Black, crotch-less, lace panties,” Hinata thought. “He's cheating on me? Again?” In the back of her mind, Hinata always knew this would happen again, that there was atleast a possibility. Sasuke certainly didn't love her; it wasn't as if she truly loved him either, but he'd made a promise to be faithful to her when she'd found out about that other woman five years ago. She had given him another chance, thinking he'd keep his promise and that this shouldn't break up their family. She told herself she'd stay with him for the kids, like a complete newbie. Hinata thought that after all that, the least he could do was keep his pants zipped. Marriage was, after all, a holy union.

However, the lacy panties drooping from her motionless hand proved undoubtedly just how much of a liar he'd turned out to be, and most importantly, that this marriage, this dysfunctional assembly of people called a “family”, was nothing more than a sham. There was no more use to her pretending.

Long ago, when they were still young, Naruto was caught between being with Hinata or leaving the village to finish his training and finally descerate the few surviving of the Akatsuki. He wisely chose the Akatsuki - Who would forgive him for abandoning the village for a woman? - leaving Hinata dreadfully wounded at the age of sixteen. He knew how much he loved her, how much they loved each other, but he also knew the kind of danger he put her in. So Naruto chose the smart way out, leaving Hinata to go on with her life the best she could. Her father tried hard to keep the joy off his face, and, after an intense “I told you so” monologue, it was arranged for her to marry Sasuke. He had recently bargained his way back into Konoha just a few months after Naruto had left it, and was frequently seen walking through the streets he'd once abandoned looking mischievous and diabolical, giving everyone the impression that he wasn't right in the head. The villagers chalked it up to spending two and a half years as Orochimaru's fun buddy and everything about him couldn't prove them truer.

Of all the places,” her thoughts wandered. At the time, Hinata was dusting the ugly painting above their bed, one that Sasuke had picked out of a hundred masterpieces, and looked down, checking for dust on the bed head. Instead she found the spicy underwear snagged on a splinter behind the headboard, making this Thursday morning extra special. Needless to say she was surprised. There was no way she'd wear such shameless panties! But her real problem was damage control. His actions shamed both of their clans and to do it with no less than a tramp wearing crotch-less panties was ticking her off. How could he be so thoughtless?

Within the minute, Hinata had come to the logical conclusion of divorce. There was no way she could stay with him, now that he'd gone and done .. it … again. She'd been foolish the first time but Hinata learned from her mistakes. But just because she could justify it didn't stop her from panicking.

How do I explain this to my father? He'd be so ashamed of me,” she thought. Ashamed was an understatement. He'd be pretty dumbfounded when he found out that the man of his dreams, no her dreams, was as much of a weasel as his older brother. Then he'd insist that she get a stiff upper lip and stick it out no matter what it cost him, and her.

“But they'll have to understand,” she said uncertainly to the walls. She couldn't stand the thought of people thinking bad things about her and throwing her dirty looks. It wasn't as if she'd done anything wrong!

“But they'll have to understand,” she repeated more forcefully, hoping she'd believe it.

Hinata felt the tears building up behind her eyelids and thought of her girls practicing with their team. Eleven years ago she'd given birth to Miyuki and Mayako, identical twins that complimented each other perfectly. Having two bloodline limits made them special but the way they thought for one another made them unique. Their eyes, an unexpected swirl of white and black, were hypnotizing in their own right, but wicked when activated. Two such beautiful girls didn't deserve this. They didn't deserve the gossip they'd hear at the academy, the whispers behind their back. Obviously, Sasuke wasn't the best father but they didn't deserve to lose the only one they had. Lord knows he'd disappear the minute the divorce was final.

But,” Hinata thought, “They are so strong and they have each other. They could handle this.” And so, feeling the resolve build up in her bones, Hinata put the underpants in a Zip-Loc bag, locked it in one of her desk drawers, and went to visit her very best friend Sakura.

As she was leaving, Hinata inadvertently wrenched open her door, misplacing some of her anger on the poor slab of wood, only to find her second surprise of the day, standing on her porch all blond hair and blue eyes, his tan hand fisted and poised to knock on her door. Instantly, her slightly scrunched face turned into a radiant smile. After so long an absence, Naruto was the last person she would have expected to show up on her porch but just seeing his face elevated her mood. The anger in her was being shoved out by an ardent wish for him to light up her world again and make all the Sasuke-related darkness disappear.

What the hell am I thinking?” Hinata raged. She suddenly realized that everything she was thinking was utterly retarded and her smile faded. She hadn't seen him in over a decade. Wasn't this supposed to go differently? Shouldn't there be some kind of wind blowing her hair around and shouldn't he be looking like he'd rode through hell on a bicycle to come see her? Besides, he wasn't even smiling back at her. He looked like he was struggling between elation and severe unhappiness as he took in more than just her smiling face. Hinata's mind came back to her surroundings and she realized that Naruto was knocking on Sasuke's door, looking for Sasuke, thinking that no one but Sasuke would be there. Instead, he found his ex-girlfriend wearing a giant rock on her left ring finger. His eyes fell down to her rings and realization took him for a ride. These rings could come from no one else but Sasuke, with all their multifaceted shine, and these shining testaments of his “love” were so definitively a curse that Naruto's face shifted to severely unhappy and stayed. It deflated her own happiness to see him look at her that way.

Naruto shoved his hands in his pockets and said stiffly, “Hello Hinata-san, I was looking for Sasuke, is he home?”

Sasuke, that son of a bitch! “No, he's not,” Hinata replied, matching his stiffness.

Naruto was clearly just as pained about her current situation in life as she was and this conversation was going nowhere. They were each so wrapped up in their own thoughts that they couldn't be bothered to make small talk. Hinata stood there staring at his whisker-like markings, avoiding his eyes, and meditating. He was acting as though she'd betrayed him. He left her. He'd be a jackass to think that she should have waited for him. He was the one who'd given everything up and hightailed it out of her life. So why was she on the receiving end of his blown face?

“Listen, today's not the best day and I was just leaving so …”

Naruto took the hint and said a little good bye to her chin before sprinting away.

As soon as Hinata explained what was happening, from the crotchless panties to divorcing her donkey-husband, she felt the bile rise in her stomach. The first Hyuuga to get a divorce. Ever. This was big news. Big bad news. Hinata could just see the disappointed faces of her father and all those old Hyuugas. She couldn't believe some of those old fogies were still alive. But, of course, Hyuugas kept kicking until the Reaper himself promised them candy. Hinata imaged the Grim Reaper getting impatient and waving lollipops and cakes with his whithered hands, saying, “This way, this way. I've got more candy inside just walk into the white light, PLEASE!” Her thoughts subsided as she looked up at Sakura. Her friend was comtemplating her reflection in the meat cleaver in her hand, looking fairly dangerous. Sakura firmed her grip on the handle and asked in an oddly calm voice, “Where's Sasuke?”

“I don't know …” Hinata answered, eyeing the cleaver.

“Luck-y,” Sakura muttered and thwacked the cleaver into the board at an interesting angle. She did her female version of the Good Guy Pose and said with a twinkle in her eye, “When I find him, he's getting a steaming bowl of pain for all the bull he thinks he can get away with just because he's an Uchiha! Uchiha my ass!”

Hinata narrowed her eyes suspiciously. Sakura was short tempered but this was something more than the usual. There was something particually vicious about her words that had Hinata wondering. She was sitting in Sakura's kitchen watching her cook. This wouldn't be out of place at all excepting that Sakura didn't cook. She let Lee, her husband, do all the cooking. In fact, she let her eighteen year old daughter, Sayuri, get all her bridal training from her grandmothers. All Sakura could do was make tea.

“What .. are you doing?” Hinata questioned.
“What?”
“You're cooking.”
“And?”
Hinata gave her a meaningful look that said, “Cut the crap.”
Sakura put a floury hand on the hip of her apron and said, “We're not here to talk about me. We're here to talk about your manwhore of a husband.”
Again, her voice was nasty. “Is there something I'm missing?” Hinata asked, “You seem more upset than I would have pictured.”
“You don't seem nearly as upset as you should be,” Sakura countered. “Don't tell me you've changed your mind. You have no reason to stay with him!” She lifted her fingers and started ticking off the aforementioned reasons. “You don't love him, he's cheated on you again and he doesn't deserve you.”
“But what about-“
“The twins? They have eachother and their friends. They can take care of themselves. You need to take care of you.”
“Thanks for that. I think I just needed to hear someone else say it. Can I send the girls over here later? You know, in case things get .. bad.”
“Definantly, I'm sure (Mel) and Sayuri wouldn't mind spending some time with the girls. Hey, you wont believe who I saw today!”
“Naruto.” Hinata said as a matter of fact. Who else could it be?
“So he came to see you, too? He was in a hurry but it was so great seeing him after thirteen years! But, your face doesn't look too happy. What's up?”
“I couldn't help getting the feeling that he thought I had betrayed him.”
“Maybe it was because you married his ex-best friend?”
“Either way you look at it, I can't be bothered with Naruto. I have to go find Sasuke so I can neuter him.”
“That's the spirit!”

Neutering Sasuke was a beautiful thought. She kept this on her mind all the way to the training grounds and for the walk home with Miyuki and Mayako. They could each see the familiar sight of the big, gate-enclosed, house on the hill that was their own. Since Sasuke came back, he had made a name for himself and a career. He reopened the (Uchiha part of town), reinstated the Military Police, and refurbished the homes and businesses of his late relatives. This all brought in just enough money to provide for the family and keep up appearances. But as they looked at the appearance of their home, they noticed something was different. Their eyes focused on the large cloud of smoke coming from a gaping hole in the second story. Each of their faces became serious as they raced home, their ninja instincts taking over. Hinata, Miyuki, and Mayako stood on their fence and analyzed the wreckage, wondering about how it happened. Hinata was the first to recognize exactly which room was hit and her face contorted as another cherry was added to her bad day sundae. That room was her office, her sanctuary, the one place she could get away from her jackass husband. Now it was nothing more than a junky room with a kick ass AC. She could see her desk, rammed against the door, was miraculously still in one piece. Rembering the panties within, Hinata breathed a sigh of relief which she promptly sucked back in when the one and only Uchiha Sasuke appeared next to her on the fence. She was overwhelmed with the urge to rearrange his face.

Even though the Godaime had sealed away most of Sasuke's abilities, Hinata found it curious that he could still sneak up on her. Even though she was surprised, Hinata's anger welled up again and couldn't be derailed. She grabbed him by the collar and dragged him into the wreckage of her office. Completely forgetting that her children were watching, she ripped her desk drawer open, retrieved the incriminating, crotchless panties and shoved them in Sasuke's face.

“Whose are these?!” She demanded rubbing the underwear, plastic bag and all, deeper into his face. Hinata did not expect to be this angry, but why shouldn't she be? She'd given him her everything since she was seventeen and children, heirs, since she was eighteen. Now she was twenty-nine and he was still an ungrateful clown and Hinata had had more than enough.
