Prologue (hinata's story)
Hinata watched as her breath turned to frozen dust, lingering in the winter air. Rubbing her thickly gloved hands together, she gazed out at the field before her. a few young children were kicking around a soccer ball, their faces glowed bright with joy. A small smile slithered it's way across the young Hyuuga's lips, as she watched them play. She remembered the time when she was like that. Full of energy and determination, able to turn heads with a single look. "Cute little Hinata" they called her, with her long midnight hair and huge lilac eyes. But, she had given that up long ago. She had lost everything she ever cared about, her famliy, her home... him.
Hinata carefully wiped a crystal tear that rolled down her cheek. Reminding herself, for the umpteenth time that she would never see him again, she continued on, walking across the field that was so heavily coated in frost. She still remembered making snow angels when they were young... he had been the once to show her how to make one. She had never played with snow before and felt quite afraid, and he had held her hand and said ever so gently, "trust me, hina-chan". She felt the tears prickle in her eyes, threatening to escape at any moment. Why had everything gone so wrong?
She could remember quite clearly, she had made an unbreakable promise when she was younger. With the one and only boy she had ever loved. She had made a vow, that when they were old enough, they would be married and that they would never forget one another if they ever were to part. it sounded so foolish now, i mean, everyone makes vows like that when they're little without actually meaning it. But to hinata, those few words meant the world to her... she would never forget them... but, that was 10 years ago. He would have long forgotten her by now and would have moved on. And plus, she'd changed now, she wasn't the "foolish little Hina-chan" he used to know. She had grown out of such things as silly promises and such... she had grown up from then... or at least, convinced herself she had.
The truth was, no matter how hard she tried, she could never forget him. or their promise. He showed her how to live... how to enjoy life instead of just let it pass her by, bringing out a side of her she never thought possible... trust... friendship... love... even, heart-ache...
Hinata had no idea why, but her memory from that time (ten years ago) was a bit of a jumble. She couldn't remember what he looked like, how old he was, or even his name... but worst of all, she couldn't remember why or how they parted. One moment, she was there, next to him, next moment, she was on the street begging for food, with him nowhere in sight. Her head felt as if it had turned to mush, glimpses of back then kept popping up, as if her mind was a broken film, skipping through scenes. She remembered waking up in the middle of a unfamiliar street... it was winter, just like today... and snow was falling from a clouded sky...
Hinata sighed, as she reached out and caught a flake. Today reminded her so much of back then. Hiashi had found her on the side of the street and taken her in as his own child. The Hyuugas were so kind to her, especially Hanabi, her step sister. they gave her a home and food, and even supplied her with schooling! She was ever so greatful for that, but sometimes, couldn't help but wonder... how did she end up on the street in the first place? she must of had a family once. Maybe even a pet and friends. And if they were to see her now, would they remember her? would she remember them? And then there was also the memory of him... her promised one... would he recognize her? would it still be the same? She ducked as a ball flew past her head, barely skimming her hair.
"sorry!" yelled a voice from behind her. Hinata glanced around to see the children had stopped and were gazing a her, a look of guilt swam in their innocent orbs. The young Hyuuga let out another sigh, as she continued to sweep the snow with her feet. I shouldn't worry about such stupid thoughts... she told herself for the zillionth time. Of course she's never going to meet them... especially him ever again. So what's to think about? And plus, she had other things to worry about. she was starting a new high school in the summer...
Sasuke's POV.
I lay flopped on the desk, blobbed out like a Christmas turkey. A curtain of raven fell over my eyes as I dozed, eyes shut, mouth wide open. I had originally planned to finish my assignment (or even start it for that matter) that was due uh… 3 weeks ago? Or was it 4? oh well, one of the two. As I was saying… I had originally planned to finish my assignment tonight, as it was due however long ago. As far as I'm concerned… that didn't work.
I moaned as something hard hit me in the back of the head. Groggily rubbing my head, I opened one eye and glanced behind me. What the… a high heel?I scooped up the pink shoe and immediately noticed the girliness of the thing. Hot pink straps with purple ribbons. Ugh… I sighed as one name immediately popped in my head. “Itachi...”
My brother appeared at my door, puffing on a cigarette. He lent against the wooden frame, a bored expression slapped across his face.
I held up the high heel. “Why?" I hissed, chucking it back at him. He ducked. Why must he throw a frigging shoe at me?
“Why what?" he replied, calmly pushing his dark fringe from his eyes. I knew he knew very well what I meant. I narrowed mine at him, god, he was SO annoying.
“alright, alright little bro. I needed to wake you up. I've got something to show you.” he said with a smirk.
“why didn't you just shake me awake?"
“because annoying you is much more fun. And plus, good target practice”
My glare deepened. “One question”
“yeah?”
“Why on earth do you own a girl's high heel?”
he shrugged. “cause I can.”
Kami, he was weird. Okay, not just weird, possibly gay. Why, oh, why lord, was I stuck with him as a brother?
“right…” I mumbled, spinning `round in my chair.
Itachi raised a brow. “Here” he said, chucking me a half open box. I let my eyes fall to the small, colored package before me. Onyx orbs widened as recognition flashed bold in my mind. How the hell did he find that?
“Th-this is…”
“not as innocent as you look, eh?”
I felt my cheeks grow hot as I watched a slither of a smirk appear on my brother's lips.
“how did you-”
“Sasuke, Sasuke, you didn't honestly think that the back of your wardrobe was a good hiding place, did you?”
“…”
“so… little brother, who, might I ask, do those belong to?”
“They belonged to the school,” I answered coolly, running a hand through my raven spikes.
“uh huh…” Itachi replied with a cocked brow, “And why, may I ask, would you steal a bunch of ribbons from school?”
I carefully removed the lid of the delicate box and began to twirl a lilac bow between my fingers. The silk felt soft against my touch and a small smile made its way across my face.
“because I can” I answered simply.

Normal P.O.V
Itachi slowly exhaled breath, shaking his head. He knew his brother was like this. He swiftly walked over to the unaware Uchiha, and pinned him against a wall. Sasuke narrowed his eyes at his elder brother. “Get. Off.” He said, attempting to pry his fingers from around his color.
“Don't make me hit you” Itachi threatened, his face remained equally expressionless to that of his brother's.
“Tch” Sasuke replied, apparently unaffected by the threat. A flame of frustration burned in the deep ebony orbs of the elder Uchiha. How dare he not care!
“Tell me the truth”
“hn”
“I'll ask you one more time. Tell me the truth”
“hn”
Itachi gave Sasuke the kind of glare that any normal person would drop dead at the single glance. Sasuke however, being Sasuke, just shrugged it off. Gritting his teeth, Itachi hissed in a deathly tone…
“oh you little-”
“Itachi! Sasuke! Breakfast is ready!”
Itachi cursed, as the lady's voice drifted up the stairs. He was just about to hit him, as well. He slammed his brother into the wall and slowly walked toward the door, his charcoal cloak blowing in the gentle breeze. He paused, just as he reached it.
“Look, you know I know that's a load of bull and I will eventually find out the truth.” He turned his gaze to his younger brother. Though his face remained practically unreadable, Sasuke couldn't help but noticed the aggression in his eyes.
“I will speak to you later, I know it's something deeper.” He gave him one last glance as he turned and left, leaving Sasuke to dwell on his words. Something deeper… the younger Uchiha slowly stood from his seat and began to pace up and down the wooden floors just as the door clicked shut after Itachi. The truth was, he knew his brother was right. Those ribbons… were her ribbons from so long ago… she used to wear them in her hair everyday… she'd always looked to gorgeous with them on… like an angel that enlightened the darkness of…
he cursed his mind as he listened to the quiet pitter-patter of rain hitting the roof. How could he even think that? She was a backstabber, no, much more then that, a traitor, a devil, disloyal… even so... his savior… He thumped his head against a nearby wall and willed the feelings to disappear. But he just couldn't shake off that single nagging memory, the promise… their promise. It was as if she had conquered his mind, ridding any common sense that used to be in there. He felt butterflies attacking the lining of his stomach, as a wave of both frustration and another feeling he did not recognize filled him up. He was, annoyed at Itachi for reminding him, annoyed at her for leaving, but most of all, annoyed at himself for not finding her. Anger kept on bubbling, higher and higher… more and more… the pain she brought… all her doing… all her fault… he paused, his gaze wondering once more to the open window. Then why could he not stop thinking of her?
