How could he just watch her walk away from him? He just let her walk away. What kind of man does that? Lets the female he wants, needs, and desires who is also carrying his seed walk off without so much as a protest. Great, now he was feeling awfully stupid. Almost as stupid as he looked...
“You look wonderful…” His aunt appeared behind him and pulled the tie out of his hair and finger combed it. “Hizashi would be proud.” She whispered.
“Proud of what? That I look so much like him while attending my cousin’s wedding?”
“No, that you are doing the right thing even at the expense of your own heart.” She continued fixing his long mane that took forever to grow back after the whole “retrieve Sasuke” mission. He turned his gaze from himself in the mirror and looked at his aunt who had a small smile on her face.
“So you knew I cared about her?”
“Care is an understatement.” She muttered make a look of pure shock cross his features. “I mean yes.” She corrected looking at his reflection in the mirror. “I was disappointed with the entering her room at dawn, and the courtyard incident. I mean I would’ve had you marry her on the spot if Hiashi wasn’t such a stickler for his decisions.” She whispered. “I was a shinobi once in my youthful days, Hiashi wasn’t. So I know a lot of the tricks of the trade.” She tied his hair back once more.
“If you knew then…”
“Neji… I have always treated you like my son.” She hugged him “Actually part of me wished for a son so I wouldn’t have to trade my daughters. Anyway, you are not my son, and you alone have hardships you have suffered. That makes you a man worth giving my oldest daughter to. After all…” She lowered the band he used to replace his forehead protector (since it clashed entirely with the nice clothing he wore) to show the markings of the branch house curse. “You are more powerful than anyone in this family even with a handicap as this.” Her fingers traced the lines. “You are disrespected… and you have lost your father.”
“We must get ready to go Mayumi…” Sakue interrupted.
“We will be right there…” His aunt spoke once more before turning to him. “As I was saying, your power is crippled, your father is gone, you’ve no siblings, and are constantly second guessed since you are branch house.” She kissed his temple. “Hiashi knows all of this, but doesn’t know something I know.” She watched Neji turned his head then his body to face her. She smiled since he had been intently listening to her and was waiting for her to finish.“That you love his daughter, the very daughter shadowed by her younger sibling and pushed out of light from his affections. Both you and Hinata have been raped of all you deserve; don’t let him rape you of your happiness.” She squeezed him before walking away, but paused at the door. “At least don’t go out without a fight. This way I know my oldest “son” won’t be a spoiled brat.” She nodded and walked out of the room.

She made her way into the room with her head down. Sakue had led her to sit on the bed while the other women started on her hair and everything else. Part of her wanted to sob, but no. She wouldn’t cry. Not until after her wedding night. Tears will be saved for after the ordeal, this way she could play them for homesickness, or fear of being impregnated already, or something childish.
“Stand.” Sakue commanded as Hinata was once more stripped of her clothing standing nude, shivering slightly at the spring breeze that blew through the open window.
Immediately her arms were held over her head as they proceeded to bind her chest up once more then a yukata had been slipped over her head. And they proceeded to dress her in the white kimono recognized as her Shiro-maku… a wedding kimono. Once that had been slipped on, the maidens proceeded to paint her face whiter that it already is.
“You should be happy Hinata-sama…” The maiden who had stepped up to paint her lips with a red rouge color. “Your bridegroom is indeed very handsome and is well off.”
“You were checking out the bridegroom, Li Na?” The one who had been fixing the headpiece commented.
“You know you were too…Mina.” Li Na looked at the girl with the headpiece and finished up the last of Hinata’s make up. “There…” She took a step back as Sakue had finished pinning up her hair just in time for Mina to place the tsuno kakushi on top of the traditional hairstyle.
“How lovely…” The women all “awwed” as they moved to let Hinata glance at herself in the mirror. Upon looking at herself Hinata felt her eyes well up.
“Don’t cry you’ll smudge the make up!!” Li Na rushed forward with a napkin to blot the inner corners of the girl’s eyes saving the red paint on her eyelids. At the precise moment there had been a knock at the door.
“Perhaps the messenger with the carriage...” Sakue rushed to open the door, instead found herself face to face with Hyuuga Neji.
“Sakue… If I can have a moment to speak with Hinata-sama.” His voice came out quieter than expected. Immediately she could see the three maidens in the room huddle and whisper.
“Mai…” Sakue addressed the one who had been quiet while dressing Hinata in her kimono.
“Y-yes?”
“Lead Li Na and Mina out of the room…” She said as the three females moved. “Do not say anything that will upset her. You hear me.” She turned her gaze on Neji before leading the three women away. Neji entered the room and slid the door shut.
“Hinata I…” He turned to look at her and froze on the spot. He stared at her in her wedding kimono and it actually knocked the wind out of his lungs.
“Neji, I can’t do this!!” She blurted out sucking on her lower lip not caring if she wipes off her make-up. “Neji, I... I thought I could but… I can’t. It’s all too much and… and…” He watched her struggle to move in the exceptionally long kimono but he just rushed forward to hug her.
“You’re beautiful…” He took a step back almost afraid of wrinkling any part of her.
“I want to run away with you. We can still leave if you take this thing off of me.” She moved her hands to start clawing at the white material, but he grabbed her hands.
“We can’t runaway.” He whispered to her. She looked at him with all alarm on her face.
“What do you mean we can’t? Last night you were…”
“I was being selfish.” He kissed her hands before returning them to her. “But if I want to do this I will have to fight your father and your husband to be. I have to prove you are wanted by someone, needed by someone and further more… important to someone and above all not second place to a child who isn’t in touch with the emotions that brings you to life.”
“That hurts…” The voice of Hanabi made them both jump. They looked at the girl in her regular clothes. “I thought I would have to beat the sense into you if you didn’t disrupt this wedding Neji.” She took a few steps forward. “But if you are to disrupt this wedding to fight for her sake, I will have to fight my sister for yours.~*~*~
