Soliloquy of Life: Chapter 10, Epilogue

A/N: I wrote about 5,000 words worth of a chapter ten and realized that this fanfic was way beyond finished and chapter nine itself probably wasn't needed. I have decided not to torture you with the crap I wrote and just end this damn thing. So this is the happily ever after epilogue every one of you knew was coming because this stupid fic was nothing more than fluff created to be all happy happy joy joy. I would apologize for writing this but oddly enough I am not sorry. Maybe I wrote this as a revenge piece against Eva for messing with my mind, or it could be I was sick of crappy endings in anime, or maybe I did this for no other reason than doing it. I don't really know and since I am writing this chapter a year after I threw away what was supposed to be chapter ten, I don't care. And truthfully the only reason this thing is getting an epilogue is because I finished a different fic, I don't want to work on the other three I started right now, and I am bored out of my skull. Now lets just see what kind of epilogue this turns out to be and how many holes I create doing this because it has been a good six months since I last read any part of this fic.

The kid's final year of high school went a little more smoothly than their junior year. Sure there was a minor squabble or two along the way but nothing too interesting. The biggest thing that happened was upon high school graduation all three couples got a present from Misato. Their very own apartments, in the same building of course. The best part was that each of the apartments had something hanging in the closest. One apartment had a red plugsuit, another had a white one, and the third has a yellow one. The, now newly considered adults, all celebrated by not leaving their apartments for a week.

The biggest surprise arguably was that Shinji wasn't going to college. He decided that it wasn't for him and he wanted to put his best talent to work for him. So he enrolled at the Tokyo3 culinary institute. Shinji was going to become a chef. At first Misato had a little problem with that as she wanted him to get a college education because he was smart enough too but after a while she gave her full blessings as it was Shinji's life and he should pick a future that would make him happy. Asuka herself didn't really care as he wasn't going to be in any of her classes anyway. She was going back to college to get a PHD in medicine. Plus Shinji gave her this news only a day after her 18th birthday. And Asuka's birthday present was a very big diamond ring that was cut into a rose. It came complete with a wedding ban but Misato snatched that accessory part away until after Asuka got at least her masters and Shinji finished culinary school. So two years later with a masters in Asuka's hand and Shinji finished culinary school they got married. After a one month honeymoon Asuka went back to college to start on her PHD. Shinji got a job at a local restaurant and became a line chef working his way up to assistant head chef in the four years it took Asuka to finish her residency. For someone of Asuka's gifts and intellectual aptitude this should have taken less time but Shinji and her had a little interruption come up. Mainly they had reached the limit of time on their deal with Misato and at 23 Asuka spit out a baby boy. In the beginning it was more hectic than they thought it would be but with some help from a happy grandma they got a good handle on things. With her doctorate in hand Asuka went to work for the same place she had interned at. Nerv's neonatal health research department. Ritsuko was extremely pleased at this because Asuka was just as smart and devoted to this area as she was. Shinji became head chef at the restaurant he worked for when he was 26. He stayed there in that position for two more years until everything was situated after becoming a proud papa again, this time of a little girl. At age 29 he decided he wanted to follow a dream. Asuka was set up pretty well with her career so he took a chance and started his own restaurant. He proved the old adage of location, location, location was very true. He chose a run down restaurant that had closed some years before due to a lack of business. But before it didn't have the burgeoning Nerv Corporation next door. His restaurant had no lack of customers now. It was very busy and very popular. In fact the lunch crowd was the biggest time of day for him. His gamble paid off and in only a matter of ten years he had five restaurants around the city. Each serving a different niche of society. He named them after the important woman in his life. Asuka, Misato, Rei, Yui, and Kyoko. Asuka on the other hand enjoyed not being a huge success in the public eye like she wanted to when she was 14. It was good enough for her to only be a huge success in the medical world where Ritsuko and her got a Nobel Prize for some of their research. But most of all she was happy to be a devoted mother and wife. Her children and Shinji brought her more happiness than anything else. She had grown up and realized what was truly important, family. That and sex with Shinji could be an out of this world experience to her. That's the advantage of having a lover who knows you so well.

Rei and Kensuke took the more normal route in life. After high school they both went to college and got degrees. Rei got a degree in art and Kensuke got a degree in computer science. After graduating they got married and went out into the world to find careers. Rei found hers working at a add agency, while also staying true to her talents as she had a little art studio in a trendy part of town. Kensuke went exactly where everyone told him he had to go. Nerv. He became a computer technician and replaced Shigeru when he left. Him and the Magi system got along very well and it was a career he very much enjoyed. Although every once in a while a blue haired minx would show up at work and remind him what he loved most of all. At those times it was better to vacate the area unless you had a pair of earplugs because Rei was not shy about letting everyone know she was happy. She actually found out she could scream even louder but it only happened once. And that was enough as Kensuke, Rei, and their daughter was as big of a family as they wanted. Rei did achieve a little bit of notoriety as some of her paintings became somewhat of a local source of pride. But they weren't the ones she was proud of the most. In her studio she had a corner dedicated to her favorite ones. The biggest one was actually three pictures linked together. The one on the right was a picture of a raging storm above the sea while below in the water was a picturesque calmness. In the middle of all this was a bubble with a white aura around it. In the bubble was two figures that transcended their surroundings. Just floating there in the middle of everything was Asuka and Shinji. Shinji was floating behind Asuka with his hands wrapped around her while Asuka had one gentle hand on his cheek. She was caressing it while they shared a passionate kiss. The picture on the right was one she had to cheat on. She originally only wanted chance encounter pictures for this idea of hers but couldn't quite get what she wanted. So on the last day of school for the kids she whispered a request to Hikari. No sooner than she asked this request did Hikari deliver. She got up, marched over to Touji, turned him sideways in his seat, straddled him, and planted a deep kiss on his lips. Touji had no idea being a model for a painting could be so enjoyable. So the painting on the left was a painting of those two kissing in the middle of a busy classroom scene. But they were removed from the scene as a aura of light surrounded them and they were in their own little world while everyone else went about their busy way. The picture in the middle had a anarchic red border. The brush strokes were of no true nature and seemed to symbolize all different kinds of emotions. Into this red border cut a dark blue aura, and as you moved away from the chaotic interface between the red and the blue it got lighter in color until the blue faded into white. In this area of light was Rei and Kensuke kissing in the halls of Nerv for the first time. The other picture she had painted was of a purple haired woman breast feeding her baby. Behind the woman stood a dark haired man gazing down upon the child while holding the woman. The painting itself was a bit muddled and muted and you couldn't tell who the subjects were but if you were part of her family, you knew. (A/N: Don't ever expect to see any of these pictures. I have zero skills when it comes to art.)

Hikari and Touji went off to college together as well but Touji only stayed a year. He was drafted by the local professional baseball team in the third round and went pro. So while Hikari was in college getting an MBA he played baseball. He was a decent player, nothing really special, and had an enjoyable first three years in the pros. His last two tried his patience. For in his last two he got traded to a team up in Hokkaido. The only reason he stayed was because Hikari was very busy getting her masters while interning at Nerv. Once she was done with that he quit his pro baseball career. He could have continued but that would have meant getting traded around as he was a good utility hitter that had fielding skills. Those kinds of players generally have long careers in pro ball but they come at the cost of not being tied down to one team. He wanted some stability in his life for him and his wife, plus she was hinting about a family too so he went out and found a local job. He became the baseball coach for his old high school's baseball team. The old coach had frayed a few too many parent's nerves with his coaching style and a replacement was needed. He got the job because one he was an ex-pro and knew them game and two he could also coach the girls soccer team in the spring and boys basketball team in the winter. His role as utility man paid off for him again. After graduating with a masters in business, Hikari had many options. Several companies offered her jobs but one was more persistent than the others. Misato was a very clever woman but Nerv was growing very large and at a fast rate. She needed someone with obvious leadership skills and potential to add to her team. Hikari was that girl. At first Hikari worked under Fuyutsuki, learning the ins and outs of the business world. She was a very quick learner and it was obvious she was on the management fast track. She took a little side track though in her late twenties to have two twin boys and then a girl the year later. But a year after she returned to work Fuyutsuki announced his retirement and that the decision on who was going to replace him was already made. The new executive vice president of the Nerv Corporation was Hikari. Despite her young age she was up to the task. And it was no surprise several years later when Misato stepped down, to become a full time mom, who the new President and CEO of Nerv was going to be. Hikari accepted the mantle of responsibility and Nerv grew into a fortune 100 company thanks to her leadership and the company's wide range of services that spanned from electronics to medical to private security to biotechnology and everything in-between. Diversity is a key to a successful business and Hikari knew it. While the company was very competitive in world economics the atmosphere itself was laid back. While most companies suffer from backstabbing and office politics, Nerv Corp was free of that. That had mainly to do with the board members of Nerv Corp. They all got along and there was no one trying to grab the reins of control from Hikari. The head of board was of course Hikari but the other members consisted of Misato, Fuyutsuki, Ritsuko, Kaji, Maya, Makoto, Kensuke, and Asuka. Hostile takeovers of Nerv Corp were nonexistent and would be that way as long as that core was together.

Misato and Kaji had a second kid two years after Mikomi. It was a little boy this time. And when Mikomi became a teenager Misato retired and became a full time mom to her two kids. Her two kids regretted this much more than she did, in fact she was happy she retired early. Mikomi had the habit of having boys follow her home and Misato wanted to make sure said boys never got in the home. This was easier to do when you are always around. She was the same way with the girls that followed her boy home. Dating was strictly forbidden until they were 16 and no matter how much arguing they did, that wasn't going to change. So for Kaji and Misato it was a normal family life. Which was exactly what they wanted.

Ritsuko had her twins and several months later she was at a girls lunch again when she told them her husband and her screwed up again. She got laughed at and some months later spit out a baby girl. The irony of the situation was a inside joke among Nerv personal. Ritsuko realized that in the future she should watch what she says about not wanting certain things. So Ritsuko had a family just like Misato used to, one boy and two girls, and couldn't have been happier about it. Although this time she made sure of no more happy accidents and went under a little procedure to protect against that.

Maya and Makoto ended up having four kids. Three boys and then finally a girl. After the last kid Maya changed her job to full time mom while Makoto brought home the bacon.

The funny thing about all of this was that almost everyone stuck around Tokyo3. No one really wanted to be away from each other and there was many times they would all get together to visit. The only person who was far away was Shigeru. But he had a legitimate excuse. He was the lead guitarist for a world famous rock band. It took him a while to achieve his dream but he did. He did try to get back home whenever he could and visit with all his friends but he was a busy man and whenever he did get back home he got teased about having a different supermodel on his arm. That wasn't exactly a bad thing in his opinion. (A/N: I kind of forgot about old Shigeru when I wrote this story. I think this ending more than makes up for it.)

(A/N: I bet you thought I forgot about Gendo when I wrote this. You're right, I did.) Gendo eventually recovered from his beating and woke from his coma. He awoke a changed man. But not in a good way. His body may have healed but his mind didn't and every time Shinji visited him Gendo would scream something about Unit-01 biting him in half and run off. Shinji would just shrug his shoulders at it and tell the mental institution staff to keep him there for another year.

After watching Cinderella the other day I have decided to end this story in the old fashioned way. And they all lived happily ever after.
