"Of course I care for you Asuka, whatever made you think I didn't" Kaji replied
for what seemed like the twentieth time since he had got to Misato's apartment.
He and Asuka were there alone, sitting next to each other on the couch. Asuka
was as close to him as she could possibly get, he could feel the heat of her
body as she pressed herself up against his side. Her answer was direct and to
the point, like her, "Okay then, prove it," she said. Well, here goes nothing;
Kaji thought as he prepared himself for what he knew was going to follow. He
gently put his arm around her. She started slightly at this but hid it well.
Almost whispering, Kaji said " And how do you want me to do that". Asuka didn't
even bother to reply, she just tilted her head up at him and closed her eyes.
Knowing that it was too late to turn back now, Kaji used his free hand to caress
her cheek and tenderly pressed his lips to hers. She gasped in surprise; He
could tell that she wasn't expecting this at all. But then she sighed and
started to return the kiss. As Asuka started to melt into his embrace, Kaji
thought back on how he got to this point. How come he was walking the thin line
with this girl that he had known since she was a small child recovering from the
suicide of her mother.

Two days ago

"KAJIII!!!" Asuka wasted no time attaching herself to his arm the minute he
stepped though the door of Misato's apartment. "Hi there Asuka" He replied,
looking for something to distract her. He flashed a pleading look at Misato as
she stepped out of her room but she just shrugged and continued to get ready for
their date. He would just have to bear this as always until he and Misato could
leave. Asuka's enthusiastic advances really made him uncomfortable: Almost to
the point that he did his best to avoid her. He had tried telling her that he
only thought of her as a friend but this seemed to make her even more
determined. When she was younger, Asuka was the closest thing that he had ever
had to a daughter and the fact that she now wanted more did not sit well. On top
of this, she was undeniable very attractive and as much as he tried not to
notice this, he could not help it. He had hoped that she would have had her
attention diverted by boys her own age (Shinji maybe) but she still pursued him
with a disconcerting single mindedness.

"Okay, I'm ready." Misato's statement brought him out of his thoughts. At least
now he could get out of here. He looked down at Asuka and tried to break it to
her gently. "Sorry, I have to go". Her face fell, and she whined back, "Awww,
can't you just stay for a little while and have a drink of tea with me or
something". He swallowed as she pressed her self up against his arm. He needed
to end this now. Kaji gently but firmly removed himself from her grip and said,
"Sorry, but Misato and I have reservations". As he stepped away from her, she
almost seemed to fold up onto herself and he could see the pain of his rejection
in her eyes. "Maybe later," he said as He and Misato walked out the door. As
they were walking away he could hear Shinji ask her if she was okay. "NO I'M NOT
YOU IDIOT" she yelled and the last thing that he could hear was a slap. Misato
sighed and said " I hope she doesn't hurt him to bad this time. You wouldn't
believe how much Shinji puts up with from her". Kaji just shook his head and
said "tell me about it." as far as he was concerned, the evening was already
ruined.

At the restrant, it did not take long for Misato to notice that something was on
Kaji's mind. He was just sitting there picking at his food silently. "What's
wrong?" she asked. "What dose Asuka see in me?" he unexpectedly asked. Misato,
trying to lighten the mood said " I have no Idea what ANYBODY would see in you"
but he just put his chopsticks on the table and frowned. "I don't lead her on or
anything, but she just won't let it be" he slammed his fist to the table in
frustration. Misato gently placed her hand on that fist and said "This is really
getting to you isn't it". "Yes" he replied. "I have known Asuka since she was a
little girl and I care for her like a father. I just want this to stop." He
laid his head back on the back of the booth they were in and continued " I am
out of Ideas, I have tried telling her how I feel but she just WON"T take no for
an answer, It's to the point that I can't spend any time with her, it is just
too unconformable". He then looked at her and asked, almost PLEADED, "do you
have any suggestions?" Misato bowed her head in thought for a minute but then
suddenly looked up with a mischievous glint in her eye. She said. "Why don't you
just give her what she wants". Kaji almost choked on his drink and glared at
her. "That's not funny," he barked. But Misato's look became more serious and
she said, "I wasn't joking". Kaji could only gape at her. "Let me get this
strait Misato, you want me to SLEEP with a fourteen year old". He said in
astonishment. Misato clarified, "I don't think that it will come to that. If you
stop fighting her and give in, I'm betting that she won't be able to go though
with it". Kaji was skeptical "I don't know, she seems pretty willing to me".
Misato continued "You know how she is, once she sets her sights on something she
wont give up. I think that has blinded her to what she is asking for. Remember
for all of her act she is still a kid, I don't think that she wants that yet."
"So you want me to take her far enough that she realizes that she really doesn't
want to go any further." "That seems pretty cruel to me Misato". She sighed.
"Asuka is the type that will only learn a lesson the hard way, and you are
right, this needs to end" Kaji couldn't resist saying "so you don't like the
competition do you". Misato huffed at that but was inwardly thankful that Kaji
seemed to be coming out of his funk. "I just don't want her missing out on what
she has by wishing for something that she can never get." Kaji said " I see
your point, but there is just so many things that can go wrong" "what if she
DOSEN'T stop? And even if she dose, she may never forgive me. I love her like a
daughter, and I don't think that I could stand her hating me forever". Misato
replied, "What do you think is going to happen if what is happening now keeps
up." "Good point." Kaji conceded "but this still bothers me, this is a child we
are talking about here." "She faces death as a pilot, that is an adult
responsibility. I think that she can handle this" Misato replied. But from the
look on his face, something was still bothering Kaji. " I still don't know about
this." Half joking Misato said, "What's the matter, you afraid that one you
start making out with a pretty girl, you won't want to stop." From the way that
he looked down at the table she could tell that she had hit a nerve. He quietly
said, "Actually… yes, It bothers me that I have thought of her…that way… even
have had a few dreams as much that disgusts me. But the temptation is there."
This was really upsetting him, Misato saw. But she also had faith in her plan,
and him. "I know how much you care about her, you would never do anything too
hurt her. This will work, I am sure of It." though Kaji still had misgivings, if
this had a chance of working, and He thought that it did, He would give it a
try. "Okay, if it will end this, I'll do it." Misato couldn't resist one jab.
"Ooooh, nice choice of words there" Kaji smiled "Well you did say that this
would be a HARD lesson for her didn't you" Wincing at the bad pun Misato said,
"Okay, I'll make sure that you have some time alone with her in my apartment.
The rest is up to you. Just be careful" The fact that he has a possible solution
to his problem buoyed up Kaji's spirits a little and he tried to enjoy the rest
of the evening.


Well that's it for the first chapter, I have one or two more to go and hopfully
they will come out pretty quick. this is my first eva fic and only my second
real fanficion so please keep that in mind. I have noticed that eva fans are
very critical so I have tried to do my best. I hope that this is a fairly
original idea but If it is not. I did not do it intentionally. Thanks.
