CHAPTER 1- SAND MEETS RAIN

`That exam was way too easy.' Gaara thought while walking passed a ramen shop in the Konoha village (leaf village). He had passed the second part of the Chuunin exam in less then two hours and his brother and sister only held him back from having his fill of death. `I guess three Gennins was too many for them. Hmph, pathetic.' Gaara's arms hung loosely at his sides swinging each time he took a step. The look on his face remained, showing no emotion and eyes still cold and filled with what some would call evil. Nope, he hadn't changed a bit. He still scared everyone he walked passed and sent even grown men running in fear. He was surprised that Temari and Kankuro haven't run off yet. The gourd he carried around was still filled with sand and the blood of his victims he used in battle. The fact was that he had gotten use to scaring people. After all, he was a frightening ninja. He killed people for the pleasure of killing. He gave mercy to the last ones he killed, though, painless deaths. But he made sure that the last thing they saw was the face of their assassin.

The gate of the leaf village was a few yards away to his right when his sister popped out-of-nowhere with a big smile trying to scare him. `She knows that it won't work so why does she even try.' He thought. She pouted when her younger brother showed no emotion, as usual.

“Oh, I thought I had you this time!” Gaara didn't answer. He only passed her but only got a few inches behind her before he stopped. Temari turned around. She was use to Gaara walking past her but he never really stopped unless he felt a presence. He could sense the faintest presence kilometers away, even if it was a Nin covering their Chakra and would either kill them or chase them away. Really, he even scared her and their brother but they were family so they had to stick together. “Gaara…?” He took the cork out of the gourd. Temari took that as a sign to get out of the way. She walked over to the fence and leaned against it when she felt two very strong Chakra levels coming their way. `That can't be…' Her eyebrows furrowed in concentration. One was just about the same level of Gaara's Chakra, and he had a demon inside him. Temari turned to Gaara. He seemed so relaxed. She looked to her right and saw a girl slide in through the open gate. She seemed to be about Gaara's age and from the distance she was at, seemed to have the rain village sign on the headband that was around her waist. The girl used a kunai to stop sliding by hooking it in the ground, stood up and was probably planning to run past Gaara but he made a wall of sand so she couldn't get past. Now, Temari could study the girl better. She had silver hair up in a twist that was held up by chopsticks, showing her pretty face and beautiful clear green eyes. She was wearing a tight, dark blue shirt that was just above her knees, she was wearing tight shorts beneath that and a loose mesh shirt that only went beneath her medium sized breasts over top of the tight shirt. The shoes and necessities were the same as everyone else's. Just as Temari had predicted, the girl had the rain village symbol on the headband that was around her waist, the metal part resting on her left hip.

Gaara studied the exhausted girl in front of him. She was staring right back at him. Not with fear, nor could he see any sign of thoughts of taking him on in battle. She was pleading in a way. “Let me through.” She said roughly. She was breathing deep but managed to let those three words escape her lips. But Gaara had no intention on letting her past. He just stood there and made the wall bigger. The girl grumbled. “I don't have time for this!” She quickly brought her hands up to her chest and did some signs. The last one neither Gaara nor Temari were familiar with. Her index finger and middle finger were touching the other pair making a pointed bridge. Her thumbs were also connected but they were straight. The rest of her fingers (ring and pinky) were laced together but pointing down. “Rain Jutsu!” Suddenly, a giant, dark gray cloud formed above their heads and started to pour down rain. Heavy enough to melt away the sand wall that stood in the girl's way. Temari looked at the wall with awe.

`That girl is way strong…' She then looked at Gaara and became even more surprised. Her little brother was actually showing the slightest bit of bewilderment. His face didn't show it but his eyes did. No one had been able to do that before.

The rain stopped and the girl was just about to make a brake for it when Gaara snapped out of his daze and grabbed her by the wrist. “Wha- Hey What…” She didn't get to finish her sentence before he through her up against the fence Temari was standing next to and pinned her with heavy sand. She struggled against the force of the sand but she couldn't do anything without her jutsus. “Let me go! I have to see the Hokage! Let me GO!” She continued to struggle and yell making Gaara ticked.

`Gotta shut her up!But… I can't kill her.' He thought about what he could
learn from her. `Hopefully she can fight.' He put his hand over her mouth. She started to scream in his hand and thrash her head around trying to remove his hand from her mouth. Gaara's face got extremely close to hers and the girl got slightly uncomfortable. “Quiet.” He whispered to her. He looked at Temari and she through him a gag. He removed his hand but immediately put the gag in its place. Still holding her wrist, Gaara got some rope and tied her ankles together, releasing the rest of her body from the sand. Then, he ties her wrists and puts her arms around his neck. “She's coming with us.” He picks her up and she starts squirming in his arms as he walks. Somehow, she gets the gag out of her mouth.

“Where do you think you're taking me!?” Temari looked back and rolled her eyes.

`She's gonna make Gaara mad…' She thought about the girl's mangled body on the ground. `What a pleasant sight.' She smirked at the concept of Gaara killing another Gennin. `That might satisfy his craving for blood.' Maybe then Temari would be safe from his wrath. She crossed her arms and closed her eyes. “C'mon girl. There's no way you can beat Gaara in a physical contact battle. There's just no way.” The silver haired girl stopped struggling and looked menacingly at Temari.

“I bet I could beat you little punk!” Temari looked at her in shock. No one has ever talked to her in such a manner. But that's probably because she was Gaara's sister. In truth, that was the reason no one bugged her. Then, she came up with a comeback.

“Pretty big words for someone in… my… little… brother's… arms?” Temari realized that something wasn't right. `My brother? Holding her?!' What the Hell was going on here! Usually Gaara would drag hostages not carry them. Especially not a big mouthed brat like her. Was he getting soft? In a way, Temari liked the sound of that. She would defiantly be safe from his wrath then. She was brought back to the real world when her brother walked past her. She followed right behind him to his small apartment house at the edge of Konoha village.

Gaara had Temari cut the restraints from around the girl's wrists and set her on the bed, not untying the ones around her ankles. Temari left the small apartment like hut and thought about what Gaara was planning to do with the annoying loud mouth. Nothing came to mind so she let it be.

Back at Gaara's apartment like hut…

The girl watched Gaara closely as he went and grabbed a chair. Once he was seated she looked at the gourd that he removed from his back just moments ago. She knew what was in it but something wasn't right about the sand. `It smelled funny.' She then looked around the apartment like hut. It was a simple place with all the needed necessities such as a bed, a desk and a closet. Next to the bed was a single window. `Guess he doesn't need light, unlike ME!' She didn't really like the dark. There was another door so she assumed it was the bathroom. `Speaking of a bath…' She looked back at Gaara who had gotten impatient waiting for her attention. She raised an eyebrow. “So, your name is Gaara, right?” He didn't answer her but she was sure she was right. The girl crossed her arms and stiffened. “Why'dya bring me here?” He still didn't answer her, instead he asked his own question.

“Who are you?” She was getting a little angry at his ignorance but was tired and didn't feel like arguing anymore. She sighed and answered him.

“I am Akira, of the Village of the Rain and I would be eternally grateful if I could stay under your roof tonight.” He didn't hesitate or even have a second thought before he nodded. She smiled at him.

`First I've seen from her.' He thought. Akira asked if she could have her feet released and he agreed on one condition. She must stay inside the house. She approved and he cut her restraints since she used her last Kunai earlier.

The next few hours went by slowly. Akira told him why she was here and how she was already a Chuunin. Gaara was a bit surprised that a girl his age could already be a Chuunin but it didn't bother him that much. Nothing ever seemed to bother him. He was strong enough and smart enough to take out any enemy that got in his way. But what was the deal with this girl? How could she break through his defense?

Akira looked at him. “Uh, are you ok? `Cause I could sit somewhere else if you're not.” He didn't answer her. “Hello?” His eyes were closed so she thought he might have fallen asleep. She stood, walked to over to the left side and poked his head with her index finger, waking him from his daze. And before she could ask him again he had her pinned on the wooden floor. She began to struggle against the weight of his body. “Hey what's the big idea!? I was only trying to see if you were ok!” His face got extremely close to hers (again!) and she blushed. Gaara glared at her innocent act (or so he thought it was an act V_V <Lehu-zaher! > ~ Loser).

“Don't touch me unless you have a death wish.” Her blush faded as she became frustrated with him.

“Yeah, sure, what ever. But could you get off of me, please?” He grumbled something under his breath and got off of her. He wasn't going to get bossed around by her any more. Akira stood up and brushed the dirt off her butt. “Thank you. Now I only have one more request. Can I use your bath, plleeeaase?” She laced her fingers together as if she were praying and bowed. He stared at her like she was crazy.

`How pathetic.' He rolled his eyes and walked over to the bathroom. She looked up and he was opening the door. She smiled inwardly and walked past him into the small room. She turned to him.

“Thank you for your hospitality. I owe you one.” He walked away and didn't answer. Akira watched him leave and sighed. `I don't think I'll ever get a response from him. Man this is such a pain.' She walked over to the tub and got undressed. She did the same jutsu she used on Gaara's sand wall to fill up the tub only she summoned hot water instead of cold. She took the chopsticks out of her hair, letting it fall to about knee length and climbed in. The water was perfect except… “Oh!” She reached over and grabbed a small baggie that was on top of her neatly folded clothes. She dumped the containments in the water and used her Chakra to turn them into rose petals. She smiled at her handiwork. “There. Just like staying in one of Konoha's finest hot springs.” She sunk into the water, leaving her head up to breath and let her hair flow in the warm water.

In Konoha…

“Yo, Kiba! We shouldn't be heading towards Gaara's place! You saw what he could do!” Shikamaru really, really didn't think this was a good idea. `Aw man! What a drag.' Kiba looked over his shoulder and smirked.

“C'mon, you can't tell me that you don't wanna know if the rumors are true!” He turned back around. Shikamaru glared at him.

“No. But I would like to live longer!” He shouted. Kiba shushed him because he didn't realize they were right next to Gaara's house. Kiba sent Akamaru (his dog) to see if there was anyone in the house. After a few seconds, Akamaru came back.

“Ruff! Ruff ruff!” Shikamaru hated their stupid dog talk. He couldn't understand any thing they were saying.

“So…?” Kiba looked back with a serious look. “Two. One female. One male.” Shikamaru sighed.

“Ok. We got proof. Can we go now?” He looked around to see if anyone was around while Kiba got pissed.

“No, we can't go now. It could be his sister and not a girl from the Rain village.” Shikamaru was about to argue when Kiba sunk low to the ground and started towards the house. Shikamaru sighed and followed him to the house.

`This is a really bad idea.'

Kiba reached the house first and noticed there were only two windows. `Aww man!' How were they supposed to catch Gaara with a girl from the Rain village if there were only two windows! Shikamaru joined him shortly after that.

“What's wrong Kiba?” Kiba turned around.

“There are only two windows. You take the one on the left. I'll go to the other side.” He whispered and Shikamaru followed the plan.

The window on the left was the bathroom window and Shikamaru was startled at what he found. `That is not his sister.' His mouth hung open as he stared at the bathing girl. Wet silver hair clinging to her skin showing the heart shape of her face. But he felt wrong spying on a girl when she's bathing. He was about to leave when Kiba jumped in front of him.

“So you find anything Shikamaru?” Shikamaru nodded.

“Yeah. And it sure isn't his sister taking a bath in there unless she all of a sudden got really long silver hair.” Kiba smirked and tried to get passed Shikamaru but he wouldn't let him pass. “No Kiba we can't spy on a bathing girl. It's wrong.” Kiba frowned.

“Fine.” They turned around and left. Shikamaru felt just a bit more at ease now that they were away from Gaara's house.

`Now to get FAR away!' He thought. His mind traveled back to the girl he saw. Why didn't the girl seem to be scared even though she was with the top ranking Gennin taking the Chunnin exam? He thought of possible answers. Maybe they were relatives? No. Friends? Yeah, right. The last one he didn't even bother putting on the list. It would be totally insane! Like it would actually happen. It wouldn't, right?
