Disclaimer: No, I don't own Cain and Shido or any of the other characters from Nightwalker, no matter how much the voice in my head sounds like Guni…

Further Disclaimer: I myself (though half German by lineage) do not understand nor speak a lick of German. All of the translations within this fic were provided by an online dictionary. If they are wrong or I (more than likely) have screwed them up, I am VERY SORRY! Please be gentle, but feel free to correct me if you know otherwise. Please do not take my translations as fact!!!

Warning: As in just about all the fan fiction I write, this fic contains YAOI, or Male/Male relationships that are, as always, incredibly graphic. To me, it's art, and therefore restricting it would be not only stupid, but futile as my muse would beat me into submission and scream for me to write it anyway…

Chapter 13: Bell Chimes- Part 4

Ken'ichi looked to Everard in shock, then disbelief. "What? How?"

"I don't know kleines," Everard shook his head, "but that does not change the fact that I sense it. Deep within you in is the same power as Shido. That is why I fear for you."

Ken'ichi tore from Everard's grasp. "So that's it. That's why Cain keeps me? Am I just a--"

"No!" Everard shouted. "That is not what I meant!"

Ken took a step back. In the short time that the younger vampire had known him, he'd never once heard Everard speak to either him or Shido like that.

"What I mean to say is, what I told you before. About you being valuable. I did not yet know you. But if Cain trusts you with Shido, his prize, his life, than he is not using you. He may think that he is using you, but even he already knows that you have found a way into his heart."

Ken'ichi turned away and started towards the door.

"Where are you going kleines?" Everard asked as he stood and followed him. "Where are you going?" he asked again, a little more intensely.

"I have to know," Ken'ichi said quietly.

"He is using you."

"I know," a soft voice replied. Vibrant vampire eyes stared off into the shadows of the long hallway.

The shadows grew and swirled about, and a tall, lean form bled from them, walking towards the sparkling-eyed creature.

"He doesn't know that he is really the one being used," it continued. The vampire leaned into a shadowed caress and sighed. Not all the bodily pleasure in the world could compare to that simple touch, a luscious mixing of biting cold and searing heat that shook his core. "Mmm," shining eyes closed to half-mast. "Please…it's been ages."

The shadow smiled, or seemed to smile. "You know I can't give you that, not like this. I can only touch the surface, of your feelings," a long, drawn breath that took in the vampire's scent, "of your body."

The vampire reached up and took purchase of the shadowy "hand," entwining their fingers. "Please, anything you can give me…"

"Do you beg him like this?" the shadow laughed, mockingly. His hand menacingly clutched tightly to the bulge in the vampire's pants.

"Ugh…you know that it means nothing," the vampire choked as the grip turned from pleasurable to painful.

"Do I? How do I know you aren't fooling me as well, my sweet little whore?"

"Was it not you that made me the whore? You seem to make that a habit…your lover in Japan, and you question my fidelity?" the vampire gasped as the grip went up another notch. It relaxed, and he felt cold lips upon his throat.

"Hm, you do have a potent point, my little whorebut your tone is annoying," the shadow smiled. It began to knead the vampire's hardness lovingly, causing the glittering-eyed creature to moan as the passion built…

Then, as quickly as it came, the Shadow disappeared, leaving the vampire to fall to his knees. Panting and sweating, the vampire glared murderously toward the shifting shadows of the secluded hall.

"Such a look, my little whore. It does not flatter such a lovely face," the shadow hissed as it shrank from existence…

Shido wailed and clutched as his head as he jarred to full wakefulness, the peaceful lull that his lover had drawn him into shattering into millions of tiny shards of pain. He shook uncontrollably and, vaguely, felt his lover's arms tighten on his torso. A chill passed through his body the same instant that what seemed like a bolt of lightning ran through his mind.

"Shido? Shido!" Cain shouted as he shook his mate. The lavender haired vampire simple continued to scream until all Cain could do was hold his tightly and hope whatever it was passed. He heard a loud rumbled, followed by the wrenching sound of splintering wood as the doors to the bedroom swung open and slammed against stone walls. He turned to see who could have possibly done such a thing, and who would have dared.

Everard stood in the doorway, fuming, a very confused and scared Ken'ichi in his wake. The boy immediately rushed to his dark brother as Everard spoke. "What the hell is going on here?" He rushed forward, fully intent on confronting Cain.

Shido had stopped screaming as was trembling softly in Cain's arms by the time Ken'ichi reached him slowly pulling his brother from Cain's arms. Their dark father looked as if he were a mere hairbreadth from tearing into Everard.

Cain reluctantly relinquished his hold of Shido with a brief kiss to his forehead. He stood, thankful that he'd at least a pair of pants on, and faced down the dark haired vampire before him.

Everard was seething, his body trembling with rage. His hand came up, then swiftly came across Cain's face, splitting his lip. "I swear to God, Cain, if that scream was because of you, I'll gut you where you stand! If you can't protect your offspring, especially from yourself, then you don't deserve either of them!"

Cain took the slap in stride, only reaching up a hand to wipe the blood away from his split lip. He looked up Everard. "Are you finished?" he growled.

Everard was silent.

"Good," the movement was so sudden, there wasn't a snowball's chance in hell that Everard was going to expect it, much less dodge it. Cain's fist came out and down, slamming into the side of the elder vampire's face and knocking him to the ground. The blond vampire took the opportunity to pounce on the elder vampire, grabbing him by the collar with one hand and slugging him again with the other. "How dare you even insinuate that I can't protect my mates!" Cain snarled.

"Mates," Ken'ichi whispered. Not mate…mates. He looked down into the world-weary green eyes of his dark brother. He was surprised when the elder vampire shuddered and leaned into him, as if trying to burrow deeper into the comforting circle of his arms.

"1Nein! Der halt, Cain!" the lavender-locked vampire moaned loudly.

Cain managed to rein his anger long enough to get off Everard and look to Shido. His mate's condition was enough to extinguish the flame of vengeance that burned in his eyes. He strode back to the bed and lifted Shido to stand, titling his chin up to look at him. "What was that, Shido?" Cain said, as his other dark child backed Shido, helping him to stand.

"2Mein Gott," Shido winced, "It's a-- a warning…" his eyes widened as he looked into Cain's. "From…Benedict?" Shido's eyes glazed over a moment, almost darkening, then refocusing. "Cain? Ken'ichi?"

Both vampires enfolded Shido, and he relished the warmth they lent his chilled body, but Cain leaned up, sealing Ken'ichi's lips in a long kiss, before leaving Shido in his temporary care. Cain turned to Everard, who was massaging an almost bruised cheek from Cain's punches.

"What will it take to make you realize," Cain snarled, "that I'm never letting them go. To myself, or to anything else that may threaten their lives…"

No! Stop it, Cain!

2. My God…
