A Soliloquy of Life: Chapter 7- Not All Pain is the Same.

 

 

It was the Monday after the wedding at lunch time. “Rise, bow, Dismissed” the class rep said as she dismissed the class for lunch. The girls went to the bottom of the hill while the boys went to the top. This part was the same as usual but the reason was now different, as both groups started this way to give each other some alone time to talk. About half way through lunch though the boys would come down and join the girls.

 

At the bottom of the hill. “Hikari why didn't you and Touji come swimming with us yesterday?” Asuka asked her with Rei adding “And why did your dad drop you off at school today? You always walk with Touji now.”

Hikari answered them “We had to ask Misato some questions and my dad and I were having a very long talk most of last night and for much of this morning.” Misato had said during her talk with them that it was necessary that they both have talks with their dads as well about this decision.

Asuka and Rei both looked at Hikari funny. “Why all the talking?” Asuka asked hesitantly.

“Because Saturday evening Touji and I had a talk and made a big decision” Hikari said only hinting at an answer. Both Asuka and Rei had an idea of what she was talking about now but didn't want to come out and directly say it.

Hikari then added, knowing this would definitely give it away “I told my dad that I would be staying over at your house this weekend. But I'm not going to, so I need you to cover for me.”

“Are you sure about this?” Rei asked.

“He's not pressuring you about this is he?” Asuka added on with some concern.

“No, No, I was actually the one who brought it up. Touji actually resisted at first and was worried about that.” Hikari said to make sure they realized that this was a mutual decision. Both of them where a little leery but accepted what she said, and they were both actually a little surprised that it was Hikari who initiated the step up in her relationship with Touji.

“Other than what we heard in health class, do you know what it will be like?” Asuka asked curiously with Rei adding on “I heard it hurts the first time.” Hikari told them that she had been doing some extra research and had even bought a book on the subject. She also said that she had a clue on what it might be like and that it might hurt from a little to a lot depending on the woman.

“What about protection?” Asuka asked.

“I have been on the pill for over a year now, and we definitely will be using a condom” Hikari answered. “I may be ready for sex but not a family.”

Rei was still a little bit concerned and asked again “Are you absolutely sure?”

Hikari answered her “I am very sure. This is something I need.”

The discussion then turned to how she knew she was ready as both girls listened intently. Rei was now starting to have some of the same thoughts about her and Kensuke and hoped that some of the things Hikari was saying may be able to help her understand her own thoughts and feelings. Asuka actually had been thinking a lot about her and Shinji getting together in that way for a while now. She knew that both of them were only a couple months away and everything she could learn from Hikari was very important to her.

 

On top of the hill Kensuke asked Touji “Why aren't you eating?”

“I've got a lot on my mind.” Touji answered while still concentrating more on his thoughts than on his lunch. For once in his life he simply wasn't hungry.

Shinji asked him “Does it have anything to do with why you were talking to Misato yesterday? And why you got to school late today?” Touji simply nodded yes.

Kensuke then asked “Does it also involve Hikari?” Touji nodded his head yes again.

“You two are okay?” Shinji asked as he was growing concerned at the situation.

Touji answered “We are perfectly fine. Maybe a little further than that even.” Kensuke and Shinji now had a good idea what Touji was really talking about.

“So why do you look so worried?” Kensuke asked. “You should be happy. I know I would.”

Touji answered “Even though she brought it up, I am still worried that I am pressure her some how.” He let out a large sigh as he thought about it again. “I just don't want to screw things up with her. She is too important to me.”

“Have you asked her about this?” Shinji asked him.

“Several times and she keeps saying no but I am still worried” he answered. “This is a big step.”

Touji's indecision forced Kensuke to ask “Are you sure you are ready then?”

Touji thought about this question for a little while to make sure he truly knew the answer himself. And after thinking he said “I am pretty sure I am ready, it's all I have been thinking about lately. And I really, really, really do want her but after my game this afternoon I am going to talk with Hikari again to make absolutely sure she is too.” They talked more about this with Kensuke paying very close attention. Shinji actually trailed off after they discussed that it might cause pain to the girl the first time. Shinji was very comfortable with all aspects of him and Asuka being one, except for this. The thought of him having to hurt her to prove his love for her was still a very unpleasant one. After they finished their talk they walked down the hill to join the girls.

 

The kid's school was playing another rival school from Tokyo-3 in baseball. Touji played shortstop and was the star of the team. While he was happy about being the best one on the team he also thought it was no big thing. He played for fun, and routinely turned down being the captain much to his coach's displeasure. He always told the coach he wasn't ready for that kind of responsibility and that is why he turned it down. The real reason was it would take time away from being with Hikari, his family, and his friends and they were more important to him than any game. The other kids on the team knew the real reason why he turned it down and didn't really have a problem with it as they would do the same thing in his case. Most of them were sort of jealous of him though. Not only was he an awesome player but he was dating one of the hottest girls in school. It wasn't really fair but on the flip side saying anything would probably have gotten your ass kicked and there was a reason he was the power hitter on the team.

 

Hikari and the others came to watch him play as he always said he played better when they were around, and if you looked at his stats he was right. Today though that was not the case. Halfway through the game he had already struck out once and hit a weak grounder to the pitcher while at bat. Also he had committed his first error of the year.

His coach was not pleased. “What the hell is wrong with you today, it's like your not even trying!” the coach yelled at him while he sat on the bench.

Touji answered “I'm just having a little trouble concentrating today.”

The coach flipped out at that and yelled “I have scouts from four different colleges and even one from a pro team to see you. Get your head out of the F-ing sky and pay attention.” Touji just rolled his eyes at the coach and grabbed a bat as he was up next. He swung and missed at the first two pitches and struck out looking on the third.

In the stands Hikari said “Touji usually goes three for four or better. And this is the first time I have ever seen him commit an error.”

Asuka added on “Even though I like to rip on the stooge, this is just too much. I know he is a better player than this.”

Rei then said as she looked at him “He seems really distracted, like he has something on his mind.” After she said this all three girls looked over at the boys who were being unusually quiet at the time.

Asuka asked them “You were talking to him at lunch today, what is up with him?” Both boys refused to give an answer and even went as far as to look away from the girls. Both Rei and Asuka made their boyfriends look back at them and all three girls stared at them wanting an answer.

Kensuke cracked first “I don't think he wants us to say anything.”

Hikari got up and stood in front of the boys and spoke in her class rep tone “If it involves Touji it involves me. Now tell me what is wrong or ELSE.”

Shinji said in a quiet and nervous tone “He thinks he is pressuring you.”

Hikari smiled at this and said in a sweeter tone “That big lovable doofus.”

Rei interrupted her while pointing at the dugout “I don't think lovable is the correct word right now, look.”

 

When Touji got back to the dugout the coach blew up at him again. He yelled about every swear word he could think of. Touji didn't really pay attention until the coach said “Your head better not be stuck on some stupid little girl toy.”

That phrase set Touji off and in a deep and angry tone he yelled “What the hell did you say about Hikari?” The rest of the team took notice of this very quickly. Insulting Hikari was a good way to end up on the ground with several bruises to your face.

The coach yelled back “So it is a stupid little girl toy on your brain. If you want a future in this game, drop the toy.” Touji grabbed a bat and charged towards his coach while the rest of the team leaped at Touji to try and stop him from wailing on the coach. Although most of his teammates were actually contemplating letting him go as they thought the coach deserved what Touji was going to do to him.

But as the team held him back a loud voice boomed out “Touji Suzahara get your ass over here NOW!!” Touji immediately stopped his actions, dropped his bat, threw off his teammates, and walked to the back of the dugout.

“Yes Hikari” he said. She then dragged him a little ways away so they would be out of earshot.

 

About ten minutes later Hikari gave him a kiss on the head and a playful slap on the back of it, and he returned to the dugout with a huge smile on his face.

The ump looked over and said “Now that the fireworks are over can we please get back to the game.” So the game played on.

In the stands Hikari stopped in front of Shinji and Kensuke and said “Why do we always have to drill things into your heads before you men understand.” Shinji started laughing as both he and Kaji heard that line often from Misato and Asuka, while Kensuke laughed as he said “Because were stupid.” He was a quick learner in that field of play. When there is a problem it is always the guys fault. Hikari shook her head in a disapproving manner and sat down next to Asuka and Rei, who were also shaking their heads. They all then looked at each other and said in a dissatisfied tone “Boys.”

 

At Touji's next at bat he crushed the ball. After he crossed home plate and returned to the dugout he said to the coach “If you ever even think about insulting Hikari again I will quit this team and I won't come back next year. And I don't want to be the stupid captain so just stop asking.” He then walked away from the coach towards the dugout where the rest of the team congratulated him as he walked through the dugout towards the back door. Touji had broken a 2-2 tie game in the ninth and now the game was over. Hikari gave him a big hug at the door when he got there and he left with her to go get a victory dinner at her place instead of hanging around with the team and the coach to celebrate the victory over their rivals. The coach meanwhile was standing there stunned, and by the way Touji said what he said he knew that what he was told was not a threat, but a promise.

 

After the game was over all five scouts wrote the same things in their notebooks.

-Great natural fielding skills.

-Top notch power hitter.

-Make sure girlfriend is at all games.

-DON'T ever insult his girlfriend in any way.

 

Little break

 

About a month later, Misato, Maya, and Ritsuko were sitting around talking about babies again. “(A/N: Misato should be about five and a half months at this point in time. I think.) Ritsuko was saying she was thinking about having a child again, and that her relationship was now moving fast and that the two of them had just started talking about marriage. So maybe a year from now she might actually be given a chance at motherhood. She did point out though that she only wanted one kid. She had seen what Misato had to put up with and didn't think she couldn't handle it. Maya on the other hand said she was thinking about two or three kids with at least one of each. She said Makoto and her have been talking about when to start trying and hoped that in the coming months she will have a big announcement. Misato was very happy to hear this as she had a big announcement of her own. In a proud of herself voice Misato informed them that since she was the only one that still had an office on her and the next two floors that she was going to remodel the whole area into a maternity ward, nursery, and a daycare center. Both women laughed a little at that as they had noticed the area around Misato's office was emptying out. And that could only mean she was up to something. Misato explained it away by saying she noticed, along with her, that quite a few of the female personal at Nerv were also expecting or talking about it and since those two were also talking about it as well it only made sense to have those kind of facilities along with the regular hospital for all the Nerv employees. The proper way to run an organization and to keep them loyal is to take care of their needs. Maya and Ritsuko teased her about the coincidence and her loyalty comment smelling like a dairy farm for a while but also told her they were very happy that she was doing this. Be it personal reasons or not, if and when they had kids they would now be able to be close to them at all times. That was a very comforting idea. The three then decided to do some research into the subject and got up to check the Nerv personal files to find out who had kids. They wanted to hire only the best so they went to the people with the most experience in the subject, the parents. And the parents gladly gave them all the information they had as the idea of a free onsite daycare and nursery was appealing for them. Two weeks later most of the doctors, nurses, early childhood educators, and daycare workers that they wanted were hired and helping them come up with designs to facilitate the new goals.

 

At the same time over at the school “Stand, Bow, Dismissed” the class rep said as she dismissed the class for lunch.

“See you guys in an hour” Shinji said as he gave Asuka a little kiss on the cheek and waved goodbye to the others.

“Where's he going?” Touji asked Asuka and Rei.

“Kaji is picking him up to go to the dentist” Asuka answered.

“Man, I hate going to the dentist” Touji quickly shot back.

Asuka answered with some sarcasm “So do I, but Shinji doesn't mind. He just closes his eyes and lets the dentist go to work. Then again he has never had a cavity in his life.” This led to the other the kids each telling their own horror stories about past visits to the dentist while they ate lunch outside.

Halfway through lunch Asuka felt a slight but very odd breeze. It scared her and she immediately stood up straight and in a very distressed voice said “Something is wrong.” She didn't even explain herself as she ran straight into the school towards the class room to get her cell phone from her backpack. Rei was close behind as she felt something was wrong to. Hikari, Touji, and Kensuke were very confused but seeing the panic on Asuka and Rei's face was enough for them to become concerned and they followed them.

 

At Nerv Misato was talking with some of Nerv's newest employees about how they wanted certain areas set up and remolded by the crew when she felt an intense wave of panic come over her. An agent then ran up to her and in a very exhausted voice said “There's been an accident.”

Misato immediately sounded the medical emergency alarms. The agent caught a breath and continued “Kaji was taking Shinji to his appointment when another car broadsided them. That's all we know right now.”

A second later Misato's cell phone rang. She answered while already in tears and heard immediately “Misato there has been an accident, they're taking Shinji to the city hospital right now.” It was obvious Kaji was also in pain as he told her this.

She asked with great distress in her voice “Is my baby okay?”

Kaji replied in a tone “I don't know, he was unconscious when they took him away.” In a louder voice he continued “Get Nerv's doctors over to the hospital right away.” Misato gave the orders and within seconds several Nerv vans took off towards the hospital with an additional one headed for the school.

 

Inside one of the vans both Ritsuko and Maya were holding a crying Misato as Kaji was filling them in on everything that was happening that he knew of. When she asked him if he was all right he just said his leg was broken and he would be fine.

“Why aren't you at the hospital yet?” Misato cried out.

“Because the drunk little fucker who hit us ran off after the accident and I want to find him first” Kaji said with intense anger in his voice now.

In a fraction of a second Misato's voice turned to intense anger as she said “Don't finish him off, I want a shot at him.”

Kaji agreed as he knew Misato would do much worse things to the bastard than he would. The other two women around her became very frightened at this turn of events as they knew what she was really capable of. And the proof of that was still lying in a hospital somewhere in America, hooked up to machines to keep him alive while he was in a deep comma. All the demons in Misato's life has changed when she was put in charge of Shinji and Asuka. They now manifested themselves in a very intense urge to protect the ones she loved. To hurt one of her babies was a crime of the most serious nature and the punishment was one that even the devil itself would fear. After he got off the radio with Misato, Kaji switched frequency to give orders to the agents in the area with specific instructions to make sure the little fucker didn't get away.

 

Back at school both Asuka and Rei were frantically trying to get a hold of anyone they could to find out what was wrong but every number they called was busy. Even the emergency numbers, which caused them to worry even more. They then heard a loud screech into the parking lot and saw a Nerv van speed up. Both Asuka and Rei rushed out to it immediately with the other guys not far behind them. Johnson threw open the van door as Asuka and Rei jumped in.

He was obviously distressed as he told them “There's been a car accident. Kaji's fine but Shinji's unconscious and on his way to the hospital.” Asuka broke right there and then as she started crying. She had finally found happiness, losing the source of that happiness couldn't happen. Rei started crying too and held her. The other children then jumped in the van a second later and Johnson took off towards the hospital as fast as he could. He was relaying everything he was being told as he sped towards the hospital to try and keep them informed, but he himself was obviously worried and you could tell by his voice. In the back seats Hikari and Touji were holding an absolutely distraught and heavily crying Asuka trying to tell her everything was going to be okay, while Kensuke was doing the same with Rei. It was having no effect though as the thought of losing Shinji was more than either girl could bare. The other children trying to console them weren't doing much better as they all had tears in their eyes as well.

 

At the hospital the other vans arrived and Ritsuko and her team rushed to the area were Shinji was and took over. Misato was in the room as the doctors went to work, relaying everything that was going on while struggling not to break down a cry as she saw Shinji on the operating table. When the van with the kids got to the hospital Asuka and Rei ran straight to the operating room where Shinji was. Misato was there outside the room with tears streaming down her face, she couldn't handle seeing him on that table anymore. She ran up to the both of them and held them tightly. While crying she told them “Shinji is still in surgery right now. I- I don't know anything else. I'm too afraid to find out.”

Asuka cried “I need to see him.” Misato released her so she could go to him.

 

The hospital administration was not happy with the situation. Nerv had come in and taken over their hospital and now they had sent out all their orderlies and guards to get the area back under their control. So when a heart broken Asuka tried to enter the surgery room a large orderly stepped in front of her and in a firm voice said “This area is off limits to you.” The orderly then felt two large hands clamp down hard on him and he was picked up and thrown through the air. Asuka then entered the surgery room.

Johnson walked up to where he threw the orderly and stepped on his chest. “You will let her go anywhere she wants to.” Some more guards and orderlies arrived to try and get control of the area but Johnson and the other agents all pulled their guns.

Misato gave a serious series of commands “This is a Nerv situation. All control is mine. Any resistance will be handled forcibly.” The purple haired woman standing there with tears in her eyes while also displaying a look that definitely said she meant what she told them forced the guards and orderlies to back down. No one wanted to argue with her for fear of the consequences and the administration surrendered complete control of the situation to Misato.

 

Ritsuko saw Asuka enter the room and ordered a nurse to put a mask and gown on her. Once that was done she had Asuka brought over to her. As Ritsuko and the others worked on Shinji she explained to her that Shinji was in shock when they brought him in and that was why he was unconscious. Also he had a couple broken or cracked ribs and some very deep bruising along with some deep lacerations to his arm. Right now they were taking out pieces of glass imbedded into his body. She saw Asuka's eyes were still full of tears and told her that as bad as it looked Shinji was going to be okay and she expected a full recovery out of him. Asuka's tears let up slightly when she was told this, but since he wasn't awake and she couldn't see his eyes she was still very worried and crying. Ritsuko let her stay there holding Shinji's hand while they finished up on him. Then she told one of the nurses to go outside and inform the others the news. Misato, Rei, the other children, along with the rest of the Nerv personal were all greatly relieved at the latest news.

 

Just then two agents dragged in a man with his knee blown out. Emergency personal immediately rushed over.

Kaji, with a stint on his leg, ordered the two agents “Follow him. If he even twitches, blow out his other knee.” He waved off the medical personal that were trying to help him and limped over to Misato. “He wouldn't stop running, so I stopped him. Is Shinji okay?” Misato explained the situation and told him the latest news and he too was greatly relieved. Misato then ordered him to let the staff attend to his injuries as well. He was hurt too and he did his job so it was time for him to let others do theirs. He finally relented and let them.

 

After the medical team was finished working on Shinji they moved him to a private room to recover. Asuka was with them and never let go of Shinji's hand the whole way. Misato and the others weren't far behind and when they entered his room they saw Asuka holding his hand and crying lightly over him. Ritsuko told them that he would still be out for another hour as the anesthesia wore off. Misato had everyone leave. She wanted to be with him too very badly but she knew that this should be a private reunion between Asuka and Shinji.

 

Asuka was crying while holding Shinji's hand when she felt him grip her back.

In a weak voice Shinji said “Please stop crying and kiss me so I can see you and not the hospital ceiling when I open my eyes.” Asuka immediately got up and kissed him passionately, and as Shinji opened his eyes he gazed into the most beautiful blue eyes that he knew existed. And he was happy. Asuka then threw her arms around him but stopped when she noticed tears of pain in his eyes as they kissed.

“I'm sorry Shinji, did I hurt you?” Asuka asked in a very worried but tender voice.

“Only a little but the kiss was well worth it” Shinji said to her and smiled weakly. “What happened and why am I here?”

He barely remembered the accident as it happened so quick and the rest was all a blur. Asuka filled Shinji in on everything that had happened and after she told him everything Shinji had Asuka take a note, which she was not happy with, so she wrote a second one that would make her happy again. She opened the door to his room slightly and placed both notes on the door handle. She then shut the door again and you could hear a locking sound come from it. Misato got up and read the first note.

 

Shinji is okay. But he is being a spoilsport and says we have to

turn the asshole who caused this over to the authorities. He also

said to do it now and that neither of us or Rei can have a talk

with him first.

I don't like this decision either but he said it wasn't open to debate

So we just have to do it.

Also read note 2 and obey.

 

Misato growled a little and handed the note to Rei who also growled as she read it. Both were very dissatisfied but did what Shinji wanted them to do and let the police take control of the situation. The police themselves were a little disappointed as they thought whatever Misato was planning was going to be fine by them. Misato read the second note Asuka put on the door handle.

 

DO NOT ENTER FOR TWO HOURS BY THE ORDERS

OF NURSE ASUKA!!!!!

 

Misato stared at the second note for a minute. At first she was going to barge in a stop the two but she eventually decided that was likely to cause more trouble than anything Asuka was planning, and that Shinji would much rather be attended to by Asuka than anyone else.

Misato rolled her eyes and said “C'mon everyone Shinji's fine. But thanks to that spoiled brat in there we now have two hours to kill before we can see him. So lets get something to eat and try to calm down.” With that the gaggle of people left for the cafeteria.

Back in the room “Now that I know what hurts, it is time for nurse Asuka to do a complete checkup on what doesn't” Asuka said in a very temptress voice. Asuka's medical instrument of choice for her exam was her lips. And she kissed every boo boo that he had away along with many other things.

 

After two hours were up Misato and the others returned. When they got to the room they found the notes on the doors were gone so they entered the room. As they went in Rei had Kensuke snap a picture. She thought the scene would make a nice painting. Misato walked over to the bed where Asuka and Shinji were holding each other while sleeping. She gently nudged both of them to wake them up.

“I don't care what you say, I'm not moving” Asuka said very defiantly and without moving an inch. Misato just laughed and said that company was here to see Shinji. Shinji sat up a little being careful not to make any sudden movements that might hurt him, or change Asuka's position as this was making him feel better than any of the medicine he took. Eventually though Misato did convince the two to separate for just a little while as others wanted to give him a hug as well. But not before Asuka warned “Only light hugs please.” as she did not want anyone repeating her earlier mistake. After he had convinced everyone that he was fine, Misato Rei and Asuka took a lot of convincing and never really believed him, he asked when he could go home because he didn't like it at the hospital. It brought up too many bad memories for him.

Ritsuko was standing in the doorway and answered his question “In a day or two, depending on your progress.” Both Asuka and Rei shot daggers from their eyes at Ritsuko for what she said.

Ritsuko relented “Okay enough with the eyes, he can go home tonight. But he is to be bedridden for the rest of the week. Plus I will be stopping by everyday to check up on him to make sure he is fine and I want someone by his side the whole time just in case. Do I make myself clear you two?” When she finished saying that she noticed Rei was happy again and Asuka appeared very happy as both of them nodded their heads yes. Misato on the other hand was now glaring at her.

To solve this problem Ritsuko looked at Asuka and declared “No more Nurse Asuka either.” That made Misato happy again, but Asuka was now pouting and Shinji was shooting daggers from his eyes at her.

“I just can't win” Ritsuko sighed as she walked out of the room knowing there was no solution that would make everyone happy.

 

At home Misato had Shinji put straight to bed and told Kaji that he was now on vacation for the rest of the week, and she put him to bed as well. She then sat down at the kitchen table with the girls. “Since I doubt I could actually get either one of you to go to school for the rest of the week, you two will be in charge of watching Shinji, Kaji, and doing the cooking and cleaning.”

Asuka said she would do the cooking as she actually did help Shinji once in awhile, besides her usual way. Rei said she would do the laundry, as since she started wearing thong underwear she had to wash and fold her own clothes anyways because Shinji refused to do it. They then split up the rest of the chores. It had been a very long and emotionally draining day for all of them and Misato said she was going to bed and that the girls should do the same. Rei headed towards her room and Asuka headed towards Shinji's.

“Asuka, I believe your room is on the other side of the apartment” Misato said pointing towards Asuka's room.

Asuka answered plainly, although with a hint of smugness “I know, but Ritsuko said someone needs to be with Shinji at all times.”

Misato frowned as she new Asuka was right but she did add “Remember, NO Nurse Asuka.”

Asuka knew Misato was very serious by the way she said no, so she agreed “No Nurse Asuka.” Misato and Asuka then went to bed.

 

In the middle of the night Misato got out of bed for a little midnight snack and to check up on Shinji. Even though Shinji was pretty banged up Misato still found him holding Asuka tightly in his arms as they slept. She looked down at her tummy and said “Their talk is coming very soon now little one.” She then got herself a little snack. Before she could go back to bed though Kaji limped out of the room and went to check on Shinji. After he was satisfied with what he saw he went over to Rei's room and checked up on her as well. Finally he limped his way over to Misato and held her from behind. Life had just given her a big scare but now it was over so she leaned her head back against his chest and depended on his strength to help her get back to her room. She fell asleep in the same position of Asuka as she needed to be held right now too.

 

In the morning Misato woke up to find Rei watching over Shinji as Asuka cooked breakfast. She even found waiting for her a bowl of cereal, juice, milk, toast, and fruit. She looked over at Asuka with expecting eyes.

Asuka told her “You get your cookies and syrup AFTER you eat your breakfast.” Misato laughed as it was obvious Shinji had already gotten to her and explained her usual breakfast routine. After she was finished with her healthy breakfast Asuka gave Misato her special treat and took Shinji his breakfast. Rei then came out and grabbed some breakfast as well. Misato explained to her that Kaji would probably sleep till noon and that all they needed to do for him was turn on Sportcenter and give him some lunch and a beer. They both heard a “Wark” from PenPen's fridge.

“Oh yeah, give him a beer as well” Misato said with a chuckle. She switched over to a more serious tone and said “Ritsuko will be over in an hour to check on Shinji. She has to change his bandages and give him another checkup. I want both of you to pay close attention to her as you two may both have to change his bandages from time to time as well.” Rei assured her that both she and Asuka would pay close attention, and that Shinji would be under the best care possible with them. With that reassurance Misato went and got a shower and got dressed. Before she left for work she checked on Shinji again to make sure he was okay. She didn't want to leave and she almost called into work to say she wasn't coming in but Shinji told her to go. There was a lot of people there depending on her too so she had to. After a couple tears and some pouting she headed off for work as she had a major remodeling project to get back to and more importantly some very nervous new employees that would need to be filled in and settled down.

 

Ritsuko came over in the morning and thoroughly checked over Shinji. She even removed another small shard of glass she found in his side. “Thank you” Kensuke said quietly and left to go find Rei.

Asuka walked back in as she saw Kensuke leave and asked Hikari and Touji “Has he been a little moody and quiet as well?”

They both answered “Yes.” All four got a little laugh out of that as it was a clear indication of how close the two really were now. After a nice conversation Asuka ushered Hikari and Touji out of Shinji's room and told Shinji to get some more sleep and shut his door.

When they were outside of his room Hikari asked “Shinji has always been good at hiding pain, how is he really?”

Asuka answered “He is hurting a lot. Some of the cuts in his arm are very deep and his ribs hurt him even as he breathes.” This was Asuka's breaking point, she had been very strong all day because she knew if Shinji saw her crying it would hurt him even more than his injuries. But now that she knew Shinji couldn't see or hear her she started sobbing.

Hikari hugged her and said “Shinji is one of the strongest persons I know. He has been hurt much worse than this many times during the wars and has always come back stronger. This will be no different.”

Asuka said while sobbing “I know, but I can't stand to see him in pain.”

Hikari and Touji said bye to Rei and Kensuke who were sitting together in the recliner as Kaji and PenPen had fallen back to sleep on the couch while watching TV. When Misato got home she saw Kensuke and Rei snuggled together in the chair sleeping, Kaji was still sleeping on the couch with the TV on, and when she checked on Shinji she found him and Asuka holding each other while sleeping as well. She closed the door quietly to make sure she didn't wake them. PenPen came up to her and quietly warked a hello.

Misato looked down at the penguin “I know you're hungry. It looks like it will be delivery tonight, so what are you in the mood for?” PenPen warked his answer back. “Teriyaki beef sounds good” Misato said and called out for delivery. She then walked over and gently woke up Rei and Kensuke. She told Kensuke “You better get home before your dad starts to worry.” Kensuke gave Rei a kiss goodbye and told her he would be back tomorrow. Once he left Rei filled Misato in on everything that had happened throughout the day while they waited for dinner to arrive. When the food arrived Rei set the table while Misato woke up Kaji. About halfway through dinner though Shinji's door opened. Both Asuka and Shinji came out, with Shinji leaning on Asuka as she helped him towards the table.

Misato stood up and in a firm voice asked “Just what do you think you are doing out of bed?”

Asuka added “Don't bother arguing, I already tried that. He is being very persistent.” Asuka then helped him into his chair and they all ate dinner together. They caught her drift and grabbed Kensuke and Rei and told them they were going shopping now. Rei took a quick look at Shinji and Asuka and understood the hurry to leave. Asuka made some tea while Shinji sat at the kitchen table. They invited Misato and Kaji over to come over. Both of their hearts fell to the floor, they knew this day was coming and they were ready for it but that didn't mean they wanted to have this conversation. “Don't worry they will be.” Kaji said trying to calm her down. “We have taught them very well. I am sure they are ready to handle this.” This did not have the calming effect he intended. The only thing it did was make Misato even more worried. She knew how Asuka's mind worked and after almost losing Shinji she knew that Asuka was going to prove how much she loved Shinji at the first chance she got. Asuka kissed him on his head and said “At least we will have plenty of extras if we don't get it right the first time.” Both of them knew that this was a distinct possibility as they had spent a lot of time taking not only to each other but to Misato and Kaji, and Hikari and Touji. Both couples had told them that the first time is not the magical experience some people claim it is. Hikari actually told her that her and Touji's first time was not that good and was more emotional than anything. So Shinji and Asuka both had a vague idea of what might be ahead of them.

Before they started anything Asuka said to Shinji “Under NO circumstances are you to say sorry Shin-Shin. I want this very badly and have accepted that it will hurt.”

Shinji interrupted her “I wish it wouldn't.”

“I know Shinji so do I” Asuka said to him tenderly “But you have to understand not all pain is the same. The pain I am going to feel will be based on our love for one another, which is why I have accepted it.” Asuka then started kissing him to signal she was ready.

They started to remove each others clothing while they kissed and when they were both naked Asuka suggested that they practice putting on the condom first. She sat Shinji down on her bed and gently started to kiss and tease the tip of him with her tongue. Like always Shinji reacted to Asuka's teasing quickly and Asuka handed him a condom. At first he had some problems putting it on, but Asuka looked at the package and gave him a hand. She then took it off him and repeated her enticement on him for a little bit before handing him another one. This time he got it on right.

“Good job” Asuka said and she rewarded him by taking off the condom and once again repeating her enticement.

Shinji stopped her and said that since he was now ready it was her turn and he slowly started to kiss and tease her nipples while fondling her breasts. While he did this he slipped his hand between her legs and gently messaged her. When he started to feel her getting wet, he kissed his way down between her legs and started to orally pleasure her. Asuka reached up to pull him close to her and cried out “Please don't stop.” Shinji laid down on her so they would be very close and could look directly into each other's eyes. He then pushed into Asuka and took her. Shinji saw tears rolling from Asuka's eyes as he continued to enter her. He wanted desperately to stop but knew this would hurt Asuka much more as he knew Asuka wanted this very much. She needed to prove something to both herself and Shinji that she was capable of this kind of love. When he finally was fully in her she wrapped her arms around him and held him tightly. They never broke their eye contact during any of this and they stayed together like this for a while. Asuka's inside were fighting against her as they shot little bolts of pain throughout her. As more tears came out of her eyes she saw Shinji start to cry as well. She suddenly realized she was holding him very tightly around his broken ribs, but as she started to loosen her grip he stopped her and said “If you have to feel pain, then so do I.” He then had her hold him tighter. They locked into a passionate kiss to fight off the pain they both now had coursing through their body. After the kiss ended they stared into each other's eyes again, letting their tears mix together. Asuka blinked slowly, signaling Shinji it was time for him to pull out. Shinji slowly pulled out and this too caused her a little pain but not nearly as much as when he first entered.

When he was finally out she said in a voice of both pain and emotional fulfillment “Thank you” and kissed him. He had done exactly what she had wanted him to do. He didn't take her a ravage her or be rough with her, he was careful and treated her like the fragile little girl she really was inside. After the kiss ended they both collapsed from emotional exhaustion.

 

They laid next to each other, starring at the ceiling for a long time, until Shinji said sarcastically “So was it as good for you as it was for me?”

Asuka laughed and rolled over to give Shinji a kiss and responded “Unfortunately yes.” Shinji laughed as well. Asuka then sat up and checked Shinji's ribs to make sure she didn't cause any further damage. And after she was convinced he was fine, she let him get up as well. But as he got up he let out a huge sigh of frustration as he noticed the blood on his condom with some more on the bed sheets and some also between Asuka's legs.

“I really wished Misato was going to be wrong about that part.” Shinji said shaking his head in disappointment as he really did not want to see that.

Asuka sighed “So did I.” She then got up and said she was going to clean herself up while Shinji cleaned up the condoms and the bed sheets. When Shinji finished putting the sheets in the wash he grabbed Asuka's robe and brought it over to her. As he entered the bathroom Asuka was just finishing cleaning herself up.

“Not as much blood as I thought, and I already am starting to feel better inside.” Asuka said and put on her robe.

“Good” Shinji replied in a more relieved tone, and went and got his robe as well. Shinji then made some tea for them and as they drank the tea they discussed how they were feeling during the first time, and how they now felt after it. Happily they both said they felt much closer together and more in love than ever. (A/N: Remember that statement I made about not being super sappy; it just flew out the window.) Shinji even teased her he was now going to put a ring on her finger. Asuka teased back that it could only be put on her right hand and that it couldn't be a diamond. Shinji tried his puppy dog eyes on her, but Asuka just said “You only have to wait a year and a couple weeks for the other one” and reached across the table to beep his nose. After they finished their tea Asuka said she was feeling a little bit tired so Shinji picked her up and carried her to his room where they took a little nap together.

 

At noon Shinji woke up, put Asuka's sheets in the dryer, and made a light lunch for the both of them. Asuka got up shortly afterwards and joined him at the table. When the dryer went off Shinji remade Asuka's bed and took out the garbage to erase all the evidence. When he got back Asuka was not at the kitchen table. He looked around and noticed Asuka standing in her doorway, naked and holding a condom.

“The only way we are going to get better at this is to practice” Asuka said in a tantalizing voice while summoning him over with her finger.

“Are you sure we should be doing this again already, don't you still hurt?” Shinji said hesitantly.

“I don't know, but I want to find out. And no I don't” Asuka said answering both his questions. She then reached down and fondled him while saying “I can tell you're ready though” and put a condom on him. She led him back to her bed and laid back down.

“Start very slowly” she instructed him. Shinji did what she said and slowly inserted himself into her. He felt some of the same resistance as he did earlier and slowed down even more. Asuka herself was feeling pain again, but not nearly as much as the first time. When Shinji was fully in her she had him stop again so her body could get better used to him. She then instructed him to slowly pull out and reenter. Each time he did this he felt less resistance and she felt less pain. Eventually the resistance her insides was giving him turned into a tight reception that was very inviting and very arousing. He could easily get lost in that feeling. As he kept going Asuka started to moan. What was once pain and discomfort had now changed to complete acceptance and extreme pleasure. In-between breaths Asuka said “That definitely….makes the first time…worth it.”

Shinji responded between breaths as well “Ye… Yes.”

 

They were laying next to each other holding hands and trying to catch up with their emotions and breaths when Asuka asked “How long till Rei gets home from school?”

Shinji looked over at the clock and answered “In a little over an hour.” A devilish grin came over Asuka and she crawled on top of him. She instructed Shinji to prop up his head and back with pillows.

“What are you up to?” Shinji said curiously as he noticed Asuka grab another condom.

“I'm going to ride your baloney pony” she said very happily.

“My What?” Shinji said in a confused voice.

Asuka repeated herself “I am going to ride you baloney pony.” She then tore open the condom package with her teeth and bounced on him to get his full attention.

Shinji said “I don't think I can…” but was proven wrong when Asuka bounced again.

“I think you can” she said with a large smile and slipped the condom on him. She slowly lowered herself down onto him until he was fully inside of her. She then started to bounce slowly for a while till she got the hang of it and when she got the technique down she went into a full ride. Shinji was very confused. Since he was propped up he didn't know what to look at. The sight of her ridding him or the sight of her perfect breasts bouncing in front of him. Both were intensely intriguing and hard not to focus on.

Asuka answered his question for him as she grabbed his hands, licked his fingers, and placed them on her nipples. As they were lying down on their backs trying to catch their breaths again, Asuka asked “So did you enjoy the ride? After the kiss ended they looked at the clock and unfortunately decided they had to get dressed. Asuka said she would handle the sheets this time while Shinji went and disposed of the evidence.

After the sheets were in the wash and the evidence disposed of they sat at the kitchen table with a snack. They had kind of tired each other out and were a bit hungry. But before they could even start Rei skipped into the house with a huge smile on her face.

And with a slightly strained voice she squeaked very perkily “Hi.”

“I see you had a good day at school” Asuka said with a little suspicion as without Kensuke, she was way too happy. And she had heard Rei use that voice before, but only after being with Kensuke for an extended period of time.

“Almost as good as yours” Rei said back and noted that the two were still flustered and sweaty. Shinji and Asuka both blushed.

Rei laughed and told them “Don't worry about it or school. Kensuke is going to change our records on the computer to show we were there today.”

“OUR” both Shinji and Asuka said together. Rei had to blush herself at that.

She sat down at the table with them and asked “Can I talk to you about something?” Shinji started to get up and leave as he figured a private girl talk was coming, but Rei told him to sit back down as she needed his input as well. She also reminded him that a true big brother is respectful and helps his little sister when she needs it the most. She said this more as a warning to Shinji that he might not like everything she was about to tell him but that he needed to accept that it was happening.

“I didn't go to school today.” Rei started “Kensuke and I went to his house for the day, and we went a step further.”

“That would explain your voice” Asuka said with a smile.

 

Shinji winced at this comment. He had found out Rei was a screamer the hardest way a brother could. A couple months ago he came home early from a Nerv function with Asuka and heard Rei scream as he came into the apartment. Asuka tried to stop him but he ran to Rei's room to see if she was alright, just to find her and Kensuke both in their underwear while in a very compromising position. He shut the door quickly and turned around with a horrified look on his face. As he looked toward Asuka for an answer he saw she was on the ground laughing. While laughing though she managed to say “Rei is a screamer.”

And from inside her room Rei yelled out “Sorry big brother but Asuka's right.” Shinji then heard both Rei and Kensuke start laughing.

 

Both Asuka and Rei giggled at his wince, as they found that situation hilarious. They stopped though as this was supposed to be a serious conversation.

Rei took a deep breath and exhaled. She looked at them and said “While Kensuke and I were having fun, I kinda found myself over his lap while we were both naked.” Both Asuka's and Shinji's eyes opened widely at her comment.

“You're still a virgin?” Shinji asked in a concerned voice.

“Yes, we both jumped out of the way just in time but our two parts did touch.” Rei answered him. Both Asuka and Shinji breathed a sigh of relief.

Asuka told her “You need to be more careful next time. That is not how you want to lose your virginity.”

“I know. We already made rules about that kind of position and both of us being naked, but what I want to talk to you about is...” she stopped as she didn't quite know how to put what she was feeling into words. After thinking for a couple of minutes Rei started a different way “In the brief time that our parts touched we both felt very strong emotions that it was right. Also I told him my true background and he didn't even care. He just told me that he loved me and that's all that mattered.” Rei started to cry a little, more out of joy than anything, when she said that. Asuka got up and gave her a hug and Shinji was very proud of Kensuke. He knew most men would have reacted badly to her story and ran, but Kensuke didn't. He even responded with an answer that was honorable and loving.

Shinji looked at Rei and asked “You two are ready to prove your soulmates, aren't you?”

Rei nodded her head yes. She wanted to prove it to him so bad she was wondering if she wouldn't sneak out tonight to do it. Asuka's next question snapped her out of that thinking.

“So when are you going to talk with Misato and Kaji?”

After sighing she answered with what Kensuke and her decided on “Saturday evening”

Asuka told her with a smile “Shinji has to take me ring shopping, so we will make sure were gone for a while then.” Rei looked at Asuka with a very odd but funny expression. “Despite Shinji's insistence, not that ring. More like a promise ring.” Asuka said clearing up her previous statement. Shinji grumbled at that a little and both of the girls laughed as they could tell what he really wanted but that he was going to have to wait.

With some hesitation Rei then asked while blushing “I know you guys just did it, what was it like?” Both Shinji and Asuka looked at each other for a minute trying to find the right words.

Asuka said “Awkward, painful, and emotionally gut wrenching.”

Shinji added “It will be the same for him, but the pain will be emotional. Especially when he sees the blood.” The wince Shinji did after saying that helped Rei understand what he was saying so she made a mental note to go over that part with Kensuke before they started.

Asuka said though, trying to relieve some of the fear she could tell Rei was now feeling “It does get a lot better after the first time.”

 

They talked about the subject further until the washer timer went off. “Oh yeah, make sure you clean up after yourself and dispose of the evidence afterwards.” Asuka told her as she put the sheets in the dryer. When the sheets were done Rei helped Asuka make her bed while asking some more feminine questions.

When they were done talking they went back to the kitchen where Shinji was just starting to take things out for dinner. They heard a knocking from inside PenPen's fridge. Asuka remembered that she ordered PenPen to his fridge and not to come back out till she said so before they pretended to leave for school.

Asuka said very nicely “Sorry PenPen, you can come out now.”

PenPen jumped out and let her have an angry “WARK.”

Asuka picked him up and carried him to the couch and turned sports on for him. “If I get you a beer will you forgive me?” Asuka asked.

PenPen warked and nodded yes.

“So how many beers do you want for your silence?” Shinji asked from the kitchen.

PenPen warked twice.

So Asuka brought him three beers and a shot of left over bourbon from the bachelor party as a thank you.

 

Misato came home and found Rei and Asuka talking at the kitchen table, while Shinji was cooking dinner. That was normal, but the drunken penguin staggering towards her and hiccupping at her instead of warking, wasn't.

“So how much did it cost to pay off my lush of a penguin,” Misato said while frowning. The children pointed at the living room coffee table.

“Three beers and a shot of hard liquor, you must be slipping PenPen. It used to take four beers and two shots of the hard stuff to silence you.” Misato laughed at him. PenPen took great offense at this but passed out as he tried to raise his flipper at her.

“Kids do your pregnant mom a favor and drag her drunk penguin to his fridge” Misato asked. She then sat at the table why they did this favor and made sure that everything was alright with Shinji and Asuka as she already could tell what had just happened by the look in their eyes. Kaji came home shortly afterwards and Shinji served dinner.
