Cain sighed. There was nothing more soothing than playing organ. He was glad that the priest allowed him to. Then again, after they'd found out he could play, they'd bothered him until he played often. They even wanted to have him play at night liturgy. He had refused politely. He'd explained that he couldn't do God's music justice. But really, he just didn't want to spend a night here. He already spent his days there.
He could only think of one thing more soothing than his fingers dancing over the keys. And that was his fingers dancing over a certain detective. Though that slim body moving under his weight had not been all that soothing. It had been hot and wonton. It had turned him on and threatened his resolve. And he knew that if Shido had asked him too, he would have made love to the boy right there on that terribly uncomfortable bed.
He looked up from his playing, glancing over the side of the organ loft and over the church. It was a nice cathedral. He never went to the one back home. Then again, back home, they knew what he was. And they didn't want him anywhere near what was holy. They didn't seem to understand. Vampirism was a gift. God had given it to him so that he could watch the passing of history. Watch history, and meet this boy he would have never been able to meet otherwise.
The doors to the chapel flung open and there was the sound of harsh breathing. As if whoever was entering was running away from something. He supposed even here a place like this was considered sanctuary to the frightened. He wondered who it was and why they were running. But he continued playing, as if he hadn't noticed the entrance.
The scent hit his nose before the actual sight of the runner. It smelled like Shido. That soft, delicate, heady fragrance. Laced, strangely with fear. He continued to play. What was Shido doing here acting like that? He thought he'd done a rather good job of removing his memory of where he'd been the night before. He didn't want the boy stumbling in on something like he had again. He watched the silver haired youth glance around, behind him, and then he scrambled over to the pews.
He watched with sharp golden eyes as the boy ended on his hands and knees on the floor, between wooden bench seats. It was a lovely position. And he could just imagine himself crouching behind him, tattooing a creamy soft back with his lips. Nibbling at the juction of his neck. Tasting his sweet sweet lifeblood.
Another scent hit and the voice made him angry. It was a man chasing Shido. A man he knew. The man he'd seen flirting Shido. That scent strangely familiar. The one he'd smelled right after Shido had run from the date. He hissed quietly. He'd warned that man. Warned him to stay away from Shido. That Shido was his. But it seemed the man hadn't listened.
He could hear the man apologizing for something he'd done. And Cain's hands slammed down violently against the keys of the organ. He hadn't dared. He'd tried to force Shido, it seemed. And now he was apologizing for it. And Shido. Bless his gentle heart, had forgiven him. Forgiven him and allowed himself to be touched again by that man.
Cain was going to kill him. Kill him quickly and his blood would stain the streets of London. He'd be a smear on the cobblestone pavement for ever daring to even look at the boy. His anger seemed to crackle around him visibly as the officer took his Shido's hand and led him away. Led him away to buy him sweets. That made Cain angrier. Only he was allowed to spoil Shido like that.
He heard the door to the chapel close and sat for a while, taking in Shido's lingering scent. He cursed silently. It was still sunny outside. He didn't know if he should dare try it. He was a master vampire. He could go out if he really wanted too. But it would hurt him greatly too. He wondered if he could endure the pain of sunlight. For Shido, he would. He would endure.
The blond stood from his seat and vaulted the low wall, landing on the floor below with great ease. He straightened his clothing a little and put on pristine white gloves before stealing him and stepping into the bright sunlight. It did hurt. But not as much as he thought it would. He found himself grateful for London's perpetual cloud cover. Though the longer he stayed outside, the more likely it would be that he did burn. And the earlier he'd have to feed.
He followed the form of the boy and the man holding his hand. Feeling the jealously that he wasn't the one doing so. Knowing how much he did want to stand there and show everyone how much he cared for the boy in the bright light of the sun. And suddenly saddened that he was planning on taking that sunlight away from Shido. But Shido didn't need the sunlight. He looked far lovelier highlighted by the moon.
The officer had pulled the boy into a candy shop. He watched from a little ways away. Watching the pouting youth. Such a lovely pout. So very hard to resist. And then a brilliant smile when the bag was handed to him. Then the constable was dragging him away again. It seemed the man was taking Shido back home. That was fine. The less time his rival had with Shido, the better off. He refused to lose the boy to this man.
He watched the constable stop at Shido's door, frowning slightly, as if he wanted to do something. He knew what that something was. Shido was just kissable cute. But Cain thought that the man better not dare do anything like that. He was totally surprised when it was the boy that kissed the officer. A simple kiss on the cheek and that soft voice thanking him for the candy.
Cain growled low in his throat when the older man grabbed Shido's hand and wheeled him around to lay a heavy kiss to the boy's lips. He watched Shido struggling against it. That man was dead. He'd just signed his own warrant. Then the man was pulling away, whispering something that sounded like, “Some other time, when you're more eager” Then the man was gone, and Cain watched Shido disappear quickly into the house.
He was torn between going into the house or go after the man. Not much of a choice. He was going to make sure Shido was okay before he hunted that man down and killed him like the mongrel he was. And maybe it was time to make the boy his. Just so everyone knew who Shido belonged too. But for that he needed Shido to sleep.
Inside the house, the silver haired youth fell onto the bed, suddenly exhausted. He swore he could hear a soft foreign voice. Deep and sensual. Telling him to sleep. To let his eyes close and slip into slumber. And he found himself compelled to obey these words that invaded his head so intimately. He would sleep.
