Naruto Fan Fiction ❯ The Trials of Life ❯ Kohana Megumi Nyoko Uzumaki ( Chapter 1 )
[ Y - Young Adult: Not suitable for readers under 16 ]
Author's Note: All right, quick summary on this new fan fiction of mine. First off, Naruto's mother will be an oc. An original character made up by me. Reason why I don't pick someone already in the Anime/Manga is because I have my doubts whether or not they have any relation to Naruto. The only person I have related to Naruto is Arashi, the Fourth Hokage (Yondaime). Also, it's not for certain that his name is Arashi. Recently they said it was Kayaku. Nothing is for certain yet. I prefer Arashi, even if Kayaku makes more sense. Any who, please note that the story I've written is my own ideas as to what Naruto's past could have been like, before he was born. It's a what if. Nothing I'm about to write has been proven, and I highly doubt my version of history is even true. Also, regarding Arashi… it has not been proven that he is Naruto's father. I just assumed he'd fit best in the story plot… and they do look a lot alike…
Disclaimer: I don't own Naruto. If I did, I'd be stinkin' rich, and giving off spoilers. I do, however, own my oc, who is Naruto's mother in this story. I also own any unproven theory, which I use in this story. For example, Naruto's clan and its history, is made up by me, therefore I own the idea. The family members, the customs, and anything else I wish to include. Because of that, this story will be slight AU.
Chapter Events:We find out about Naruto's mother, who she is, where she comes from, and what relations she has towards the characters in the series.
----------------------------------------------------------------- ---
“KOHANA MEGUMI NYOKO UZUMAKII!!!!” An angry and loud voice yelled across the field. The voice belonged to a young, angry Anko. Puffing, little Anko held her neck as she bent over. Where on Earth was Kohana?! Never before had she used her full name. Usually, the Uzumaki's and most other clans never bothered to give a child more than one name, besides their surname. Kohana, on the other hand, was special. She was unlike the others, and so they gave her several names. Kohana Megumi Nyoko Uzumaki. Pretty long, eh? Three names besides her surname. It often drove Anko nuts, for she never knew what to call her when she was frustrated. When that happened, she couldn't remember any of her three names, for anger quickly took over. She referred to her as “Uzumaki” instead. Today, however, was different. She called her by her full name, because something important was about to happen.
Panting, Anko began to run again, like she had been for the previous three hours. All in search for that little blonde troublemaker. Growling like the mad dog she was, Anko yelled once more. “KOHANA!!!!! COME OUT ALREADY!!!” She was soon out of breath; yelling her name so much would do her bad. Groaning, after receiving no response yet again, Anko sat down on the grassy field. She pulled her knees up to her chin, and held her arms over her legs. She rested her chin on her knees, as she then closed her eyes. Maybe she could rest for a while, since Kohana was obviously not responding…
Obviously? I don't think so…
“Yo.”
Looking up instantly, Anko met a pair of big, electric-blue eyes, golden, wavy blonde hair that was kept in a loose ponytail, and a pair of red painted lips. She couldn't help but feel slightly jealous at her best friend's beauty, yet she kept her cool. Almost…
“KoHANA!” Anko yelled, making sure to stretch the “Hana” part. “Where have you been all day?! I've been looking for you for the past-“
“-Three hours. I know. I've been keeping track of time…” Kohana grinned, her perfect-tooth grin. Otherwise known as the “Good guy” grin. Or “Good girl” grin, however you wish to recognize it as.
Anko scoffed, loudly, and then stood up. Lucky for her, she was at least two inches taller than Kohana.
“What. Ever.” She crossed her arms, glaring dangerously at the young blonde before her. They were the same age, yet Anko was always taller… That was the only advantage she had on Kohana. They were both nine years old, Anko about a month older than she, but Anko was still only a chuunin. Today, Kohana was officially a Jounin, an elite ninja.
Blinking, Kohana quirked a brow, placing her hands on her hips, and leaning to the side slightly, while also slightly cocking her head to the side.
“Anyway… Why were you chasing me?”
Anko scoffed, yet again.
“Isn't that obvious? You're a Jounin today! Kohana-Chan, I thought you were more responsible than this! You were supposed to meet with the Hokage an hour ago…” Anko looked down at her, and then met her eyes again. “And you're not even dressed properly!”
Kohana merely rolled her eyes. She looked down at herself, her lips forming a slight smirk. She'd always been quite a rebel, never truly paying attention. Kohana had always managed to pass all her classes, without even paying attention. The reason was, even though she never participated and because she never paid attention, was never on the same page as everyone else. Kohana had read and memorized, word for word, every textbook ever given to her. She thought, if she already read and knew everything, why should she care? Because of that, she always managed to pass exams, and her presentations were always 100% mastered to perfection. Yet, she always acted as if she didn't care. She probably didn't.
“Anko, dearest… the outfit required for the Jounin Recommendation Ceremony was ever so big on me! I simply couldn't wear it. Therefore, I am wearing this second-best outfit. You like?” Throughout her little speech, her voice had a sarcastic ring to it.
Anko narrowed her eyes at Kohana, then she placed her own hands on her hips, matching Kohana's pose.
“No. Your outfit is not second best to the required outfit! Kohana, I can practically see your breasts,” which were too large for her age, “and I highly doubt the Hokage, or any other official for that matter would appreciate it. The skirt's too short, too… you look like a prostitute!”
Kohana didn't look like it mattered.
“I'll have you know, that I know quite a few prostitutes who are very well-mannered and not complete sluts, like you're thinking. Besides, I'm the one who's becoming a Jounin. Why should you care?”
That stung. Anko seemed to be at a loss of words.
“I-I…” she lowered her head, and made her hands into fists. “You're right. Why should I care?”
With that said, she turned to leave.
Kohana frowned, widening her eyes slightly.
“Anko-Chan! Come on. I was only… kidding.” Sighing, Kohana lowered her head. “Look, it's great that you care. But, you know me! I'm a damn lazy bitch!” At that, she looked up, giving a sly grin.
Anko turned back around, a small smile on her face. It was because of this why Anko still hung around Kohana, even when she would always be second best around her. Kohana was a great friend, and Anko wasn't about to give her up.
“Aha! See, you're smiling! I knew you'd understand.” Kohana walked towards the direction Anko was headed off to, “Hurry up Anko! I don't want to be much more late to my Recommendation ceremony.”
Anko rolled her eyes, and then she nodded. Together, they walked to the Hokage's Tower.
----------------------------------------------------------------- ---
Upon reaching the Third's tower, the two young girls were filled with excitement. Especially Kohana. She'd never admit it though, but secretly, she'd been waiting for this day forever. The day she became an official elite ninja.
“-And it is to my great honor that I congratulate you,” The third looked towards the two newcomers. Along with him, every other person present in the Ceremony looked as well. “My, my… it seems our missing ninja has arrived. Kohana, please, take your seat.”
Grinning, Kohana walked over to her seat in the front row, right after giving Anko a trusting wink.
Anko also took a seat, in the back row where the guests resided.
“As I was saying,” the Third continued, “I am honored to congratulate you three young, Chuunin ninja, to the higher rank of Jounin ninja. Yukio Takanawa, Aki Uchiha, and Kohana Megumi Nyoko Uzumaki.” After saying her name, the other two boys gave a small chuckle. “You are now recognized, and forever will be recognized as Jounin ninja of Konoha.”
After his speech, the three now-Jounin ninja bowed, giving their respect. Soon after, all the attendants clapped followed by several whistles and words of congratulation.
Sighing, Kohana made her way back to Anko. On her way, she could hear a few whispers. People saying things such as Look at her, she doesn't deserve to be Jounin! She has no respect at all! Or Look at her clothing. Wannabe slut. She also heard several young ninja saying things such as Kohana? That's way too similar to Konoha! Isn't she weird? She'd heard this several times before, and many other rude comments. Why people insulted her so much, she didn't know. But it hurt, even if she held it all inside. Suddenly, she was given a hug. She hadn't realized she had already reached Anko.
“Congrats! You're a true Ninja now!” said Anko, as she gave her the hug of death.
Kohana chuckled, and returned the hug. At least her best friend didn't treat her like the others…
Anko let go of her, grinning like a Cheshire cat.
“I have quite a lot of catching up to do with you, Kohana.” She turned, all of a sudden, switching her gaze to a nearby boy with spiky blonde hair. A light blush came upon her face.
Blinking in confusion, Kohana turned to look in her direction. She quirked a brow.
“Who's he?”
Anko blinked, furiously, and shook her head.
“H-Huh?”
Kohana looked back at her, the same amount of confusion in her face.
Anko kept blinking. It took her a while to realize what she meant.
“Oh! T-The boy…” She turned to look at him again, her mouth slightly open.
Kohana quirked a brow again, but decided not to push it. She looked back at the boy, and noticed he was talking to someone. A tall, masculine, handsome man with wild, long, white hair. They were an odd pair… She also noticed that the boy seemed to be around their age, if not just a couple of years older. Surprisingly, she didn't notice the fact that the boy resembled the average Uzumaki…
“Arashi.”
Blinking, Kohana looked at Anko.
“Huh?”
“H-His name… it's Arashi. Arashi Uzumaki…” Anko seemed to be in a tranquil heaven of her imagination now, for she remained speechless after saying his name.
Smirking, Kohana turned to look at him again. “Is that so? Well now, let's investigate further more, shall we?”
Anko gasped. “Kohana, no!”
Kohana blinked, raising a brow at Anko's sudden change of mood.
“Why not? You like him don't you?”
Anko blushed furiously.
“No! O-Of course not… it's just, we can't just walk up to him and say `Hello, how are you?'…Kohana?”
Too late. Kohana had already walked over to him. Upon reaching him, she smirked.
“Hey.”
Blinking at the new voice, the boy known as “Arashi” turned to look at her, a clueless expression on his face. Suddenly, he gave a smirk of his own. “Kohana Uzumaki? Am I correct?”
Kohana grinned, not noticing the sudden death glares and shocked gazes Anko was giving her.
“Correct. And you, Arashi Uzumaki?”
He kept his smirk, cool and comforting.
“That's right. Tell me, Ms. Uzumaki-“
“-Kohana.” She interrupted.
“Alright… Kohana. What do I owe the pleasure of meeting with the Uzumaki Heiress?” He made sure to sound out her name.
Kohana smirked, once more.
“Oh, nothing. Just came over for a friendly chat, is all…”
He quirked a brow, in the same fashion she does.
“I highly doubt that.”
This surprised Kohana. She blinked, trying to understand his words. Had he just mocked her? Accused her of lying? She glared, narrowing her eyes as much as she could.
“Oh, really? Well, have you noticed that I'm a Jounin? An elite ninja? I hope you realize I can-”
“-Kick my ass?” He finished for her.
She blinked, again.
“Well, I'm also a Jounin, Ms. Uzumaki. I have been for three years. By the way, I'm eleven. That means I became Jounin at eight. You're only nine, am I right?”
Kohana was practically fuming with rage by now.
“Why you-”
“Ahem.”
The two looked up at the white-haired ninja beside them. He happened to be watching and listening carefully to their argument, with much interest.
“Look, you two… we don't need a fight. Arashi, go back to your teammates.”
Arashi nodded, knowing he could never complain to his sensei. No matter how much of a pain he was…
“Alright.” The man looked at Kohana. “Kohana-“
“-Ms. Uzumaki.”
“Err… Ms. Uzumaki, please try not to harass my student in the future. I would much prefer him to be alive for his Hokage training.”
She blinked, eyeing the strange man curiously.
“Hokage training? Tsk… you're training him to be Hokage? You do realize that a Hokage is-“
“-The strongest ninja in all the village. I know, I know… Arashi may be cocky at times, but he has a good heart, and much determination. Do not judge by first acquaintances. He is intelligent, caring, strong-willed, determined and so much more. You must see past his boyish attitude.”
Kohana had her eyes widened and her mouth slightly opened, as she turned to look at the young ninja. He's… so much like me. She thought. Her gaze softened, as a small smile appeared on her lips.
The man smirked, and placed a hand on her shoulder.
“That's him, alright. Arashi Uzumaki, future Hokage of Konoha. He will accomplish his goals.”
“Not if I accomplish them before him.”
This shocked the man, and he looked down at her. The same goals? Who would have guessed? He couldn't help but smirk.
“Very well, I suppose that's true. I'm Jiraiya by the way.”
She looked up at him, eyes wide.
“Jiraiya? One of the three legendary-”
“Yes. That Jiraiya. Don't sound all surprised, I only just receive that title a few years ago. I doubt I should be considered anything near a legend, just yet…”
Kohana smiled, nodding.
“It was a pleasure to meet you, Jiraiya-sama. Tell your student I wish him good luck.” With that said, she walked away.
Jiraiya kept a small smile on his face, as he watched her leave. That girl, is the next Tsunade…
----------------------------------------------------------------- ---
On leaving the Hokage's Tower, Kohana realized that Anko had long left the Ceremony. She wondered why, and if it had to do with herself.
Sighing, she continued walking down the path that leads to her house. Her parents had missed her ceremony, which didn't surprise her at all. They were always too busy with other things, never truly concentrated on her. It was always the clan this, and the clan that. It was never about Kohana. Never about herself.
She did her best to ignore it, but she couldn't help but feel lonely at times, knowing her parents would always think of her last. It wasn't that they didn't love her; it was just that they were too busy with her older brother, Saki. Saki wasn't as clever as her, or as strong. He'd never even accomplished what she had at this young age. Yet, her fifteen-year-old brother was considered the first-born. The one even more special than she. He was not chosen as the clan heir; she was. Yet, they treated him as if he were a god.
Shivering slightly, Kohana held her arms with her hands, feeling a bit cold. It was near 50 degrees out, and she wasn't wearing anything for the cold weather.
Sighing, she stopped walking suddenly, feeling a presence comes from behind her. Narrowing her eyes, she quickly turned around and jumped on the unknown person, straddling him to the ground.
“Who the hel-” She stopped talking, eyes widened.
Arashi was laughing now, and then he smirked.
“Wow. You sure have good defense…”
Blushing, she quickly stood up, off of him.
“W-Were you following me?”
He shrugged.
“Depends on how you look at it. This is the Uzumaki Clan section, and I am an Uzumaki. Therefore, I do live around here. So, yes, I guess I was following you… but not intentionally.”
She groaned, sick of his “Matter-of-fact” tone.
“Yeah, yeah… whatever. Hey, have you by any chance seen Anko around?”
He blinked, as he stood up, brushing dirt off his clothing.
“Anko? You mean, that friend of yours from back there?”
“Yeah, that's her…”
He shrugged.
“I thought she left while you were talking to me. In quite a hurry, may I add?”
She quirked a brow. Oh no. She forgot, that Anko liked Arashi. Her flirting with him wasn't exactly making Anko happy.
“Uh… I gotta go. See ya!” Then, she ran away, heading out of the Uzumaki Section, and going for Anko's home.
Arashi merely watched her go. Strange girl… nice legs, though.
----------------------------------------------------------------- ---
Panting, Kohana reached Anko's house. She knocked on their door, patiently.
Anko opened the door, and quickly narrowed her eyes.
“Oh. It's you… what do you want?”
Kohana merely gaped at her.
“Anko? What the hell? Why did you walk away…?”
Anko scoffed, leaning against the doorframe.
“Why were you flirting with the boy I like?” Boy, was she straightforward.
Kohana sighed, shaking her head.
“It was a friendly conversation, nothing more!”
She scoffed, again.
“Yeah right. What is it with you? Always taking what I want? You have everything I want, and you keep taking more! What the fuck?!”
Kohana was speechless.
“Anko… d-don't say that… you don't mean that.”
“Yes. I. Do.”
“Excuse me,” A new voice was heard. Anko and Kohana turned to look at the man standing behind Anko. “Anko-Chan has training to do. If you'll excuse us…” He had long, thick black hair. He had high cheekbones, and a Snake-like figure. Lean, tall, and well muscled. He was gorgeous, if not for the look that clearly read, “I'm insane” across his face.
“And, you are?” Questioned Kohana.
The man narrowed his eyes, slightly. Yet, Anko answered for him.
“My new Sensei. Orochimaru-Sama… He came today, to pick me up. We're leaving tomorrow morning…”
Kohana widened her eyes.
“L-Leaving? Where are you going?”
“That is none of your concern.” Said the Snake-man, as he shut the door.
Kohana was left speechless. Why hadn't she said anything? Did Anko not care, that Kohana would be so devastated of her sudden news? She was, indeed, devastated. She began to cry, silent tears.
She lowered her head, and walked back home. Without a friend.

Author's Note: Well, that's the end of the first chapter. What did you think? Please review. But do note, that I'm more into writing this story for personal reasons, than for an audience. All though, a few comments would cheer me up.
Note/s:
Kohana means- Little Flower/ Flower Child.
Megumi means- Charity.
Nyoko means- A Precious Gem.
Also, do note that the story rating is M because of language. I will use the “F” word a lot. There will be sexual references later on, but noting too exploit. Also note that I'm not very familiar with Anko's past, or her age for that matter. So just go along with it. Please, understand this story won't end happy. It's mostly drama, and the ending is a cliffhanger. From there on, imagine what you wish to happen. About the Jounin Ceremony, I totally made that up. I really have no idea how it's supposed to go… so, yeah.
Another thing, if you wish to think of Kohana's appearance, think a young Tsunade, with a larger chest, Naruto's big blue eyes, yet with a seductive feature. And, wavy blonde hair. Her lips aren't like Tsunade's either; they're more along the lines of cherry red.
Also, (Yeah too much AN's eh?) I'm not too aware of Arashi/Kayaku's personality. Mostly, I thought “A clever Naruto”. Or, “Naruto with some Sasuke”. So, forgive me if he's not in character. Truth is, I don't even know his character as a child.
