Sasuke let out a ragged breath, he was covered in sweat and after inspecting his surroundings he came to the conclusion that he was in his room at Orochimaru's hidden base in Grass county. A pale hand raised slowly to push soaked bangs out of his field of vision it shook ever so slightly, plucking absently at the black quilt pooled around his hips the quaking of his body slowed to a barely discernable tremor.
It wasn't the first time he had woken from his nightmares in a cold sweat but this one had been different if not for the Sharingan he would never have been able to recall just what the dream had been about.
A soft curse left his lips, shoving the blankets completely from him; he stood up from the bed to pad silently to his adjoining bath. One of the few things the Snake Sannin insisted on was that Sasuke keep himself clean and healthy. In the 2 and a half years since he joined the man he had learned many jutsu as well as being able to identify what was being put in his food most of which where supplements that had no enhancing effects. The first time he discovered them to be other wise a quiet threat to Kobuto nipped it in the bud.
He stared at his reflection in the mirror over the sink, he looked older though no bags had as of yet formed under his eyes to indicate the lack of sleep he had been suffering from recently his color was paler than normal. His eyes where darker the irises almost black through out, his hair was the same as always in an effort to look nothing like Itachi. As he studied his reflection it slowly faded or to be more precise melding with another far more familiar then he cared to admit at least in public. Slowly the features of his longtime friend became clearer, only instead of his usual grin the blonde wore the pained expression he had when they last meet as adults.
Blue and Black clashed he felt his will to resist the pull disappear and instead of glaring the image into obscurity as he so often had he did something far more rare in its sightings, he smiled. It was a small up turn of the lips and he hadn't smiled in what seemed like decades but the look did reach his eyes. The blonde in the mirror blinked a grin replacing the pain and Sasuke was certain he had passed some kind of test. The feeling lasted for several seconds before he ruthlessly squashed it. Splashing cold water on his face he turned on his heel, water still dripping from the tips of his hair and chin, he marched back into his room. He dressed in his usually attire went though he usual routine of training and returned to his room. The only difference was that today the Snake would die.

TIME SKIP SASUKE HAD RETURNED TO THE VILLAGE

He couldn't really say why he picked that day for certain, and years later it would still nag him. He told others that asked that he had planned it, that no he hadn't woken up that morning with no plan and he never told anyone what he had dreamed or what he had seen in his mirror that morning. It did how ever unnerve him when Naruto would look at him just so with that ever-present grin which would fade when their eyes meet and a tiny true smile would flitter across the boys face like he Knew.
Sasuke shook his head to rid it of the after image, that dream had shaken him to his core. He hadn't thought of that particular incident in years and he couldn't tell Naruto that it was a large part of why he had killed the Snake Sannin then but looking back he knew it to be the reason.
“OI, TEME!” Sasuke looked up from study the ground at his feet, cocking one dark brow he smiled before allowing the familiar smirk to slide into place. Naruto pretended not to see the smile and Sasuke pretended to be put out by the Blonde's greeting.
“Dobe.”
Both boys knew though they would never tell each other in so many words that they were happy to have each around again.

Sakura rolled her eyes as she watched her teammates bicker,
“Boys are so stupid!” Ino exclaimed as she flickered her ponytail back over her shoulder. Sakura tended to agree but she wasn't about to let Ino-pig know that.
“I mean Come On, why can't they just act like adults and have a normal conversation?!” Ino rolled her eyes heaven word lamenting about their foolishness, meanwhile Sakura remained silent, their small group was heading to Icruka's to celebrate Naruto's appoint to Rokudaime candidate. He had a few more hoops to jump though before he was deemed by the counsel as fit to be the next hokage.
Ino had continued her diatribe leaving the pinkette slightly behind the group, she could see off to the right and ahead Shikamaru and Choji making their way towards the restaurant where the rest of the rookie nine waited. Sakura had to laugh at that, even to this day the older ninja of the village still referred to them as such it made her feel like nothing had changed, but it had they all had gone though so much and now on the other side of it new alliances had been made tying the villages together, it was largely in part thanks to Naruto who was at that moment jumping up and down and gesturing wildly recounting some story to Sasuke. Looking at them all she thanked what ever god had allowed them to find one another again, she was brought out of her musings by Naruto's shout.

“SAKURA-CHAAAN HURRY!”
He never left anyone out.
The End.

AN
Ok so yeah I finally finished this one I decided to make Sasuke believe it was a dream instead of some other random direction it made it easier to believe then where I initial thought of taking it and I didn't really what to make it long just a quick two shot it can be tied to Homecoming. So ultimately he picked Naruto and Konoha and I still believe that's also why in the manga he is going after Itachi just a theory anyway sorry this took so long JA!
