Chapter 6.

The Path of the Damned

==Flashback==

Asuka and Adam talked for what seemed like centuries. 'Asuka, by the time you get back, it may be too late. And if worse comes to worse, you may have to kill Ikari.' "You make it sound so hopeless. Knowing Shinji, he'll be reluctant to do anything with a strange being." Adam nodded, 'When you go back, you'll find that your abilities have been slightly hightened. I shall lend you some of my power, as it might be required to fend off the demon.' "Your not saying I'll be able to fly or something are you?" Adam chuckled 'No young one, you shall see what I mean when you return. Now go back to those that wait for you child.' "Adam?" 'Yes dear?' "Thank you." 'Your quite welcome.' And with that, the two were bathed ina white light, that shone brighter than the sun.

Doctor Santiago had seen many things in his life. Shrapnel wounds, bullet wounds, concussions, the works. But never before had he anticipated that a patient lying in a coma would suddenly jerk upwards into a sitting position. It was unfathomable, and unheard of in this hospital, so he never actually worried about it. But when Asuka Langley Sohryu suddenly sat up during one of her routine check-ups, needless to say, it scared him half to death. What followed was also shocked the doctor, as he had heard her utter his name before when she was up and around, but it was also followed by curses and strange owrds from another language, but this time it was a geniune question: "Where's Shinji?"

The news traveled like a plague, from nurses, to NERV staff, to the desk of one Misato Katsurgi. The phone rang a couple of times before she answered, "Katsuragi speaking." And then qas quickly slammed back onto the reciever, as she put on her jacket, and hurried towards the medical department, but not before snatching the arm of one Kensuke Aida, who had been sitting in a chair next to her desk, listening to her rant about how NERV is a top seceret organization, and how people have been executed for less. But finally, Misato had calmed down, until the phone rang. His teeth chattered, as he feard what she said was coming to pass. He was going to be executed.

Shinji on the other hand, had never run so hard in his entire life. He cleared steps at a time as he made his way towards the Ward. But halfway, he felt a presence in the back of his mind. 'What are you doing Shinji?' Idola called out to him. "Idola! You were right! Asuka came back! She's awake!" 'Shinji..Rei lied to you. She simply said that to make you lose your chance at greatness.' "What do you mean?" 'Dont you see? She didnt come with you. She's probably at the tablet now. Shinji, you need to take it before she does. Do you want to be constantly overlooked all your life?' "No..." an aparition of Idola appeard, and she carressed the young Ikari's face "Dont you want your mother to come back?" "Of course.." "Dont you want Asuka to come back, and love you, like you love her?" "Yes.." Idola started to pull out the big guns, as Shinji turned around, and began walking back. "Dont you want to get revenge on your father for making Asuka suffer like that?" and as she finished her sentence, Asuka's voice screamed in his head "HELP ME! IT'S RAPING MY MIND!" Shinji stomped as he marched back, the anger had taken over and overidden his judgement "I'll make that bastard pay..." The aparition of Idola faded, but not before she let a wicked smile slip.

Asuka had tried to get out of her hospital bed, but not walking for a few months can throw off ones leg strength, and she quickly hurried to meet the floor. But as her nose made contact with the marble flooring, the door opened to reveal Misato, and Kensuke Aida. "Misato?" "Asuka! Your awake!" and Asuka quickly found herself in a bear hug, but this time, it didnt hurt as much. She looked up and saw the awed Kensuke, sans camera, so it didnt bother her as much. "Why is THIS stooge here!?" Misato sighed and released her "It's a long story Asuka." "And where is the other stooge? And where's Shinji more importantly?" Misato's face faulted. 'Shinji? Important? The two words just dont get along with her voice.' And Kensuke felt likewise "Why do you wanna know Asuka? So you can make fun of him some more?"

"Shut your mouth Aida before I do it for you!" Her voice literally boomed, making the room shake some. Misato's mind was already reeling from the mental blow of hearing Asuka ask about Shinji without insulting him, but the fact that Asuka's voice just shook the room overloaded her brain, so her thought process shut down for a moment, and her comment reverted from "What the hell!?" to a dull-witted

"Uhhh...." Kensuke however, had shut his trap, and covered it with his hands, fearing the wrath of the red-head. Asuka was shaken as well 'What the hell did that thing do to me?' She looked to Misato "Where is Shinji?" Misato finally managed to shake off the cloud in her mind, and dial up Maya. "Hey, it's me, where's Shinji? Uh huh. What do you mean he just vanished? Where was he last? Alright. Ok. Bye." "Asuka's eyes twinkled EVER so slightly. "Is he coming?" Misato shook her head "He was headed towards the research department, looked like he had somethinon his mind. She sent Rei to go get him. He might be headed back now, cause Maya dosent see him on any of the cameras."

In which case point, Maya was looking at monitor 24, and camera 24 was looking at Shinji, but the monitor came up blank.

Asuka started to look around "Somethings wrong with the air..." Kensuke's face faultered slightly "He who smelt it, dealt it.." "NOT THAT YOU STOOGE!" Adam's voice came through her mind 'It's Idola...I sense it..it's close...and it's powerful..I sense something too...it's strong..but..it's not dark..' Asuka shakily stood up, "I have to find Shinji." Misato however, held her up, and back, "Are you crazy!? You cant go anywhere! We need to get doctors in here to make sure your alright. And what the hell is this sudden interest in Shinji!?"

Kensuke grinned evily "Makes me wish I had my camera. Dont tell me you finally realized you LIKED Ikari." "SHUT YOUR FUCKING MOUTH STOOGE!" That shout shook the room again, knocking the Major to her feet, and giving Asuka enough time to run by her, and the stunned Kensuke. Misato however didnt take that well, as she sat dazed and confused on the floor. "What...what the hell was that?" Kensuke took off his cracked glasses, and looked at Misato "An earthquake?" "Aida. No way in hell that was an earthquake..."

Asuka zoomed down the hallway at a pace she had never ran before. It seemed she was running twice as fast as she normally would. "What the hell did you do to me?" 'I gave you some of my remaining power to heighten your own body's abilities. It's only a short boost in short.' Two orderlies turned the corner in front of her, and stood there blocking her path. They had held back men twice their size, with the greatest of ease, so of course it shocked them when a 14 year old girl grabbed them by the collar, and flung them over her shoulders as if they were simply rocks. 'You have to get to where Shinji is.' "He's probably where I feel that bad sensation from...I'll head there."

Shinji stood before the quartz tablet, looking at the odd writings that it held. As he gazed, Idola's aparition stretched forth from the tablet, and held her arms out to him "Come to me Shinji, and I shall gant you the power that you so desire, and deserve. You'll be able to bring back Asuka, and you shall be free from your father's oppression!" Shinji reluctantly took a step forward. "After this..I want to see Asuka." "You will! You will!" Shinji outstretched his arms, stepping ever closer. "Thats it Shinji!"

Asuka rounded another corner, jumping down flights of stairs at a time, passing by the locker room, and then halting suddenly. She looked down, and realized that she was still in the hospital apron, and her backside lay completely exposed for the world to see. "I am NOT going to go down there like this!" 'Sohryu! WE HAVE NO TIME!' "Yes we do!" She then turned to the locker room, tore off her locker door, and proceeded to change into her plug suit.

Shinji took another step, wrapping his arms around Idola. He closed his eyes, and spoke softly "I wish I could be stronger than I am now." He opened his eyes and screamed, as Idola had turned from a beautiful woman, to a horrific looking shadow demon. "YOUR WISH SHALL BE GRANTED FOOL!" And with that, the black demon had changed into a vapor, flying into the mouth, ears, and nostrils of Shinji Ikari, who only managed to call out for his mother, before he felt control over his body, even his thought process be ripped away from him. His body fell over, and twitched violently, as a series of explosions shook NERV to it's very core.

Hyuuga was screaming at the top of his lungs "SIR! ENEMY FIRE CONFIRMED! IT'S THE JSDF!" Aoba followed suit "MULTIPLE AIRCRAFT DECTECTED! ETA IS 50 MINUTES!" Maya's voice joined the chorus of confusion "ENEMY IS HACKING INTO THE MAGI! I CANT EVEN GET THE 666 BARRIER TO WORK!" Gendo sat in his trademarked position, contemplating how SELEE warned him these measures would be taken, when all of a sudden Maya's voice rung out once more "SEMPAI! LOOK AT THIS!" Ritsuko rushed over, and looked at Maya's screens. All of them displayed 'WeEp. ThE EnD Is NiGh.'

Ritsuko looked to Maya "Is this the enemy's work?!" "I dont know Sempai!" Gendo pressed a button, and his desk retreatd downwards back towards hif office. 'All is NOT going to the scenario...'

Asuka was pissed. Not just because they had interuppted her finding Shinji, and not because she was halfway dressed into her plugsuit, but more because the explosions had knocked over several lockers. Some, right onto her position. The words she spouted as she worked to free herself could set a nun ablaze.

Shinji's body lay prone upon the floor for a few moments, before he slowly got to his feet, and dusted himself off. He let a wicked smile slip, as he turned, and faced the black patched man, who was also smiling wickedly. "Welcome back, Dark Falz." Shinji smiled, and opened his eyes. They had changed, his eyes, once a soft brownish color, were now black as coal, and if one were to gaze into them, they could literally feel the madness held within. Shinji snickered, then laughed maniacally.

Shinji was no longer Shinji, and the conciousness that WAS Shinji lay in a world of complete darkness, and silence. He spoke, and said nothing. He screamed, and said nothing. He simply laid there, and weeped in silence, and prayed for himself to wake up from this vicious nightmare. The demons looked at each other for a few minutes, before the black patched man spoke "Shall we begin?" Falz nodded "Yes Olga." Olga vanished into the floor, while Falz placed his hands into his pockets, and began making his way towards Gendo Ikari's office.
