Chapter 1:
Deal with the Devil
"What a haul! What a haul!" Happosai shouted with glee as he came
back from a successful mission of rescuing his silky darlings. To the
ignorant, he merely looked like a very perverted ugly little troll, but
to everyone in Nerima he was another of its infamous inhabitants. But
no one would really suspect that the lecherous Happosai was the 300
year-old Grand Master of both schools of Anything Goes Martial Arts.
As he neared the Tendo household he saw at a distance his reluctant
heir, if the boy would just accept to be his heir then Ranma could
truly become the best. Nearing Ranma's prone figure, Happosai readied
a bucket of cold water to splash Ranma and enjoy the feel of Ranma-
chan's bosom.
Almost too late, Happosai noticed the sickly green glow that had
surrounded Ranma's prone form, which meant that he was severely
depressed about something. Happosai remembered the wedding fiasco two
years back and regretted drinking the barrel of cure for Ranma thinking
it was sake. He put away the bucket for now and moved closer to Ranma
*Something's really wrong with the boy*, thought Happosai to himself.
Where was the brash, arrogant, and confident young man that had always
stood up in defiance against him? Instead, he only saw a helpless,
broken, and very depressed boy crying into his hands. He always knew
that Ranma kept his all of his anger, sadness, sorrow, and heartache
locked away, but now it seemed that he could no longer hold them back.
For the first time, Happosai felt truly sorry for the boy.
Happosai steeled himself and prepared to confront his would-be heir
about his problems. He had to be very careful though, messing with a
VERY depressed martial art-no warrior who can kill a god would be in
his favor. He could very well receive a perfect shi shi hokodan if he
went about this the wrong way.
"Hello m'boy." He said to the crying boy, and was unnerved to see Ranma
look up to see him with his teary, blue eyes caught by surprise that
someone had managed to sneak up on him.
"What do you want?" Ranma asked in a soft and resigned voice, which
gave Happosai a chill down his spine, there had been no life in the
voice in which Ranma spoke with.
*What had happened with the boy to act like this?* thought Happosai to
himself as he gazed at the sorry state the boy was in. Ranma just gazed
back at Happosai with his sad blue eyes still red from tears and as
Happosai went deeper he was shocked to see that there was no life left
behind those eyes.
*Kami-sama! It's like the boy has completely given up on his life!*
thought Happosai once again to himself and realized that Ranma might
be on the verge of suicidal depression.
"What do ya want ya old geezer?! Gonna splash me again or sumthin'?"
asked a very irritated voice that broke him out of his thoughts.
Happosai was silent for a moment before he answered Ranma with a
question.
"What's wrong Ranma?" he asked with complete concern and sincerity
that shocked the young warrior.
"Nuthin' old geezer." Came the immediate response from Ranma
*He's shutting himself out again.* Happosai thought
"Really? Hmm.then why were you crying? Answer me that boy, it's not
everyday that you see the great Ranma Saotome crying like a girl on the
roof." said Happosai to Ranma hoping to goad him into telling him what
he needed to know. He was completely unprepared with his would-be
heir's response.
With a roar of rage and moving at a speed even Happosai couldn't see,
Ranma grabbed him by the throat and smacked him down on the roof.
Happosai could see a fiery red battle aura overpowering the sickly
green one around him as he saw Ranma gather a ki ball into his other
hand and from what Happosai could feel from the energy that Ranma was
gathering into his hands that he wouldn't be able to survive it. He
looked on with terror as he saw Ranma raise his hand in front of his
face and prepared to use it on him.
"I'LL KILL YOU!!!" shouted Ranma as he prepared to unleash his love,
anger, and all of his sorrow at Happosai who looked on with fear and
terror etched on his wrinkled face as he tried to break Ranma's
monstrous hold on his throat. Suddenly, he remembered the Battle at
Jusendo again and all of his anger vanished instantly as he once
again was about to take another life out of anger and rage.
*I almost killed again.what have I become?* sadly thought Ranma to
himself as he fell on his knees and cried into his hands once more.
"That was too close." muttered Happosai as he rubbed his bruised throat
and watched with dismay and Ranma slumped onto his knees and cried
again. He jumped when Ranma looked at him, with tears flowing down
his face and asked, "Why.(sob).do you care?...(sob).It's not like.
(sob).everyone else cares.(sob).". Happosai could only answer in
silence to the boy's question.
Ranma calmed down after a minute or two then finally said in a soft
voice, "I'm tired old man.tired of my life. I am the best and what do I
have to show for it? Nuthin'.just daily beatings from an uncute tomboy,
unwanted preaching about honor from my pops and Mr. Tendo, unwanted
fiancées, and tons of people out for my blood.why can't they leave me
all alone?" then Ranma's voice raised in volume, "WHY?! I want to live
my own life, not this one forced on me, but one where I call the shots
and no one else. I just want a new life to live." He finished as he
became silent once more and looked up at the night sky
Happosai took in what Ranma had said and analyzed the situation. He
never knew that things had gotten his bad and had to admit that he was
also somewhat responsible for some of his problems, but what could he
do to help? He also pondered why Ranma hadn't gone insane and killed
every person in Nerima, any normal guy would've gone insane with the
pressure and everything a long time ago. Pondering on these thoughts,
he made a shocking revelation.
*It's the boy's damn honor. He is truly too honorable for his own good.
His honor made him stay rather than leave, his honor had kept him from
hitting back at any female who harmed him, his honor made him take both
physical and emotional blows to his being, his honor made him suffer in
silence, his honor had damned him into fighting a losing battle, and
his honor had kept him from lashing out at those who had hurt him with
the intent to kill. Truly, in this modern day and age, any normal
person would have discarded honor. But to the boy, it defined him, it
made the difference between him and his no good father, and in the end,
it had trapped him in a life of misery with no way out except the path
of death or exile. He is truly like the samurai of old, who held honor
higher than their lives. Indeed the boy is a samurai, the last samurai
of this day and age. But how would I help him? If he moves or runs
away, the chaos will definitely follow wherever he goes, especially
his fiancées and his rivals.*
Happosai remembered something, one of the artifacts he had.acquired
from the Amazons those many years ago had powers like the Nanban Mirror
except it had the power not just to go to the past, present, or future
but also different dimensions, realities, and universes. But it was a
one way trip, who ever was sent using it would never be able to return,
he recalled being told by Cologne that their ancestors had used it on
the worst of the worst offenders and death was a kinder punishment than
being banished forever from your home. But he could not use it unless
Ranma agreed to use it 100%.
But if it could help his wayward heir and save his own skin in the
process, Happosai looked at the now silent Ranma gazing up the starry
night sky and cleared his throat. When the boy looked at him, he
grinned and asked, "How about making a deal with the devil m'boy?"
The cloaked figure smiled to herself as she watched and waited for
Ranma's decisive answer. It was beginning..
