A Cruel Human Thesis
It was late on September thirteenth Two Thousand Fifteen. The custom car of Major Misato Katsuragi rolled down the rain drenched and now barren streets of what once was the hub known as Neo Tokyo 3.
“Major, I don't understand, why did…” Motoko Hyuga began to ask, but stopped sensing from the Major's expression he would not get a response even if he completed his question.
Misato drove until they arrived at her apartment block in the older section of Tokyo 3. The two exited the car, Misato looked at Hyuga and shook her head, he nodded albeit reluctantly as Misato pulled her service pistol from it's holster, checking it was cocked and loaded. Hyuga spoke what he hoped would not be his final words to his Major, “Be careful Major.” She simply nodded and walked away.
Misato walked the stairs like a condemned prisoner; each step brought her closer to death. The only uncertainly was of who would die. She paused at the door to her apartment, the emotion running her body was not unlike the one the day of Second Impact.
Pulling the door open she walked the darkened corridor, Shinji Ikari, in his school uniform sat on the couch, the TV unwatched. Shinji didn't even look around at her, “So, I guess you know.”
Misato stood in the doorway her right hand on the butt of her gun, “Yes, I just can't understand why, was it your Father?”
Shinji shook his head, “No.”
“Was it the Committee?”
“No.”
“Then who Shinji?!” Misato asked her voiced raised slightly, the anger building within her slim figure.
“It was you Misato-san.” Shinji responded calmly still without turning his head to her.
“Me! What kind of logic is that? I loved Kaji!”
“That was the problem Misato-san.”
“What are you…?” Misato paused before finishing her question finally close enough to see the revolver in Shinji's lap, “Shin-kun,” She said attempting to remain calm, “Just tell me why?”
“He was trying to take you and Asuka away, away from me, I couldn't let that happen, and when Father summoned me…”
“Shinji, don't you understand, he was using you, he's using you even now…”
A perverse smile crossed Shinji's face, “I know.”
Misato paused, confused. As Shinji stood, Misato finally saw passed him to Asuka in nothing but her hospital gown and panties sitting beside Shinji, her eyes open but empty. Misato looked to the craze eyed Shinji, his perverse smile still intact. “Shinji, what the hell are you thinking!” Misato asked her voice with a small dash of fear for what he could do to her pseudo adopted daughter/younger sister.
Shinji, holding the revolver in his right hand raised the left, grenade bearing hand, Misato drew her gun on the unstable Third Child, “I, I won't, I won't let anyone take you away Misato, not Kaji, not Father and not the Committee, I'll make sure we're together, you me and Asuka, forever.”
Misato raised her hand, the fear showing in her face by this point, despite her attempts to hide it, “Shinji, there are other ways, if you want us to be together, we can work on that, just give me the grenade.” She said edging closer.
Shinji shrunk back raising the revolver, “No! Everyone gets taken away, Mother, my teachers, Toji, Hikari and Kensuke, I'm not letting you two be taken away as well!”
“But we're here as a family now, you've brought all three of us together. That won't change Shinji.”
“Promise?”
Misato averted her eyes for a split second, “Promise.”
“I…” He let his arm drop, his eyes now hooded, “Don't believe you Misato-san…”
“I know Shin-kun, I'm sorry…”
