“How are you doing, Nathaniel?” Misato asked. The American coughed painfully.
“I'm a little banged up,” he rasped, his ribs, knuckles and neck thoroughly bruised from the fighting, “but I'll survive. How are Shinji and Asuka? I saw them running away during the battle.”
“We are fine, thank you,” Asuka replied, stepping into view. “I thought there was something shady about you.” Nathaniel blinked.
“Are you always in such a good mood?” He asked, earning a growl from the “Red Devil” in response. “I guess so. Where's Shinji?” The First Child stepped into view as well.
“So…you're a pilot.” It was a statement, not a question. Nathaniel nodded. “Good luck…you'll need it.” With that, Shinji proceeded to leave, Asuka watching him with a fierce look in her eyes.
“Coward!” She called after him, causing the young man to freeze in his tracks. “So you'll run away again? You're so fucking pathetic!” Shinji spun, barely contained anger causing him to shake uncontrollably.
“That's enough, Asuka,” Misato interceded, “you should now how Shinji feels about piloting.” Asuka scoffed.
“So what? Being brave means doing something despite being afraid,” she was heading towards being vindictive. “He's a guy…he ought to have grown a pair by now.” Shinji had just about heard enough.
“SHUT UP!!!” He cried, closing the distance between them in the blink of an eye and tackling her to the floor, his hands wrapping around her throat. Asuka fought back, trying to dislodge his grip, but in his rage he had gained a surprising amount of strength. “I've had enough of you! Your snide remarks, your disgusted looks! I WON'T JUST BEND OVER AND TAKE IT ANYMORE!!!” Asuka's world was starting to go black, but fortunately for her Misato ordered several nearby guards to pull Shinji off of her. “Let me go!” He howled, three grown men needed to restrain him.
“Shinji-kun,” a soft voice called to him from the left. Shinji turned his head to look, seeing Rei standing there. Her eyes widened a touch in shock. His normally soft blue eyes had turned black and fierce, burning with a long restrained rage. Misato, meanwhile, was helping Asuka to his feet.
`Meine Gott,' Asuka thought, rubbing her now bruised throat. `He's never been like this before.' She wasn't sure how to feel about this sudden change in him. Part of her was scared, another angry, but there was also one part that was strangely excited. That part liked seeing this side of him, not the nearly strangling the life from her part of course. Rei stepped forward, looking directly into Shinji's now alien eyes. He looked away after a few moments, feeling totally ashamed of himself.
`What's wrong with me?' He thought in dismay. `How could I just lose it like that?'
“Are you alright now, Shinji-kun?” Rei asked, a slight edge of concern discernable in her voice. Shinji looked up again, his eyes back to normal.
“Hai, Rei-san,” he replied, looking down at his feet, not seeing Rei's disappointment at his use of the formal honorific.
“Good,” she said, looking up at the guards. “I believe you may release him now.” The guards looked at Misato for confirmation, who nodded. They released him, the young man falling to his knees.
“Why are they back?” He asked hopelessly. “Why couldn't they just stay gone?” Misato frowned, her eyes sad.
“I wish we knew,” she replied. “Gomen nasai.” Asuka groaned in disgust.
“You two should get married, you sound do much alike now,” the red-headed teenager said with a sigh. “First Shinji the Gutless Wonder and now Misato is all apologetic…looks like saving the world is up to me and Wonder Girl.” Shinji hung his head in shame.
`She's right,' he thought with an inward sigh, `I am a coward.'
`…Shinji…'
His head snapped up in alarm. There it was again! Where did it keep coming from? Shinji shook his head and stood up, looking at Misato and ignoring Asuka's deadly glare.
“Is my father here?” He asked tentatively, not sure he wanted to know if he was. Misato, however, shook her head.
“No,” she told him with a smile. “I was placed in charge of NERV by the UN.” The three pilots couldn't believe their ears.
`The world is screwed,' they all managed to think at the same time without realizing it.
“Um…not to seem rude,” the till now forgotten Nathaniel interjected, “but can we come back now?”
“Did you say `we'?” Misato asked, unsure if she heard him correctly.
“Yeah,” he replied, causing everyone to blink in surprise.
“You mean you and the Eva?” Maya asked just to be sure.
“Yes, so what?” Nathaniel was growing impatient. Maya and Misato exchanged glances. Maya and Misato exchanged glances
“Well then…come on back,” Misato told him with a nervous smile.
“Roger, Eva Unit 05 returning to base.” With that Nathaniel cut off the transmission.
`…help me…'
Shinji shook his head in an effort to clear it.
`What is wrong with me?' He thought for not the first time, sweat beading his brow, his face pale.
“Shinji-kun, what's wrong?” Misato asked, worried about him.
“Nothing,” he muttered, once again moving to leave. Asuka ran after him, a look close to murder in her eyes. She grabbed him by the shoulder and spun him around, punching him in the nose.
“Bastard,” she growled fiercely, hoping to get him to fight back, “did you think you could choke me and get away with it?!” Shinji was prepared for her next punch, catching her fist easily and delivering a side thrust kick to her abdomen. Asuka stumbled back, gasping for breath. Shinji came at her with another kick, this one aimed for her head. Asuka managed to duck under it, dashing forward to strike a blow to his kidneys. Shinji growled from the pain, retreating a few steps before scissor kicking Asuka in the face. Asuka fell on her butt, blood trickling from the corner of her mouth. Shinji made as if to attack again when Rei stepped into his path, eyes intense.
“Enough,” she told him forcefully, “both of you are acting foolish.” Asuka stood up, spitting blood.
“Out of the way, Wonder Girl,” she growled, “this is between me and the Gutless Wonder!” Shinji growled and tried to move around Rei, but she blocked him again.
“Rei's right, and if you two don't stop right now I'll confine you both to the brig!” Misato added authoritatively. “Am I understood?” Asuka growled but complied, seeming almost disappointed.
“Hai, Misato-san,” Shinji murmured, barely noticing the blood coming out of his nose from Asuka's first punch. Misato gestured to a couple of guards that were still standing nearby.
“Escort these two to the med bay,” she ordered with a sigh, noticing the two casting ugly looks at each other. “What am I going to do with those two?” She wondered, pausing to give Rei a grateful look. “Arigato, Rei-chan, for stepping in. Still, Shinji could have seriously hurt you.” Rei shook her head.
“No, Commander Katsuragi, he would not,” she replied confidently before moving to follow them. Misato shook her head.
“Things will probably only get worse once we get home.” She sighed, rubbing her temples in a futile attempt to stave off a migraine. “I'll go meet Nathaniel at Cage 4.”

Nathaniel, dripping with LCL, stepped out of the entry plug, his lavender eyes scanning the various techs that began checking over his Eva. Just then, Misato decided to make an appearance.
“Hello, Commander,” he greeted her, his voice still hoarse. He bowed politely and smiled, pain evident in every movement.
“So, how are you feeling?” She asked returning his smile.
“Other than the fact I hurt like hell I have no problems to report,” he deadpanned, wincing slightly from the effort of speaking.
“Well, Maya wants to give you a check up just in case,” Misato told him, looking over some notes a tech had just handed her. “Make sure you head over to her office after you change.” Nathaniel snapped off a crisp salute.
“Hai,” he murmured before heading off to the showers. He thought about the fight with the Angel as the water cascaded over his head and shoulders. A cold, deadly smile spread across his face as he began the arduous process of cleaning his hair.
“Things should be quite interesting from here on out.”

Asuka glared over the shoulder of the nurse that was inspecting her ribs at Shinji, who stood leaning against the far wall, arms crossed over his chest as he glared right back.
`Oh, I'm not sure if I want to kick his ass or kiss him,' she thought grumpily, then stopped. `Wait…kiss him? Humph, yeah right!' She looked away at last, blushing for some odd reason. Shinji arched an eyebrow, curious as to why she was blushing.
`Ah, who cares? What's her fucking problem, goading me like that?!' Though he had to admit she was kinda cute when she blushed like that. `Whoa! She is in no way cute!' Rei looked from one to the other, practically seeing the sexual tension pass between them.
`I wonder if these two shall ever admit how they feel,' she thought despondently. `Of course…who am I to think this way?' She saw how nervous the guards were and could hardly blame them. `Where did Shinji-kun learn Tae Kwon Do?' Shinji was up next to be inspected, the nurse squeezing his nose to see if it was broken. Shinji winced slightly but showed no other sign of discomfort. The nurse then began inspecting his kidneys, having him remove his shirt. His musculature was more defined, showing he had been working out during his spare time. Rei caught herself admiring his smooth chest and looked away, blushing. She wasn't the only one who had been looking it seemed since Asuka was busy scrutinizing her shoes, her face redder than before. Shinji looked from one to the other, then thought of a reason why they were blushing. He wasn't that impressive looking, was he? No, there had to be some other reason than that. Shinji was soon distracted when the nurse put pressure on the spot where Asuka's fist hand landed. The teenager nearly jumped out of his skin from the pain, gritting his teeth to keep from crying out. He looked up to see concern in both Rei's and Asuka's eyes. Rei he could understand, but Asuka? The look in Asuka's eyes was soon replaced by anger again. Shinji sighed, wincing when drawing in a deep breath hurt. He couldn't help but shoot Asuka an apologetic look, feeling suddenly very foolish. Asuka blinked in surprise, then looked away again, fuming. Shinji shook his head, then looked at Rei, who returned his gaze with the same flat eyes she had always had. The nurse told him he could put back on his shirt, the young man cringing inwardly in agony when he moved his arms above his head.
`Dear Kami,' he groaned silently. `I hope she won't want to pick up where we left off later.' Misato walked in, giving both he and Asuka disappointed looks.
“Come on, I'll take you three home,” she said, gesturing for Rei to follow as well.

Half an hour later at Misato's flat…

Asuka retreated to her room and Shinji began to cook dinner, white rice with stir fried chicken and vegetables. Misato had offered to cook instead, but Shinji didn't feel like being up all night with indigestion. While he cooked, his mind kept drifting back to the reappearance of the Angels.
`What went wrong?' He thought, keeping half his attention on making sure the meal came out right. `There shouldn't be anymore Angels.' He checked the rice, smiling absently to keep Misato from worrying. He needn't have bothered, since she was already on her fifth beer. Inside, Shinji felt his heart trying to twist itself apart over the thought of having to fight and pilot Eva again. Part of him was sick of it, but then…there was the part of him that reveled in battle, had been excited when he and Asuka had come to blows. He shuddered in fear and disgust, knowing that he would be needed in the battles ahead whether he liked it or not. He finished cooking, dishing out equal portions onto three plates and set them down on the table. Misato called for Asuka, who only came out long enough to glare at Shinji and grab her meal and a drink. Shinji sighed, wondering whether things would ever be the same between him and Asuka.
“Don't worry, Shinji-kun,” Misato slurred badly. “You just had your first lovers spat, that's all. You only tried to kill each other, after all. I could tell you a few war stories…” Shinji appreciated the thought, but tuned out everything else Misato had to say after that.

The next day in school…

Shinji sighed, having just seen what Asuka had posted for him on the chat boards.

Red: You are so dead after school.
01: Asuka, can't we just forget about yesterday?
Red: What do you want on your tombstone? How about Gutless Wonder?

Shinji didn't bother replying after that, holding his head in his hands. What was he going to do now? Then another post caught his eye.

N/A: Hello, Ikari-san.
01: Who's this?
N/A: A friend with some advice.
01: Unless you have something in regards to keeping me alive I don't want to hear it.
N/A: Sorhyu-san is insignificant compared to the Angels.
01: Who the hell is this?!
N/A: Listen carefully, Ikari-san. These Angels are unlike the others and Balthazar will be coming next.
01: Who's Balthazar? What do you mean the Angels are different this time?
N/A: I shall be in touch.
01: Hey!

There was no response. Shinji cast a quick look around the room and only saw Asuka glaring at him. Nothing else caught his eyes after that, save the German girl's murderous looks. He sighed, praying for deliverance. It came after school in the form of the class rep. Hikari smiled at him, handing a slip of paper.
“Take this to Rei's place please. She forgot it in her desk.” Shinji thanked whoever was watching out for him. He walked to Rei's apartment in silence, casting glances over his shoulder just in case Asuka had followed him. He arrive at her door and knocked. He waited for several minutes, then rang the bell. Still no answer.
“Rei-san?” He called through the door. “I'm coming in.” He opened the door, which was unsurprisingly unlocked, taking off his shoes before proceeding further. He walked over to the kitchen looking around. “Rei-san?” He called again, receiving no answer. He moved to her desk, seeing the glasses sitting there but making sure not to touch them this time. He figured correctly after the…incident with Rei that they were at one time his father's. He sighed, still unable to understand their relationship. He heard a door open behind him and he turned towards the sound by instinct, a sense of déjà vu coming to him. Rei stood there, a towel draped over her shoulders, covering her breasts but nothing else. Shinji turned away quickly, blushing profusely.
“Gomen!” He apologized. “T-the door was open.” He breathed in, then out slowly in an effort to calm himself. “The class representative wanted me to deliver this.” He held up the paper over his shoulder. “I didn't mean to intrude…again.”
“You were not intruding,” Rei said softly from right behind him, taking the paper from him. “You may turn around now.” Shinji did so slowly, knowing that Rei had a very strange sense of modesty. She was fully dressed, however, wearing a school uniform. Shinji wondered if she owned anything else. Probably not. “Is there anything else?” Her question made him realize that he had been staring. He looked away again, blushing.
“N-no,” he managed to stammer out after a moment. “I'll see you in school tomorrow.” He started for the door when the sound of Rei's voice stopped him.
“Would you like to come over again tomorrow, Shinji-kun?” She asked. Shinji turned around, blinking in surprise. Rei wouldn't have said it unless she were serious.
“Uh, sure, Rei-chan,” he said without realizing it. He groaned inwardly once he did though. `She's going to be so mad! Asuka would be..' Instead, he saw her give him the same smile she had when he had manually opened the entry plug after the battle with the Fifth Angel.
“I will see you then, Shinji-kun.”

Back at Misato's flat again…

Shinji closed the door behind him and locked it, smiling slightly. He walked into the living room and breathed a sigh of relief.
“No sign of Asuka,” he breathed. He moved to sit down when he heard running footsteps behind him. He turned just in time to catch of Asuka's punch. He staggered, falling against the couch. Asuka leapt atop him, straddling him and pinning his arms against the couch.
“Think you could escape, huh?” She growled in his face, eyes blazing. “No such luck!” Shinji struggled, hoping to throw her off, but the red-head had locked her legs behind his back and wasn't going anywhere.
“Get off of me,” he growled back, teeth clenched in rage. Asuka smiled.
“Not yet,” she murmured, her tone suddenly different. She pressed her mouth against his with bruising force, catching him totally off guard.
`What the hell?' Shinji thought in shock, having not expected something like this to happen. He felt Asuka's tongue snake its way past his lips and begin exploring every inch of his mouth. He soon began returning her kiss, two years of frustration coming to the surface. He struggled against her grip, wanting to explore her with his hands, but Asuka wasn't about to let go, not after the beating she had taken the night before. She felt his erection press against the inside of her thigh, the red-head moaning into his mouth. She pulled away at last, smiling devilishly, her face as flushed as Shinji's. To say Shinji was confused would have been a serious understatement at this point.
“So, was it good for you?” Asuka purred, looking Shinji right in the eyes. A thought came to him then.
“You are drunk,” he observed correctly. Asuka giggled, which she almost never did.
“Yup,” she admitted, “but who cares?” She began nibbling at his neck, causing Shinji to gasp in surprise.
“Asuka, we can't be doing this,” he managed to gasp out finally. Asuka pulled away, glaring at him.
“Why not?” She grumbled, slurring the words badly. Shinji was hoping Misato would arrive soon.
“I-I would be taking advantage of you and I couldn't do that,” he told her truthfully, because that was the way he felt. Asuka didn't seem to care at the moment.
“What's it matter? I want you,” she ground herself against his throbbing member, “and I can just tell you want me.” Shinji panted, sweat beading on his brow.
“Asuka we…” He was cut off as Asuka kissed him again, a little more gently this time.
“Shut up and fuck me!” She growled, half demanding, half pleading. She released Shinji's arms and stripped off her oversized t-shirt…which turned out to be the only thing she was wearing. She then began fumbling with the buttons of his shirt, but Shinji grabbed her hands, stopping her.
“A-Asuka w-we s-shouldn't,” he stammered, not sounding very convincing. She kissed him again, cutting his objection short again, swirling her tongue around his, and moaning loudly when he gripped her firm ass. She rubbed her body against his desperately, wanting to feel his hands on her body, wanting to feel needed. Then, as things were about to get serious, the German girl promptly passed out. Shinji was both relieved and disappointed at the same time. He sighed, disentangling himself from her and dressing her, blushing profusely all the while. He took her to her room, closing the door behind him as he left. He sat back down on the couch, glad Misato hadn't walked in on them.
“Dear Kami, I'm such a hentai!”

God, talk about frustrating, na? Sorry but the real naughty stuff will have to wait till some other time. This chapter was only a little longer than the last. Again, review, send me flames whatever! Just be gentle please. Till the next chapter, be good!
