CHAPTER 10- I told you it would come in handy!!
Naruto's chakra flared red as Neji became confused.
How could he have enough chakra to break through the blocked chakra lines? He shouldn't so how…
Akira could feel the power of the chakra being emitted from her friend, such immense power… how could she not feel it before?
That kind of power does not hide so easily. She could gather information on ones charkas in the blink of an eye but she never saw this. Was her friend really that powerful?
“Naruto…?” she whispered to herself, not really sure why she said his name.
She peered down at Gaara who seemed to be in a different world.
`But- but…! I don't wanna leave her!! WAAAAAAA!!!' Shukaku was upset about Gaara telling the girl she must leave when his fight comes. He wasn't about to loose this one, not again.
He could remember her little hand pulling him along in the rain, her smiling face and innocent eyes. She was strong back then, she's even stronger now. The raccoon knew that if she got serious, no one could beat her, not even the Hokages. Not even Gaara.
Gaara on the other hand thought that he had done the right thing. He didn't want her in the war he had started. She didn't belong in it.
`You suck you know that! We could protect her!' Gaara growled at him. No, they couldn't protect her if she tagged along. Both of the villages would attack her.
The leaf village would attack her for protecting him. The sand village would attack her for being the leaf village's guest.
He sighed. It would be impossible to protect her against two villages. He being far away was really for the best.
`She not going to leave us so easily.' Shukaku reminded him about how stubborn she was.
`Dammit!' Gaara cursed her for her ego. Shukaku was right there; she wasn't going to give up so effortlessly.
He looked up at where she was and saw her staring at him with sad eyes. She closed them and turned away painfully, as if she was too upset to look at him.
`Is she really that sad?'
`Hell yeah! She doesn't want to leave us again!' Shukaku said with a tint of annoyance. Gaara rolled his eyes and looked back at the field.
He was now concentrating on the Uzamaki kid's chakra level. It was almost like he had a different person in him feeding him the chakra, like the Shukaku demon inside him. He knew that there was a demon, which attacked the leaf village a while back; the Kyuubi or something like that. It was sealed inside an infant's body. Could this boy be the vessel?
`If he is than he too dangerous to be around our mate! The fox's mating season is coming up soon too ya know!' Gaara paled,
`Oh shit…' Gaara knew what would come if the Kyuubi fell for Akira… a battle for dominance. Akira would be right in the middle of another war.
Once Naruto gathered enough of the fox's chakra, he pulled out a kunai and rushed at Neji. Neji also pulled out a kunai but threw it at Naruto. Naruto dodged it with ten times the speed he had before, pushing off the wall. Neji glared at the spot where he pressed off the wall,
`He's twice as fast!'
Naruto came up in front of Neji, just so sudden that his opponent barely had time to react.
Neji pulled out a kunai and took a quick swerve to the left, moving only his left foot as Naruto came at him full force.
Neji could see it. Red chakra collided with his blue. Naruto's focused face glared intently at his rather stunned one.
`How could this loser gather this much strength?!'
Dust erupted around them as a loud boom was heard amongst those in the stadium.
“Naruto-kun!!” Akira yelled but because of the dust that consumed the stadium, she couldn't see if her friend was all right.
That seemed to feel even worse and astounded at the same time.
The power that collided with each other was brilliant. It could have killed them both. Hopefully, they were both still alive.
Gaara heard her scream.
Why was she worried about that kid? If he failed he failed and should pay for his weakness with death.
His memories of the second part of the exams with the freakish duo, when she died for him, his childhood…
He grasped his head in pain and groaned. What was wrong with him?! Why did he always have these memories?
He tried to gain control.
Temari looked over at Gaara and became scared.
`Oh no. Not this again!' She didn't want to see that thing again. The first time she saw it she couldn't sleep without nightmares for half a year…
The Shukaku.
The dust settled and two mounds of dirt could be seen.
Which one had Naruto in it? Their answered was soon given to them as one of the mounds began to move.
The audience held their breath. A bandaged hand punched out of the dirt and out came the rest of the person.
Akira furrowed her eyebrows at who came out. To her dismay, it was Hyuuga Neji that survived the explosion.
`Naruto-kun…? I know you're better than that! C'mon! get up!' She peered down at the lifeless body that was once known as Naruto. `C'mon Naruto!!!!!'
Neji stood in triumph. He looked at his opponent's body.
`I told him- wha!!' there was a crumbling under him as the dirt shook. What was going on? He got his answer.
Naruto's fist came flying out of the ground so quick that Neji didn't have time to move and took the blow full force on the jaw.
It was a grinding pain that swept over him as he hit the ground, paralyzed.
“What?! I can't move!” Naruto walked over to him and looked at him.
“I told you that I vowed to win.” He looked at Hinata. “For Hinata-chan! And to prove that I can become Hokage!”
Hinata blushed and smiled innocently to Naruto.
`N-Naruto-kun!'
“Yeah! I told you it would come in handy!” Akira pumped her fist into the air as she cheered her friend on.
The third Hokage only smiled.
Neji stared at the sky.
`How could I loose? Was this my destiny?'
He was very confused with himself. If he was supposed to be the best Hyuuga, then why did he loose? He felt like there was something missing from himself. Oh yeah… his pride.
The medic-nins came and picked him up shortly after and Naruto was sent back up to where the contestants were.
The host began to announce the next match.
“Okay. The next match is Sabaku no Kankuro and—“
“I decline.” All eyes turned to Kankuro. He repeated, “I decline.”
`I can't have anyone see my ability yet, not until the signal.'
Sino looked at him, upset that he didn't get to fight the sand ninja.
`Oh well…' There wasn't much he could do about it now.
Akira looked at her friend questionably.
`He's letting that Shino kid win by default?' She knew that if he was Gaara's brother, he didn't like to give up so easily, especially if it was a challenge. But then again, maybe Kankuro didn't like challenges like Gaara. `Maybe it had something to do with…'
“Get out of here.” Her eyes got wide with shock. The way he said it… it was like venom was thickly dripping off each of his words to her… like he really meant it. Was something going to happen? Something bad?
She looked at him.
“Wha—“
“I won't explain, but as soon as it's my match, get the hell away from this village, got it?”
She became sad again but quickly recovered when she realized Temari's match was next. She flew down on her giant fan before the host could begin it.
`Oh great…' Shikamaru become conscious that it was his turn to fight now. `Why do I always have to fight girls? What a drag…' He leaned against the railing when Naruto came up behind him and hit him on the back, making him loose balance, his arms flailing around.
“Yeah Shikamaru! Get going!” And with that, Naruto pushed him over the railing and onto the battlefield.
`Thanks a lot Naruto…' He stared at the clouds, `Sometimes I wish I was a cloud, just going wherever the wind took me, just floating…'
…
…
…
…
Akira looked at the lazy bum on the field staring at the clouds with a simple face.
`This guy's got serious cloud envy…'
