Chapter One
July 3rd, 2007, 9:23pm
Neji's lips brushed against Tenten's swiftly. They had to keep it short and sweet, for Gai-sensei had warned them about public affection.
“Now I know you and Neji are dating, Tenten,” Their sensei had said, “But I don't want you two telling it to the whole world. It's just not youthful.”
The couple had laughed at it at first, but they hadn't realized how much of a pain it would be. Everytime they hugged, or kissed, or anything, Gai would give them the “Youthfulness” lecture.
“Love you,” he whispered into her ear. “Ditto.” She replied.
They couple, along with Gai-sensei and Lee, walked down a path leading up to a large villa. That was where they lived now.
When the rookie nine and team Gai became chunin, the hokage decided they were mature enough to live in a house together, that way it would be easier to round them up for a mission. But boy was she wrong.
Almost everyday something would go wrong. Either Choji had eaten up all the chips, or Naruto had eaten up all the ramen. And then there was that occasional Hinata vs. Neji thing.
“Hey guys,” Sakura greeted them as they waltzed inside. They were limping, of course. That mission had really beaten them up.
As they walked into the living room, they saw Shikamaru and Asuma playing monopoly.
Shikamaru lifted his head to look them. “Hey,” He said. Neji muttered an “Uhn” and Tenten and Lee waved.
“Okay kids,” Gai-sensei stated as they were all comfortably settled on the couch. “I think it's about time for me to hit the sack.” He stood, did his teeth-ping and walked out of the room.
Neji pulled Tenten onto his shoulder. The light of the TV and the candle by the table were Shikamaru and Asuma still played were the only lights that lit the room.
Tenten loved the feeling of being in Neji's arms. She loved the way her fishnet shirt rustled against his cotton tunic, and she loved the way she could smell his shampoo that he claimed to hate so much.
Then the Hyuuga lifted his arm. Tenten looked to her left and saw Neji yawn. “I'm tired, Tenten.” The light of the candle flickered in his cold, lavender eyes. “Okay.” Tenten said simply. He kissed her cheek and stood. “Night everyone,”
After he left, the only people left were Tenten, Sakura, Lee, Shikamaru, and Asuma.
Asuma looked at Shikamaru sternly. “It's getting late,” He flicked his cigarette into the ashtray beside him. “I quit.” Shikamaru smiled triumphantly. “I knew you couldn't keep it up for long. You owe me 700 dollars, and you were about to land on the boardwalk, which I own.” Asuma rolled his eyes at the arrogant boy. “Shut up, Nara. I'm going to bed.” Then he looked at Tenten and Sakura, who were chatting senselessly on the couch and Lee who was watching TV. “Sakura, Tenten, Lee.” They looked up. “Yes sensei?” They said in unison. “Don't stay up too late.”
“What a drag,” Shikamaru said. “Now I have no one to play with.” Tenten looked at him looked at him kindly. “I'll play.” Shikamaru smirked at her. “You sure you can beat me?” He untied his ponytail and let his hair drop. Man, did he look good.
The brown-haired girl snapped out of her thoughts. “Yuh-huh…I can beat you.”
They took their game pieces. Tenten was the moneybag and Shikamaru was the racecar.
“Pick up 200 bucks,” Tenten said, annoyed with her opponent's luck. She had just paid him money for landing on the boardwalk and now he was about to pass go!
“Told you! You can't beat me, it's impossible.”
Tenten sighed. He was right. She took her game piece off of the board and put it back in the box. She was done.
“What're you doing?” Shikamaru asked confusedly. With a groan, she looked at him. “Going to bed. It's late.” She took her cell phone out of her throwing-stars pocket and looked at the clock.
11:38
Then she looked back at the couch. Sakura had fallen asleep on Lee's shoulder, who was asleep also.
The two chunin walked up the spiral stair case to the 3rd floor, where the students slept. The senseis slept on the 2nd.
They stopped at a closed door that had “Choji and Shikamaru's Room” bolted on the front.
“Goodnight Shikamaru.” Said Tenten.
“Night.” Shikamaru replied.
Tenten put on her polka dotted pajamas and folded her fishnet getup on the bed. She then headed for Neji's room.
“Knock, knock.” Tenten muttered from outside his door. The door was open, so she decided to walk in. Neji sat on his bed reading a book.
“I thought you were going to bed,” Tenten said down on the bed beside him.
“I was,” Neji started, “But I couldn't keep myself away from a good book.”
They both laughed uncomfortably.
“I think I'm going to go to bed now, though.”
Neji yawned and lay down on his bed. “Goodnight,” He said hastily. Tenten smirked and lay down with him.
“What're you doing?” He asked agitatedly. Tenten's smirk grew wider. “Sleeping…with you.” Neji sat up. “You can't do that. You know what Gai-sensei will think.” Tenten rolled her eyes then ran her fingers through her boyfriend's hair. “Of course I know, but he's not here right now.” Neji became angry. “You can't Tenten. Get out.” Tenten's face fell. “Huh? What did you-” “Get OUT.”
Shocked with Neji's words, Tenten slowly rose and walked out of his room.
Outside his door was Shikamaru. He smirked at her.
“What're you looking at, Nara?” Tenten asked irritably. Shikamaru looked sympathetic, but kept his smirk. “You and Neji had a fight, huh?” Tenten tried to ignore him and walk pass, but he grabbed her arm. “Yes…so. What's it to you?” She jerked her arm away. “He's under a lot of stress, that's all. Nothing to worry about.” Shikamaru tried his best to comfort her with his words, but they didn't seem to work. “Goodnight,” Tenten said, and then she stomped down the corridor.
He's under stress…
Tenten lay awake in her bed at 12:03. She kept thinking about what Neji had said to her. Before they had failed that mission, he would let her sleep in his bed with her. Maybe Shikamaru was right, but all she knew right now was that she couldn't sleep. So she decided to go get something to drink to calm herself down.
As quietly as possible, Tenten tiptoed down the hall to the elevator. She would've taken the stairs, but they were too squeaky and they'd wake everybody up.
The metal doors opened. Tenten had always had bad dreams about getting stuck in an elevator, but she really wasn't thinking about that right now.
The elevator stopped at the second floor. Shit. Someone was getting on.
Once again the doors opened and Gai-sensei walked onboard.
“Tenten…?”
“Oh…hi sensei.”
“Why're you up this early in the morning?”
Now she knew she had to lie. If Gai-sensei knew she was going to get some sake, and because of Neji, he'd kill her.
“Uh…I'm going to get some breakfast and then go train.”
“Oh. Lee too. You guys can train together.”
“Why're you up sensei?”
“I'm going to patrol the house. Make sure everyone's keeping the youthfulness alive.”
Tenten sweatdropped. Oh boy.
