Chapter Three
The effervescent aureate sun descended onto the sky, coloring the desert and dunes a dull carmine, sand suffocating the light, leaving the breezes dry. The many homes, constructed out of the same sand that encompassed them, began to glow an orangey hue, highlighting the village in warm colors. Most of the villages populating still asleep in their cozy homes, save the few ninjas that had missions to carry out, and the inhabitants of a certain home, in which one teen was still craving for slumber. Four shinobi stood outside of a middling household, saying their good-byes to a certain blonde teen.
"I don't see why you have to leave so soon, Naruto-kun. You just got here last night; if you consider midnight yesterday." The taller blonde said, placing her hands on her hips in a motherly fashion. Naruto shrugged, chuckling a bit nervously, the boy no longer in his orange jumpsuit from the night before, instead donning a tight black shirt, - much like his old one - a black vest with red trimming around the collar, and black and gray cameo shorts. He still wore the traditional ninja sandals, except his were now black, and like Gaara, he had white gauze wrapped around his legs, from ankle to slightly under the knees.
"I know, I don't want to go either, it's just I have to go to this meeting with the Hokage tomorrow at nine sharp and I can't be late." He replied sadly. "So, if I don't go now, then I wont get back to the village till later, and I'll sleep in and be late for my meeting."
"Can't you be responsible for once, shrimp?" Kankuro asked, leaning against the doorway, watching the blond with half-lidded eyes.
Everyone turned to look at him and blinked. "So anyway," Naruto began, breaking the silence. "I should get going."
"Yeah," Temari mumbled, blinking again. "What's so important that you have to get up at nine in the morning on your day off?"
Naruto grinned, scratching the back off his head sheepishly. "I'm actually getting assigned to a team of Genin's."
"What?!" Temari choked. "You just turned Jounin, you've got to be kidding me! Your only sixteen, you can barely manage yourself, how in the seven hells are you going to watch three pre-teens! Goddammit Naruto, you're still a kid!" Temari screamed, huffing franticly after having exhausted her stamina in shouting.
"Hey, I'm not a kid." Naruto pouted. "Besides, I'm really good with children, kids love me!"
"I don't know, Naruto. You may be good with kids, but are you sure you're experienced enough to teach three Genin's how to be proper ninja?" Gaara asked, quirking a non-existent brow.
"Why would you want to teach a trio of brats anyway?" Kankuro questioned.
Naruto sighed. "Yeah, I appreciated the encouragement, and I'll do fine. Besides. If they don't pass my test, then I wont have to worry about watching them."
Temari frowned. "Yeah but---"
"So yeah, I'm off. I'll see you guys around, thanks for the party and the presents, now I need to go, and you guys ain't helping, I was already feeling nervous about this whole thing." Naruto retorted, walking off, but not before giving Temari a kiss on the cheek and Kankuro a punch on the arm.
"I'll walk you to the border, fox." Gaara said, waving to his brother and sister before falling in step with the blonde.

The morning sun shone through the blinds, the silence broken by an infernal buzzing from the cursed thing known as an alarm. Now that all hope of ever falling back to sleep today was out of the question, the blonde haired teen had no choice but to get up. Stumbling out of bed, Naruto rubbed the sleep out of his eyes, only half aware of untangling himself from his covers and sheets. He crawled to his bathroom, mumbling incoherent things about monkeys and ramen. Kicking the door close behind him, he reached for the doorknob to steady himself as he stood up.
"God, I am definitely not a morning person." He muttered grumpily.
"You and me both kid. Now stop your whining, it's giving me a migraine."
Naruto flinched, then proceeded to pull off his pajama pants and step into the shower. "What's up with you, Kyu. Someone wake up on the wrong side of the cage."
"Shut up gaki, I swear I'll make you pay!"
Naruto sighed, snatching the bottle of shampoo and clicking the cap open. "No seriously, what's up? Why are you so grumpy, and why have you suddenly graced me with your presence?"
"It's none of your damn business! I was bored, and like I said, your whining was giving me a headache."
"Damn fox, if I didn't know any better, I'd say you were menstrual. Now stop being such a bitch, if you're not gonna tell me what's wrong, then at least stay the fuck out of my thoughts. I don't need you screwing up my day."
"Brat, who do you think you're talking to?! Watch your tongue!"
Naruto shook his head, moving his head under the spray and rinsing out the shampoo. "Whatever Kyuubi-chan." Naruto retorted, ignoring the growling and curses the fox sent him, and stepped out of the shower, grabbing the closest towel and wrapped around his torso. He stepped out of his bathroom, shivering at the cool air of his bedroom to contrast of the warm steam still skulking in the bathroom. He made his way to the small closet and was about to pull out one of his many orange jump suits, if he had not caught sight of a large tan pack. Sighing, he walked over to it and crouched next to it. `Guess I can wear my new clothes.'
He stared at the mirror in awe, rubbing his eyes for good measure. He was wearing a black mesh shirt under a midnight blue vest which bore a bright orange spiral on the back. On his left arm he wore a black leather cuff, on his right arm he had black gauze from his knuckles to his elbow. His cargo shorts came down half way past his knees. On his right leg he wore a dark gray gauze that came from his knee down to his ankle; his sandals were the same from the ones he wore the day before and his kunai pouch and shuriken holder remained where he always wore them. He didn't wear his Jounin vest like most, not that the Hokage seemed to care, it would have only looked weird wearing a dark green Jounin vest over a bright orange jumpsuit. Now that he had new clothes, he figured he looked too good to ruin his whole ensemble whit a stupid green vest. His vest was a thick material, and hard to penetrate with just ordinary shuriken and kunai, and it also had much more pouches for holding scrolls.
"And now for one last change," he mumbled, slipping his forehead protector and placing it around his neck. His blonde hair came down around his head, still in tuffs of unruly locks of gold forming bangs and slightly covering his ears from sight, though his three gold ear rings were still visible. "And I'm set." He glanced at the clock quickly which showed, in large red numbers, 8:31. Stifling a yawn, the blonde jumped out of his window and landed on the streets below with the grace from years of experience. "I guess I can visit Sakura-chan at the academy." Mind set, he jumped onto the roof and began to make his way to the academy where his former teammate, Sakura, worked as a teacher. She had given up perusing being a Jounin like most others of the rookie nine, with the exception of Ino. Both girls figured that Chunnin was the best they could do and so Sakura became an academy teacher, while her friend and rival, Ino, chose to work permanently in her families shop.
Naruto landed on the tree closest to the window of Sakura's classroom, where he could see her perfectly. He leaped off the tree and landed on the sill of the open window. "Ohayoo gozaimasu Sakura-chan!"
The pink haired Chunnin jumped slightly, caught of guard, and was about to shout and scold the blonde for his rudeness, that is until she saw him, and she found herself speechless. Naruto grinned, jumping into the room, and made his way to Sakura's desk, which he noticed, was perfectly clean and organized, save for the pile of graded paperwork on her desk. Sakura blinked, clearing her throat and smiled. "Hey Naruto, um… you look… different…" she managed the utter, gulping afterwards. `Gods, if Hinata-san sees him, she's gonna have a stroke.'
Naruto frowned. "Yeah, Temari-chan got me some new clothes for my birthday. But anyway, Sakura-chan, are you okay? You looked kinda flushed."
Sakura nodded furiously, waving the subject away. "So you said Temari-san got you those clothes, not bad." She croaked, turning to look at her paper work and avoid Naruto's prying eyes. `Who knew Naruto could look this… hot.'
"Yeah, I guess it does look better than my old clothes." Naruto replied happily.
"Oh yeah," Sakura said, opening a drawer and digging around. "I got you something for you birthday too, sorry it's a little late." She said, pulling out a velvet leather book with a silver heart embroidered on the cover.
"You… did?" Naruto asked incredulously, taking the book from her hands and opening it gently, revealing several photos of team seven, and pictures of when they were in the academy, most of Sakura posing, Kakashi reading his perverted book, Sasuke staring of into space and glaring, and some of Naruto eating ramen. Other pictures were of the four of them, and some with the other members of the rookie nine, which Naruto notice contained no pictures of Ino, or any other girl except Sakura herself. "Thanks Sakura-chan, this is amazing. I love it." Naruto gasped, closing the album and smiling gently at his old teammate.
Sakura smiled back. "I'm glad, happy birthday."
Naruto leant forward and embraced the pink haired teen, before stepping back and heading towards the window. "I've got to go, Hokage-sama is expecting me in…" he trailed off, glancing at the clock on the wall. "Thirteen minutes! Shit, I gotta go, bye, thanks for the gift."
Sakura nodded, watching him take off. Her smile faded the minute Naruto was out of sight, and changed into a pout. `Great, what am I gonna give Sasuke-kun now.' She frowned. `Stupid hot Naruto!'
~~
Naruto skidded to a halt in front of the Anbu guards, avoiding impact with the door by mere inches. He sighed, stepping back to face the guards. "Um, I'm here to see Hokage-sama." He could have sworn he heard the Anbu guard in front of him growl, and utter something about demons under his breath.
"D-do you have an a-appointment?" the other guard stuttered, the only indication to her being a woman being her voice. Naruto blinked at the woman's nervousness, but chose not to question her and nodded. "Hold on one moment." With that, the woman turned around and opened a door a crack, just enough for her head to fit through. "Hokage-sama, Uzamaki Naruto is here to see you." She said, her voice much more confidant now, which confused the boy greatly.
"Good, send him in." Naruto heard the Hokage's muffled voice from beyond the doors. The Anbu woman nodded and pushed the door open for the blonde. The oak doors behind him closed with a loud thunk, the Hokage sitting before him in behind her grand desk, looking over papers. The Hokage glanced up from her paper work and blinked. "Oi Naruto-kun, you look hot." She stated bluntly, motioning for him to take a seat. "Not a bad look for you."
Naruto rolled his eyes, taking a seat in front of the fifth Hokage. "Ano, so what's up, Tsunade-baasan." He said with a smirk, ignoring her previous statement.
Tsunade glared, huffing before turning her attention to the stacks of papers and grinning evilly. "So anyway, here is some information about your new charges, you are to meet them today at five. This was a last minute thing." She said, handing him three separate papers, grinning diabolically.
"Oh gods, what are you up to?" he inquired cautiously. He glanced down at the papers, flipping skimming down each page quickly before groaning. "You've got to be kidding me."
Tsunade snorted. "Oh no, I am very serious. You'll be meeting them in person at five by the Ichiraku. `Cause I know just how much you love that place."
Naruto perked up slightly, grinning. "Thanks, but still, this is gonna be hell, and you know it, so don't even bother pretending to be nice…" he disappeared in a cloud of smoke, his voice fading. "You old hag."
Tsunade blinked, taking a moment to translate the muffled echo. Realization shot through her like lightning, leaving a fuming Hokage in its wake. "Naruto!!!!!!!!"
