Naruto Fan Fiction ❯ The Last Trip Home ❯ Chapter 1

Street lamps almost rusted through and ready to collapse at any given moment. It was unnerving to see the city, once full of life, so deserted and broken. Broken. The right word to describe how they felt inside.
Malice, arrogance, destiny. All shells to hide the marred soul. They were lost to the world but not to each other. The world didn't matter anyway… The only thing still remaining in life was the painfully true feeling of care, maybe even love.
“Love is not in my vocabulary.”
Reaching out to touch the word as if wanting some reassurance.
“That's why you need a memo.”
Voice almost cheerful, caressing the kanji of the word. The word always lingered there, never spoken, ever present between them.
As the car came to a stop, both stepped out. This is the place they once called home. The place of first meetings…

The church bell rang in the distance but it was irrelevant to the students running out of the school building; they only heard the chime of the school bell, the sound of freedom.
Black car parked in front of the school, a boy with a hair of the same color got ready to get inside. Something hard hit the back of his head.
“Hey Hyuuga!”
Fuming green eyes met with irritated white ones. A shoe. He had thrown a shoe.
“You were supposed to give me a ride home!”

………………………&# 8230;…….

Parents now long gone. No more rides home. This was the last one. Home was no longer. The familiar streets they still knew by heart were there but all the warmth was gone.
The whispering rock by the lake, it used to be surrounded by green forest. The trees were gone. The rock still stood by the almost dry lake, whispering to long gone times, telling long lost tales to anyone who took time to listen.

………………………&# 8230;

“I heard it! Gaara listen!”
“Neji… It is a rock. It can't tell you anything.”
“Have some faith now and shut up so I can hear!”

………………………&# 8230;………..

“You can't hear it, can you?”
“No… The sound is faint…”
This was the place they used to go. Their spot. Now it the meaning it once held had fainted, like the whispering of the rock. Meaning was dead and was no longer. Existences forgotten by the ones that meant the most. Time itself seemed to stop, stand still as the rain poured down. Weeping and mirroring the empty sorrow of the lost place because it was unable to cry for it's own sake.

………………………

“It's raining, look! Refreshing, isn't it?” The sudden rain was welcomed just in time before all dried during the heat wave.
“I much preferred the heat. I hate rain.”
“Let's go out.”
Dragged out in the warm rain by his more cheerful than usual partner, both now wet.
“I hate you, Hyuuga.”
“I hate you too, Sabaku.”
Kiss on the real word, gentle and warm like the rain.

………………………&# 8230;……………

The colors of the setting sun painted the now horribly marred scenery. None of the beauty or growth lingering in the view over the city. The cold stone they sat on was the only link to reality; the soul proof that this wasn't some twisted nightmare. Reality can hit hard if you pay no heed to it's call for too long… Live in your own head and you get trapped there forever. Live in reality too much and you forget that important escape route.

Men in white coats. White room, white walls, white doors. White. White. White.
“I don't belong here.” Supposed to be in my office, working for my family. Life is an empty hallway filled with office doors and job interviews. The stock is too low and the word program is not working. Need to fix that.
“Of course you don't.” Last night, heard it again. Murderous voice, red as blood and dripping with venom. Tried to rip it out but… It's no use, can't get to it. Always there! Don't want to be in my head anymore.

………………………&# 8230;………

When you finally reach the bottom there is no other way than up. Cut wings renewed and lost souls freed. This is the end. This is the beginning. A place where everything starts is also the place where everything comes to an end.
Finally.
Out of my head.
Out of my reality.
Free at last.

A/N: This was something I started writing in class and just had to get out of my system. It came out a bit more poetic and angsty but I'm pleased with it anyway. My first time writing this pairing…
