Slight Author's Note:
I at first had intended this being another lemon one shot but then I started talking to some people and a lot of people wanted a depressing story so here is an attempt on one. Tell me what you think. Oh and I dedicate this story to my friend Tweak because he always reads my fanfics! ^_^
Hopes Fall
One Shot : The Ambush
It had all happened so fast, the attack, the blood, and the mass cries of her team around her. Many bodies crashing to the ground in slow motion. Her jade eyes fluttered closed as the sharp pain shot through her side in a splash of crimson. Her body hit the ground with a sickening thud. It was as if time stopped for her. She felt the cool body of her once loved one next to her.
He was dead.
His icy cold arm was pressed in to her side and the thought of him never being alive again made her want to cry. However she was in no state to cry. She could replay the actions and emotions that had happened today like a movie playing in her mind over and over. Stuck on repeat as she watched her fellow teammates die before her very eyes.

Everything had gone wrong in this simple mission. All the old team had to do was deliver a simple message. The three ex-teammates, now Jounins had accepted the mission so they could spend time together. Naruto had begged Tsunade-sama for the three of them to have it. When she finally said yes, the three took off. Just like in the old days, minus Kakashi-sensei. He was currently working as lieutenant on the border. They wouldn't be able to see him for another year unless Sakura took a medical job out there. No one wanted to work there…It was a place to escape.
Traveling quickly to the country of the mist, they were ambushed. Naruto was first to throw his fists out in to the fight, Sasuke pushing Sakura out of the way by habit. He sometimes had forgotten how strong she really was now. Nothing like in the old days. She was the highest skilled medical ninja in Konoha and had personal training with Tsunade-sama almost daily.
With a good twenty or so Naruto clones running around, they took care of most of the invaders, Sasuke's arm had sparks flying off it as he tackled several more Mist ninja with his Chidori. Screams and blood went flying through the air. Sakura winced as she watched more mist Nin come. She moved from her hiding place and joined in battle. Sasuke looked back at her opening his mouth to yell at her, but the sound was stolen from his mouth as a shuriken hit the center of his back. Blood shot from the back his throat as he mouthed to her `run.'
Sasuke twisted around throwing kunai knives everywhere as Naruto took a beating from others. Sakura watched in slow motion as a silver haired mist ninja shot her way his hands forming some sort of jutsu. She was too scared to take notice of what it was. She felt her body being forced to the ground as Naruto collided with her to take the hit. That, he did…His body took the blow, falling to the ground with an unhealthy thud and his shook a bit. The light layer of snow on the ground melted around her body.
“Sakura-Chan….” He whispered before his eyes glazed over and closed.
“….N…Naruto!” She screamed sitting up on her knees crawling over to him shaking his shoulders roughly.
Sasuke took his eyes off the fight once more, looking over at a hysterical Sakura shaking a dead Naruto. He watched her stand up, her jade eyes reflecting mixed emotions as she reached for her two katanas drawing both of them off her back at once glaring down her enemies.
“Sakura!” Sasuke screamed after her as she ran forward attacking the group of ninja. She sliced and stabbed anyone within her reach. Blood rained around her as she twirled her swords remembering every piece of training she had ever done.
Sasuke stood there rooted to his spot as he watched his little cherry blossom become something else. It wasn't until he heard her screaming his name did he notice the kunai knife imbed itself into his chest. His heart stopped its beating almost instantly as his red eyes faded to black and he dropped to his knees watching her running to him. His vision went blurry and then his world went black.
Sakura watched his body slam to the ground, her feet skidded to a halt and tears pricked the corners of her eyes. They were dead…Anger blurred her vision and all she could remember was the sound of thunder over head as small drops of cold rain fell from the darkened sky. She wasn't finished yet. She had to finish the job, turning in her spot she looked at the last one standing. The one who killed Naruto…His hands were forming that same jutsu all over again, but this time, no one would save her. She had one chance to live, she just charged forward, two swords drawn not caring about the several dead bodies she skidded over.
There was a flash of light and she felt a force throwing her back to the ground. She inhaled sharply as her eyes winced and a dry cry left her cracked lips. She watched the mist ninja stumble back, one of her katanas right through his stomach. He staggered a bit before coughing up blood and falling backwards on to the ground.
Sakura shakily pushed her wounded body up, pain shooting up and down her arms and legs. Her body rattled its way to the body with her sword in it. The steel blade was smudged with blood and other bodily fluids that reflected her pathetic face in it as she tugged it out of the corpse. She wiped the blade on the bottom of her black ANBU pants and stared at it. Memories of everything that had just happened played in her mind.
Small tears formed in the corners of her jade eyes as the thoughts of returning home alone. No more Naruto, No more Sasuke…She would be the last Uchiha and it wouldn't even matter. She couldn't pass down his trait and had no purpose left in her life. All she cared for were dead…She was alone. The tears now trailed down her red cheeks, her sobs filling the cool air around her.
How would she live through this?
`I wasn't supposed to live…' she thought hastily. `If it wasn't for them…I wouldn't be here…'
Her eyes were fixed on the sharp swords in her hands. Her pale wrists shook with fear as she drew the blade close to her chest pressing it closer to her. She tilted her head back her pink lochs reaching down to her slender hips as she whispered her prayers in to the air. With a short cry crossed with a sob like noise she stabbed the sword through her chest pressing it in as far as possible. She felt the sticky substance flood out of her before her eyes closed. Sakura fell to the ground in between Sasuke's and Naruto's corpses. The snow continued to fall covering their bodies in a light frost before the rest of the Konoha ANBU team found their bodies... Their names now carved in to the black stone.
