The Chunin Exam: The Phoenix Unleashed
------------------------------------------------------
“Hinata chan, Ganbate-o!” Tamiko cheered as everyone cleared the arena for the next match to begin.
Hinata sighed silently. Glad I didn't get paired up with Naruto kun. Without Kin's healing ability, she would have been dead. She took a look at her hooded opponent at the other end. I have a feeling Sakte isn't going to be easy as well.
The examiner announced both participants and gave the signal.
“Begin”
Suddenly, a gush of wind blew across the stadium. Neither Hyuuga nor Sakte moved, despite the obvious dust that's now in the air. Both maintained eye contact. As if in coherency, both had the same thought.
What unpleasant eyes.
The Hyuuga had white orbs with a slight taint of grey in it. Byakugan wasn't activated. Hinata wanted to analyze the enemy first. No doubt, unlike the Sharingan, Byakugan has no limits. However, in order to maintain a stable amount of chakra at the eye will become quite burdensome when extended too long.
Sakte's eyes weren't white, red, blue or green. Their unpleasantness came from the fact that it was colorless. Like pure water.
Hinata looked around to see the rest of the wind shinobi outside the arena, they were smiling.
This guy must be good. Hinata resumed eye contact. She used her most emotionless eyes.
She has no emotions. I can't read her. Even if there were any, I can't see them. She's definitely going to be troublesome. Sakte still had his hood on. This was his chance, to redeem the Hidden Sand: To defeat a Konoha Hyuuga. He cannot fail.
The crowd begun to stir.
“What are they waiting for?”
“When's it going to start?”
Some begun throwing empty cans and garbage towards the contestants. One particular can headed straight towards Gibiki's head. Hinata's eyes let out a glint of emotion as the can fell. Gibiki saw it. Got cha. He held his hands apart and a gush of wind reflected the falling can heading towards Hinata.
Hinata bent to the said avoiding the can. You can't hit me with that. Hinata smirked. Yuu constantly reminds her not to let her emotions take over. Being over confident is one of Hinata's biggest flaws.
Instantly, as if upon reflex she launched a dozen kunai towards her opponent. She leaped in advance, perceiving that he would use wind to deflect them.
He didn't.
He dodged them with two kunais, and took on a few hits on his arm.
He's weak. Hinata thought confidently. She launched forward to use Juken. This will finish him off.
Big mistake.
As she drew closed, Gibiki made a few hand seals and summoned a tornado, with that, Hinata was sucked in.
The tornado was embedded with chakra, freezing her body from moving. It tide of the wind brought her higher into the sky. What seemed like five hundred feet in a high speed current.
“Is she going to make it?” Yuu was quite shocked to see Tamiko doubtful of Hinata's strength. At that point, he wasn't too sure himself. She did become over confident. He simply placed a hand on his subordinate's shoulder taping it twice.
“You'll see”
I must get out but his chakra is completely immobilizing me. Wait, its chakra.
Hinata concentrated her chakra and spread them with balance over her entire body.
“Byakugan”
As the tornado abruptly stopped, Hinata was left dangling in the air for a few seconds then begun to free fall downwards. The audience gasped hoping that they didn't see a beautiful girl get smashed into a million bloody pieces.
As the black haired figure fell from the sky, people didn't expect her to escape. Some even turned their glances towards the Kazekage after recalling a certain `rescue'. Sand and Leaf would not want another war. It would be bad for both villages.
Suddenly, a bright white light radiated from her body. Behind her back, two chakra bird wings formed behind her back. They were shining with a blindingly bright white light. The wings disappeared as soon as Hinata's feet touched the ground. Gibiki held his hands up to shield his eyes. As soon as the radiance begins to fade he looked at his opponent. Her eyes were readable.
Evil.
Sakte gasped in horror, as he felt her intent to kill. They're white. Pure white. How can white be this unpleasant? What is she planning to do? Sakte struggled to hold his composure.
Hinata reached her right hand forward. At the upper arm, her seal was glowing white. Sakte froze. The White's chakra was too strong causing paralysis.
I can't move! Sakte screamed in his head.
The glowing white light streamed out from her seal and shot towards its prey with a blinding speed. The audience gasped in horror and screamed for him to move a way.
He couldn't.
I cannot die. Not here.
The white chakra hit its target with an explosive impact and immediately engulfed his arm then start swiveling around his body like a serpent. The sand shinobi screamed as the pain felt like a thousand needles piercing into his body all at the same time. The pain crept towards his body. The audience gasped, some held their breath as they watch for his escape. He didn't.
Hinata's eyes were evil. All who knew her understood.
That's not Hyuuga Hinata .It cannot be. No one wanted to admit that `that' creature was once a caring and timid person who loved others more than herself.
Minutes ticked away as Sakte's screaming continued. Slowly, the white chakra begins to turn red. Blood red. The color of blood.
Hinata's eyes were emotionless. Upon seeing the blood, and hearing the screams of Sakte Gibiki, she didn't even blinked. The examiner was about to intervene when the wounded sand shinobi lifted his hand to stop him.
Eventually the once white chakra faded and retreated back to its master leaving a trail of blood.
“Not ready to give up yet?” Hinata smirked. Her smile dropped as she gasped. Over at the other side, Sakte's skin was pealing. The wounded and battered sand shinobi was hunched over. His skin begins to fall away, transforming into sand. He didn't have a single scratch on him.
“Never underestimate a shinobi of the sand” Gibiki yelled as the earth beneath them shook. Everyone felt the tremor. He made a few hand seals and the earth beneath Hinata begun to crawl op onto her body. That was what Hinata felt. In truth, she was sinking. The sand sunk in such rapid speed within seconds, she was buried under ground.
“Sabbak taisho”
The ground exploded leaving behind a huge crater. The audiences were speechless. The tournament had been too exiting. No one knew what was to happen next.
For a long moment, the ground stayed that way. The earth beneath showed no signs of movement.
“Hinata!” Tamiko yelled. Yuu held his student firmer. He wasn't too sure himself.
You better be alright. Yuu silently prayed.
He forgot. She was the phoenix.
A white light begin to shine from beneath the ground. Radiating unto the surface, the circular spot begun to grow.
“You just wont die will you?” Sakte yelled. His hood was already pulled back. He had a familiar red hair.
The shining spot on the ground exploded into the air, raining sand for twenty seconds. Then a bright radiance shone.
“Hinata!” Tamiko yelled.
She was glowing with white, she was held up in the air by wings of a bird.
“Foolish child. I cannot die.” Hinata said.
Sakte acted quickly by summoning a wave of sand that was avalanching inwards surrounding her. As he motioned for the sand to compress, Hinata smirked.
She lifted her hands and as the sand enveloped her, everyone held their breath.
The sand faded and fell to the ground but up there, on the air, she was still there.
The white chakra shield faded as she landed on the ground.
Many thought that the white chakra was meant to protect her, but in truth it is afflicting serious internal damage.
What do you want! Give it back to me. Stop it! Stop it!
Shut up child. You're weak body's to blame. Why did you call me from my sleep? Isn't it enough that you use `my' chakra now you common me!
The voice was beautiful, yet screeched in her mind. It sounded like a thousand high pitched voices screaming in her ear. It was painful.
Back at the arena, Sakte stepped back as the white chakra took form. It was a phoenix. A beautiful, majestic white phoenix. Her head shot up to the air and she extended her wings sending a gust of wind so mighty that shook the Kazekage. Sakte called up an amount of sand to form a shield of protection around him.
Tsunade motioned for ANBU's to take control, in case things get `more' out of hand. As long as no one gets killed, that'd be the best. Another war with the sand would not be healthy.
Go back! You are not to kill him! Hinata yelled in her mind. Even she could feel the tremor of The White's powers.
Who do you think you are child? I saved your life and this is how you repay me? Your ungratefulness will be the end of you once I finish with `this' trash. The phoenix opened her beak and headed towards the ball of sand on the ground.
“Gibiki!” the Kazekage stood up from his seat.
As the phoenix launched towards her prey, just seconds away from contact, it stopped.
The phoenix struggled as it begun to shrink and pulled back and away from her target.
“Kai!” Hinata held her hands to motion a dispelling of her seal. She shook and sweat flowed down her forehead as the phoenix faded into a formless white chakra and retreated back into Hinata's right arm.
She held her left shoulder as she screamed due to the pain caused by The White's reluctance.
“Sensei, Hinata's controlling The White. She passed the finale test!” Tamiko was jumping.
The screaming stopped and all traces of white chakra were gone. Controlled.
She hunched over and breathes heavily as she tries to remain consciousness.
I can't take it. With that she fell back wards closing her eyes. She expected the hard ground to take impact, however it never came. There she stood with a blanket of sand holding her half-way up. Gibiki was standing on the other end with a huge smirk on his face.
I don't care, do what ever you want. I'm too tired. She closed her eyes as the image begun to fade then slowly darkness took her.
Moments later she opened her eyes to find herself on her bed, in her room in the Hyuuga manor. A tap on the door.
“Come in” her voice was hoarse.
The door opened, allowing light to shine through. No one came in. She got up and went outside. There was a tree at the edge of the cliff where the sky was orange.
“Neji nii san” She called as she noticed his presence. That moment, she felt an arm around her. They were warm and strong. The sun was setting beyond the horizon and she shifted under his arms then suddenly shot back. Trying to pull away, she ended up with a gentle `shoosh'. He wouldn't let go.
“N-Neji nii s-san” she stammered. He laughed happily.
“I missed that”
“I'll never ever let you go again” With that whisper he pulled her closer towards him. She could feel the warm air from his breath. He leaned towards her and suddenly a blinding light over took her.
As her vision cleared, she noticed herself surrounded with four white walls. A dream. She sighs and tries to get up, only to yelp in pain.
There was a burden on her left leg. She turned to look at a browned haired bow drooling on her blanket.
“Itai! Itai!” Tamiko yelled as he shot up from his sleep holding his head. He gave her `the' look.
“You were drooling.”
“Ha ha! Serve you right Tamiko kun,” Over at the other side was Kin. She was bandaged at the head. Standing there looking at her team mate.
“Hey, I'm not the one who's endangered here. If it wasn't for your `safety' I can easily hurt you” Tamiko yelled back to his sister.
“Oh yea? I bet I can take you even with this all on me” She pointed to the bandages wrapped around her head.
Tamiko leaped over and launched for his sister causing the other bed to over turn and messing everything up. Hinata shook her head as Yuu shot into the room and tried to split them up. She suddenly recalled her dream. What was that all about? Her stream of thoughts was interrupted as more people barged into the door. Among them were Kina and Shino. Most of the rookie nine were there. All of them were congratulating her.
It took her a while to realize what they were saying. Sakura gently placed her hand on Hinata's lap.
“Sakte Gibiki gave up.” She smiled. Hinata's eyes widened.
“Why?” Hinata whispered.
“I don't know. Maybe you should ask him later.”
More conversations about The White and the battle went on. Hinata stopped abruptly as she remembered not asking an important question.
“How long have I been asleep?” Everyone looked at each other and saddnes filled their eyes.
“What happened? What's going on?”
“It's been almost two months now.” Kiba said.
Hinata couldn't see the big deal of her sleeping for two months. Although it was the longest she ever had been through, though she felt something was not right.
Her friends didn't let her get there as they came up with suggestions and theories about everything that relates to her. For the moment, she was glad for all the attention.
Slowly everyone left to resume their duties one by one. Kiba waited for Ino to finish her continual chatting before he leaved. Hinata smiled. They look good together. As the two reluctantly left she sunk into her bed as she slowly drifted into another sleep again. She was amazed at how she could have still felt sleepy after sleeping for two months. Then the thought returned. What happened within these two months? Suddenly, she recalled.
The Hyuuga Heiress. Tears filled her eyes as she remembered her dream. She never realized how much she actually loved him. Speaking of which, there was a gently tap on the door. The same frequency as the one in her dream.
“Neji” Hinata called.
“Hinata sama” Neji replied still standing at the door. His eyes were sad.
“How are you feeling?” Neji asked as he took the seat where Tamiko was on earlier.
Hinata closed her eyes. She didn't want to let him see her tear filled eyes.
Suddenly warm fingers held her chin and gently pulled. As she opened her eyes, a tear escaped her eye. Neji smiled as he wiped it away.
“Don't cry” Neji said as he held her gaze.
“I have something to tell you. Something I always wanted to say.” Both pair of grey orbs was quivering. Both wanted something that was impossible. Something she could never give. She turned away and pulled his fingers off. Neji shifted.
“You're the Hyuuga heir. Take good care of Hanabi.” Hinata said and refused to look at him.
“Hin_”
“You should leave nii san.” Hinata said still refusing eye contact. Her voice was cold and emotionless.
Moments passed before anyone took any action. Then Neji eventually got up. He walked to the door and as he looked back, Hinata was still looking away. The door silently shut behind him leaving a long stretch of deep silence until a nurse came in with dinner.
Hinata knew that what she did was for Hyuuga. Her mouth confessed disowns but in her heart, she was Hyuuga.
