Chapter 6: Route Canal

SEELE headquarters: Petra, Jordan

12 monoliths glowed red as the 12 members of SEELE convened in a darkened room inside the SEELE headquarters in Petra. The first monolith, otherwise known as SEELE-01, spoke first.

"Gentlemen. As you all know, the elimination of Impalakov by the IES has dealt a major blow to our position. All of our Russian allies have been either discovered or placed in the gulag by the Russian officials. This has placed us into a perilous position with the world governments. If they find out of our true motives, they will surely call the IES to eliminate us and stop the launch of the four horsemen. We cannot allow this to happen. Is the development of the new vehicle in Venice completed?"

" Yes. The development of the Wasserfall is now complete. We have already deployed a number of them in the Venetian canal system."

"Very well. I expect good results from this new development. I hope that the new wasserfall is capable of crushing Ikari's spawn like a flea." SEELE-01 paused. " How is the construction of the `Ark' coming along?"

"It is coming along quite nicely comrade. The compact energy cells have already been installed. We are already moving the much needed supplies to the ark by means of our VTOLs. We hope to finish the construction of the ark by 3 months time." Replied SEELE-12

"Very well. I hope that Agent Ikari does not interfere with our plans again." With that, all 12 winked out of existence.

IES headquarters: Frankfurt, Germany

After a long trip from Vladivostok, Russia, the IES team was now back to Frankfurt to take a rest and prepare for the upcoming missions. Colonel Katsuragi was reading the report from Vladivostok when an emergency link with the FLASH signal was opened.

"Major Katsuragi here."

"Major! We have received reports that there is heavy SEELE activity in Venice! Intelligence reports indicate that there are cargo ships carrying weapons and other supplies needed to aid SEELE's comrades. According to our satellite images, the canal is infested with SEELE agents and is guarding the transports. Reports also indicate that there are strategically placed communication trucks along the canal. If we want to eliminate SEELE we must begin here." Said IES Venice.

"Alright. How many people are needed there?"

"Preferably, this must be a one-man mission. Please send your best agent to guarantee the mission's success."

"Will do. I'll send Agent Ikari there."

"Roger that." The Head of IES Venice closed his link.

Colonel Katsuragi walked to the microphone and spoke.

"All Class-3 personnel, report to the briefing room immediately. I repeat…"

IES briefing room: IES headquarters

As soon as the IES team composed of Hikari, Toji, Kensuke, Rei, Shinji and Asuka were in the briefing room and fully seated. Misato was in the podium while Ritsuko was checking something in the slide that contains the vital information necessary to complete the mission.

"Shinji, I would like to commend you on the last mission you participated in. The elimination of Impalakov has somewhat lessened the risk of the IES bases suffering destruction. Unfortunately, something new came up."

She nooded to Ritsuko who flicked a switch, revealing the map of the whole Venetian canal system.

"What you see here is the Venetian canal system. The mission you will have to undertake is rather difficult. You see, the mission has three primary goals. The first goal is to scour the whole area and clean it free of SEELE agents." The screen revealed a blue truck that has a large satellite dish on the top." Second, you will have to eliminate the Satellite communications trucks. Third, is to place Global Positioning System trackers on each of the SEELE transports. I want you to be prepared in 20 minutes tops. The other IES team members will be piloting the airborne attack chopper SER-16 as escorts. The other pilots will not be allowed to fire unless it is necessary. Dismissed."

IES airfield: IES headquarters

The crew was quickly preparing for the attack. The techs were running back and forth preparing the choppers for launch. As Shinji got on the Interceptor, he turned on the ignition and rumbled out the airstrip. He waved to his friends before he stepped on the accelerator, making the Unit-01 move forward and into the Weapons aircraft.

Venetian Canal System: Venice, Italy

The weapons aircraft finally arrived to the meeting place to meet up with the IES weapons boat. His escorts, the rest of the IES team, is closely following behind. When they reached the LZ, Shinji's car rumbled down the ramp. He opened a link to the others.

"Okay guys, here's the plan. You are to escort me and eliminate anything that is chasing me. Okay?"

"This is Echo 1 to 5. We got it. We'll just form a defensive position on top of you."

"Roger that, Echo 1."

Shinji stepped on the accelerator and the Interceptor rumbled towards the first curve. As soon as he turned right, a group of Mortar things neared the interceptor and fired volley after volley of their mortars. The Enemy leader opened a link to the others.

"This is MT-01. Converge on the new A.O. Fire everything you got!" yelled the captain of the Mortar Things.

"Yes sir!"

The mortar things began to converge on him while still firing their mortars. Shinji swerved left and right, hoping to dodge the deadly mortars. As soon as he found a ramp leading towards the canal system, he eluded his pursuers and sped towards there. When he was clear from the ramp, the Interceptor changed into its speedboat mode. Several of the Mortar things pursued him from dry land until they found out that it was the end of the line when Shinji fired his cluster missiles. All that was left behind were debris from the Mortar things.

"Hmph, serves you right."

Shinji sped towards the canal. When he turned left, he saw Nostra agents in Venetian boats with their OICWs at the ready. As soon as he was in range, they fired their guns, causing minimal damage to the interceptor. The bullets bounced off the armor He grinned as he fired his machine guns, hitting most of the agents in their arms or torsos. The enemy leader, who was barely alive, opened a link to the other agents.

"He's here!"

Secret SEELE harbor: Venice, Italy

The said harbor is in a flurry of activity around a large boat that is similar to the leviathan but has a different paint scheme. The color was black with yellow stripes. Suddenly, the four jet thrusters at its back glowed blue as it gained power. Once it gained maximum power, the Wasserfall sped outside the harbor. The Wasserfall has been launched to give the IES team a fight of cataclysmic proportions.

Venetian Canal System: Venice, Italy

The IES team was now facing hordes of barrel dumpers. The barrel dumpers were barges of medium-size that dumps explosive barrels in front of the Interceptor, causing it to either veer to the opposite direction or forced into an obstacle. Shinji, getting slightly agitated, decided to activate his gattling cannons.

"Let's see how you eat lead!"

The Interceptor fired round after round of bullets, piercing through the thick armor of the barrel dumpers. Some of them pierced through the barrels, igniting the explosives within, causing some to flip over and land on the others.

"Shinji, you okay down there?"

"Yup. Never been better."

All conversations were cut off when they saw the first truck.

"Well, that's the target. Fire!"

The Interceptor and the other allied choppers fired their rocket pods. The resulting explosion caused the SEELE agents to panic, firing wildly at their directions. A quick burst of gattling cannon fire quickly silenced them. Shinji opened a link to the others.

"Well, that silenced them. I think we are gonna face some heavier resistance from now on."

"Yeah. Be careful Shinji."

"Okay Asuka. Just lead the others through the canal."

"Got it. We'll assume a defensive position around you."

The 5 choppers assumed a defensive position on top of Shinji. Asuka was Vanguard, Hikari and Toji were in the middle while Kensuke and Rei were on the back. After a few minutes, they saw the cargo ships with escorts around them. All of the defensive turrets of the Water Blade MkIIs turned to them.

"Looks like its too late for a stealthy approach. Fire everything you've got and avoid damaging the cargo ships!" Barked Shinji.

A chorus of `Roger' was heard over the link as they opened fire on the water blades. The water blades broke from their formations and surrounded the interceptor. Their side armor plates slid horizontally to the right as their diamond-blades began to rotate as they neared the interceptor.

"Oh crap. They're gonna damage my Interceptor. Gotta get rid of these pests!"

The Interceptor veered from left to right, hoping to avoid the blades. The IES choppers opened thei secret weapons bay to reveal their guided missile launchers. Once locked-on, they fired their missiles to the water blades surrounding Unit-01. Several of the water blades managed to dodge the missiles, but the others weren't so lucky. The others that did avoid the missiles were obliterated by Unit-01's rail gun. Once the coast was clear. Shinji and the others returned to their formations.

"Alright guys. I'll place the trackers now."

The Interceptor fired a small blue projectile that attached itself to the Cargo ship. Shinji did the same with the others.

"Alright. Let's continue on the primary objectives of this mission. I'll send a message to HQ reporting the successful installation of the tracking device.

IES headquarters: Frankfurt, Germany

Makoto and Shigeru were typing away at their consoles and running diagnostics on the MAGI when they received a transmission from Shinji. They quickly called Misato.

"Major, we have just received word from Shinji that he has already placed the GPS trackers on SEELE's cargo ships."

"Excellent. We will now be able to track where the transports are going."

Venetian Canal System: Venice, Italy

The crack IES team was now on their way towards the second part of their mission: The destruction of the satellite communications trucks. They have already eliminated one out of the 4 trucks they were supposed to destroy, leaving three left behind to destroy. As they were speeding through the Venetian canal system, they saw a large shadow by the curve. As they neared the curve, they saw the intimidating figure of the ship that is strikingly similar to the Leviathan.

`Is that the Leviathan?' Shinji asked himself. After a few moments of hesitation, he asked Leoni. "leoni, what is that thing? Is that the Leviathan?"

"Negative. That is not the Leviathan. That is the Wasserfall, named after one of the weapons of Germany in World War II. It is the Venetian variant of the Leviathan that is much more powerful then any other SEELE ship currently in service. The only weapon that may have the effect on the Wasserfall is the rail gun or the use of guided missiles. Use extreme caution. Constant strafing is advised."

"Okay. Thanks Leoni."

Wasserfall: Venetian Canal System: Venice, Italy

The techs inside the Wasserfall were preparing the weapons when they suddenly heard an explosion. They all looked up to their captain.

"We have already detected the Interceptor and has already fired a few of its missiles. All hands on battle stations! Eliminate this threat immediately!"

The men on board the Wasserfall all flew to their consoles, ting the necessary commands to activate their primary and secondary weapons systems Several medium-sized cannons were raised on the back of the Wasserfall. The captain of the said ship watched from his personal screen. He saw the Interceptor being pelted with laser fire, as well as his flying allies. The captain smirked.

"You will never escape me."

Venetian Canal System: Venice, Italy

"Whoa! That was a close one! Gotta finish it off before I get fried!"

Shinji willed his unit-01 to veer left and right, dodging the laser fire from the Wasserfall. The allied choppers also strafed from left to right, hoping to avoid being fried to metal scrap. As Shinji was dodging the cannon fire, he saw that the gas tanks, which were easily noticed by the naked eye, were at the back of the Wasserfall. He hurriedly communicated his plan to the others.

"Listen guys! I have an idea! If we could just pierce the armor of the gas tank, we could easily destroy it!" exclaimed Shinji.

"We could use our rail guns in concert to destroy the gas tanks!" piped in Toji.

"Alright. When the cannon pauses to recharge, fire the rail gun!"

"Got it."

The 6 IES vehicles slowed accelerated even further, bringing them closer to the watercraft. As soon as the cannons paused to recharge, the IES team took this opportunity to fire their rail guns. 6 yellow beams of pure energy emanating from the IES vehicles struck the gas tanks, piercing through it and igniting the volatile substance. The resulting explosion blew a piercing hole in the hull, causing water to rush inside. As a result, the Wasserfall began to sink under the water.

"Yeah! We did it!"

"It isn't time for celebrations guys. We still have work to do."

Wasserfall: Venetian Canal System: Venice, Italy

"All men abandon ship! This ship is out of commission!" yelled the captain as he calmly pushed a button in his chair. A staircase at the wall directly behind him opened.When he reached the top of the staircase, he boarded his Attack Heli and quickly took off the Wasserfall. The captain muttered under his breath.

"Soon. You and your comrades will meet certain demise."

Venetian Canal System: Venice, Italy

The Interceptor and its allies sped through the canal system. As they were about to take a sharp right turn, they saw the second satellite communications truck on a platform.

"There's the second one. Destroy it now!"

The satellite trucks began to move away from the platform when Shinji and the others fired their guided missiles. The missiles struck dead-on as the satellite communications truck plummeted towards the river. They began to sigh in relief but it was short-lived when several enemy Mortar Things rumbled towards them.

"Oh crap. Leoni, where is the 3rd and 4th Satcom trucks?" asked Shinji as he dodged another volley of the mortars.

"The said trucks are located in a secret underground tunnel that is accessible through a secret opening. No other known routes are available."

"Damn! How I am supposed to get in there!" he said as he rumbled towards the ramp that lead to the Venetian Ristorante. The Interceptor smashed towards the Ristorante as he took a left turn. As he sped by the Venetian square, several unknown SEELE agents on bikes followed him.

"Damn. More pests."

The SEELE agents opened fire as Shinji took the next left turn. His allies opened fire o the bikes but the bikes were simply too fast. Shinji smirked as he engaged his oil slick, smoke screen and mines. The oil slick caused the bikes to veer away from their targets. The resulting confusion from the smoke screen caused them to fire in whatever direction they were facing which were, fortunately, towards their own comrades. The mines left an "explosive" trail for his remaining pursuers. All what was left of the bikes were burning scrap.

Shinji was about to open a link when the ground beneath the interceptor collapsed and he was now inside a tunnel with yellow guide light at the sides.

"What is this place?" asked Shinji as he sped through the tunnel.

"It has been confirmed. This tunnel leads to towards the secret facility where the last Satcom trucks."

"Alright. I'll send a message to the others."

Shinji opened a direct link to the other IES agents. Before he could speak, Asuka was already bombarding him with questions.

"Shinji, where are you? Do you know how worried I am right now?" Asuka asked with worry wavering in her voice.

"Relax, Asuka. I just found an alternate route towards the other Satcom trucks. I'll meet up with you at the end of the tunnel. You can find the other end of this tunnel by following the route I just took. Direct the others towards the rendezvous."

"Alright Shinji. Be careful."

"Alright."

Shinji closed the link and sped through the tunnel When he saw a gate, he fired a rocket, causing it to come off of its hinges. The sight of the two Satcom trucks waiting there and a dozen SEELE soldiers greeted him. Shinji smirked.

"This should be a piece of cake. Opening fire on target!"

The sides of the hood of the interceptor opened fire to reveal the improved gattling cannons that were installed a few days ago. It was capable of firing 5000 rounds per minute and is highly effective against light and medium-armored vehicles as well as enemy agents.

"It's the enemy! Open fire!"

The enemy agents began firing a Shinji even though they knew it was futile. The bullets merely bounced off the Interceptor's sleek armor. Shinji opened fire at the trucks, ripping through their armor as the bullets went through. The Satcoms trucks exploded exploded in a shower of flames, igniting the nearby explosive barrels and causing widespread panic to the enemy. Shinji stepped on the accelerator as he sped out of the facility. He fired a burst of bullets when he saw the gate, blowing it away from hinges. As soon as he was out of the tunnel, he opened a link to Asuka.

"Asuka, I've reached the rendezvous point. Where are you anyway?"

"We're encountering stiff resistance here. It seems that they have installed some anti-air defenses around the vicinity. If all goes well, ETA will be in 5 minutes."

"Roger that. Just be careful."

"Okay Shinji."

Shinji closed the link as he stepped on the brake, bringing the Interceptor to a screeching halt.

Venetian Canal System: Venice, Italy

The 5 IES choppers were on their way to Shinji when several projectiles were fired towards them, rocking their choppers when they exploded. Asuka opened a link to the others.

"Guys, we are encountering flak cannon fire here. Locate the targets and strafe when they fire."

The IES choppers restored their formation when more flak cannon shells were fired at them. When they spotted the flak cannons near the harbor being protected by AA guns, Asuka opened a link to them and yelled.

"Fire rocket payloads!"

The IES choppers unloaded their rocket payloads towards the flak cannons as it made a futile attempt to destroy the crack IES team. One could hear the shrieks of the rockets as they made their way towards the flak cannons. The rockets hit their mark, leaving smoking wreckages as the IES choppers continued towards the rendezvous point.

Rendezvous point: Venetian Canal System: Venice, Italy

A few minutes after the encounter, the IES choppers rendezvoused with the Interceptor before they continued on their to the extraction point. When they were a few minutes away from the extraction point, several water blades and Dr. Torpedoes suddenly popped out of nowhere.

"We're being attacked! Fire at will!"

The choppers began to fire at the Dr. Torpedoes as Shinji focused his attention to the Water blades. The water blades tried to overwhelm Shinji and his Interceptor with sheer numbers, but to no avail.

"I am gonna rip you up!"

Shinji activated all of his primary weapons. Everything from the gattling cannons to the rockets was revealed through the openings in its sleek armor.

"Coordinate your attack with the Dr. Torpedoes. I'll take care of the water blades!"

The Interceptor fired its gattling cannons, rockets and missiles, making the air shriek with the howl of rocket and missile fire as the bullets ripped through the air. The munitions hit their targets, making the water blades either explode in a shower of flames or fly in through the air and suddenly be engulfed in flames.

He 5 IES choppers began to fire their rockets as soon as the Dr. Torpedoes were on their targeting reticules. The rockets pierced through their weapon storage, igniting the torpedoes and setting the Dr. Torpedoes a flame. The IES crew began to sigh in relief.

"Whew! That was a close one!" Exclaimed Shinji as he sped by the canal system.

"Yeah, you're right. That was a close call."

"Okay guys, the weapons boat is coming into view. Asuka, lead the others to a defensive position around the weapons boat to protect it from possible attacks."

:"Okay Shinji."

The Interceptor and the IES choppers sped towards the weapons boat as it opened its rear cargo bay. As the speedboat Interceptor entered the weapons boat, the 5 IES choppers assumed a defensive position. The IES weapons boat rendezvoused with the IES weapons aircraft along with the IES choppers to bring them home to Frankfurt, Germany.

SEELE Headquarters: Petra, Jordan

The 12 monoliths or the members of SEELE convened once again to talk about the recent incidents in Venice and their plans for the future, especially Operation Rebirth and the Ark.

"We have once again defeated by Ikari's spawn. The incompetence of our agents has cost us our plans in Venice. How will we rectify this?"

"I believe we could rectify this by deploying our forces in more strategic places. The new Wasserfalls will be ready once the supplies have reached the base."

"We must develop something that could counter the threat posed by Interceptor. Believe that our research scientists have successfully developed a prototype Interceptor. This Interceptor has the capabilities of the IES interceptor."

"Very good. I want it to be deployed as soon as it is in the production phase. We could not afford any more damage to our facilities, vehicles or personnel of vital importance. I want Ikari's spawn dealt with accordingly."

Author's notes: There you have it! Chapter 5 completed. I must say that I updated too late for my liking. To those of you who noticed, the missions or chapters are not in their correct order because I have plans to make it smoother. I hope I can update aas fast as human possible.
