Chapter 1: The Princess
Hinata looked at the banquet in front of her, dazzled.
"A-All this is f-for me?" she asked her father. King Hiashi never did anything for his ill-favored daughter the princess. Hinata did have to take into account though that it was, after all, her sixteenth birthday. As the birthday celebrations began Hinata turned to her father. "W-Why all this? Did s-something happen?" she asked him.
"You know of Cardinal Nara right?" Hiashi asked her. She nodded, who HADN'T heard of Cardinal Shikaku Nara?
"Of c-course! How could I-I not have h-heard of my o-own father's advisor? I-I'm not as d-dull witted as y-you think I a-am!"
"Let me finish! This banquet is in honor of a bethroal."
"For whom?"
"You. You're to be wed to Shikaku's son, Shikamaru."
"H-How come I w-was not told o-of this until j-just now?" Hinata asked him, outraged.
"Hinata what have I told you?"
"Royals m-marry for power n-not love."
"Ah yes, Shikamaru." Hiashi said as Shikamaru walked up.
"Hiashi-sama, Hinata-sama." Shikamaru said respectfully.
"Hello S-Shikamaru." Hinata said to Shikamaru quietly.
"Hiashi-sama, may I speak to your daughter privately?" Shikamaru asked Hiashi.
"Unchaperoned?" Hiashi asked him. He nodded.
"Yes sir."
"Alright. Go Hinata."
"Yes sir." Hinata said to her father and followed Shikamaru out of the grand dining hall.

"I don't like you." Shikamaru told Hinata.
"I-I don't like y-you either." Hinata replied. "I d-didn't even know a-about this until t-today."
"Oh?"
"Yes, can y-you keep a s-secret Shikamaru?"
"Sure, why not?"
"I l-love someone."
"So? We all love someone."
"You d-don't get it. H-He's a peasent."
"A what?"
"A-A peasent."
"Hinata! Your father will be mad!"
"I k-know but just a-as long as I-I'm in love i-it doesn't matter."
"Wow Hinata you never struck me as one to feel like that."
"A-Are you going t-to tell anyone?" Hinata asked Shikamaru.
"No, but out of curiousty, how do you plan on seeing this peasent of your's?" Shikamaru asked her.
"I-I intend on s-sneaking out tonight."
"Well good luck then."
"T-Thank you."
With those last words the two walked back into the dining hall. Right before they walked in Shikamaru grabbed Hinata's arm.
"Hinata, you know we'll probably end up getting married right? I'm sorry it has to be like this." Shikamaru asked Hinata.
"I k-know, and I'm s-sorry to." Hinata replied.
