Shido barely heard the glass ground under his heal. But that little sound made all his senses go on high alert. There shouldn't be broken glass in the streets. And the smell. The smell was unmistakable. Somewhere ahead, something, someone was bleeding. It sent, the sounds were stronger than they'd ever been before, and that worried him. What that meant was that whatever was there was fresh. And for some reason the detective felt drawn to it.

His footsteps echoed over cobblestones and crunched past more class, bringing him deeper into the shadows. Towards the front door of one of the houses looming in the fog. The curtain was open and he found himself peering in at the scene before him. Blue green eyes wide. Cain had been right. It was a demon. A terrible horrible demon. And eh was eating someone. Tearing her apart piece by piece. If that even was a human being. He couldn't tell between the blood and the dark figure hovering above.

Shido stared hard at the figure. That thing looked so familiar. But he couldn't see past the darkness surrounding it. It looked like the man from the bar. Almost. He squinted and tried to think of where else he'd seen that dark figure. It was the thing that had interrupted Cain and his moonlight dance. But it was more than that, that dark creature in there seemed too familiar to him. He just couldn't put his finger on it, but Shido knew he knew who was in there.

As the silver haired youth stood transfixed, the dark head of the Night breed snapped up. Catching his scent. Shido stood frozen. He couldn't move. Eyes bore into eyes, and in Shido's head, he could hear Cain's words from the dream. The demon Cain had called Nightbreeds possessed people. Blue green eyes went wide, and he took a step back. The breed had stood and was staring back with a look in it's own eyes. And that's when Shido knew. Knew beyond a doubt exactly what that NightBreed was on the inside.

Little sounds of terror made their way out of his throat as he continued to back away, preying that the breed hadn't seen him. But it was a false prayer. It had seen. He'd caught the breed. He'd caught it in the act. And he couldn't think of anything else to do but to follow his instincts and turn and run away. Run away for that thing that was now launching itself out the broken window, and towards him.

Shido scrambled back, but the dark figure was too fast. Inhumanly fast. And Shido only got a few feet before the thing had him. Had him against the wall, trembling and fighting not to scream. Clawing at the dark shadow, trying to get away. Btu it was to no avail. The shadow was trying to envelope him. Hold him in its dark embrace.

“No… Let go of me. I didn't see anything. I swear. I'll stop hunting for you. Just please, please…” Shido felt tears coming. Here he was, wanting to be strong. Wanting to prove himself, but when push came to shove and he had come fact to face with this demon he was weak. Weak and starting to cry. Large terror induced tears rollgni down pale cheeks. Eyes closed against his inevitable death.

And in the darkness of his closed eyes, Shido could feel a hand. Strong, human hand ghosting over wet cheeks. And arms. A familiar arm circled around his waist. A hard, possessive voice whispered into his ear. “Shido. My Shido. Don't cry. I hate it when you cry. I won't hurt you. I'll never ever hurt you. I did this for you, after all. Now, open your eyes Shido. Open your eyes and look at me.”

Shido cracked an eye, tears still falling. And flinched away. He had known. Should have known from the beginning. There were so many clues. So many little things that should have told him the truth long before he had to stumble upon it. Opened one eye and whimpered the name of the one the NightBreed had possessed. The one who had killed all those women to survive. “Fredrick…”
