5.

Kakashi watched from the tree tops one of the strangest sights he'd ever had the luck to see. He blinked a few times then tried to dispel any illusion jutsu someone may have cast on him. No, it really did look like Sasuke was training with Maito Guy. This was one for the history books. Kakashi found himself grinning behind his mask. He almost chuckled. He settled himself comfortably against a solid branch and pulled out his book, but he didn't read much that afternoon.

Sasuke kept his eyes on the ground the entire time he sparred with Guy. More accurately he kept his eyes on Guy's feet. Kakashi recognized this as the strategy Guy used to fight him whenever they challenged each other. It worked pretty well, on the whole. But Guy was an exceptional fighter. His taijutsu was unmatched in the village. Only Lee came close to him, for obvious reasons. Sasuke was an exceptional fighter as well. 'Was' being the operative word. In the weeks following the sealing jutsu, he'd quickly realized that, without his sharingan, without his special techniques, he was an average shinobi. This did not sit well with him. It didn't sit well with Kakashi either, but he kept that to himself.

Kakashi's grin did not go away that afternoon as he watched his old student weather his old war buddy's endless and boundless enthusiasm over the fact that Sasuke had sought him out and was looking to improve on fighting techniques that Guy himself had developed. The man was glowing with pride. Sasuke was glowering but humble.

Kakashi knew why. Sasuke was humble because he was patient, something he'd never been before his time in Sound. He'd spent nearly three years with a man he loathed, biding his time, gaining enough power and knowledge to fight Itachi. Sasuke was improving his taijutsu so that he could fight Itachi. Training with Guy, learning to fight without seeing an opponent's face was another weapon, one that he would develop quickly given his preference for walking around with his eyes closed. Sasuke was a strange kid. No doubt about it.

He had his eyes closed now as Guy attacked from behind. Sasuke spun and dropped low, catching the blow on crossed arms. He shoved back and then turned, both hands in the dirt, both feet sweeping through the air. Guy jerked his head back as a bandaged heal nearly took him in the chin. He was grinning like a fool.

Sasuke was on his feet in a defensive crouch. He twitched his fingers at Guy. “Come.” Guy's feet left the ground and pale eyelids followed every movement. But if their was one thing Maito Guy could do, it was bend. If there were two things he could do, it was bend and punch with the force of... well, himself. Punches in Konoha were measured against Guy's - there wasn't anything else to compare them to. Sasuke found out both of these things very quickly as Guy was suddenly hurtling towards him, his most obvious weapon drawn back for a devastating blow. Sasuke started to dodge backward, but then Guy was bending, changing course mid-flight - Kakashi had seen this one before; it worked - somersaulting, one leg extended. Sasuke's eyes popped open and he flipped back out of the way just as Guy landed. Then, quickly as he'd landed, Sasuke vaulted back through the air, behind Guy, body spinning into a vicious kick. But Guy wasn't on the ground anymore. He had Sasuke's calf in one hand and Sasuke's chin at the end of the other. It was a love tap by Guy's standards, but the Uchiha was flat on his back. And he was cradling his jaw in one hand as he got to his feet.

“Are you alright, Sasuke-kun?”

“Yes.” His hand dropped from his chin and he beckoned. “Again.”

Kakashi had suddenly seen enough. He didn't fancy seeing his student pounded again, which is what would happen now that he was tiring. But Guy would train with him for as long as he wanted, because Guy believed in a challenge; he believed in overcoming pain. Kakashi believed in avoiding both if he had the option. And besides, he had to make dinner. Sasuke would be exhausted and famished when he got home. Kakashi decided he wasn't going to be annoyed with himself for leaving a good fight. The fact that he had to make this conscious decision defeated the purpose entirely.

***
Sasuke did come home exhausted and famished, but he also came home bruised and cranky, so the food that Kakashi made sat untouched as he ran a bath and Sasuke sulked in his room.

The air was heavy between them as Kakashi sat with his back to the wall outside the bathroom while Sasuke unwrapped torn and bloody bandages inside, hissing on occasion, cursing under his breath when he pulled his shirt over his head. Kakashi sat perfectly still, thinking that he should cover the vegetables on the stove so they wouldn't dry out. But he stayed put, head leaning against the wall, listening as Sasuke struggled. Finally, another curse and a quiet, “Are you just going to sit out there?”

Kakashi wasn't sure how to handle that question, so he decided to ignore it, swiftly rising to his feet and heading to the kitchen. He shook out his shoulders and ran a hand through his hair.

“Wait.”

He stopped, but didn't turn around.

“I- didn't mean...”

Kakashi looked over his shoulder to see Sasuke standing in the doorway, naked to the waist, bandages on one hand partially undone. The Uchiha jerked his chin toward the tub and disappeared, muttering something nearly inaudible that Kakashi heard perfectly.

“Out of my fucking mind.”

“Clearly,” Kakashi murmured. But he turned the rest of the way around and followed Sasuke into the bathroom, shutting the door behind them.

The boy sat on the toilet, watching Kakashi warily. Kakashi sat on the edge of the tub, far enough away that their knees didn't quite touch. Black eyes flicked from his one visible eye to his covered mouth and down to his hands where they rested on his thighs. Then Sasuke looked away, devoting his attention to unwrapping his knuckles. Kakashi watched him and winced internally as soiled bandages stuck to torn skin. The sound that made was singularly unpleasant. He wished he knew how to use his healing jutsu better. He wished even harder that Sasuke could still use his own. But wishing never got anyone anywhere, so without hesitating - Kakashi did not ever hesitate - he snatched Sasuke's wrist and slid closer, one knee now between his former student's. Sasuke's hand twitched and he was sure the kid was glaring a hole in his forehead, but Kakashi kept his eye trained on bruised fingers, carefully unwinding the wrappings from each knuckle, checking as he did that none were broken, jammed or dislocated. They weren't. Both Sasuke and Gai were too careful for that.

Next he unwrapped Sasuke's wrist, testing the joint, pressing fingers firmly into the muscle then holding the kid's hand steady as he moved up his arm. “You'll be useless tomorrow unless you stretch before bed. And you'll probably still be useless.”

“Fuck off.”

“But the bath should help.”

“I know that.”

“You're a real picnic this evening,” he said lightly. He let go of Sasuke's hand and rose to his feet. “I'll just be somewhere else for awhile. See you.” He turned to go, but as he half-expected, Sasuke grabbed his hand.

“I haven't forgotten what happened in the hospital. I don't know if you thought I would.”

“I sealed your chakra, not your memory.”

“I haven't wanted to do anything about it because I thought I'd feel different... Less. But I- itch.” Kakashi looked down at their joined hands and frowned. The seal around Sasuke's wrist was squirming and writhing along his skin. So was the one around his throat. His eye traveled along Sasuke's collar bone, along the smooth muscles of his arm and back down to their hands. “There's pressure in my gut and in my head and fighting doesn't get rid of it all.”

His words were jagged and his face was red, and Kakashi just wanted to shut him up, so he scooped him off the toilet and dumped him in the tub, shorts and all. Sasuke squawked in surprise and tried to sit up, sloshing water on the floor and drenching Kakashi's shirt. The jounin peeled it off and threw it on the floor, stripping off his pants and following Sasuke into the tub. It was big enough for two. Kakashi liked to have a large tub to soak in after a mission. Sasuke had shut his eyes as soon as Kakashi stepped into the tub, even though he still had his underwear on and was sure Sasuke could see him anyway. But he peeled off his mask and tossed it on the floor with his shirt and pants. Sasuke hesitated for a full two seconds and then slid forward, kneeling between Kakashi's legs, hands running along his chest and sides.

“Even if I'm like this, crippled and useless-”

Kakashi reached up and grabbed a fistful of Sasuke's hair, jerking his head back and pulling him forward in the same motion. “Stop talking,” he murmured.

Sasuke grunted and his knees almost slid out from under him, but he caught himself on Kakashi's arms and managed to make the kiss almost tender. Kakashi let it go on until that same ache began to fill his chest and he had to wonder whether he was having heart trouble or whether it'd been so long since he'd felt any sort of intense emotion that he'd forgotten what close contact with another human being could do to a body. Finally, he turned his head away and pried Sasuke's bruised and beaten fingers off his arms, spinning the boy around and settling him against his chest. Sasuke's breathing was a bit harsh and his body was tense in Kakashi's arms.

“I want-”

“Just rest for a minute.” The boy's hands were still wandering, catching in the fabric of Kakashi's underwear, but his head lolled back on Kakashi's shoulder and he stretched out his legs as far as they could go in the tub. He took a few deep breaths and swallowed. The water came up to the taller man's chest. It lapped at Sasuke's chin. And it was bliss. Just hot enough to ease aches and cuts. He watched Sasuke's hands in the water, saw dirt and blood dissolve. He couldn't be sure but his seals appeared to still be squirming a bit, but it may have just been an illusion from the rippling water. “Do they move often?” he asked softly.

“The seals?”

“Yeah.”

“Only when I feel like this... like I'll explode and no amount of fighting or training can get rid of the pressure. I don't know if it's a side-effect of having my chakra sealed off or whether it's...”

“The fact that you're seventee-”

“Fuck you.”

“Just something to consider.” Kakashi turned his nose into Sasuke's coarse black hair. It smelled of sweat and earth. His mouth quirked into a smile. “I can't see any sort of romantic relationship working between us, Sasuke,” he said bluntly.

Sasuke took a deep shuddering breath. His hand wandered around behind Kakashi's head and massaged the back of his neck. “I can't see anything,” he whispered.

They stumbled into Kakashi's room, dripping wet, Sasuke pushing his old sensei aggressively back toward the bed in the corner. Kakashi let it happen, feeling out the width of his room with sure steps, stopping short as the backs of his legs came up against his mattress. The young man in his arms shivered as his skin dried. His bruised fingers rested at the elastic of Kakashi's shorts and then tugged them half-way down his hips. There, he lost his nerve and his slightly trembling hands moved back up Kakashi's body, brushing over old scars, ribs and shoulder blades. Then Sasuke's fingers were on his face, feeling out the contours of his jaw and his lips. The Uchiha's eyes were closed as usual, so Kakashi stared openly at ghostly pale skin and hair dark as ebony. He bent down to taste Sasuke's lips and nearly jumped at the eagerness with which the boy kissed back. Kakashi let himself be pushed down onto the bed, his former student holding himself poised, examining him through pale lids. The boy shuddered as Kakashi ran rough fingers along the padded ridges of his ribs. They held themselves like that for a few more moments, testing distance and tension, measuring their need by the potential energy coiled in muscle. Kakashi thought about how long it had been since he'd had sex with anyone. Then he thought about what it would mean to have sex with Sasuke. He thought about having that lithe body underneath him, bending and arching, voice harsh and unused to expressing pleasure. He thought about Sasuke's time in Sound and knew that he would not be the first to have Sasuke, even though his former student was still in many ways a child. Sasuke had never come out and said it, but Kakashi could tell as the Uchiha began to kiss him, began to apply pressure between Kakashi's legs, that he'd done this many times before. He wasn't upset by this knowledge. He'd never been one for faithful, long-term relationships. He enjoyed a quick, lusty fuck after a mission as much as the next shinobi who realized that life was fleeting and very very bloody.

Kakashi watched the seals on Sasuke's temples squirm and he reached up, dragging the boy's head down, pressing a kiss to the inky black marks.

This was probably a very bad idea.

Taking courage from Kakashi's kiss, Sasuke quickly removed the last of their clothing, soaking wet underwear landing on the floor with a wet flop. Their bodies now flush against each other, Kakashi shivered as cold, wet skin pressed against his. He glanced quickly to the side and then wrapped his bedspread over them both. Sasuke's breath puffed warmly in his ear and the boy pushed his cold nose against Kakashi's cheek, nibbling at his jaw. His hand began to drift down Kakashi's ribs, wrapping around his hip bone, hesitantly reaching toward his-

“Are you sure you want to do this, Sasuke?” Kakashi asked suddenly.

Sasuke stilled in his arms and then leaned back to look at him, black eyes wide. “...Yes. I know how to make it good for you. It'll feel good.”

Kakashi looked away quickly, suddenly wishing for his mask. “That's not really what I asked.”

Sasuke started to pull away, defensive anger bleeding into his voice. “What do you... fuck, this whole time that I've been coming onto you... and you don't even...”

Kakashi frowned and then found himself wrapping an arm around Sasuke's waist, locking them together, even as the Uchiha tried to run away.

“Sasu-” Back muscles bunched and Kakashi almost lost his grip, but he hung on and then pushed his hips upward, meeting Sasuke's. “Wait.” Angry black eyes met his. “Will you relax?” He pushed his hips up again, and this time Sasuke swallowed hard. “You know what I want.”

Sasuke stared at him. “Are you kidding?” he asked breathlessly. “I'm never sure what you want. You never tell me anything. I just have to guess and I'm don't ever know if-”

The kid had a point. Kakashi rolled them over, keeping them wrapped up in the blanket. Sasuke came to rest, eyes wide, body tense as Kakashi's weight settled on him. “I want to know if this is what you want to do,” he asked softly.

Sasuke considered him, the last traces of his anger disappearing. “You know me. You know what I want,” he said finally, carefully.

Kakashi kissed him soundly, smirking into his mouth. “Close your eyes,” he mumbled. He glanced up to see pale lids covering black eyes and then very slowly he began to kiss his way down Sasuke's chest, nibbling at the sensitive edges of scar tissue, noting every caught breath and every twitch of muscle. “I can make it good for you, too.” At his words, Sasuke groaned and arched his hips off the bed.

*
Kakashi decided that he liked to make Sasuke feel good. He actually liked it. It brought him pleasure to see the boy's feelings scrawled so freely across his features, mouth open wide and gasping, eyes squeezed tightly shut, pulse fluttering wildly against the skin of his throat. Kakashi touched his former student and softly bit the inside of his thigh. Sasuke began to thrash about on the bed; but he didn't beg. His hips pushed persistently upward into Kakashi's hand and he felt the ache that had been filling his lungs head south. Sasuke's pleasure was affecting him and he wasn't sure how much longer he could handle watching the boy writhing under his hands without taking care of himself. But if he was nothing else, Kakashi was an excellent shinobi, and with that came careful control of his body. So he watched as Sasuke, with a breathless curse, finally slid over the edge, watched his body surge upward, one hand fisted in the blankets, the other blindly seeking him out, long fingers clenching around his bicep. Kakashi watched with a lazy smirk as his former student came, while inside, his guts throbbed.

As Sasuke finally stilled, he started to slide off the bed, wanting to get to the bathroom and some modicum of privacy, but Sasuke's fingers closed around his wrist and jerked him to a halt. He stopped, seated on the edge of the bed and turned to see Sasuke sitting up a bit shakily.

“Wait, Kakashi. Let me.” He still hadn't regained his breath, his voice soft and intimate. Kakashi felt a strange fluttering in his belly and his eyes slid closed as Sasuke came around the side of the bed, kneeling in front of him. His eyes flew open again when he felt his former student's mouth on him, expertly sucking him off. He watched the boy tackle the task with the same sober concentration that he approached everything he did. The boy nudged Kakashi's thigh with his arm and obediently he lifted his left leg so that it rested on Sasuke's shoulder. This tilted his hips up just a bit and gave Sasuke a better angle.

'Gods, when was the last time I've had a blow job like th-' His thought was abruptly cut off as two slick fingers found their way inside him. His body jerked and he felt slightly guilty that his hips surged upward into Sasuke's mouth, but the Uchiha didn't seem to mind, mouth swallowing him with unnerving ease. “You might want to move in a second,” Kakashi warned as calmly as possible, relieved that he was able to still articulate a coherent thought. But Sasuke didn't move and in the next second, Kakashi finished, face turned into his own shoulder, lips closed firmly against any cry that tried to escape. But he couldn't suppress a soft groan that still managed to slide between his lips. It was loud in the silence of his bedroom, and Sasuke appeared to like it - he could feel the boy smiling.

They slept in the same bed that night, Sasuke curled on his side, Kakashi on his stomach, head pillowed on his arms. Sasuke slept like the dead, one hand reaching toward his old sensei, palm up, fingers curved inward just a bit. Kakashi eyed that hand for about an hour before finally turning away from him and pulling his pillow into his arms.
