I pull myself out of the water in time to see the sun begin to disappear behind the titanic tree in the center of the village. I stand straight up and stare across the long bridge to the tree that conceals the mystic Hero Water. In front of the tree stands Shibuki talking to some other ninja.
Danm Shibuki!, I think, What the hell is his problem?. This is only the hundredth time I've been sent out on a mission to pick up trash around the waterfall, or inside the cave. Seriously, I'm the youngest Chuunin in Takigakure, but still he sends me on these childish missions to do things academy students do!
I think about walking right up to him and asking what his problem is, again, but I know he'll just say “It's not something that decides the fate of the village, but someone has to do it!” It's such a lie though. I know why, it's because I don't trust his new girlfriend. Little Mai, everyone just loves her, but I know she's nothing but a liar and a traitor. I keep telling him that she's just after the Hero Water, I can feel it, and my feelings are never wrong, but does anyone listen? Of course not.
Steamed as I am, I grin and bear it, again. On the way to my house I see Mai helping Shizuku and Himatsu with their ninjutsu. She stopped when she saw me, and walked over. Mai has long black hair held in a bun by two jade senbon. Dangling from her ears were two ruby earrings that went with her eyes that looked like they reflected a sun set. She wore a pink kimono with a large green bow wrapped around it. On her feet were golden yellow high heeled sandals. The girl had an expensive taste.
“Well well well…How was the mission?” she said sarcastically. She doesn't like me, but that's because I don't like her.
“Bitch.” And I kept walking.

I reached my house finally and walked inside. As the door closed behind me, the sun fully disappeared behind the tree and the village plunged into darkness. I pulled up a chair and just sat in front of the fire. Something inside me was trying to tell me something was wrong.
In the blink of an eye three jabs to the back of my neck had me on the floor paralyzed. The last thing I saw was a golden yellow high heeled sandal walking away then a smoke bomb exploding in front of me.
By the time I regained consciousness, the chaos had well begun. Every ninja in the village was either dead or fighting and all the villagers either captive or hiding. I rushed outside, alerted by the screams of helpless civilians. I was shocked to see my fellow Waterfall ninja being attacked by Rain nin. I rushed towards the tree in the center of our village where the main fighting was, throwing half minded blows to enemy ninja that neared me. Reaching the tree I noticed Murasame, a Rain nin that fought along side Suien, when they came for the Hero Water some time ago. I had not been there, like all other Nin in my village, for we were all off on missions.
I dashed forward and barreled into Murasame's side, making him tumble off of the root he had been standing on and fall onto the ground. I landed, feet together and locked straight out, on his chest. The impact pushed him farther into the ground beneath him. He swung his leg up and kicked me in the back, throwing me off. He jumped to his feet, but was ambushed by two Jonin, that were more than a match for him. It was then that I found Mai and Shibuki fighting with Suien. They were good against him, and I knew they could overcome him, but now, I knew, was a good chance to win Shibuki's trust. I raced towards them.
I leaped forward and slid, left leg extended towards him, into his feet, knocking him down. Before he hit the ground Shibuki rammed into his back. He began to fly through the air and another Waterfall shinobi came down on him, kicking him square in the stomach. The four of us had him cornered, and for a second he showed his fear.
That's when it happened.
He looked straight at Mai, and I saw her calm down. He did the best he could, but failed to hide his smirk. Then he shouted above all of the mayhem, “Go for the Hero Water!”
Mai looked back and Shibuki shifted his eyes all around. Kirisame, a Rain shinobi, and two other enemy ninja raced inside the tree.
“I'll stop them!” Mai declared. And she chased after the three.
Instantly I took off after her. I heard Shibuki yelling my name, trying to call me back. But I took no mind to it. I followed close behind Mai, and she didn't notice that I was there. But I noticed a lot of things, like how she never once attacked them, or said anything, just silently followed. They didn't attack her either.
When we reached the Hero Water shrine, my emotions were flaring. I knew it! I knew she was a traitor! We entered the shrine.
Mai didn't attack them, just walked up beside Kirisame as they watched the other two ninja remove the hanging water.
Instinctively my hands started forming seals. “Mizuame Nabara! Starch Syrup Capture Field!” Before Kirisame and the other two Rain nin had time to react, a sticky liquid coated the ground beneath all of their feet. Mai, on the other hand leaped back.
“Good job!” she said, trying to cover herself. But I pulled out a kunai instantly and lunged at her.
I got her close enough to the shrine to secure the Hero Water and keep her from escaping. Then two other Waterfall nin came in and spotted us. “Traitor!” they shouted.
Finally, they saw it. Now everyone would know her true nature.

Before I knew it, the three of them were attacking me.

I slurp down another warm noodle. Two seats next to me is Naruto Uzumaki, he's chatting casually with Teuchi and Ayame, but I can't stop stealing glances at him. He's not much of a looker, and he sometimes is annoying. I don't know him all too well. I was in his class when I was young, but then I moved onto become a genin when he was still in the Academy, but being around him is still, something. I don't know how to say it. I close my eyes, and then it hits me. Like a chakra-charged gust of wind, it almost knocks me off the seat. The room starts spinning and, without a word, I place the money on the counter and slowly come down from the stool. I did my best not to pass out as I stumbled down the dirt road towards my home. As the familiar red roofed building came into view, the swelling hope in my body quickened my pace on its own.
I threw the door open, my mom was out shopping and my dad on a mission. I climbed the stairs on my hands and knees and dragged myself into my room and onto my bed. I stared across the room at my unmoving body.

I blinked my eyes open and realized I'd slept all day. When I looked outside, the sky was dark. If it was early morning or late night, I did not know. I stood up, all the feeling having returned to my body during sleep, and looked in the mirror. Shoulder length dark red hair, scrunched and jelled, entwined with black streaks, crystal blue eyes, a turquoise t-shirt cut of at the ribs and at the shoulders, covering only the chest, orange fishnet on both arms and stomach, silver shorts, purple sandals with black fishnets halfway up the calves, and a single katana blade tied to the waste by a red Konoha forehead protector. This is Emi Oto.
I slipped out my window and jumped from the second story to the dirt below. The night air was still, and silent. It was filled with the sudden tapping of my shoes on the ground as I dashed through the streets. It was only when I reached the village gates that I realized I didn't know where I was going. Then I slowed to a walk and wandered through the village. After about a half hour I came across the Inuzuka house. Outside sat Kiba Inuzuka, an energetic genin who was in Naruto's class.
Awkward as it was, I sat down next to him, which was when he noticed me. “Hi.” I said, smiling.
“Hey.” He said absent mindedly.
“What are you doing?” I asked.
“Oh, nothing. Just staring at the stars.”
“Oh?”
“Yeah.”
I looked up at the moon, and to me, it seemed to be a face, that of a young boy around my age. He was sad.
It hit me again, this time more severe. I fell flat on my back and the fuzzy image of Kiba saying my name and trying to shake me faded into darkness. Then all my senses went dull and I slipped away, into the darkness.
