CHAPTER 2-SAIGA
Akira stepped out of the tub and put her dirty clothes back on her body. She walked over to the window for some light to pick the rose petals from her hair. She sat on the windowsill to get dry as she raked her fingers through her hair. The warm light from the sun was almost enough to put her to sleep. Her eyes started to drift shut when Gaara's sand wrapped around her body and picked her up. She opened her eyes wide and tried to get her arms out. “Hey! What's-…” The sand silenced her over her mouth. She started to struggle when the sand tightened around her and started drifting into the other room. She was surprised when she saw Gaara seemingly asleep on the bed. `Wha- what's going on here?!' How could he be sleeping when his sand is around her? She stopped struggling when he moaned in his sleep and waited to see what will happen next.
(GAARA'S DREAM)
Gaara. His name was Sabaku no Gaara and he was a monster in everyone's minds. He sat on the edge of the rock that was by the only waterfall in the sand village. His forehead rested on his knees while his arms wrapped around his shins. He was crying. Everyone hated him, feared him. But why? He was only a child about 8 years old. He had no control over what had happened to him. And he hated himself for it. The demon that was now inside him made him more dangerous then any of the Nins in the sand village. His sobs became rougher. Everyone did hate him.
There was a rustle in the bushes and he looked over, wiping the tears from his eyes. “W-who's there? Come out now!” The rustling continued as a small girl, no more than six, with silver hair steeped out of the bushes. She blinked twice and looked at Gaara with sympathy. He glared at her. “Go away.” He said harshly and put his head back on his knees to start crying again. She walked over to him and crouched down with her hands on her knees. She tilted her head slightly.
“Why are you crying? Can I help you?” Her voice was sincere and soft. He looked up at her with a bit of bewilderment in his eyes.
“You. Who are you?” He couldn't believe that she wasn't afraid of him. She wasn't calling him a monster and running off, leaving him in his misery.
She smiled warmly at him. “I'm from the rain village. The name's Saiga. Who are you?” She continued to smile. He could see his reflection in her clear, green eyes. He mumbled his name to her and she raised an eyebrow. “Not very social, are ya?” She held her hand out to him and he just stared at it for a moment before placing his own hand in it. She heaved him up and smiled genuinely for him and only him. He was shocked. This petite girl was offering to help him. She started to tug on his hand. “C'mon, follow me!” He did as she commanded and followed her lead when it started to rain. Gaara hated the rain. It made the sand all soggy and heavy. She let go of his hand. “Ah! I love the rain! Don't you?” She looked back and saw a soaked, slightly pissed boy glaring at her. She laughed nervously and took his hand again. She looked behind her and pointed her finger ahead of them. “There's a cave right over here. We can stay here until the rain stops.” She turned back around an she suddenly, right before his eyes, started to get bigger. Not wide, though. She seemed to be getting older. Her hair getting longer as well as her arms and legs. He looked down and saw his reflection in a puddle. He, also, was matured. They were both about seven years older. What was going on? This isn't the way it happened before. He looked around the girl in front of him and saw the cave when she let go of his hand again. She looked over her shoulder and smiled. That face. He knew that face from somewhere but he couldn't put his finger on it. “Lets go.” She looked forward and took off towards the cave. He only walked after her.
Once they were settled in the cave Saiga took the liberty of going out again to get firewood. Gaara said it would be too wet to make a fire with but he was surprised when she actually got a fire going with it. She told him about this one Jutsu she knows how to do and it has something to do with extracting the water from an object. The two sat side by side and waited in silence when all of a sudden he felt her weight against his shoulder. He moved his shoulder slightly and she sat up with sleepy eyes. She turned to him. “Oh, I'm sorry. Did I disturbed you?” He was about to say `yes' but he couldn't bring himself to say it. In truth, he liked it when she was leaning against him. It just felt right. He didn't know how but he felt like he'd always known this girl. So he shook his head `no' and she slightly smiled. “Ok, but if you want, I can sleep over there.” She pointed to her right. He shrugged and she curled up on the ground next to him, her cheek within the palm of her hand. She yawned and closed her eyes. A small smile was placed on her lips. Once he was sure she was asleep, he stood and leaned against the cave entrance. Apparently, she wasn't asleep because as soon as he got comfortable she got up and followed him. He heard her feet on the ground and looked over his shoulder. She didn't look happy, she looked worried. Her eyes were showing worry, for him? Was she worried about him? “What's wrong?” She shouldn't be worrying about him, she should be worrying about herself. He has a demon inside him and he doesn't know what he's capable of. He doesn't want to hurt her in any way.
“Nothing.” He answered. As if on cue, she placed her hand on his shoulder and smiled weakly. She was still pretty tired. He turned around, her hand sliding off his shoulder to rest on his toned chest. He looked at the ground aside of her with no emotion and she sighed.
“You might think this is crazy, after all we did just meet each other, but…I feel as if I've known you my entire life.” She smiled brightly. Gaara looked up at her. He felt the same way too. But… he wasn't meant to be happy. Not with this demon inside him. She looked at her feet, green eyes covered in shadow. “You're leaving, aren't you?” She already knew? He hadn't wanted her to find out. He wanted her to be asleep when he left. He lifted her face by his index finger under her chin. He saw tears and felt like he had hurt her. “I don't want you to go.” He pulled her closer to him so that she was right beneath him, looking up at his face. She brought her other hand up between their bodies to rest against his chest also. (Note: What is about to happen didn't really happen in the past. This is just Gaara's imagination. ^v^) He lowered his lips to hers so that they were just lightly touching. She could tell he was having trouble making his mind up and pushed herself up onto her toes so their lips fully join, her tears slipping down her face, making small dots on the ground by their feet. He was surprised at first but soon got over it when he felt her arms slither around his neck. He closed his eyes and slipped one of his arms around her waist and the other behind her neck as he deepened the kiss…
(End dream)
Gaara quickly opened his eyes only to hear a `thud' next to the bed. He looked over and saw Akira asleep on the floor with sand all around her. He stared at the scene and thought. Had the sand moved on it's own while he was in bed? But why was the girl in the sand? Did she attack him? Or did the sand carry her out of the bathroom? He would find the answers soon enough. He was in the mood to do some training. Gaara removed the sand from around her body and picked her up with the sand that was beneath her. For some reason, he was drawn to her face. `Saiga…?' Why did she remind him of Saiga? He became frustrated. He shook the girl until she woke up. She was a little stunned at first but then became a bit angry when she saw Gaara and punched him in the gut.
“What's the big idea sending your sand after me in your sleep?! Are you trying to kill me?!” He took hold of her wrist with one hand while the other held his stomach. That was one hell of a punch. She became quiet.
“What's your full name?” he asked harshly. She didn't want to tell him but it just kind of slipped out.
“I... I don't know.” In truth, she had lost her entire memory of the past and didn't even remember her own name. She sighed and looked at the ground. Why? Why couldn't she remember her own past? No matter how hard she tried she couldn't remember.
Gaara glared at her. Was she lying? Or could she really not remember? He tightened his grip on her arm and wrenched her closer, forcing her to look up at him.
“Don't play games with me!” He growled. Akira flinched at the blood lust in his voice.
`Is he going to kill me?' She shook it off her mind and looked back at him, then the ground again. “I wish I could tell you, but as I said, I don't remember. In fact, I don't remember anything from my past, including my own name.” He looked away from her and out the window. It was about an hour past noon and he still hasn't gotten any training in. Akira giggled. “So, how about we get some training in? After all, you didn't bring me here to talk.” He turned and smirked. For some reason, even if she wasn't the girl he thought she was, he liked her,(O.O) sort of (V_V Grrr!). She was very enthusiastic about training with him. She wasn't scared or over confidant. She was exactly the kind of training partner he was looking for. But what else was he feeling? There was something other then excitement about his new training companion. And yes, he was feeling this about the girl. But what? He liked her enthusiasm, yes. But there was another emotion. Something deeper then just having a attachment. Something he's never felt before…
Authors Note: Yes, I know this is somewhat out of character but how else can I have Gaara fall in love?! Still, howdya like the second chapter?
Preview of next chapter…
She swung a kunai at his head but his sand got in her way and took the weapon from her. He smirked, “Little girls shouldn't be playing with sharp objects.” Gaara said playfully. She smirked back. She wasn't expecting that one and it kind of pissed her off. Who was he calling a little girl? She may have cried when she was younger, but her come back was brilliant.
“Who's the little girl, hiding behind a wall of sand? I would say you're afraid of me!” She chuckled inwardly at his mumbles and curses. Man this was so much fun! Akira did some hand signs and disappeared, only, Gaara was too worked up about her remark about him being afraid of a girl that he didn't notice. He wasn't afraid! He just, didn't feel like bandaging wounds. He was broken out of his thoughts when someone kicked him in the back with an enormous amount of Chakra…
