This is my fight too!
Destruction of Konoha Begins!
“Lord Hokage!” called out Gai-sensei as he ran with Kakashi-sensei towards the smoke.
“Let us handle it!” interrupted the ANBU as they ran across the sections of sleeping spectators.
“So this is what they meant by their mission...” I assumed, preparing myself for battle. “Kankuro is going to pay double for this...”
I looked up and saw four ninja putting a up a purple field, which incinerated a foolish ANBU.
“They're not normal ninja,” stated Kakashi-sensei. “If they have out-maneuvered ANBU members.”
Kakashi-sensei, Gai-sensei and I ran forth, but were cut off again by an ANBU member.
“What are you doing?” Gai-sensei scolded. “Lord Hokage is in danger!”
The ANBU held his hands in some sort of seal, and Sound ninja leapt out of certain spectator's clothes. Four, to be exact.
“What a bummer,” complained Kakashi-sensei.
“I didn't expect an enemy to be disguised as an ANBU member,” admitted Gai-sensei.
“If you ask me, it's original for an idea.” I added. “Was he the one who used that Genjutsu?”
“Yeah. There's no doubt about it.” replied Kakashi-sensei.
Then I looked down, seeing Kankuro and Temari around Gaara.
”Seeing as you're two grown-up and very capable Jonin, you can handle this...” I told Kakashi-sensei and Gai-sensei, drawing a kunai knife. “But I have unfinished business.”
“Kitsune, wait!!” Sakura called after me, but I ignored her for now. It was my chance to avenge Suki. I leapt into the arena, landing between Sasuke and the Sand Team.
“Stop, Gaara!” Temari told Gaara.
“I'll kill you... !”
“There's no point in fighting him anymore!” protested Kankuro.
“Don't forget our mission!” reminded Temari.
“Your mission, huh?” I asked. “I don't know about him, but I haven't forgotten my mission! You owe me a fight, Kankuro. Right here, right now, fight me!”
“Get out of the way!” growled Gaara s he pushed through Temari and Kankuro.
“What are you three doing?!” asked the leader of the Sand Team. “The mission has started already.”
Gaara held his head in pain, screaming.
“Shut up! I'm here for Kankuro, so no one is leaving until he's DEAD!!” I shouted.
“I told you to leave me alone!” Kankuro shouted back.
I looked behind me, and Sasuke was there with the proctor.
“What in the hell is going on?” asked Sasuke.
Gaara fell to his knees, still in pain.
“Gaara!” exclaimed Temari.
“What's wrong?” inquired Kankuro.
“The wound is more serious than we thought. And he's used up most of his Chakra.”
“Fool.” Said the Sand Jonin. “That's what happens for trying to turn into the completely possessed form without waiting for the signal.”
“What should we do now?!” asked Kankuro. “You want us to do this without Gaara?”
“All of you, just shut up!!” I shouted, losing my temper. “I want to fight Kankuro!!”
“Be quiet, child!” snapped the Sand Jonin. “Gaara is the Sand's ace-in-the-hole. We must have Gaara fight no matter what. You three Temporarily get away from here, and treat Gaara's wounds. Once Gaara's Chakra recovers, we will resume the mission.”
“I understand.” Said Kankuro, picking up Gaara.
“What about you, Sensei?” asked Temari.
“I will stop these guys,” replied the Sand Jonin.
“You think you'll have it your way?” asked the proctor.
“I will make it happen.”
There was a silence, and then he continued.
“GO!”
Obeying, The Sand Team leaped away.
“Wait!” I yelled after them, then growled. I looked back up to where Kakashi-sensei and Gai-sensei were, they still had not moved in on the ANBU. I leapt back up there, landing next to Kakashi-sensei.
“What did I miss?” I asked.
“Nothing, really. You're just in time.” answered Kakashi.
Then, the Sound Ninja jumped at us. I leaped upwards and slashed one of the ninja across his chest, landing in front of Sakura. Turning around and crouching, I told her, “Don't worry. I've got your back.” She smiled, and I smiled back. I then fought off any who tried to come near her. Kakashi-sensei, Gai-sensei and Tokeru were doing extraordinary themselves.
Suddenly, Kakashi-sensei stopped.
“Sakura!”
Sakura looked up, and so did I.
“I'm glad I taught you about Genjutsu during survival training. You have talent in that area.”
”What?” she asked.
“Dispel the Genjutsu and wake up Naruto and Shikamaru. Naruto will be happy, it's his first mission in a long time.”
“Mission?”
“Proceed with caution. This is an A-rank mission, just like the one in the Land of Waves.”
Suddenly, another ninja jumped up and Kakashi took him out, knocking him in our general direction. He crashed into me, causing me to fall into the seat next to Sakura.
“Sensei! What do you mean by an A-rank mission in this situation? What are we supposed to do?”
“Sasuke went after Gaara of the Desert and the others. Sakura, dispel the Genjutsu from Naruto and Shikamaru... and go after Sasuke.”
“But if that's the case, I should wake up Ino and Choji to go in a bigger group... and bring Kitsune and Tokeru too!”
“There are already many Sound and Sand ninja inside the village. Movement with more than four people, a basic platoon, will result in a decrease in swiftness, and it will become more difficult to conceal yourselves from the enemy. You learned that in the patrol exercises at the academy, right?”
“Then let me come with them, Kakashi-sensei!” I requested.
“Sorry, Kitsune, but I've already chosen someone.“
“You, Kakashi-sensei?“ asked Sakura.
“No, I can't leave this place,” answered Kakashi-sensei as he performed hand signs, then placed his hand on a spectator's back. “Summoning Jutsu!”
After the smoke cleared, a dog was sitting on the seal that had appeared on the spectator's back. “Pakkun here will chase after Sasuke with his scent.”
“You chose a dog... over me?” I asked, confused at what a dog could bring to the platoon. Then the dog walked over to me and looked me in the face.
“Hey, Don't call me a cute dog.”
Staring at him, I thought, I never said `cute'...
“Okay, Sakura, dispel the Genjutsu and wake up Naruto and Shikamaru.”
“Okay.” obeyed Sakura as she went to wake up Naruto and Shikamaru.
“But, Kakashi-sensei-!!” I protested.
“Kitsune, my decision is made. Besides, I may need you to fight the rest of these Sand and Sound ninja.”
“Please allow me to aid you, Kakashi. As long as my team leader is okay with it.”
“Of course, Tokeru.” I replied.
Suddenly, I heard Shikamaru let out a yell. I looked behind and saw him trying to shake off Pakkun from his leg. Then a Sound ninja tried to attack Naruto, but was knocked back through a wall by Gai-sensei. Kakashi-sensei then followed.
“I'll explain your mission to you now. Once it's fully explained to you, go through that hole. Go after Sasuke, and once you meet up with him, stop him. Then await further orders in a safe area.”
“What happened to Sasuke?” asked Naruto.
“I'll tell you while we move.” Sakura told him, then grabbed him and leaped out the hole. Pakkun dragged Shikamaru along as well.
“Will they be okay?” asked Gai-sensei.
“Pakkun is with them, they'll be fine. If they don't pursue the enemy too far.”
I hid along a wall from them, then held my hands in the same way I did before coming to Konoha, and whispered, “Release.” My fox ears and tail grew back, allowing me to have my heightened senses of smell and hearing back. I then snuck out the hole, following Sakura's scent.
While I chased after them, I thought of how they would see me after they saw me in my true form. Would they fear me? Reject me? I decided to stay focused on their scent for now. I finally caught up with them as they were hiding their footprints.
“Did you guys really think you could manage without me?” I asked them. They all jumped, and Sakura screamed as she looked at me.
“Wha... Wha... What are those things on your head?!” she asked, obviously scared silly. I placed a hand on my left fox ear, feeling it.
“Oh, these?” I asked, and swished my tail as well. “And this? It's who I really am, Sakura... that's why my I'm called Kitsune.”
“I... I never thought of it that way.”
“But you don't think less of me, do you, Sakura?”
She stayed silent for a moment, then answered with a smile, “Of course not...”
“Hey!” Pakkun yelled at us. “If you lovebirds are done, we have a ninja to-...!”
“Find? Oh, you mean the one that's-”I interrupted, sniffing a bit for his scent, then continuing, “976 meters away aaaaand... That-a-way?” I asked, pointing to where I smelled Sasuke.
Everyone looked at me in awe, amazed at my sense of smell.
“Come on, he's getting away!” I exclaimed, then ran off in the trees on all fours, with Naruto, Sakura, Shikamaru and Pakkun following. Sakura began talking about ambushing the following Sound Ninja, but Shikamaru said it wasn't a good idea. He said that they were trained about this fight, so they knew the terrain.
“The enemy is a squadron organized specifically for this plan. As for us, we have an idiot, a kunoichi who has no specific traits, a dog, a half-fox person, and the number one coward, me. A strategy is devised by understanding the situation and creating the best plan for that situation. So, there's only one thing we can do right now.”
“One thing?” asked Sakura.
“A feint operation that looks like an ambush. One person will stay behind, set up things to look like an ambush, and stop them.”
“So... play the decoy?” I asked.
“Yes. If the person can stop them, they won't be able to get the location of the other three. Then we can lose the pursuers, but the decoy will most likely...“
There was a brief silence, and then he finished, “...die.” Everyone stopped on a limb, and the silence was much longer before Shikamaru spoke up.
“So, who wants to take the job? We can't send the dog or Kitsune, we need them to find Sasuke.”
“I'll-” I began.
“The only choice left is me.” Shikamaru interrupted.
“Shikamaru!' Sakura exclaimed.
“The only guy who can pull this decoy off perfectly and have a high chance of surviving within this group is me.” He continued as he leapt over to my branch.
“Look, I'm older than you guys, I've already lived what there is to live for in this life, let me go.”
“Don't you have a wife?” asked Sakura. I froze, not knowing what to answer.
“The Shadow Possession Jutsu was originally made to stop the enemy anyway. I'll catch up with you guys later. Hurry up and go.”
“We're counting on you, Shikamaru!” said Naruto. “Sakura...”
Sakura nodded, then looked to Shikamaru before hopping off through the trees with me, Naruto and Pakkun. I sniffed some more, then told the group, “Hey, guys, we're getting closer to Sasuke. His scent's growing stronger.”
“Huh?” asked Sakura.
“Do you really think Shikamaru's trying to fend off our pursuers?”
Sakura gasped.
“Did Shikamaru...”
“Shikamaru's gonna be fine.” Naruto contradicted.
“He didn't run away, did he?” she asked.
“I told you! He'll be fine, believe it!”
“How are you sure?”
“He's annoying, lazy, but he's no traitor. He rarely does things alone, but when he does, he'll do it all the way. I can guarantee that.”
“Let's pick up the pace, team!” I ordered, jumping even faster. Then, I began to lose a scent that had been nagging me. “The pursuers have stopped.”
“Yeah! He stopped them!” exclaimed Naruto.
“It must be Shikamaru!” assumed Sakura.
We continued for a while, until it was dark. Suddenly, I heard an explosion in the distance.
“What was that sound?” Sakura asked.
“Explosions,” I answered. “Probably traps for Sasuke.”
“Is Sasuke okay?”
“I don't know, but there's no reason to worry. After seeing him in that match, a few traps should be nothing for an Uchiha.”
“Yeah, you're right, believe it!” agreed Naruto.
