Chapter 2: Just Like Old Times

“The Tournament? It's this year?” Aya asked in surprise.

“Yep!” Ryu said nodding her head frantically. “That's why my brothers and sisters say I could come back.”

“That must be it!” Hiken said in comprehension. Hiken slammed her fist in her palm, saying “Otherwise you'll still be training and getting your ass kicked by Ken'ichi.”

Ryu frowned and stare angrily at Hiken. “I would not get my ass kick by Ken'ichi. FYI, I defeated him once…”

Aya blinked and then turned to Hiken. “She's lying.”

“Damn!” Ryu grumbled, “I forgot she has the Kandou!” Ryu turned back to Hiken and Aya with a pout. “Well, maybe I didn't necessarily beat him…”

“Please…never once have I ever seen you beat him. At this rate, you won't even be in the preliminaries.” Hiken said, crossing her arms and closing her eyes.

“You wanna say that again?!” Ryu yelled getting up and growling in Hiken's face.

“Are you deaf?! You heard me!” Hiken growled back. Ryu and Hiken's eyes glared at each other, electricity coming in contact with the other.

Aya laughed nervously, sweat dropping with a smile, waving her hands back and forth, saying “Come on guys. Ryu just came back; we should be celebrating not fighting.” Hiken and Ryu ignored her as they started to bicker with each other.

Aya just shook her head in amusement. `Just like old times.' Aya thought with a smile. Then Aya blinked and gasped. Aya blinked again as a mixture of green and blue shroud her vision. `Whose aura is…?' Aya narrowed her eyes as she realized whose aura this is.

Ryu froze in the middle of the argument as so did Hiken. They searched around themselves as Aya, Hiken and Ryu got back-to-back. Aya and Hiken started reaching for a kunai or senbon as they investigate the area around them.

“You guys feel that?” Ryu said critically, brushing back some of her hair and reaching for her ear. The two nodded as their grin grew into smirk and a scoff. Ryu smirked also and said, “I've been dieing to fight him.”

“Me too.” Hiken added. Ryu glanced at her side-ways in confusion. “When you left, he also left to visit other countries and meet the other Kages of the villages.”

“Really? Well, let's see if you learned something new, old man!” Ryu yelled as a man, maybe in his early 30, appeared in front of them.

He had black hair and sharp onyx eyes. Hidden by his dark hair was a red band hitia-ite, tied around his forehead. He had a red and white short sleeved cloaked over his dark blue long sleeved kimono except the sleeves weren't wide and huge but slim and tight. Around his waist was a white belt and around his right arm was a wrapped bandage. He wore the open-toe sandals and had two swords locked into his belt.

He grunted as he aimed a roundhouse kick to Ryu's hand so she wouldn't reach her ear, but she blocked it. He brought his other foot back up kicked Ryu's face, pushing her away from the group. She spun on her feet away from the group, as she wiped the smear of blood away from her mouth.

Hiken growled as she threw a handful of kunai and shuriken at the man who just put his fingers in the holes of the kunai and shuriken. Hiken's eyes widened as he send them back at her. She jumped back, barely dodging the kunai that nicked her shoulder blade. As she was in the air, he charged at her. She smirked as she was able to evade and dodged each punch he tried to land. She then grabbed both of his wrists and flipped him down to the ground. He cried out in pain as he dropped to the ground harshly. Hiken smiled as she flipped backwards towards Ryu. Hiken and Ryu high-five each other as they observed Aya.

The man quickly got up as Aya lunged after him, senbon in hand as she tried to stab the senbon in his chest. He easily caught her arm and threw her to the other two girls.

The man snickered like a child playing a prank and not wanting to get caught as the three ninjas angrily charged at him. The three cried a battle yell as they raised their fists, ready to punch him. The man grinned as did a few hand seals.

“Fire style: Burning Flame Spears Jutsu!” he yelled as his chest began to inflate. When he exhaled fire came out of his mouth. As the flames flew into the air, they morphed into spears. Hiken, Aya, and Ryu's eyes widened as they slid to a stop. Aya rolled to the ground as three spears flew right past her. She looked up and saw the three spears go straight through a tree and on going. When the spear went through the tree, the tree burst into flames.

Hiken jumped over the flames and made expert flips over them. She did a backward flip towards Aya as she covered Aya with her body.

“You ok, Aya?” Hiken asked as a burning spear flew right over her head.

“Yea, what about Ryu?” Aya said as they both looked over at Ryu.

As for Ryu, Ryu jumped over the flames and even stepped on them as she continued running to the man. `You think just that's gonna stop me, old man?! Think again!' Ryu performed a few hand seals.

“Secret Jutsu: Chi ball!” Ryu opened her palm and a ball of clear chakra-like chi gathered in her hand. She covered her other hand over it and yelled, “Chi Blast!” as the ball was thrown at the man, hitting him with full force. The man grunted in pain as he tried to shield himself from the blast. He slid backwards as his sleeves burned off of him. He put his arms down and grinned. Ryu slid to a stop as she rubbed her nose and smirked back.

“Wow!” Aya said in amazement. `When did Ryu learned to do that? I thought only Ryuho and Ryu-sama could do that!'

“I see you finally learned how to use the Chi Blast.” The man said finally during the battle. “I'm proud of you Ryu.”

“I'm proud too…” Ryu jumped up and yelled, “Sensei!” as she was about to slam her two fists onto her sensei's head. The sensei scoffed as he took out a small black bomb.

Poof

“What!” Ryu said in surprise as she covered her eyes. Hiken quickly rushed over as so did Aya as they helped Ryu out of the black smoke. The three coughed wildly as they tried to find their way out of the smoke.

“Aya!” Hiken yelled. “Find the way out!”

Aya searched and then saw the mixture of green and blue aura. She then grabbed both of them and headed to the aura. They all gasped for air as they fell to the ground in front of their sensei. Hiken rubbed her eyes and looked at Aya and Ryu. Ryu was trying to rub the ash and smoke out of her eye as Aya was slowly coming too, blinking to make sure her sight was clear.

Hiken looked up and gasp as she pushed Aya and Ryu away, who both yelped in surprise, and blocked the sensei's stomp. Hiken growled as her eyes darkened. She pushed her sensei's leg up, much to his surprise, and then landed a straight punch into his gut. He staggered and blocked the next punch to his face with his palm.

Hiken yelled, “Ryu!” as she kicked him hard in the side making him fly towards the now cleared eye, Ryu.

“Aya!” Ryu shouted as she punched him in the gut making him fall towards Aya.

“Hiken!” Aya screamed as she did a flip kick backwards, making the sensei fly upwards. Hiken smirked as she jumped and then stomped on the sensei's stomach and making him land on the ground, harshly. The force of the stomp made a crater and Hiken smiled victoriously up at Ryu.

“See? You're not the only one with a few tricks.” Hiken said proudly, Aya and Ryu pulling her out of the crater.

“I didn't think that it only took that much to defeat him.” Ryu said, confused. She scratched her head and said, “Last time, it took us all day to beat him, just because his chakra was low.” Ryu said raising two fingers and bringing them up and down as quotes. “I wonder why he didn't use his swords.”

Hiken rubbed her chin in thought and added, “You know, we were going pretty on him.” Hiken then smiled and said, “I guess we just miss him, that's all.”

They turned back to the hole, where the fallen sensei was. He was shuttering in pain as he tried to get out of the hole.

Aya's eyebrow rose as she put her hands in a hand seal. “Release!” she yelled. She shrugged and said, “Guess it wasn't a genjutsu.” Then Aya became worried and asked, “You think he's gonna be ok?”

“He'll be fine. He's just weak, is all.” Ryu said with a feminine snort.

“Think again!” a voice yelled. The three gasp as their arms, legs, and body froze.

“What the hell!” Ryu yelled as she tried to move. They looked down at their feet and noticed a shadow around them and creating a path to the man's feet. They growled as they struggled to move. They looked up and noticed the struggling man in the hole, poof away in white smoke.

“Aya was right, you two.” the man said with a laugh. “You guys were going way too easy on me. I'm your sensei. You're supposed to surpass me.”

Ryu chuckled and said, “We didn't feel like beating you up today, Keiji-sensei. So release the jutsu and give us a big hug, you big lug!”

Keiji chuckled and said, “Ok.” as he releases the Shadow Possession jutsu. Once it was release, the three groaned and sat on the floor.

They all look up at each other and then burst out laughing.

“Hey, Keiji-sensei! I guess you're still the man!” Ryu laughed wiping a tear from her eye.

Keiji-sensei laughed as he helped his students up, saying, “You know it!” When they finally got up, he gave each of them a big hug. “How are you guys?”

“How are we? How are you? We haven't seen you in three years and that's all you have to say?” Ryu and Hiken said in unison as they hugged him again. Keiji was like Ryu and Hiken's second father. Since Ryu's father never paid much attention to her and when her and her family is arguing, she'll usually sleep-over at Keiji's house or Hiken's house. When Hiken feels like she needs someone to talk to about her family life, she'll go to Keiji. Aya thought Keiji-sensei has her second father also, because he was always there when you needed him.

Ryu finally let go and said, “So I heard you went traveling.”

“Yes I have and I got special gifts for my students!” Keiji said with a small smirk as he took of his bag and opened it.

“OOH! Whatcha get me?” Ryu squealed, hopping up and down in excitement.

Keiji laughed and said, “You get your gift afterwards.” Ryu's face fell and she pouted. “First, we give it to the youngest, Aya.” Aya beamed as she stepped forward. He took out a clear flask with swirling blue mixture inside. Aya gasped as she held on the bottle. “This water came from a special pool in the Water Country. Its legend, that this water can heal and, even, bring people back from the dead. Its stays cold because, of the special material in the water.”

“Thank you, sensei!” Aya cried as she gave Keiji-sensei a hug. Once she let go, she looked at the flask lovingly and then hid it in a pack that was tied around her.

“Next, Hiken…” Keiji-sensei said as he reached in his bag again. Hiken smirked and took out her tongue and pulled her eye down at Ryu who just growled and picked up her fist. Hiken turned back to Keiji-sensei and had an intake of breath. It was a dagger. But the dagger's hilt was made of a black stone and its blade was diamond encrusted. “This blade I got specially made in the Earth Country. With this blade…” He handed to Hiken and resumed, “You can send flying rocks and use your earth jutsu with this.”

“Wow!” Hiken said examining the blade.

“And now, Ryu…” Keiji said with a chuckle as Ryu ran up with big puppy dog eyes. Keiji searched in his bag again and then pulled out something wrapped in a red cloth. Ryu blinked as she looked at it with great interest. As Ryu reached for the gift, Keiji grabbed her hand. Ryu looked up in confusion as he smiled, “You have to promise me, Ryu. You can only open this, when you're lost.”

“When I'm lost?” Ryu asked, puzzled. “Why?”

“Trust me, Ryu. I only want you to open this when you feel lost or alone.” Keiji looked at Ryu's eyes and she understood a little.

“Yes sensei.” She answered. Keiji smiled.

“Ok then, here you go.” Keiji said as he handed her the wrapped gift.

Ryu bowed and then hugged Keiji. Keiji returned the hug and sighed. Ryu, Hiken, and Aya then stood side-by-side to each other and bowed respectively. Keiji smiled as he bowed also.

As they looked up, Aya asked with a giggle, “So sensei, you must be here for the tournament.”

“Yes, and let me tell ya, it's gonna be a tough one this year.” Keiji said as they started walking towards the village gate.

“Why you say that?” Aya asked.

“Duh, it's because I, Ryu Shourin, am going to be in the tournament.” Ryu said proudly as she used her thumb to point at herself.

Hiken scoffed as she said, “Yea right. It's because the unbeatable Hiken Dairiki is going to be in the tournament!”

“Unbeatable?” Ryu said with a smirk. “This is coming from the girl who I easily beat earlier today?”

“I could have beaten you no sweat, you just surprised me!” Hiken growled.

Ryu laughed and she put her head up. “A ninja should always be prepared for a surprise attack.”

“I know that! I'm always prepared!”

“Then how come I still beat you?”

“It's because I thought you were a regular ninja!”

“Number one rule of being a ninja: Always be prepared!”

“That's it! I want a rematch! I'll prove to you that if I wasn't surprise I could beat you in an instant!”

“Time and place, Hiken-baby. Time and place.”

They glared and growled at each other with lightning going between their eyes. Keiji sighed…

Bonk!

Bonk!

“Owww!” Ryu and Hiken whined as they rubbed the gigantic lumps on their head.

“You two, no matter how long you guys haven't seen each other or when I haven't see you! You guys never change!” Keiji yelled at them, the burst of his yell making their hair fly back. The two pouted and put their head down. Under their bangs, they glared at each other again earning them both, two more bonks on the head. “Would you two quit it?” As the two started complaining, while their sensei chews them out, Aya was in the back giggling.

Aya laughed. `Yep, just like old times!'
