Chapter 1

Her strawberry locks were gone.

Everyone admired her for them but she just hated how she stood out in the crowd. Not that she wanted to blend in, far from it she just hated the glances and stares that she got from it.

They were gone. Washed down the drain with the residue of the brown hair die she had used. Unfortunately it didn't work.

The brown had mixed with the pink not covered it and she instead got a dark maroon color. Anything's better than pink. She thought silently.

One more scrub with the towel and she was out the door.

A beautiful black silk top with white embroidery on the corners, fitting nicely over her petite eight-teen year old body, adorned her top half. A short jean skirt and leggings cut off just past the knees adorned her bottom.

She walked down the street the town was mostly quiet; omit a large house at the end of the street. That was her destination.

----

She knocked lightly on the door.

Nothing happened.

She knocked loudly.

Nothing happened.

Turning the knob she walked in the house. It was swarmed with people and the music was so loud she was surprised she didn't hear it from her own dwelling.

Sakura promptly found her way through the crowd and to the people she knew. A tall blonde held tightly to the girl in front of him. Her purple locks framed her face nicely; a pink blush was staining her cheeks.

Hina-chan always blushing, she thought silently especially when Naruto-kun is near her.

Walking over waving slightly to Naruto. He smiled in acknowledgment and pointed to the source of the blaring music.

A small stage had been set up in the front of the house and a band was playing.

Sakura recognized the base player as her friend Ino and waved jumping in the air. She smiled and hit a loud chord on the guitar she had slung around her shoulder. At the drums looked like Ten-Ten.

But what was enticing her interest was the lead singer. He held the microphone close to his mouth his tattered hair hung in front of his face blocking any view, but when he looked up to flip it back

Sakura almost forgot to breathe.

His piercing dark eyes met her emerald eyes for a moment. Sakura didn't have time to think anymore about it a hand wrapped around her waist and pulled her into a hard body.

“What the hell have you done with your hair?” A warm breath hit the back of her neck sending chills down her spine.

Sakura titled her head looking up at Shikamaru. His eyes half open from fatigue, a small smirk played on his lips.

“I've colored it. What ya think?” She primped it up and posed lifting her shoulder slightly.

“Cute. But you can't fully get rid of a pink like that.” Shikamaru pulled on one of her silky strands Sakura blushed lightly and feel back onto his chest “What ya think of the band?” Shikamaru rested his chin on her shoulder and talked loudly into her ear.

“There good. Who'd a thunk that Ino-chan could have gotten into a band like this.”

He laughed deep from within his throat Sakura could feel the vibrations on her back. She smiled along with him and listened to the rest of the song keeping her eyes locked on the vocalist.

----

The band had taken a ten minute break for drinks and such. The room was eerily quite as Sakura walked across the barren floor.

Ino hopped of the stage excitedly and jumped around for a second before calming down.

“Did. You. See. Me?!” Stopping at the end of each word to breathe in heavily. “We rocked and we still have another set. It's going to be so cool!”

“You were awesome. Who else is in the band with you?” `I slipped that in causally enough.'

“Here I'll introduce you.”

Ino snatched Sakura's hand and yanked her to the stage.

Ten-Ten hopped of the stage giddily and smiled brightly.

“Oi Boy.”

The other boy looked up from the amp. He was fiddling with the sound or something; jumping off the stage gracefully he sauntered toward them.

“Sasuke-kun this is my very best friend in the world Haruno Sakura, Sakura-chan this is Uchiha Sasuke.”

Silence.

“You talk, ok?” She ran over to Shikamaru and talked excitedly.

“Cherry Blossom.” Sakura looked up from the silence.

“hmm?”

“That's what your name means. It's very poetic. No?”

“I don't think. But you can.” Nice one. He smirked.

Silence. Awkward silence.

“You're a really good singer.” A lame comment.

“Psh.”

“I mean it. You really are. Compared to me...”

“You sing?” He seemed very interested with that mention.

“A little but I'm no good.”

“Nonsense. Our girl is fabulous!” Shikamaru broke into the conversation gripping Sakura's waist. Sasuke stiffened slightly, only Sakura seemed to notice. He had a slight sinking feeling at the thought that the girl he was so captivated with was taken but he didn't let the thought break his façade.

“O shut up. I suck.” She elbowed him in the stomach.

“I'd like to test that.” Sasuke grinned when he noticed Sakura blushing at his words.

“Sasuke-kun were on in five.” Ino ran back onto the stage and began to get her base.

“I'll see ya?”

“sure.” Sakura walked off with Shikamaru talking without even glancing back once at Sasuke.
