One Piece Fan Fiction ❯ An Olde Sea Tale ❯ A New World ( Chapter 1 )

[ T - Teen: Not suitable for readers under 13 ]

Hey ya'll! If you've read the Rurouni Kenshin fic Blast into the Past, then you know my work! But, if you've never done that… tough love. Anywho, this is my first One Piece fic and I'm pretty happy that I'm doing this. I thought about it for the first time in English, while she was blarging about the Crucible, and I was all like, `why don't I do a OP fic?' and now here I am. Sorry. I'm a rambler. Well, here it is. Enjoy!

Disclaimer: Okay, I'm sorry to say, I don't own OP. I do own Mercy and the plot. That is all.

An Olde Sea Tale

Chapter 1 - A New World

There you were: walking to school, minding your own business, enjoying the fresh morning air, when WHAM! your friend Kala runs into you from behind. "What the FREAK?!" you exclaim as she picks herself up and continues to run.

"Sorry, Mercy, I didn't see you! I'll talk to ya later!" She yells over her shoulder. (yes, your name is Mercy. Shuttup.)

You shake your head and pick yourself up from where she knocked you over. Jeez, wonder what's got HER all riled up this mornin'? Oh well. You shrug, brush yourself off, and continue on your merry way. Little did you know that an antique shop around the corner was aiming to change your destiny.

As you nonchalantly walked around the corner so you could cross the street to get to school on time, your eyes glanced over at the little antique shop on your right. Hey, I've never seen that store before, must be new. You checked your watch and knew that you'd be late, but something was drawing you toward the store. You looked back at the school, and then back at the store. The hell with it. You walked up and pushed open the door, hearing the little bells that were hanging from the inside knob jingle. You poked your head inside and slowly walked in, shutting the door behind you. "Hello? Anyone here?" You looked around, fascinated by what you could see through the dimness of the store. Hundreds upon hundreds of books, maps, artifacts, spyglasses, you name it, everything was here! It was amazing! You had never seen so many nautical artifacts in one place before, and that was saying something, since you lived at a sea port. Just seeing all the old treasures made your eyes go misty with the lost memories you kept deep inside.

~Flashback~

"Daddy! Daddy! Higher!" You were seven years old, and full of piratey spunk. Your father tossed you high into the air. "Wheeee!!" You squealed, just before he caught you. Your mother yelled from the window, "All right, guys, it's ready. Come and get it!" She reached through the window and rang the triangle, signaling to all who hadn't heard her that it was dinnertime. You raced you father back to the house, and, of course, you won.

"Mercy, I just can't seem to keep up with you!" He said, with a twinkle in his eyes.

"Come on, daddy, let's eat!" You said, rambunctious and hungry as ever. Your three brothers and one sister raced to the house as well, then stopped short right before they got to the door. They remembered the rule, No Running in the House, very well, since they all learned the hard way. You plopped yourself down in your chair, grabbed your spoon and fork, and patiently waited for the delicious aromas to come near you. Finally, all were seated, and dinner had started.

Afterward, everyone so full that they thought they would burst, and everything cleaned up, of course, it was bedtime. Tomorrow was a big day. Tomorrow was the day out of the week that you and your family got to go sailing to one of the many islands nearby. You sighed and tucked the covers up under your chin. "Goodnight, k-chan!" You sleepily told your stuffed dragon. You turned over and went to sleep.

The next morning, everyone was up and rearin' to go. Blue skies, stiff winds, and the promise of a beautiful island. You all piled onto the ship and set sail. You got to the island, and had a wonderful time.

Many hours later, though, none of you noticed the storm clouds that appeared on the horizon. Pretty soon, you felt a shadow and looked up. "Daddy, daddy, look!" You said, pointing to the sky. His eyes traveled in the direction you were pointing, and narrowed at the sight of the clouds.

"Everyone! We've got to head back!" He shouted. "A squall's coming in; it's best we're not here when it hits." All of you hurriedly gathered up your things and boarded the ship. You cast off and were sailing in no time.

You had almost reached the safety of the harbour, when a huge breaker crashed onto the ship, soaking everyone. "Hang on!" your father shouted from the helm. You grabbed onto the rigging and held with all your might, closing your eyes so no water would get in them. Now the ship was rocking back and forth, over and over, and your knuckles were white with fear and the death-grip you had on the ropes. All of a sudden there was a huge *CRACK* and the ship split straight down the center. "DADDY!!!!!!" You screamed, when you saw the stern slowly dip and plunge into the depths of the sea. "DADDYYYYYY!!!!!!!"

You woke up later in you own home, because some of your neighbors found you and brought you back. You learned that it was a freak storm, and you were the only survivor. You cried for 27 days, then cried no more.

~End Flashback~

You shook yourself out of your reverie, shaking back the tears. Oh, crap! You thought, glancing at your watch. You turned to bolt out of the store when a helm caught your eye. You stopped, and slowly walked over to it. Touching it gently, you read the words `Storm's Mercy' on it, then blacked out.

When you woke up, you realized that, what the freak, you weren't anywhere near school, or the antique shop. You were drifting, on a piece of a ship, it the middle, of the FREAKING OCEAN. "AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!! What the hell? How'd I get here?!" You looked around for something to row with, when you spotted a ship off to your left. "Hey, over here! HEY!!!!" You shouted. You looked for something to wave, and the brightest thing you owned was your bandana that you tied your golden brown hair back with. You untied it and waved it madly back and forth. "HEY!!!! OVER HERE!!!! LOOK THIS WAY!!!!" Was it just you, or was the ship turning? You waived it even more madly. "YEAH!!! YEAH!!! THIS WAY!!!" Finally the ship was definitely headed your way. You tied your bandana back on your head and waited for it to come to you.

When it reached you, you scrambled aboard as fast as you could, cause it was really clipping along. You turned around and looked back at your board, which was a considerable distance away already. "Wow. Fast clipper." You turned around to stare at the most rag-tag group of pirates you had ever seen in your entire life. You shifted your weight nervously, cause you weren't sure what to make of them. One was tall, with black hair and the coolest, most broken in straw hat that you had ever seen. You glanced past him. There was another tall guy, but he had green hair and no hat. But he did have three swords strapped to his waist, and it looked like the most popular expression for him was a scowl. You glanced past him to the girl with the neon-sign orange hair. She had a bo and looked to be fascinated with the map she had in her hand. Then you glanced over at the last person on the ship. He had the longest nose, ever. It was like a popsicle stick at made itself at home where his nose should be. He also carried a slingshot, and it looked like he was pretty good with it, too. You put you had behind your head and said, "Hi. Thanks."

They were all gaping at you, probably wondering what to make of you. You didn't think that they had ever seen someone with your style of dress before. Actually, you were amazed that you hadn't drowned. You were wearing a black tanktop, black jeans (the kind with all the pockets and zippers and straps and crap? The kind you can get at Hot Topic), black goth boots (same thing as pants) and your really cool tie-dye bandana that your father had brought back for you from India. Not to mention that your backpack had survived the watery trip unscathed, which also contained your CD player, extra batteries, a few books, and all your frigg'n homework. You shifted your weight again, not knowing what to say.

The guy with the straw hat finally smiled. "Hi! You must be new! (Really?) I'm Monkey D. Luffy, or Straw-Hat Luffy! Or just Luffy, even! That" he said, pointing to the guy with the green hair, "is Rononoa Zoro, that" pointing to the girl, "is Nami, and that's" pointing to the guy with the nose, "is Usopp. That's all of us, now who're you?"

You cleared your throat. "Okay, I guess that's fair. I am Mercy Kotigama. I have no idea where I am, or how I got to be floating on a piece of a ship in the middle of the ocean. Perhaps ya'll (that's right, ya'll) can enlighten me."

Okay, what'dya think? I personally think it's spiffy. I'll get more in depth later, but for now, I think that should do it. Oh. You might want your statistics, huh? Okay, well, here goes:

Height: 5'9"

Weight: 120 lbs

Eye color: Greenish-hazel

Hair color: Golden brown, with sun blond streaks and the occasional black streak

Hobbies: Reading, kicking butt on the piano, various bar fights (always a fun diversion), sailing and marauding, things like that.

Likes: Books, music (except for hip hop and pop), computers, any kind of challenge or game, the sea, ramen

Dislikes: Mark Twain, spiders, Geometry, the 3 minute wait for the ramen to cook.

Personality: You're really gung-ho, especially if your friends need you. It not a good thing to back you in a corner or trap you, cause hey, and I quote, `a thousand-to-one odds against you is NOT a problem'. But under your tough exterior, you are really a kind and compassionate person. But there's a lot of darkness too. You'll get into that as the story progresses.

There. You have it. Happy? You better be. Well, please R&R, and I will kafish you if you flame me. Yes, kafish. Long story. The button's down there, so PUSH IT. I beseech YOU. Tata!!
