Story Summery: The Shito, the dark angels and servants of Lucifer, created by the fallen Anjiru Belial in order to entrap his siblings who he could not bring himself to kill. However this act was his undoing as his inability to kill Lillith, the first Anjiru known as The Mother because she was given half the power of creation by The Maker, used this to trap him and the Shito into the elemental void known as Limbo.

However when the seal on Limbo weakens and the Shito once again walk the realms of Gaia. With the power of creation weakened by Lucifer's attack on the Fugue Plane there is only one power strong enough to defeat them. The domains of Air, Water, Earth, Fire, Light and Shadow, these powers manifesting themselves in six people, the Elemental Shapers.

Author's Notes: This is inspired by reading several D&D fanfictions at the same time as reading 'Chosen' By Rakna and 'Blood Of The Ancients' by NegativeZero. As such there are quite a few influences from these stories that have ended up coming into the characters abilities and their personalities. Apart from that the plot is a mix of many of my D&D stories (never posted and never will be) and my wishes of how NGE should have went.

Update Note: I've quickly updated this so to fix a fatal flaw (a spelling error which was pointed out by Katfum - thanks.) I'm sorry if this error has offended anyone and must say that it was purely by accident.

Disclaimer: I do not own Evangelion, the copyright is held by GAINAX and Project Eva. I am making nothing from this story and only write as a way to vent my over active imagination. As I said in the Notes there are heady influences of character abilities and personalities from two pieces of fanfiction. Elemental powers, Rei appearance and weapons, and Shinji's link to the air domain come from 'Chosen' written by Rakna. The name 'The Cowled One' and the idea of the shapers wearing human sided armours comes from 'Blood of the Ancients' which is by NegativeZero. I must point out that the plot is a hell of a lot different than both of these mentioned stories.

Chapter 1

He didn't really hate quite villages like Aldri, the village he was now in, however he always felt awkward and nervous being in one. Word always seemed to get around these small settlements like wildfire. Even the smallest news seemed to be a welcomed distraction from the seemly uneventful norm. So when two figures entered the village, one dressed in a purple hooded shroud and was escorted by a Ninja also concealed by a hooded garb entered the town chaos ensued.

Of course for Shinji there was also the fact that for most of his life he had been considered to be a social outcast, someone who didn't have or (like in his case) lost the self-confidence needed to properly interact with others hence distancing he or she from the outer world. That in itself lead to being labelled as 'not fitting in', which of course sadly led to larger lack of self-confidence and the cycle went on and on. He smiled thanking his lucky stars that he had managed to get out of that destructive spiral before it had become serious, rescued from the hellhole he had spent most of his life by his now best friend and his late master. Of course he wasn't the best talker in the world and hell he usually couldn't get out a comprehendible sentence when talking to the opposite sex but at least he could now go up to a villager and ask for directions if lost or actually speak to an innkeeper to get a room.

Just as he was about to do now.

"Welcome to the Lair And Bell! What can I be doing for ya lads!"

He could only try and imagine what the innkeeper thought as he removed his hood. There was no doubt in Shinji's mind that the first feature that the cheerful (if a bit chubby) human noticed was his ears, being pointed like the rest of the elven race. That was probably closely followed by his build, he wasn't as lithe as others of his race (which was explained by others of his race as having 'bad blood') but compared to the average human he was still thin. His build did have it's advantages he was still fast like others of his race but he also didn't seem as fragile as most elven warriors. In spite of the shunning of this fact by many of his own race, many of the humans, dwarfs and gnomes he met on his travels preferred it. After all to them it seemed like the healthy in-between.

His build must have been a surprise to the man, after all most of the seven elven tribes were notorious for being inbred. Mainly in order to try and stop the bloodline from thinning and sometimes because of their cynical view on other races. Of course that didn't mean that Shinji was a half breed it was a fact that his blood line was that of the Valley Elves and he was the last of the Ikari Clan. With his mother missing and presumed dead, her brother killed by the man who had made his life a living hell and his father a man who as far as he could tell never existed. However he seemed to have some sort of generic taint something his unnatural hair and eye colour was evidence to.

"Two rooms please." The young Ronin responded after a second of thought he decided to add. "If possible close to each other."

He watched as the keeper looked over at the key rack seeming to study the pieces of metal for a second before taking two of the metal objects into his hands. "Here ya go lad. Rooms 3 and 8 are across from each other, just take the corridor to yer left an it's the middle rooms on either side."

Shinji nodded in reply as he turned his head to his companion before tossing over one of the keys towards him. "I'm going to have a look around town Kaworu."

"Hum" Came the uncharacteristic response from the ever playful Ninja. He could only smile as he watched his best friend and only travelling companion lower his black hood. Shinji himself had to say that after all these years, the first thing he noted about his friend was how the black hooded garb and clothing he preferred to wear made him look deathly pale. He took a quick glance at the innkeeper noting the man's reaction to his friend. "I think I'll just have some rest." He replied as he moved toward the back of the Inn.

Shinji quickly moved to follow. Even though his social knowledge and skills in reading body language were close to zero, he had been around Kaworu long enough to know that this unusual change in persona didn't make sense. Kaworu, Ninja of the Nagisa Clan was one of those people who strived to spend life to the fullest, having a childlike quality that his experiences had unfortunately lost for the elven Ronin, it was unusual for his Ninja friend to be this serious even in battle. "Kaworu what's wrong?"

His friend turned around to face him a small smile appearing on his lips. "Am I that easy to read little one." The Ninja of course smiled as he watched Shinji cringe in all truth the Ronin hated being called 'little one' after all he was 67 years old of course it did translate to being just over 17 years old if he did age like a human and Kaworu was roughly 7 years older than him. However the comment still grated at his patience even after all these years of travelling with the Ninja.

"Don't call me that." He turned the key in the lock on the door to his guestroom opening the door before signalling his friend forward, before following him into the chamber. "You're usually never this quite, for the sake of Gaia you didn't even say a word to the innkeeper."

He paused as he removed the hooded shroud he wore, revealing underneath a purple trench coat with green trimmings. It was worn mostly closed the fitting of the collar and buttons leaving just enough of an opening to see the black chainmail he wore a tunic of the same colour. He also wore black slacks, which at most an inch was just visible in the small gap between the edge of his coat and his black ankle boots, the look was finished by a set of purple bracers with the same coloured gloves and two belts, one around his waist about one and a half inches wide, mostly black with a green trimming, the other was about 3/4 to an inch wide, following the same pattern as the other and was worn diagonally over his right shoulder to his left waist. Both belts carried items, a 24 inch Katana called the Redeemer its matching Wakizashi Repentant , a small tool pouch and a small flask. He swung his traveller pack onto the small bed which filled the room before turning back to the Ninja who was now looking out the window.

"Then I guess you haven't felt it yet." His eyes softly shimmered a purple light the moment that sentence was even uttered Shinji instantly felt his innate magic flood his senses, coming alive as the delicate weaves of magic came into his vision. The wind suddenly picked up as the sir bent to his will, seeking out the magical disturbance that his best male friend had already sensed, he could feel the magical energies radiating from somewhere, a source which was close. There was something here something extremely powerful and something else something dark, brooding and in all ways menacing. With that the wind quickly returning to it's natural state before he had called upon it as the magic began to dissipate as it always did when his magical senses returned to their normal level. However it was enough to know one thing. Something powerful was here, hidden in this town and something which was ultimately evil was lingering close to it.

And that wasn't good.

"Something's here." The Ronin stated as he walked over to the window.

"A Shito." Kaworu replied venom seemingly oozing off his tongue.

"Shito! As in the dark angels?" Shinji asked back not able to keep the small edge of fear from entering his voice, he had read the ancient scriptures and heard the legends about the Shito. However what did his friend know about these mythical monsters and how was he involved with them.

"That's right." Kaworu replied. "In legend when Belail gave his allegiance to Lucifer and became to first of the Blackguard he used his newly gained powers to keep his fifteen other brothers and sisters at bay. Unable to kill his own brethren he used his powers to create terrible, evil forms based on the Anjiru most negative thoughts an then trapped them within these constructs before the mother, Lillith, gave her life force to seal these creatures and their master away from the world where they could not do harm. How exactly it was done is something that we may never really know but there is one thing that is a fact."

He stopped for a second to look at his best friend before turning once again to that window. "The Shito are truly powerful and only those who are blessed by Lillith have a hope in hell in taking a Shito on."

Shinji nodded he may have been left in a hellhole with a man who seemed insistent with making his life a living hell however he had been well educated, before Janiku the lord of the village of Hilinka and infamous bastard, had killed his only remaining close relative His uncle, Rindeku the last elven guard to come from of the Ikari Clan, had taken him to stay and learn with the High Elves where he had first met Kaworu an her. "'Being blessed' a term used for those are chosen as her champions."

"That is right." Kaworu then paused taking interest to the events outside for a second before saying. "Quickly, look."

Shinji did as he was told looking over the view of the village's square. There was once again a commotion, however instead of it being out of curiosity, like it was when he and Kaworu had entered the village, this was created out of fear. He felt his hand reach up for the Katana in the sheath on his back as he felt a tinge of fear surge through his soul.

The Drow.

There were two Drow warriors, both male which wasn't too surprising, after all the women of the Drow community were usually more magically based, usually priestesses, sorceresses and the like. They wore the standard Drow equipment, black clothing, armour, gauntlets and carrying weapons made of the black metal Damascus, probably poisoned. With them were four Dark Elves, not as darked skinned as their counterparts, the grey skinned elves were mostly used as foot soldiers for the Drow which explained their usually worse off equipment.

However it was the figure in the middle which gave off the menacing aura of darkness which instantly put one phase into Shinji's mind.

"Shito." He muttered as he watched the cloaked figure realising instantly that not a piece of skin could be seen behind the darkness emanating from the creatures shroud.

Kaworu only nodded as he headed towards the door." His name is Sachiel, his name stolen from the Angel he keeps trapped within him. He is the weakest of the Shito however he can still kill millions without even breaking a sweat."

"How do you know all this Kaworu?" He asked as he turned and followed his friend as he ran towards the entrance to the inn. He had a feeling that he was being slowly drawn into something that was way over his head. Suddenly his childish side, the side that always wanted to go on an adventure, the side that was carefree, the side he thought had been lost long ago reawaken with a single thought. 'What the hell.' He couldn't help the smirk on his face as he started to run after Kaworu.

---

Major Misato Katsuragi always hated being placed in charge of one of the Inquisition's 'Special Assignments' especially any which, like her current one, included escorting the Grand Inquisitor. Gendo Rokubungi only ever left the Inquisition's main fortress monastery in Tokyo if it was something of great importance or if this was personal business. She had the feeling that it was the second.

Especially when she looked into his face, the Grand Inquisitor looked furious.

"Do you have any Idea what this is about Rit-Chan?" The purple haired Inquisitor asked as turned towards the leader of the Inquisition's Clerical division and her best friend.

"I think this is something to do with 'her'." The head apothecary Ritsuko Akagi replied the last word seeping in venom. "It was in this village where her brother was murdered. I think the Grand Inquisitor finally has enough evidence he needs to arrest and hang the culprit."

Misato had never really why Ritsuko had a loathing towards the Loremistress, Yui of the Ikari Clan. She had only met the 186 year old Valley Elf once and she had seemed to be a wonderful person. She knew that she probably didn't know all the facts, she knew the rumours about the Loremistress and the Grand Inquisitor but many things were still unknown to nearly everyone involved. Including the reason that Gendo and Ritsuko's arranged marriage never took place.

And it was that single event that must hold the key to why Ritsuko hated Yui Ikari.

"So this is just a simple arrest then?"

"I highly doubt it, even though he doesn't control a lot of land he still has support from the council. We're not sure why but that's another thing we have to 'extract' from him."

The only reply the major could do was roll her eyes before adding. "I think Grand Inquisitor Rokubungi is having a influence on you." She joked as she carried on, her hand resting on the hilt of her Katana. There was something not right about this, she already knew that the council of seven known as SEELE what it stood for she didn't know, however they were not to be trusted, she had seen how the Inquisition had changed in the eight years since the kingdom had passed control over to SEELE, it was noticeable that instead of being the champions of the truth they had become the council's loyal guard dog.

And she hated the fact that she was part of this organisation.

However SEELE didn't have everything their way, after all secretly the Grand Inquisitor fought control away from the council, with only his most trusted men, to back him. She was proud to be one of them, in fact she was probably the fourth highest ranking officer after, Doctor Ritsuko Akagi being the Inquisition's head apothecary and her best friend since the academy days, Professor Kouzou Fuyutsuki; second in command of the Inquisition and the senior instructor and of course the Grand Inquisitor himself.

Of course there were others, Lieutenant Maya Ibuki who was Ritsuko's protégé, 2nd-Lieutenant Makoto Hyuuga one of the best and honest Inquisitors she had ever met and lastly 2nd-Lieutenant Shigeru Aoba a man who always seemed to pretend to pluck an imaginary lute, knowing all to well that he could never really carry one as long as he was in the Inquisition, that wasn't to say that he wasn't dedicated, hell she would be dead if it wasn't for him. "We're here." She heard Makoto say as they entered the courtyard of the only manor in Hilinka. Now they would find out the facts about why Grand Inquisitor himself had wanted to come to this town in the first place.

She watched her superior dismount from his stallion an stride towards the manor his hand resting on the Bastard Sword carried on his right hand side, he was suddenly all business, unreadable, no emotions or thoughts revealing themselves through his body language. She had always wondered how he could do this.

He strode through the entrance of the manor, the advanced unit lead by his second in command saluting as he entered the building, the grey haired instructor who had been waiting patiently for his commanding officer to arrive gave a small nod before falling into step beside Gendo. "We have him, he's being prepared in his study."

"Good work." Was all Gendo replied his voice steady even if there was a dangerous edge to it.

"Your not going to do anything stupid are you?" If it had been anyone else then they wouldn't have been alive any longer, however this was Kouzou one of his best friends, if the word fitted Gendo Rokubungi, and the one who had introduced him to Yui.

"Not if this leads me to my son."

"So this is what this is all about." Gendo only nodded in reply slowly relaxing the closer he came to the manor's main study. "You think he knows where Shinji is?"

"And in turn I may find out if Yui is alive."

The human instructor wasn't surprised behind the Inquisitor's thinking, after all he had known the Grand Inquisitor for long enough now to know he would reply this way. To show any affection towards a person would no doubt lead to SEELE using that person against him, willing or not. It was one of the cons of their mission but he knew that Gendo's affection for the son he had never met would show in other ways.

And for Janiku hell would seem more forgiving than the vengeance of the Grand Inquisitor.
