.

 

“Then let's get to it!”

 

“LONG LIVE RASENGAN!!!” all of them said in unison.
