Naruto Fan Fiction ❯ World Collision ❯ Crossing the boarder ( Chapter 45 )

[ P - Pre-Teen ]

The reason why I'm posting more of this here is because a few people have came to me on fanfiction.net, telling me how I stopped updating here. Well let me tell you the reason for that; though I've posted 45 chapters, IT HASN'T GOTTEN EVEN ONE REVIEW! I had no idea people actually liked it since no one told me so. If you truly enjoy reading this, just review and I'll know that there are still people around on mediaminer who care for this story, okay? Otherwise I'll just continue to post it on fanfiction.net.

Jessica sleepily walked as she stared down at the dirt. A week had passed since they had set out from the small village, and she found that her mind had fully returned to normal as far as how she enjoyed traveling. This aside though, she found that her legs and shoulders had grown strong since she first took up the role as `the carrier'. She guessed that Deidara must have been right when he said she'd get use to it, though she didn't believe him when he said it. Of course, that would probably be because of her attitude towards the whole thing. Now that she had been traveling with them for what she estimated in her head to be about three months, she found herself being surprisingly content with her life.

Glancing up, she blinked a few times as she saw an unfamiliar sight before her. There about thirty meters away, was a large line of broken up rocks. Frowning at the sight, she looked up at her master to receive an answer. “Deidara-sama, what's up with all of those rocks?”

“Hnm, this is the borderline between the sand village and the rain village's territory. Yeah,” he replied. Then looking him then back at the border with curiosity, Jessica caught sight of a large sign through the dark shroud of the night. Of course, its message was written in Japanese; hence she couldn't make out what it said though she had a good guess in what it did. She thought that perhaps it just said “the rain village”, or something in the like. She had to wonder though; what if it said something bad? Like, what if it had some sort of a warning on it? She didn't doubt her master's strength after all she had seen him go through, but she couldn't help but feel a bit queasy when remembering the last experience she had alone in this world. As they approached the area, she found that these rocks were bigger than she had expected. Of course she knew that they'd obviously get bigger once they reached it from how they looked from afar, but they seemed a lot bigger than she estimated. Perhaps she was just overly tired and didn't see it as clearly before? Whatever the reason, she didn't pay much attention to due to her legs load cries for rest. All she wanted to do now was to get to whatever point Deidara and Tobi found reasonable for the night and collapse after a camp was made. If it were her choice, she'd just as much been satisfied to set up came right where she stood; she was the one carrying all of the supplies after all. Being that she was the slave and had no say in any of this, she kept her mouth shut as she had learned to do after being given various lessons for her outspoken tongue. As she began to yawn softly, she then suddenly stepped to her left while she shifted her body to the side as a loud hissing sound passed her ear.

“Jessica-chan, get on the ground!” Tobi commanded as he appeared behind her to push her to the gassy earth. Confused after being lightly shoved onto the ground, she lay on her stomach as she glanced from side to side. Without being given another moment to think, many more hisses broke through the air as the bright glairs of the small weapons reflected in the moonlight. “What's going on? Are we under attack?” She thought in panic as she placed her hands on top of her head while she closed her eyes tightly out of fear. Within seconds her eyes flew open again as she heard and felt a loud bang ring through the air. Biting her lower lip as she squint her eyes from the smoke that filled the atmosphere around them, she searched desperately with her eyes for her companions. She couldn't decide whether or not she should call for them or not. She longed for their presence, but found that she may just put herself in danger rather than safety if she did that. As she trembled, she did all that she could do; pray.

“Lord, protect me from this! Please, save me from whatever it is that's threatening me! Lord, please protect Deidara-sama and Tobi-san, please keep up safe! Send your angels, and keep us safe, please!” She begged silently as she squeezed her eyes shut again as if it would make everything go away. As she heard a few cries of pain ring through the air, she clenched her teeth together as if it were her that was going through it. After a few moments, she found everything to be still again. No explosions, no flying weapons; nothing. Opening her eyes again, she glanced around to find that the cloud of smoke still hovered through the air, though it was gradually floating away from the area. She couldn't find anything out of the ordinary besides that; it seemed safe again. Was it though? Slowly standing to her feet, she cautiously scanned the area for anything suspicious before stepping forward. Seeing that everything was still, she quietly crept through the dewy grass as she made her way towards the wall. With a heart that beat at a fast pace, she searched for the two whom she found security in desperately.

“Deidara-sama,” she said in a low voice as she peeked her head around the side of a large rock. Getting no reply, she started to make her way up the ruff surface. “Tobi-san, are you there?” After what felt like some of the longest seconds in her life, she quickly turned to her right as she heard a familiar voice.

“Jessica, get down here, yeah.” The blond commanded from where he stood now on the other side of the boarder; not one visible scratch on him.

“What was that?” She said still in a lowered voice as she quickly made her way down.

“It looks like they've put up boarder watches. They weren't here the last time I went through this country,” Deidara mumbled to no one in particular as he placed a hand on his chin in thought. Rubbing her hands together once she reached the other side, Jessica then walked up beside the man as she looked up at him for further instructions.

“Jessica-chan, you're okay right?” Tobi asked as he placed a hand on her shoulder. Turning her head quickly to look back at him after jumping slightly, she nodded her head.

“Of course she's fine; why wouldn't she be? It wasn't as if these men were anything special, hnm. Especially compared to my fine art, yeah,” The blond said as he looked at the orange masked man. Sighing, he then looked out to the distance again as he thought a bit. “We should get away from here a bit; no need to be seen when rain village shinobi discover their watch are dead. Once we get to a safe spot, we'll set up camp to get some rest.”

“Oh, good idea Sempai,” Tobi exclaimed. “Uh, how much farther is it again before we get to the three-tails?”

“I don't know Tobi, that's what we're going to find out now isn't it?” He replied as he started to walk again. Sighing out of exhaustion, Jessica followed much to her tired body's displeasure. It seemed that God had protected all of them, though she still didn't like the fact that Deidara and Tobi had killed the people who attacked them. She would have called it murder, but it had been self defense right? It wasn't as if they just walked into the country and killed the people, though perhaps the sign had said something like `trespassers being killed if seen'. Even so, she felt uneasy at the fact that they found it easy to just do such a thing. How could anyone kill another being so easily like that and act unaffected by it? Shaking her head in confusion, she tried pushing the topic to the back of her mind as she concentrated on the good things. They were all unharmed; that was the important thing, right?
