Disclaimer: Sadly, I do not own Neon Genesis Evangelion, or any

look at the opening credits, or pay much attention to the end

This is a recreation of Episode 24, because I
didn't like how it ended. It made me cry. And yes, I am a guy.

NEON GENESIS EVANGELION
- GUARDIAN ANGEL -
Today seemed just like any other for 14 year
old Shinji Ikari. Laying on his bed, he stared up at his ceiling.
Once again, he saw those unsettling images of Rei clones in his
mind, and shivered.
“Rei Ayanami,” he mumbled to
himself, visualising the First Child. “There's a feeling
about her. Almost as if... my mother.”
Shinji tried to visualise his mother, but was
only greeted by the words on his mother's tombstone:
IKARI YUI
1977 - 2004
Giving a soft sigh, he continued to stare at
the ceiling.
“Rei and my mother,” mumbled the
Third Child. “What are you doing with them,
father?”
Shinji tried to think, but his mind drew up
blanks. Sighing again, he turned over, glancing at the wall.
Nothing seemed to make sense to him anymore. What were those clones
of Rei doing there in the first place? How was Rei alive? Didn't
she sacrifice herself? Was that even the real Rei? If not, what
happened to the real Rei? All those questions plagued the boy's
mind, and he didn't know what to make of it all. Rolling back over,
he slowly sat up, before standing and opening the door to his
room.
“Misato's working...” he said
softly. “She's working herself so hard. Maybe I should go
too.”
Walking over to the front door, Shinji slipped
on his shoes, before heading out to NERV headquarters. The whole
journey, he kept thinking of everything he'd been through.
Everything he'd experienced seemed so... unreal.
`Nothing ever
made sense anyway,' he thought,
bemused. `Just what is going
on?'
Arriving at headquarters a while later, Shinji
swiped his card, sighing as the light changed to green, the doors
to Central Dogma opening for him. He stepped onto the escalator and
rode it to the main lobby, before taking an elevator to the docking
bay. Soon enough, he found himself standing in front of Unit 02.
His mind instantly wandered to Unit 02's pilot, Asuka.
“Where have you disappeared to,
Asuka?” the young boy said softly, hoping Unit 02 would give
him a clue.
`But what could I
even talk to her about?' he thought
to himself. `Could I talk about
Ayanami with her?'
Turning away, he said nothing as he returned to
the surface, standing by the peaceful lake, looking at the wreckage
of Tokyo-3. Birds chirped happily, the afternoon sun low enough to
provide a gentle breeze. But Shinji didn't take all that
in.
`All of my
friends,' he thought sadly.
`Toji... Kensuke... all of their
homes have been destroyed and now they've left. Friends... I don't
have anybody left I could call my friend... nobody. I can't go see
Ayanami again.'
Once again, Shinji pictured the destruction of
the Rei clones, one of their heads floating in the tank. He began
clenching and unclenching his fists.
`I don't have
courage to face her,' thought
Shinji, his eyes staring, unblinking at the sunset.
`I don't even know how to talk or act
around her now. Asuka... Misato... Mother... What can I do? What
can I do?'
Suddenly, Shinji heard the sound of someone
humming. The tune was familiar. It was Beethoven's Ode to Joy, a
song he listened to often. Turning to see who was humming, his eyes
rested on a young silver-haired boy around his age. The boy was
sitting on a submerged statue, gazing at the sunset. Shinji was
captivated. He couldn't take his eyes off the boy.
`He's...
gorgeous...' Shinji thought, not
really paying attention to what he was thinking.
`He has such a nice
voice...'
As the boy finished his humming, he gave a soft
sigh, and murmured, “A song is good.”
Shinji was confused. “Huh?” he
asked.
“Singing brings joy and revitalises the
human soul,” the boy answered, still gazing at the sunset.
“I think that song is the highest achievement of the Lillim
culture, don't you agree...” The boy suddenly turned to face
Shinji, a smile on his face. “Shinji Ikari?”
Shinji blinked. “How do you know my
name?” he asked, bringing a soft chuckle from the
silver-haired boy.
“Heh... everyone knows your name,”
the boy said in amusement. “I don't mean to sound rude, but
you're rather ignorant of your own position.”
This comment earned another blink from
Shinji.
“Oh, really?” he asked, confused.
“W-who are you?”
The other boy smiled a little wider, continuing
to gaze at Shinji.
“I'm Kaworu,” the boy said, in his
soft, alluring voice. “Kaworu Nagisa. I am like you, one of
the selected children... the Fifth Child.”
“You're the Fifth Child?” Shinji
asked in slight amazement. “Um... Mister
Nagisa...”
Kaworu cut in, giggling softly, and, Shinji
added in his mind, rather cutely.
“Call me Kaworu,” he said softly,
and with a hint of mischief. “...Mister
Ikari.”
“Mister Ikari?” Shinji said, a
smile breaking out on his face. “Oh, no... you can call me
Shinji.”
Kaworu smiled, his eyes closing, the two boys
facing each other, unspeaking for a while, before Shinji's
cellphone rang, the Third Child answering it after the second
ring.
“Hello?” he said into the receiver.
“Oh, hi Misato... another synch test? Oh yeah... I met the
Fifth Child. He's with me now.”
Shinji nodded, mumbling his affirmation, before
smiling slightly. “Sure, Misato...” he said softly.
“See you soon. Bye.”
Shinji hung up, putting his cellphone back in
his pocket with a sigh. He then turned around to face Kaworu
again.
“We have a synch test,” he said
softly. “Misato wants you to come too.”
Kaworu nodded, jumping down from the statue
onto the ground. With a smile, the two boys headed for NERV
HQ.
*****
Sitting inside Unit 01's entry plug, Shinji
kept his eyes closed, keeping his synchronisation rate as level as
he could. In the command box, Fuyutsuki kept his eyes on the
readouts.
“Take it down 0.3 more,” the
commander ordered. Computer programmer Maya Ibuki nodded and
complied with his commands, answering “Yes
sir.”
Fuyutsuki continued to stare at the
readouts.
“Are these data readouts correct?”
he asked in doubt.
“All of the test systems are operating
correctly, sir...” replied Makoto Hyuga, checking the
instrument panel.
“The MAGI confirm that there are no data
errors,” Maya said, checking her console.
Fuyutsuki was amazed, although he didn't let it
show on his face. “It's incredible that he can synchronise
with Unit 02 even before we've reconfigured the core,” he
said. “He's amazing.”
“But... but this isn't possible,”
Maya said, rechecking her panel. Suddenly hearing Misato, Maya
turned to the Major.
“Nevertheless, it's happened,” the
ebony-haired woman announced. “We must accept that fact and
start an investigation in to why it is so.”
Everyone nodded, and after a few more minutes
of testing, they were finished. Shinji opened his eyes and gave a
slight smile. The entry plugs were retrieved, allowing the three
Children to exit them. Shinji left, noticing that Kaworu had headed
off somewhere, obviously for some other business. Rei was also
gone.
`Damnit,' he thought.
`I wanted to talk to
her.'
With that, Shinji left, ignoring the
congratulations he got from everyone at having a better synch ratio
than his last test. Taking the elevator, he left Central Dogma,
before waiting outside the doors. Giving a sigh, he put his
headphones on, and began listening to his music. Sometime later,
while listening to Ode to Joy, he heard an announcement over the
speakers.
“Central Dogma is now open,” the
announcement said. “Please use Route 3 for
transfer.”
Suddenly, Gate 13 opened, Kaworu stepping out
with a smile on his face.
“Hello,” he said, his smile
widening slightly, the door closing behind him. “You weren't
waiting here for me, were you?”
“N-no,” Shinji said softly, his
cheeks glowing a soft red. “Well, not really waiting
anyway.”
Kaworu walked over to Shinji, smiling down at
him. “So, what are you doing for the rest of the day?”
he asked.
“Well,” the Third Child began.
“Usually when tests are over, I'll just take a shower and go
home. But I don't really wanna go home these
days.”
The silver-haired boy chuckled
softly.
“The fact that you have a place where you
can return, home, will lead you to happiness,” he said.
“That is a good fact.”
Shinji looked a bit uncertain, but glanced up
at Kaworu his eyes believing what the other boy said. “You
think so?” he asked.
Kaworu nodded, continuing. “I want to
talk to you some more,” he said. “May I come with
you?”
Shinji looked at Kaworu blankly.
“To the shower, I mean...” Kaworu
added. “Aren't you going to go to the
shower?”
The brunet blinked in embarrassment.
“Y-yeah...” he stammered.
“Or do you mean no?” Kaworu asked,
his voice lowering a bit.
Shinji's mind instantly attacked
him.
`As if I'd say
no!' he thought.
`You're company... I'd love your
company!'
“N-no,” he said softly, blushing.
“I don't mean no...”
Kaworu chuckled and helped Shinji to his feet.
Slowly, the two headed off for the shower room. Arriving a few
minutes later, the two silently unclothed and sat down in the
bath-spa. Kaworu sighed softly as he felt the nice warm water on
his body. Shinji glanced at him, before looking away
again.
“You are extremely afraid of any kind of
initial contact, aren't you?” Kaworu finally asked.
“Are you that afraid of other people? I know that by keeping
others at a distance, you avoid a betrayal of your trust, but while
you may not be hurt that way, you mustn't forget that you must
endure the loneliness. Man can never completely erase this sadness,
because all men are fundamentally... alone.”
Having said those words, Kaworu slowly placed
his hand on Shinji's. The brunet gasped, glancing at Kaworu.
Suddenly, the lights went out.
“I-i-it's time,” Shinji
stammered.
“Time to go?” Kaworu asked. Shinji
nodded slowly.
“Yeah,” he said softly. “I
have to go to bed.”
Kaworu grinned cheekily. “With me?”
he asked.
Shinji's face instantly reddened, and he began
stuttering, before finding his tongue.
“No!” he gasped out. “I-I
think you have your own, uh... own room... ah... that they gave
you, I mean...”
The Fifth Child smiled to himself.
“Okay,” he said, standing up. Shinji blushed up at
him.
“Y'know, pain is something a man must
endure in his heart,” Kaworu continued. “And since the
heart feels pain so easily, some believe life is
pain.”
The silver-haired boy turned to look at Shinji,
who was still blushing.
“You are delicate like glass,” he
continued. “That is, your heart is.”
Shinji swallowed softly, looking up at Kaworu
in uncertainty. “I-it is?” he asked.
“Yes,” Kaworu replied. “This
is worth earning my empathy.”
“Empathy?” Shinji asked, not quite
understanding.
Kaworu smiled. “I'm saying I love
you...” he said softly.
Shinji's heart suddenly thumped in his chest.
Did he hear Kaworu right? Did he say that... he loved him? Slowly
he stood up, watching as Kaworu silently dried himself and put his
night clothes on. With a silent sigh, Shinji did the same, and the
two of them left, heading for Kaworu's place.
*****
The room was small, but then again, it was in a
pyramid. Shinji laid on the floor gazing up at the ceiling, while
Kaworu was on his futon, also staring up.
“I think I should sleep on the
floor,” Kaworu said softly.
Shinji turned to Kaworu, blinking.
“No,” he said. “I'm staying at your place. I'm
fine. I-I'll be okay on the floor.”
Keeping his gaze on Kaworu, Shinji suddenly
blinked as Kaworu asked, “What did you want to say to
me?”
“Wha-?” the brunet
asked.
“You wanted to tell me
something...” the silver-haired boy replied. “...didn't
you?”
Shinji sighed and looked back at the
ceiling.
“So much has happened since I
came,” he said softly. “Before this, I lived with my
teacher. It was calm and boring in those days. I wasn't really
doing anything, but I was fine with that. There was really nothing
that I had to do.”
“Did you hate dealing with people?”
Kaworu asked.
Shinji shrugged. “More or less,” he
said. “But I didn't really care as much. However, I really
hated my father.”
The brunet suddenly thought to himself,
`Why am I telling all of this to
Kaworu?'
Turning to glance back at Kaworu, he blushed as
he noticed Kaworu was already gazing at him.
“I think I may have been born just to
meet you, Shinji Ikari...” the boy said, smiling
warmly.
Shinji couldn't help himself. He slowly got up,
before kneeling down next to Kaworu, leaning in and pressing his
lips to the Fifth Child's. Kaworu sighed into the kiss, pressing
back to show that he really meant what he said about loving Shinji.
A few moments later, Shinji pulled back, needing air.
“A-about what you said earlier,” he
began. “When you said you loved me... did you really mean
it?”
Kaworu smiled, a soft blush coming to his
cheeks as he nodded. “Yes,” he said. “I meant
every word. I love you.”
Shinji smiled back, his blush deepening.
“I'm glad,” he said. “Because... I love you
too.”
Kaworu placed his arms gently around Shinji,
slowly bringing him down onto the futon. “Shinji...” he
purred softly.
“Kaworu,” Shinji whimpered back.
“I want to...”
“Have sex with me?” Kaworu offered,
chuckling when Shinji's cheeks flared red, the other boy nodding.
“Good. I want to have sex with you too.”
Shinji's blush deepened, when Kaworu reached
under his pillow and presented some KY jelly. Grinning, Kaworu
slowly lifted Shinji's shirt off his body, throwing it to the side.
Shivering, Shinji did the same for Kaworu, suddenly gasping when he
saw the other boy's bare torso. For someone skinny, he was very
muscular. The brunet couldn't help but wonder what the
silver-haired boy's penis size was. He was about to find out, as he
hungrily pulled down Kaworu's pants, exposing a generously sized
package.
“Wow,” Shinji murmured in surprise.
“It's big.”
Kaworu chuckled and removed Shinji's pants,
throwing them to the side, before pulling Shinji down atop him.
“How much do you want me?” he purred.
Shinji growled in reply. “A lot,”
he said. “Right now.”
Kaworu smirked and leaned up to kiss Shinji,
the brunet kissing back passionately. Parting his lips, Shinji
allowed the silver-haired boy's tongue to invade. Before long
though, he had to break the kiss, once again needing
oxygen.
“I want you...” Shinji panted.
“...inside me.”
Kaworu's smirk widened. “Your wish is my
command,” he chuckled, flipping over so that Shinji was
laying on his back, the Fifth Child facing down at him. “But
first, I should prepare you.”
The silver-haired boy squirted a generous
amount of lubricant onto his fingers, before slowly inserting one
into Shinji's rear cavern. The brunet moaned, a mixture of pain and
pleasure being felt. After a few moments of getting used to the
intrusion, Shinji nodded, letting Kaworu insert a second finger,
and after a few more moments, a third.
“Fuck!” Shinji moaned. “I
never knew it could feel so good.”
Kaworu grinned. “It'll feel even better
in a moment,” he said cheekily, slowly removing his fingers.
“Ready?” he asked. At Shinji's nod, he squirted some
lubricant on his member, before slowly pushing it inside his lover.
Shinji instantly let out a loud cry.
“Ow!” he yelped. “It feels
nice, but it hurts a lot more too!”
Kaworu instantly felt bad, and began to move
out of Shinji, blinking when his lover stopped him.
“No,” he panted. “I'm fine.
Just... slowly, okay?”
The silver-haired boy nodded and slowly edged
in. Within moments, his arousal was completely embedded within his
lover's cavern. Waiting a few minutes for Shinji to get used to the
feeling, Kaworu slowly pulled out most of the way, before thrusting
back in. Shinji moaned in pleasure.
“Unh!” he grunted. “You're
right. It feels... so good.”
Chuckling, the Fifth Child continued thrusting
at a slow pace, before picking it up a notch, thrusting faster and
harder, relishing Shinji's moans and ecstatic cries for
more.
“Shinji...” he grunted in pleasure.
“Unh! Need... to help... you... too.”
Shinji was about to ask what Kaworu was talking
about, until he felt his lover's hand close around his penis.
Slowly, Kaworu began to jerk it, helping Shinji feel double the
pleasure.
“Kaworuuuuu~!” Shinji moaned.
“Hnnnn... don't know how much longer...”
Kaworu merely smiled and continued thrusting,
pumping his lover's erection faster. The pleasure he was feeling
was beyond anything he could have imagined. Eventually, he felt a
build up, and with a loud moan, he released himself deep inside
Shinji. The brunet also felt a build up, letting out his own loud
moan, releasing himself all over himself and Kaworu. The
silver-haired boy collapsed atop his lover, panting heavily. Shinji
suddenly felt very sleepy. “I love you,” he whispered
sleepily. “I love you, Kaworu.”
Kaworu smiled and whispered back, “I love
you too, Shinji...” before falling asleep. He sighed as he
thought of what he'd have to do the next day.
*****
Shinji awoke the next day to find Kaworu
missing. He gave a soft sigh and took a shower. He smiled as he
went over the events of the previous night. Finishing his shower,
Shinji dried up and got changed into his day clothes, before
venturing out to NERV headquarters.
Meanwhile, Kaworu was standing in front of Unit
02. He smiled sadly up at the magnificent mecha.
“It is time,” Kaworu called out.
“Let us go, Adam's dark shadow... servant of the
Lillim!”
With those words, Kaworu stepped off the
docking bay, and began hovering in the air, Eva Unit 02 activating
behind him. Without warning, Beethoven's Ode to Joy was blasted
throughout NERV headquarters, alarms ringing.
“Eva Unit 02 just activated!”
Makoto gasped.
Misato's eyes widened. “That's
impossible!” she yelled. “Where's
Asuka?”
An image of Asuka in Hospital room 303 appeared
on the monitors.
Shigeru Aoba checked the monitor and called
back, “She's in room 303. I've confirmed
it!”
“Then who the hell is piloting it?”
Misato shot back.
Maya turned to Misato, her instrument panel
flashing the word UNMANNED. “It's
unmanned! The entry plug hasn't even been inserted into Unit
02!”
Misato shivered as she began thinking,
`Unmanned? Then the Fifth Child isn't
there?'
Suddenly, a loud beeping was heard, an
instrument panel lighting up. Makoto grit his teeth and called out,
“A.T. Field detected in Central Dogma!”
“Eva 02?” Misato asked, hoping her
bad feeling was wrong. She got an even worse feeling when Makoto
shook his head.
“No,” he said. “The blood
pattern is blue. It's definitely an Angel!”
“It's an Angel?!” Misato
shrieked.
In Central Dogma, Kaworu kept a smirk on his
face, Eva Unit 02 lowering behind him. Back in the control room,
Misato was feeling terrible.
`That
means...' she thought.
`That means
Kaworu's...'
Makoto continued reading his panel, reporting
what was happening. “The target has passed the fourth
defensive layer and is still descending!” he gasped.
“It's no good! We can't cut the power to the linear
carriage!”
“Evacuate the area!” Fuyutsuki
ordered. “Seal all shutters and bulkheads surrounding Central
Dogma! We've got to buy ourselves some more time!”
As the shutters and bulkheads closed, an
automatic recording announced, “Closing all bulkheads
immediately! All personnel evacuate! All personnel
evacuate!”
Fuyutsuki grit his teeth. “God have
mercy,” he muttered. “SEELE has sent an Angel to
us.”
Commander Gendo Ikari sat on his command seat,
staring forward. “The old man wants to advance his schedule,
using us as his tool...” he said.
Suddenly, a loud rumble shook the headquarters
as Eva 02 broke through Layer 14 of the armour plating.
“Unit 02 has penetrated the armoured
shutters!” Shigeru exclaimed, Makoto following with his
report, “Target has penetrated the second barrier,
sir!”
Gendo made his order clear, “Send Unit 01
into pursue it.”
“Yes, sir...” Misato said, calling
Shinji to get him prepared for battle.
Gendo continued with his orders, “Under
all circumstances the last Angel must be kept from entering
Terminal Dogma.”
As Kaworu and Unit 02 descended, Misato held
her phone in her hand, preparing to call Shinji.
`But why did
the Angel take Unit
02?' she thought to herself, before
finalising her call.
Fuyutsuki leaned closer to Gendo, whispering,
“You don't think it's going to attempt to fuse with Unit 02,
do you?” Gendo frowned. “Or will it try to bring about
our total destruction?” he countered.
Meanwhile, inside Unit 01's entry plug, Shinji
was in tears, having just heard the news from Misato, but he
refused to believe it. “No! No! No!” he cried out.
“It's not possible! I won't believe that Kaworu's an Angel...
it's a lie!”
“It's a fact, Shinji... you must accept
it,” Misato said over the comms. “Prepare for combat,
do you understand?”
The Third Child nodded. Gritting his teeth, he
followed Kaworu, who looked back.
“Shinji, you are late...” Kaworu
said sadly.
“Eva Unit 01 descending via Access Route
2!” Shigeru's voice came over the speaker. “It's about
to make contact with the target.”
Shinji called out down towards Kaworu, his eyes
filled with tears, “You betrayed me... you betrayed the trust
I placed in you... you betrayed me just like my father
did!”
“Unit 01 has reached the Fourth
Layer!” Shigeru's voice called out over the speaker.
“It's about to confront the target!”
“There he is!” Shinji
growled.
Kaworu smiled sadly. “I have been waiting
for you Shinji...” he said softly.
“Kaworu!” Shinji's anguished voice
called out, Unit 01 reaching for him, but was met with the hands of
Unit 02. The two Evas began struggling against each other, battling
amongst each other.
“Asuka, I'm sorry...” Shinji
sobbed, the progressive knives sliding out as both Evas grabbed
them.
Kaworu sighed softly. “The Eva series was
born from Adam,” he said sadly. “Born from man's
antithesis, and yet the Lillim will utilise that which they hate
most of all in order to survive. I do not
understand.”
Eva 01 and 02 both slammed their progressive
knives into the other's, attempting to throw the other's away, but
it seemed to be an even fight. Shinji glanced out at Kaworu.
“Kaworu, stop!” he yelled. “Why is this
happening?!”
“Your Evas and I are composed of the same
matter,” the silver-haired boy said matter-of-factly.
“Born from Adam, I can synchronise with it easily as long as
there is no dominant soul, and Unit 02's soul is now hiding itself.
Thus, Eva 02 is mine!”
Suddenly, Unit 02 managed to push Unit 01's
knife away, but it went straight towards Kaworu. “NO!”
Shinji yelled, suddenly gasping as an A.T. Field emerged from
Kaworu. “You've got your own A.T. Field?”
Kaworu nodded. “Yes,” he said.
“At least that is what you Lillim call this thing. This is
the light of my soul, a sacred territory in which no one may
intrude. Aren't you Lillim even aware yet, that your so-called A.T.
Field is merely that wall that encloses every mind that
exists?”
“I don't understand what you're talking
about!” Shinji shrieked, suddenly yelping in pain as Unit 01
got stabbed in the shoulder. Clutching his own shoulder, Shinji
screamed and slammed his own knife into Unit 02. The battle
continued as they approached the final layer. Kaworu sighed
softly.
`This is
mankind's fate,' he thought sadly.
`The thread of human hope is spun
with the flax of sorrow.'
With a loud crash, another rumble rocketed the
entire complex. Communication between Unit 01 and the command
centre was lost. Within seconds, they finally broke through the
last layer, Eva 01 and 02 slamming into the ground. Shinji grit his
teeth in pain, before opening his eyes to see Kaworu looking at him
sadly. “Kaworu!” he called. “Don't do it,
Kaworu!”
Kaworu slowly turned and hovered away. Shinji
began getting desperate. “No, don't do it!” he called
out, suddenly cringing as Unit 02 reached out and grabbed Unit 01's
leg.
The silver-haired boy continued on his path to
Adam, before blinking and unlocking Heaven's Door. With a boost of
strength, Shinji let out a loud yell and slammed his progressive
knife into Unit 02, severely damaging it. At that moment, another
rumble occurred. “What's that?!” Shinji
yelled.
Inside Heaven, Rei stared down at Kaworu, who
was glancing at another Angel that was crucified.
“Adam,” the silver-haired boy said softly. “That
from which we came. Must one who is born from Adam return to Adam,
even though it will destroy man? Wait... this
isn't...”
Suddenly Kaworu realised the truth.
“Lillith?” he gasped. “I see! I understand the
Lillim now, Lillith!”
A loud crash behind him made Kaworu turn around
to see Shinji had thrown Unit 02 into Heaven. The silver-haired boy
just smiled sadly as Unit 01 grabbed him in its giant hand.
“I thank you, Shinji...” he said softly. “I
wanted you to take Unit 02 from me, otherwise with her, I might
have survived much longer.”
Shinji's eyes filled with tears.
“Kaworu...” he whimpered. “But
why?”
“It is my destiny to live forever, though
my survival will bring final destruction to the human
race...” he said sadly. “However, it is possible for me
to be killed, and whether I live or die makes no great difference.
In truth, death may be the only absolute freedom there
is.”
Shinji's tears silently fell. “What are
you?” he asked. “Kaworu? I don't understand what you're
talking about, Kaworu.”
“This is my wish,” Kaworu replied.
“Please destroy me. Otherwise, you will be destroyed. Only
one life form can be chosen to evade the destruction and seize the
future... and you are not the existence which should
die.”
Looking up, Kaworu let his gaze rest upon Rei
for a moment, before looking back at Shinji. “You need the
future. It is what you live for. Thank you, Shinji. My life was
meaningful, because of you.”
Tears flowing freely from his eyes, Shinji kept
his finger on the trigger. But no matter what his mind said about
Kaworu being an Angel, his heart wouldn't let him kill the boy who
had made love to him only the night before. Slowly, the grip around
Kaworu began to ease, before the hand fell away. Slowly, Unit 01
deactivated, the entry plug ejecting, dropping to the ground,
before opening. Shinji emerged, sobbing. “I'm sorry,”
he wept. “But, I can't kill you. Not after last night. You're
all I have left now. If I lost you...”
Kaworu floated down to Shinji, giving a soft
sigh. “I'm an Angel, Shinji...” he said softly.
“I'm an enemy.”
Shinji threw himself into Kaworu's arms and
sobbed into his shoulder. “No!” he cried. “You
may be an Angel... but you're MY Angel.”
Kaworu blushed, his arms going around Shinji.
“I understand, Shinji...” he said softly. “If you
need me, then as the Angel of Free Will... I vow to stay with you
until the time comes for life to end.”
Sniffling, Shinji looked up at Kaworu.
“Forever,” he said softly, his tears slowing to a halt.
“I love you, and that love will last
forever.”
With a smile, Kaworu leaned in and kissed
Shinji tenderly. The brunet returned the kiss, before pulling away.
“I want to stay with you forever,” Shinji mumbled.
“Let's go back.”
Kaworu smiled and nodded, walking away,
Shinji's hand in his. The Third Child sighed softly. He didn't care
what Kaworu was. He was happy, and that's all that mattered. He'd
explain it to everyone later. He had his guardian angel, and he
wasn't ever going to let go.
THE END
